WHAT IS CONFLICT MANAGEMENT? Conflict management is an innovative and exciting approach to understanding and addressing complex problems ranging from the interpersonal to the international. Conflict management professionals have the knowledge to see the opportunities in conflict and the skills to create positive change. For almost 20 years, the Master of Science in Conflict Management (MSCM) at KSU has provided graduate students a solid grounding in the theory, research, and practice skills they need to “manage conflict like a pro�.


WHAT CAREERS ARE IN THE FIELD?

MSCM students come to our program with a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and concerns about the world we live in. Our graduates learn listening, negotiation, facilitation, mediation, research, and creative problem solving for work in fields such as: • • • • • • • •

Courts and Government Education Human Resources Health Care Law Enforcement Technology International Peacebuilding Humanitarian Non-Profits


UNIQUE & ENRICHING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT In 16 months, you will learn negotiation, conflict theory, mediation skills, international peacebuilding, cross­‑cultural and international conflict resolution. Through our cohort model, you will take classes with the same group of students from start to finish.

The Foundation—1 Semester st

Build a foundation in the theories and practices of the field.

The Application—2nd and 3rd Semesters

Learn how to conduct research and apply the theories of the field to specific practice areas such as interpersonal, community, organizational, intercultural, and international arenas.


REAL-WORLD LEARNING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The Specialization—Final Semester

Specialize your learning through conducting research, engaging in an internship, or developing a training or workshop. Then, culminate your learning experiences through an exciting domestic or international study opportunity. Students have the option to travel with their cohort to a professional conference or on a study abroad experience. In either setting, students will have the opportunity to network with professionals and demonstrate their understanding of the field of conflict management.


EXECUTIVE & COHORT FORMAT MSCM operates as a cohort model, admitting a limited number of students each fall. This approach creates a unique and enriching learning environment and builds a lasting professional network.

CATERING TO PROFESSIONALS’ SCHEDULES • Full-time, 16-month program • One course at a time, 9 credits each semester • Alternating class weekends • Friday from 3:30 pm–7:30 pm • Saturday from 8:30 am–3:30 pm
