Es todo un lujo estrenar nuestro nuevo formato con una modelo como Angela Ryan. Pocas hay con la clase y elegancia que la distinguen. Su propio nombre es todo el aval que necesita. La lista de fotógrafos, estilistas, maquilladores, dibujantes, peluqueros o diseñadores de moda con los que ha trabajado es inmensa, como lo es la de revistas, libros, calendarios, galerías de fotos en Internet.Si echas un ojo a su cv en su perfil en Model Mayhem alucinas. No podemos más que sentirnos halagados de que nuestra colaboradora en USA, la siempre brillante fotógrafa Shannon Brooke, nos brindase hace unos meses la generosa oportunidad de presentar a esta muñeca en nuestras páginas. Jamás se lo agradeceremos lo bastante. Cuando recibimos la propuesta por correo electrónico dimos un brinco de la alegría. Cómo no. Angela Ryan en primicia, para el disfrute de toda Lanzarote. Esbelta y curvilínea, esta perla americana de mirada felina y carnosos labios, te enamora al instante con su increíble belleza y su determinación ante la cámara. Cuenta que su mamá estaba tan orgullosa de su preciosa niña que se pasaba el día entero haciéndole fotos, peinando sus tirabuzones e incluso maquillándola. La llamaba “mi muñeca de porcelana”. No es de extrañar que ya crecidita decidiera ser modelo profesional. ¡Tablas no le faltan! En cuanto cumplió los 20 comenzó a posar para tantos fotógrafos como pudo en su país, a la vez que se convertía también en una solicitada artista de Burlesco, y el resto es historia. De ahí vinieron viajes por todo el mundo, portadas en reconocidas revistas, programas de TV, ferias y convenciones... Sus señas de identidad: Su cabello rojizo, a veces eléctrico y otras más oscuro pero siempre en la gama de los rojos, como roja debe ser la pasión que lleva dentro, candente de puro fuego, y su piel que se podría decir que resplandece. Pero Angela no es solo bonita de la cabeza a los pies. La sensualidad que desprende con cada simple gesto es capaz de derretir a cualquiera. Y a ella le sale eso así, tan natural. Es una seductora nata, qué duda cabe. Solo le falta llevar un cartelito colgado al cuello que diga “Cuidado, Alto Voltaje”. Esperamos que te gusten las fotos que ilustran esta edición, aunque no sean más que un pequeño aperitivo, porque esperamos volver a tener a esta diosa en nuestras páginas muy pronto en un especial muy especial, así que ya sabes, no nos pierdas la pista ni un segundo. Is an absolute luxury to have a model like Angela Ryan when we launch the new format of our magazine. There are really very few with the class and elegance that distinguish her. Her own name is the only reference she needs. The list of photographers, makeup artists, illustrators, hairdressers or fashion designers she has worked with is immense and the same happens with magazines, books, calendars and photo-galleries on the Internet...If you have a look to her cv (at her Model Mayhem profile) you’ll immediately realize that we are talking about no other than a star. We feel so flattered that our collaborator in USA, the always brilliant photographer Shannon Brooke, gave us the generous opportunity to present this doll on our pages. We will never be thankful enough. When we received the proposal by e-mail we jumped for joy on our chair. How could we have said no. Angela Ryan in exclusive so all Lanzarote can enjoy her. Slender and curvy, this American pearl of feline look and fleshy lips, enamours you instantly with her incredible beauty and her determination in front of the camera. She says that her mom was so proud of her beautiful little girl that she would spend the whole day taking pictures of her, curling her hair and even putting makeup on her tiny face. She used to call her “my porcelain doll”. It’s not strange then, that once she grew up she wanted to become a professional model. She already had a long experience, that’s for sure! Once she was 20 she started posing for as many photographers in the country as she could, whilst at the same time becoming an excellent Burlesque artist. The rest is history. She started travelling the world, being featured on the cover of renown magazines, TV shows, fairs and conventions... Her trademark is her red hair, sometimes electric and others darker but always in the range of reds, like red must be the passion in her entrails, burning with pure fire and also her shinny skin. But Angela is not just beautiful from head to toes. The sensuality she brims with any simple gesture could melt anybody. And this comes so naturally in her. She’s a natural born seductress, no doubt. She should have a sign hanging from her neck that said “Be Careful, High Voltage”. We hope you like the pictures on this edition, even though this is just a small appetizer, because we expect to have this goddess on our pages again very soon, in a very special especial, so don’t miss us one single second. Cuando descubrimos su trabajo mientras vsitábamos galerías de fotos en Flickr, nos quedamos pasmados ante el realismo de sus pasteles. Actualmente, muchos son los medios de comunicación de todo el mundo que están publicando artículos que alaban su creatividad y nosotros que conocemos su trayectoria desde hace dos años, no podíamos ser menos.Sin duda hay que ser una superdotada para conseguir el resultado de las imágenes que ilustran este reportaje. Eso y que le pongas mucho amor a lo que haces y sin duda DEBBIE GOARD pone todo su cariño en cada una de sus creaciones. Tras veinte años decorando pasteles, se puede decir que tanto tiempo desarrollando su talento seguramente le haya ayudado a perfeccionarse como nadie en el sector, sin olvidar que en este caso hablamos de alguien que antes de dedicarse a esto era ya una sobresaliente artista visual. El destino (y el hambre que acompaña a menudo a los más bohemios) le llevó a trabajar en una pastelería donde tuvo que sustituir a la decoradora de pasteles que se había retirado ya. Y ya ves, desde el primer momento quedó claro que la chiquilla tenía mano para aquello.
