DELOOZE release ‘Lost Army’ 1st July and headline London’s Islington Assembly Hall on 3 July www.deloozeofficial.com/

Monumental Sensual Adventures

The third single (and first from the forthcoming debut album) by the idiosyncratic DeLooze, is as fierce as it is sophisticated. Potent vocal lines pierce through crunching guitar rhythms, menacing drums patterns and alarming electronics before the line “How do you command armies?” hints at the fragility behind the visceral. Casting an enigmatic and powerful figure Stacey DeLooze fronts the collective, fusing classical instrumentation, deep electronics, and rock to create a dark and brooding take on dramatically charged power pop, which in turn has sparked a wave of much deserved hype.

Drawing on inspirations that include Edith Piaf, Kate Bush, Siouxsie Sioux, Bowie, Michael Jackson and Thom Yorke as well as electronic pioneers such as Nicolas Jaar and Trentemoller as key influences, 'Lost Army' remains current in its production with intelligent sounds, whilst also carrying a sense of timelessness. Taking aim with such visions formulates a sound that calls on Zola Jesus or Bat for Lashes, with an injection of vigor. As befits an act that draws inspiration from so many legendary performers, DeLooze’s shows are spectacles that center on showcasing many of the arts under one roof. They seek to give their audience an experience that will appeal to all the senses. The theatrical element of unpredictability is particularly important. Honing this desire has forged a hot ticket on the live circuit of those in the know. Their last event at the 300+ capacity Electrowerks was a comfortable sell out. With their current single coming out on Fierce Panda Records imprint Giant Haystacks they continue to gain momentum towards the debut album. Despite having a deliberately fresh online profile, DeLooze’s last single made the download round ups in The Times and The Guardian and was championed widely on BBC 6 Music. They also have a rapidly growing European fan-base, following appearances this April at Tallinn Music Week in Estonia. (cont./…)

2013 will be a big year for an act with such huge ambition, orchestrated by the diligent Stacey DeLooze. From scratch, with this album, she has crafted a body of work which includes Chris Hayden, Cedric Lemoyne, and Mercury nominated Liran Donin, musicians featured across Florence and the Machine and Alanis Morissette’s albums, and mixed by Mikko Gordon (currently working on Atoms for Peace). Additionally, the ‘Lost Army’ video (pictured) was directed by Anthony Furlong, a leading creative for the movie, ‘Avatar’. To pull in such a pool of talent on a nothing budget demonstrates the fire surrounding this extremely dynamic release. No doubt the delivery will showcase its brilliance. And there is so much more. For instance DeLooze has created a fast growing “Glass Army’’. #jointhemarch began to take shape in April after the shows in Estonia. People around the world have ‘signed up as Glass Army soldiers, ' uploading images of themselves wearing DeLooze's emblem in support. See https://facebook.com/deloozemusic to get involved with DeLooze / The Glass Army.

Russian Gun Dogs set to Songs

to stir your heart. (live video) http://youtu.be/ciTGm9wFH7U awesome adoration for Russian Gun Dogs and their dark wave of danceable rock soundscapes, loaded with potential.

Tipped

for big things, they rounded off 2012 in the studio with Gavin Monaghan (Editors, Robert Plant, Ocean Colour Scene etc). 2013 began with more recording then a quick spring break to re-charge their energetic live show batteries, ready for Sat 6th July Main Stage, Godiva Festival (with Maximo Park, The View, Reverend & The Makers) Friday 30th August Lainfest, Atherstone. Releases and more live news soon, but feel free to discover this band right https://facebook.com/russiangundogs

Since #mpzine's Brum article in 2011 the Midlands has swelled its rich sonic history with increasing media profile. Bands dare to sound ambitious again. There was already a long wealth of status from Slade, Metal Rock, UB40 etc. Duran Duran are bigger now than they were in the

80s! The Enemy, Twang, Editors, Peace, Swim Deep etc maintain the momentum. In this vein of people's choice of new musical heroes, come Russian Gun Dogs. A Coventry band with a vast, alt-rock sound. You could not manufacture the connection between them and their fans, already.

Seeing as this group of young men have obviously got IT, Monthly Planet wondered; Did the band members know each other before Russian Gun Dogs came into existence? RGD :

That kind of following takes a potent mix of drive and appeal. There is passion from their audience that some ones-to-watch peers would kill for. Alongside these reactions, RGD are developed beyond early Editors comparisons, into something all their own

MP : In those early days; where and how did you compose and rehearse before your first time together in a studio?

To to have real fans, these days is an achievement in itself. Above the net-noise of thousands, daily shouting how do you get heard, let alone entice at least 30 people to your gigs?

RGD :

Without self fulfilling prime time TV exposure, you need XXX factor. That chemistry either pans out – or not – after a band actually forms.

)

Speaking of gigs, do you get nervous before you go on stage?

...and that live thing, one of the best things about being in a band?

MP : Does it help that you are based in a part of the country that has a healthy circuit to grow a genuine fan BASE, if you have the goods on stage?

Since their bedroom rehearsal days, Russian Gun Dogs have already played with Spector, The Subways, The Other Tribe, The Pidgeon Detectives, Twisted Wheel, Ash and more. Do they feel that gigging with well known and experienced musicians has rubbed off on their own learning curve?

(continued/‌)

RGD rounded off 2012 in the studio with reputable music producer, Gavin Monaghan (whose credits include The Twang and Paolo Nutini) on exciting new recordings. As he remarked publicly himself after their sessions;

2013 is, indeed off to a great start. Their song the

is on

playlist, and the band continue to raise their game.

Thank you for engaging with Monthly Planet, Russian Gun Dogs.