Cada día es más frecuente encontrar arte y creatividad aplicada a la cocina y si hay algo que te permite jugar al máximo combinando las formas, colores e incluso los sabores ese algo es el mundo de la pastelería. Vamos a dedicar unas cuantas ediciones a geniales pasteleros que aparte de eso son auténticos artistas. Estrenamos sección con un artículo dedicado a DEBBIE GOARD, una increíble artista americana que diseña unos pasteles (sí, has leído bien) que son verdaderas esculturas, dignas de estar expuestos en un museo. Te contamos su historia y te presentamos algunas de sus obras más llamativas....Y sabrosas.

Lo bonito imaginamos que debe ser el tener la oportunidad de ganarte la vida con lo que te apasiona, haciendo de tu afición tu modus vivendis, puesto que un trabajo tan laborioso como este le ocupa a Debbie gran parte de su tiempo. Reacia a contarle a nadie los secretos de la elaboración de sus pasteles, los guarda celosamente como un mago sus trucos más celebrados, aunque actualmente está comenzando a aceptar ofrecer pequeños cursos o seminarios tanto a aficionados como profesionales de la pastelería. “No sufras Debbie, que se conozcan tus trucos no te hará menos importante, muy al contrario, se te admirará aún más.” Gente que quiere sorprender a su pareja en el día de su aniversario, grupos de amigos que buscan un regalo único y personalizado para un cumpleaños o empresas que requieren algo especial para sus eventos corporativos, son algunos de sus clientes habituales. Además de perfeccionismo y una presentación impecable, otra de sus máximas es la puntualidad a la hora de entregar sus pasteles y por supuesto el mantener una buena comunicación con sus clientes, pidiéndoles siempre que sean lo más exactos en la descripción de los diseños que quieren. A veces, fotografías o bocetos sirven de ayuda a
la hora de satisfacer las expectativas. Te preguntarás cuánto cuesta uno de estos pasteles. Si bien es difícil fijar un precio exacto ya que cada pastel tiene su propia complejidad, cualquier pieza esculpida parte de un presupuesto mínimo de 200 dólares, es decir, redondeando unos 140 €, así que tampoco es nada que no puedas llegar a permitirte, sobre todo cuando se trata de una ocasión especial y quieres un detalle que cause una gran sensación, pero claro, o estás en el área de San Francisco y la Costa Este de EEUU o mucho nos tememos que tengas que conformarte con la pantalla del ordenador... Aunque, hemos estado hablando con ella para que ofrezca un taller de pastelería creativa dentro de la programación de nuestro evento ERUPTION Fair & Festival así que es muy posible que tengas la oportunidad de verla trabajar en persona en Lanzarote. Será sin duda un privilegio y todo un espectáculo en sí mismo que no nos perderíamos por nada en el mundo. Además cabe esperar más de una dulce sorpresa y por si todo eso fuera poco la propia Debbie es todo un bombón, por dentro y por fuera. Tan guapa y tan artista, tu mamá estará contenta, ¿no?

When we first discovered her work while visiting photo-galleries at Flickr, we were astonished seeing the realism of her cakes. Many are the medias currently publishing articles that praise her creativity so we, knowing about her career since two years ago couldn’t be less. Everyday is more and more frequent to find art and creativity applied to cookery and if there is something that allows you to play and get the maximum out of it by combining shapes, colours and even flavours, that’s the bakery world. We are going to dedicate a few editions to great patissiers who apart from that are authentic artists. We open a new section dedicating an article to an incredible American artist who designs cakes (yep, you’ve read well) that are true sculptures, worthy of being exhibited in a museum. We tell you a little bit about her and we present you some of her most eye-catching and tasty works of art. There’s no doubt, you have to be very gifted to get the result you can see on the images illustrating this report. That and putting much love on what you do and for sure DEBBIE GOARD puts all her love on each of her creations. After twenty years decorating cakes, we can say that so long time developing her talent must have helped her to perfect herself as nobody else in this sector, without forgetting that in this case we are talking about someone who was already an outstanding visual artist before getting into patisserie. The destiny (and the starvation that ususally accompanies the bohemian) made that she was working at a bakery where she found herself substituing the cake decorator who was actually retiring in that time. So you see, since the very first moment our girl proved that she had a good hand for this! We imagine that the most beautiful thing is to have the chance to make a living and your modus vivendis with that what’s your passion, because such laborious work occupies most of Debbie’s time. Reluctant to tell anybody the secrets for the ellaboration of her cakes, she protects them like a magician does with his most celebrated tricks, even though she’s currently starting to accept giving classes to both fans and professionals of the patisserie. “Don’t suffer Debbie, to reveal your secrets won’t make you less important, on the opposite, the people will admire your skills even more. You must be wondering how much one of her cakes might cost. male beauty Su verdadero nombre es tan exótico como sus rasgos. Kihlexander Rose, a quien sus amigos llaman Phoenix, es un americano con raíces griegas, africanas e inglesas. Toma ya, que viva el mestizaje que nos brinda bellezones como este. Apasionado, vive la vida intensamente aprendiendo de cada experiencia y enriqueciendo una personalidad que es de todo menos simple. Y si estás pensando que un chico guapo como él es seguramente todo vanidad, estás equivocad@. Muy al contrario, suele preocuparse más por los demás que por sí mismo, mostrándose generoso y tendiendo su mano siempre que puede y alguien lo necesita. Aunque a primera vista podríamos decir también que con semejante palmito el chico no debe pasar mucho tiempo solo, no se deja llevar por cualquier ligue si percibe que no va a aportarle nada que mejore su vida o carácter. A sus 23 añitos, claro está, el chico derrocha energía y por eso disfruta moviendo su cuerpo tanto como puede ya sea practicando el atletismo o bailando. Su filosofía lo dicta bien clarito: “Vive el momento y no pienses que ningún día está garantizado.” Soñador, no necesita estar dormido para fantasear con todo aquello que ambiciona en la vida y que piensa conseguir a toda costa. Empeño y talento como modelo no le faltan, aunque si piensas que posar es todo lo que quiere hacer en un futuro, de nuevo te equivocas. Su máxima meta es tener su propia escuela y ser maestro. (¿A que te gustaría tenerle como “profe” de anatomía y que él mismo fuese el modelo para todas y cada una de las partes del cuerpo?). Cree en el Karma y también en la existencia de un Dios que para nada tiene que ver con lo que impone ninguna religión, y eso no le impide ser leal con sus amigos y amantes, así que para qué necesita él que le vendan ninguna moto. Sin duda, no está vacío y en cualquier caso prefiere llenarse él mismo con lo que le parece oportuno, huyendo de lo impuesto porque sí. Sinceramente, no cree que resida ahí la evolución de nuestra especie. ¿Su mejor cualidad aparte de sus hermosas facciones y el cuerpo grácil de gacela con el que sus genes africanos le han premiado? His real name is as exotic as his features. Kihlexander Rose, who’s called Phoenix by his friends, is an American, with Greek, African and English roots. Take that, long life to crossbreeding which brings us such beauties like this one. Passionate, he lives life to the fullest, learning from each experience that enriches a personality that is anything but simple. If you’re thinking that a handsome guy like him is all about vanity, you’re wrong. On the contrary, he takes care of others before himself, being generous and holding out his hand when someone needs it. Even though you could say at first sight that being such a cutie this guy won’t spend much time alone, he doesn’t fall in love easily with anybody that he doesn’t perceive is capable to improve his life or character. At 23 years, he’s full of energy of course, so that must be the reason why he enjoys moving his body as much as possible, both with running and dancing. Other hobbies include listening to nearly all types of music, but the more danceable the better, singing and of course hanging out with friends. Being so young it’s obvious that he tries to live for the moment without worrying very much about any thing, and in any case his main worry is to be happy. And he does it right. His philosophy says it all: “Live the moment and don’t take any day for granted.” A dreamer, he doesn’t need to be asleep to fantasize about