Touching on themes that range from power, sex and money through to love and vulnerability, It features a range of producers who have worked with a multitude of household names including Tinie Tempah, Gorillaz and Lady Gaga. Anyway, they are younger than the “seen / heard it all before” brigade.

2013 is a good year to fall for these British rockers. Their newer wave buzz, and live presence is word on the anti scene and latest release, 'Ignore Me' is a great introduction. Sure, on first listen, there are various comparisons to established bands that could be reeled off, to fill a review but that would be weary, and this band are anything but. There is a wide spectrum of influences competing in their sound as the group hone themselves towards the point where people will start to say about a song that it “sounds a bit like The Hotelles”.

The trio are developing, while still in the education system (two at the star-hub central that is Goldsmiths in New Cross). It doesn't matter whether you are 10 or 100, many music fans will always need entertainers with more to them than jumping on the latest critic approved scene and herd bandwagon. These last few years have developed a vanguard of appealing talents who have boldly gone beyond TV contest stardom for their inspiration. They are what the next musicians of repute will be made of. The evergreen 60s-90s music on BBC4, along with dwindling supplies of vinyl is raising a bracing rush of exciting fusions.

These aural delights can't help but be as thrilling to social development as anything from Robert Johnson onwards. Music is a gift that keeps on giving new gems. I prefer some new bands to the currently famous they are compared to. They are uncynically fresher, with a driven enthusiasm to break out of the world on the news. They make music that matters because it is from both the heart and soul. Romantic rock n roll daydreams can still invade the bleak mists of recession and division to spark soundtracks of escapism. The Hotelles are an urgent sounding, essential part of all that. I came across them accidentally while staging another event and was impressed immediately by a sophistication that makes their ages just numbers. They were booked on the spot to please come and play, and they very kindly did just that. (continued/‌)

They sure didn't disappoint, and in fact wowed ArtBeat friends and regulars, of various generations. Their on-stage energy was initially latent, but as an increasing part of the audience started dancing with each song, the buzz fed back and forth between the band and crowd. Something gelled with Tom (vocals/guitar), Ben (bass) and Sam (drums). Energised bass rhythms and guitar played with drop dead cool, glimpses of confident swagger and mature structures held tight by boxing hard drumming with a dead-pan delivery. The Hotelles at a regular haunt, Amersham Arms, New Cross, for ArtBeat live.

There's an obvious love of alternative music classics from both centuries which they have woven, seamlessly, into their composition to take what they do seriously without taking themselves too earnestly to connect with having fun playing a gig.

We loved their set and, happily, they got the vibe too and are re-booked to please come and play that passionately pop powered punk again (25th July). Be there.

In addition, The Hotelles, are developing a well oiled but independent cottage industry where creative, connected friends help make videos, spread the word etc. Self sufficiency is

a credit crunch advantage to their great potential. The bloggerati, cool events / promoters, and new-artist supporting radio, like what they hear and are coming on board. The story so far couldnt be more organic. The Easton Brothers followed each other, from first to last born, into the story, instrument by instrument. They conquered any sibling rivalry to emerge as a three headed democracy, writing and rehearsing after school. The band started playing live at house parties, then they properly became The Hotelles (and more serious about all aspects of turning professional). It does feel like gigging is rightly one of their favourite things about being a in a musical group. Keeping it real, they're not looking for too much too soon from “the industry. They’ve an ace on side in

They’ve an ace on side in the shape of producer, Cam Blackwood (The Horrors, Florence & The Machine, Take That etc) who adds a depth of quality to their sound. Not rocking the one-trick-pony thing, The Hotelles have the ingredients and substance for a real career as respected musicians. They are built on a firm foundation of wanting to create their own, collaborative original songs from the get go. Lyrical tales of life seen through their eyes in the great British tradition that translate sboth at home and abroad. Throw away your reservations. Jump right in. Embrace musical adventures, under the radar of establishment, in small venues. The Hotelles are, additionally, positive fun. Isn't that exactly what the world needs right now? #mpzine

The Big

Red Day

It takes a people’s musician to come and play live in a shipping container, to strip down and perform their songs so intimately, socialise with the audience and be paid in drink-n-pizza. That’s just what an engaging gang of friends, old and new, did at London’s smallest venue, the lorry truck stage behind The Big Red double decker bus pizzeria in Deptford. A very kind offer of professional photography couldn’t happen, due to the East London Line having a Sunday service hissy fit, so that’s not an arty blurry images effect, these really are just snap shots of a magic day, somewhere completely different… (continued)

Cold Committee The guitar pop tunes of this young rock n roll quartet from North Wales are attracting iinterest. They are in demand at the best shows. Leaning heavily upon the sounds of the 60's, creating moods commonly associated with a Tarantino soundtrack, gives them a unique vibe which promises to tear the music scene apart. Having focused on the songwriting process with Clive Martin (Sting / Stereophonics) and Ian Dench (EMF/ Florence And The Machine) and collaborating with Andy Treacey (Faithless/Groove Armada) on ' EP, Bang Bang Romeo have created debut release, their own melodic, dark and emotive soundtrack. A collaboration with internationally acclaimed DJ, Wally Lopez, is due for release through EMI this year. They deserve attention, having worked hard (over 150 live shows nationwide and 10 festivals) the strong start to a future that bodes well. Infectious ear worms are key. ‘A Flash Of Darkness’ Mark Morriss 'Its Hard To Be Good All The Time' is not just an epic, soaring stand out earworm of a tune on new album, 'A Flash Of Darkness' but also a fact of life. Luckily, this new release was worth every penny of the Pledge campaign that made it happen.