all the ambitions which he will reach at any cost. As a model, determination and talent are something he definitely has, but if you think posing is all that he wants to do in the future, you’re wrong. His ultimate goal in life is to own his own school where he can teach others. (Wouldn’t you like to have him as anatomy teacher so he can be the model to show you each and every one of his body parts?) He believes in Karma and in a God that has nothing to do with any religion, and this doesn’t impede him from being loyal to his friends and lovers, so why the hell does he need anybody selling him the bill of goods. There’s no doubt, he’s not empty and in any case he prefers to fill himself with whatever he thinks is right, avoiding the imposed just because others say it has to be like that. Sincerely, he doesn’t believe that the evolution of our species lays there and his best quality, apart from his gorgeous features and that graceful gazelle body his African genes have rewarded him with? It’s got to be his capability for laughing at himself and even being goofy as long as the circumstances allow it, transmitting to the others his contagious good vibes. La derogación de la ley que prohibía hasta Diciembre del 2010 a los homosexuales servir en el ejército sin ocultar su tendencia sexual (conocida como “Don’t ask, don’t tell” o lo que es lo mismo, “No preguntes (por parte de los mandos), no lo cuentes (por parte de los soldados)”), posibilitaba con ese memorando que las capillas pudieran albergar pronto bogas gay en aquellos estados en donde fueran legales. El documento se filtró en el diario online The Navy Times y de ahí al resto del mundo. Como era de esperar, las protestas en distintas armadas americanas no se hicieron esperar, provocando manifestaciones por parte de algunos militares que al menos evitaron insultantes pancartas (frecuentes en anteriores ocasiones). “El Ejército de EE UU rectifica su decisión de permitir bodas gay”. La pena es que el “país de la libertad” ha estado tan cerca de dar un paso tan importante en cuanto a derechos humanos... Para quedarse en intento una vez más. Si en el seno del ejército, segundo dios para los americanos después de cualquiera que sea el primero (Buda, Alá, Jesucristo, el dinero...), se hubiese permitido el matrimonio gay, habría sido una gran victoria para la comunidad, a pesar de levantar hirvientes ampollas en ciertos estados radicales como Texas o Alabama. Muchos otros, sobre todo del norte, que ya están cerca de comprender que la igualdad de derechos de estos ciudadanos con respecto a otros es una cuestión de lógica y humanidad, podrían haber dado un paso más amparados por esta circunstancia. Pero todo ha quedado en agua de borrajas y el país donde comenzó la lucha por la igualdad en el año 69, sigue siendo el único de los países desarrollados que sigue negando un derecho básico a sus ciudadanos. Pero claro, ¿cómo se puede comparar el derecho a llevar un arma o a disparar a cualquiera que entre en tu propiedad, con el derecho a ser tratado como un ser humano cuando has nacido con dos brazos, dos ojos, dos piernas, un corazón y un alma (muchos dicen que existe), como todos los demás habitantes del planeta? Una pena.

Unfortunately, it looked more like a headline worthy of April’s fool day, instead of real news, coming from the States. Inside you could read the line “as long as the faith of the pastor would allow it”. Fair enough. I read the news with indifference because I didn’t believed it for a second. I have lived in USA and I cannot imagine, even for a moment, that the gay community may someday live in freedom and equal rights ...And even less if it depends on the Army regardless the black, hero (for allowing Bin Laden’s death, hahaha) and liberal president they have. The derogation of the law that prohibited until December 2010 gays to serve in the military without hiding their sexual orientation (known as “Don’t ask, don’t tell”), allowed as an internal memo said that the chapels where normally are officiated marriages would soon hold gay weddings as well in those states where they are considered legal. The document was leaked on line in the journal The Navy Times and then the rest of the world. As expected, protests within of several U.S. armies quickly begun and even the military came out to refuse this possibility, although, having the courtesy to keep their personal opinions for themselves without writing it in insulting banners (as has happened in the past). So unsurprisingly, the aforementioned headline changed within hours by the following: The U.S. Army rectifies its decision to allow gay weddings. The pity is that the “Land of the free” it has been so close to really achieve an important step in terms of Human Rights ... But remaining just as a attempt again. If within the army, the second god for the Americans after whatever would be their first (Buddha, Allah, Jesuschrist, Yavhé, the money...), would had allowed gay marriage in their chapels it would have been a great victory for the community, despite raising burning blisters on certain radical states such as Texas or Alabama. Many others, especially those in the North, which are closer to understanding that gay marriage and equal rights for these citizens with regarding others is a matter of logic and humanity, could have had the opportunity to go one step further covered by this circumstance. But everything is back to being in smoke and the land where it began the fight for equality in 1969 , remains the only developed country that still denies a basic right to its citizens. But, how could you compare the right to carry a weapon or to shoot anyone who traspasses your property, with the right of to be treated as a human being when you were born with two arms, two eyes, two legs, a heart and a soul (many say there is), like all the other inhabitants of the planet? How sad.

Es prácticamente imposible mencionarlas todas, aunque con esta nueva serie dedicada al cine de los 80 vamos al menos a intentar rememorar aquellas películas que seguramente ocupen un lugar especial en el corazón de muchos de nuestros lectores. Sin duda la década de los 80 fue prolífica en todo lo referente al arte y a la industria del entretenimiento. Era la época de ir al videoclub de la esquina y alquilar tres o cuatro cintas para devorarlas a veces incluso antes de haber pasado el fin de semana. Te sugerimos que vuelvas a hacer lo mismo aunque el VHS haya pasado ya a la historia. El formato digital o el DVD siguen invitando igual que antes a que te repantingues en el sofá con un cubo enorme de palomitas entre las piernas y tu refresco favorito bien fresquito en
una mano... Aaahhh, qué gran placer el de recordar! Cuántos de nosotros no habremos ido al cine a ver alguna de estas películas a la vez que comenzábamos a tontear con el amor?! Y cuántos no nos habremos enamorado del/la protagonista pensando entonces que teníamos tanto tiempo por delante que quizás incluso llegaríamos a conocerle algún día?! La magia del cine señores y señoras. Que la sigan disfrutando por siempre jamás. PD: No esperes una lista solo de películas ganadoras del Oscar sino más bien para nostálgicos empedernidos. Dustin Hoffman en el clímax de su carrera. Una auténtica delicia ver a esta bestia de la interpretación en uno de sus papeles más memorables y en una película divertidísima. La historia de un actor que pasa de estar casi muriéndose de hambre a ser la estrella más rutilante de la TV. Y de qué modo! Sorprendentemente como en tantas otras ocasiones, la Academia no le dió el Oscar a Hoffman pero sí a Jessica Lange como mejor secundaria.
Recurrente fantasía la de la maniquí que cobra vida como la chica perfecta. Un jovencísimo Andrew McCarthy que será recordado mayormente por esta película, y una bellísima Kim Cattrall que tampoco acabó de cuajar tras este papel a medida son los protagonistas. Como curiosidad, un James Spader en su octavo trabajo para la gran pantalla y como momento idílicamente ochentero, el temazo musical de Starship “Nothing’s gonna stop us now” al final de la película.
El eterno fetiche marino de la sirena, siempre funciona. Y qué niña no ha soñado con ser una en algún momento de su infancia. Tom Hanks y Daryl Hannah al comienzo de sus carreras viven un amor de cuento de hadas con un final idílico y muy acuático. La cola de sirena maravillosa, aunque el esmalte color perla que luce en las uñas de las manos no creemos que lo haya comprado en una perfumería bajo el mar. Aún así, una historia encantadora.

The eternal sea fetish of a mermaid, it works everytime. And what girl hasn’t dreamt of being one sometime during her childhood. Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah in the beginning of their careers and living a fairy tale love with an idyllic and very aquatic end. The tail of the mermaid simply wonderful even though we think that the nail polish she wears on her hands wasn’t purchased at any under the sea store. Anyways, a charming story.

Dustin Hoffman at the peak of his career. Absolutely delightful to see this beast of interpretation playing one of his most memorable roles in a superfunny movie. The story of an actor who will go from nearly dying of starvation to being the most dazzling TV star. And how he made it! Surprisingly like in many other occasions the Academy didn’t give the Oscar to Hoffman. Jessica Lange won it as the best supporting actress.

THE WOMAN IN RED (1984) Dir. Gene Wilder Gene Wilder dirige y protagoniza una comedia inolvidable que si bien no recibió muy buena crítica, cumple con la misión principal de entretener. Un cuarentón en plena crisis cae rendido a los pies de una exhuberante modelo. Los intentos de vivir con ella una aventura extramatrimonial le meterán en un lio considerable. Momento memorable: Kelly LeBrok emulando a Marilyn sobre una salida de ventilación en un parking subterráneo. Gene Wilder directs and stars and unforgettable comedy which despite of receiving not many positive critics, fulfills its main mission that it’s basically entertaining. A man in his fourties and living a mid-life crisis will fall madly in love with a voluptuous model. He’ll try hard to live an extramarital adventure with her but not without getting himself in a considerable mess. Memorable instant: Kelly LeBrok playing around like a modern Marilyn on the ventilation grate in a subterranean parking.
DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN (1985) Dir. Susan Seidelman Madonna eclipsó totalmente a la protagonista Rosanna Arquette, con su sola presencia en el set. Nunca después estuvo tan brillante interpretándose a sí misma. Por otro lado, se las maravilló para incluir el tema “Into the Groove” en la cinta así que mató dos pájaros de un tiro en cuanto a su promoción. La actuación del siempre eficiente Aidan Quinn y un ambiente puramente 80 compensaron un poco un guión un tanto flojillo aunque pasable. Madonna eclipsed totally the protagonist Rosanna Arquette, just with her presence at the set. She would never again be so brilliant playing herself. On the other hand she managed things to have the song “Into the Groove” included in the film so she killed two birds with one stone and got an excellent promotion. The always efficient Aidan Quinn and the purely 80’s atmosphere compensated the secondrate yet passable script.
THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987) Dir. Rob Reiner La película perfecta para toda la familia. Comedia, aventura, romance y fantasía son los ingredientes básicos de una historia basada en la novela de William Goldman con el mismo título. Una debutante y preciosa Robin Wright y un Cary Elwes que cautivó en la época a más de un@ con su no menos dulzón atractivo, protagonizan este cuento ambientado en la Edad Media junto a un elenco de brillantes actores secundarios. Bonita de principio a fin. Merece realmente ser vista. The perfect movie for all the family. Comedy, adventure, romance and fantasy are the basic ingredients in a story based on William Goldman’s novel with the same title. A debutante and gorgeous Robin Wright and a not less sweet and attractive Cary Elwes who was able to captivate thousands of spectators in that time, are the stars in this tale set in the Middle Ages accompanied by a cast of brilliant supporting actors. A beautiful film from the beginning to the end. Really worth watching it.
It’s practically impossible to mention all of them, even though with this new series dedicated to the 80s cinema we will at least try to recall those movies that surely occupy a special place in many of our readers hearts. There’s no doubt, the 80’s decade was so prolific regarding art and entertainment industry. It was the time of going to the video-club to hire three or four films and devour them even before the weekend had ended. We suggest that you do it once again even though it’s a long time since the VHS went down to history. The digital formats and DVD continue to inviting you to settle yourself on the sofa with a big pop-corn bucket between your legs and your favourite refreshing drink in one hand...

De nuevo el buen resultado de la magnífica batuta de Rob Reiner. Aunque con grandes competidoras en taquilla aquel año como “Indiana Jones y la última cruzada” o “Batman”, la recaudación superó con creces su presupuesto original de 16.000.000 de dólares, llegando a los 92,823,546 mill. Meg Ryan y Billy Crystal derrochan química en el set, planteándonos a través de sus personajes el eterno dilema: ¿Pueden los hombres y las mujeres ser alguna vez solo amigos? A ellos parece que el destino les ha puesto a prueba.
Una de las cinco películas que más recaudaron en 1987, que además se llevó 3 premios de La Academia: Mejor guión adaptado para la pantalla, mejor actriz principal (Cher) y mejor actriz secundaria (Olympia Dukakis). Un joven Nicolas Cage tampoco se queda corto en su actuación. Tras 24 años, esta tragicomedia romántica sigue cautivándonos con sus líos amorosos a la luz de la luna llena y un guión divertido y lleno de locuacidades. Ideal para un Sábado de “sofing” y risas. Por alguna razón (quizás el destino lo haya querido así) he acabado dando con una mujer muy especial, de Ontario, en Canada. Facebook tiene algunas cosas muy buenas, para qué negarlo, y a veces te brinda la posibilidad de encontrarte con gente maravillosa. Así es la mujer que ocupa estas páginas. Su sonrisa ya me había cautivado mientras miraba sus fotografías más cotidianas. Se tomó con tal entusiasmo que le diésemos la oportunidad de aparecer en nuestra revista, que finalmente decidimos que se merecía dos páginas y no solo media. No podemos dedicarle la revista entera, pero si pudiéramos, lo haríamos. Te presentamos a Carrie Dehn, un auténtico ángel en nuestro planeta Tierra. A sus 41 años, lleva quince en cuidados paliativos, es decir, al cuidado de enfermos terminales de cáncer. Adora su trabajo y aunque podemos imaginar lo duro que debe ser, tiene que ser muy satisfactorio también el poder ayudar a los demás en ese momento tan especial en el que abandonan el mundo terrenal. Carrie cree firmemente que los espíritus se mueven entre nosotros. Quizás, el estar tan cerca de la muerte todos los días le ha brindado la oportunidad de experimentar y ver cosas que otros sencillamente no captan. Y quizás por este trabajo sea también que vive la vida lo más intensamente que puede, disfrutando al máximo de sus amigos y de sus muchas y sanas aficiones que incluyen el excursionismo y cómo no, la acampada, montar en bicicleta, los animales, hacer pasteles...Sufre de insomnio crónico, probablemente provocado por lo mucho que trabaja casi siempre ceñida a horarios intempestivos. Y a pesar de todo, es capaz de llegar a cualquier lugar e iluminarlo completamente. Sus amigos se lo dicen, que resplandece. Seguramente no lo sepan, pero eso se debe a su aura de ángel. Y como incluso los seres de luz tienen sus pequeñas debilidades cuando pasan a nuestra dimensión, a este ángel le ha dado por tatuarse casi todo el cuerpo, engancharse a la mantequilla de cacahuete JIF hasta el punto de haberse tatuado un bote en el interior de uno de sus muslos (a lo mejor por eso tiene un alma tan dulce), ser una fanática de las películas de terror y si son gore aún mejor (no le asustan porque ella sabe que no hay nada que temer respecto a la muerte) y posar como modelo siempre y cuando su agenda se lo permita. En las relaciones prefiere ser seducida, y aunque pueda parecer lo contrario, no da un paso adelante hasta que llega el momento oportuno. Para ser honesta, no me importaría nada morir en los brazos de una criatura así. Es más, seguramente querría repetir.

The deadline for this edition was getting closer and I was still looking for a tattooed girl to be featured in this section. For some reason (maybe destiny has something to do with it) I ended up contacting this so special woman who lives in Ontario, Canada. Facebook has some very good things, we cannot deny it, and sometimes it gives you the chance to find wonderful people. And this is how this woman is. Her smile has already captivated me whilst looking at her pictures daily. She took the idea of appearing in our mag with such enthusiasm that we finally decided that she deserved not just half page but two pages. To be honest, we cannot dedicate the entire mag to her but if we could we’d do it. Let us introduce you to Carrie Dehn, a real angel on Earth. At the age of 41 she’s been working as PSW (personal support worker) for 15 years now, specializing in palliative care, that is taking care of people who are dying of cancer. She loves her job and even though we can imagine how tough it must be, it must be also very satisfying to help the others in those special moments when they leave this earthly world. Carrie does firmly believe in spirits moving amongst us. Maybe being so close to death everyday has brought to her the chance to experiment and see things other people simply just don’t grasp. And maybe also because of her job she’s living the life to the fullest, enjoying as much as she can being with her friends and her many healthy interests. She loves hiking and of course camping, biking, baking, animals, the 80’s music,dancing and of course to laugh as much as she can. Besides, it happens that she has the glorious capability of transmitting her contagious laugh to anyone, so this must be also a good reason why so many people adore her. She suffers from chronic insomnia, probably due to working for so long due to unearthly hours. And despite everything, she’s grateful with what she’s got and able to arrive to any place and completely lighten it up. Her friends use to tell it to her, that she shines. Maybe they don’t know it, but this is caused by her angel aura. But even the light beings have their little weaknesses when they pass into our dimension, so this angel has come up with having nearly her entire body tattooed, becoming addicted to the JIF peanut butter to the point of having a bottle tattooed on one of her inner hips (maybe that’s why her soul is so sweet), being a fanatic of horror and gore movies (they don’t scare her because she knows there’s nothing about death to be afraid of) and posing as model as much as her tight agenda allows it. About love relationships she prefers to be the one who’s wooed and even though her outsides may tell a different story, She doesn’t make a step forward until the right moment has come. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind at all to die in the arms of such a creature. Indeed, I would surely want to repeat.

La primera vez que vi una foto suya en Facebook pensé: “Wow, es una modelo perfecta para fotos inspiradas en los años 30.” Me recordó a la mismísima Annaïs Nin...Y si no a ella, a una prima muy cercana. Tal es su pasión por la moda vintage que a menudo la verás peinada, maquillada y vestida con aires muy retro. Desde la Época Victoriana a los años 50, vive fascinada con esas décadas. Pero mi sorpresa fue aún más grata cuando leí que aunque María S. Varela posa ocasionalmente como modelo, su profesión es realmente la de fotógrafa. Afincada en Munich pero madrileña de nacimiento, ha conseguido hacerse rápidamente un hueco en el cada día más concurrido sector de la fotografía, sobre todo la inspirada en épocas pasadas, que está tan en boga que claro, cualquiera agarra una cámara, cuatro disfraces y listo, que para qué vamos a buscarnos un trabajo a nuestra medida si todos somos artistazos de nacimiento...No sigo por ahí que me enciendo. En cualquier caso, María no forma parte de ese grupo de “quiero y no puedo, pero yo insisto” sino todo lo contrario. La muchacha tiene el arte en las venas porque seguramente lo ha mamado, y si no es eso entonces será que su destino era estar donde está porque sinceramente, y aunque su carrera no ha hecho más que empezar, su trabajo hasta la fecha habla por sí solo. Desde el 2009 se dedica enteramente a la fotografía y a día de hoy puede presumir de haber trabajado ya con algunas modelos y marcas de prestigio. Su trabajo se ha visto publicado en varias revistas reconocidas tanto de España como de Italia y USA, catálogos de moda, flyers y páginas de Internet.
Además de pulcritud y precisión tanto en la producción como en el posterior tratamiento de sus imágenes, estamos hablando de alguien que se toma muy en serio su trabajo, siendo la puntualidad algo que valora muchísimo. De carácter abierto, es alguien con quien cualquier modelo, maquillador, estilista o asistente se siente cómodo a la hora de trabajar. Le gusta esparcir buenas vibraciones en el set y que el trabajo fluya con naturalidad. Unas risas pueden ser siempre el paso previo a un mágico instante de improvisación. La clase de momento que todo fotógrafo espera captar al menos una vez durante cada sesión.

Digamos que las limitaciones no le van demasiado y no será ella misma la que se las ponga, no. La chica habla aparte de español, italiano e inglés, entiende bastante bien el portugués y por si fuera poco está aprendiendo alemán, porque sin duda hablar varios idiomas te abre muchas puertas en este trabajo.
Con una agenda bastante llenita hasta finales de año, está buscando constantemente modelos, a poder ser con una personalidad marcada que puedan dejar una impronta especial y única en un trabajo ya de Actualmente trabaja bastante con modelos de estilo Pin Up y también por sí escrupulosamente brillante. Por lo que a mi respecta, espero con artistas de Burlesco, pero no limita su talento creativo a estos es- posar para ella un día. Ponerse en sus manos debe ser un auténtico tilos sino que también disfruta con trabajos más alternativos, así como placer y una experiencia profesionalmente maravillosa.
The first time I saw a picture of her in Facebook I thought: “Wow, she’s a perfect model for pictures inspired from the 30’s”. She reminded me Anaïs Nin herself…And if not to her, a very close cousin of her. Such is the passion she has for vintage fashion that you will frequently see her wearing make-up, hairstyle or clothes with a characteristic retro air. From the Victorian Era to the 50’s, she’s fascinated by those decades. My surprise was even bigger when I read, gladly, that even though María S. Varela poses occasionally as a model, she’s really a photographer. Settled in Munich but born in Madrid, she’s rapidly making herself a place in the everyday more and more crowded sector of photography, especially that one inspired on decades of the past, which are so in fashion now. Of course, anyone can grasp a camera, a few costumes and voilà! Why should we try to find a job to measure up to, when all of us are natural born artists…I will stop now or it will get heated otherwise. In any case, María doesn’t belong to that group of wannabes, but to the opposite side. This girl has art running through her veins, because she has surely been breastfeed with it, or it must be that her destiny is to be where she is because, sincerely, even though her career has just taken off, her work speaks for itself. She’s been entirely dedicated to photography since 2009 and she can be proud today of having worked with some prestigious models and brands. Her work has been published in several renowned magazines in Spain, Italy and USA, but also in fashion catalogues, flyers and websites. Besides precise and meticulous work at both the production and the post-treatment of the images, we are talking about someone who takes her work very seriously, punctuality being something that she values very much. With a friendly and open character, she’s someone any model, makeup artist, stylist or assistant feels comfortable with. She likes to scatter good vibes at the set so the work flows naturally. Some laughs lead to a magical improvisation instant. The kind of moment any photographer hopes to capture at least once during each session. She’s currently working pretty much with Pin Up styled models and also some Burlesque artists, but she doesn’t put limitations on her creative talent. She also enjoys other more alternative works, some Fetish photography or even reports for fashion editorials, with a more commercial approach. Let’s say she has no limitations, so she won’t be the one limiting her creativity, that’s for sure. Nos habíamos quedado en la Época Eduardiana, para situarnos un poquito. El Ballet Ruso de Diaghilev había marcado tendencias, pero aparte de esto y de la estrella vamp Theda Bara, considerada la primera sex symbol del cine, poco más podemos mencionar sobre el maquillaje en este período de tiempo. No es que hubiera dejado de existir, sino que desafortunadamente lo más destacado de esos años es la Primera Guerra Mundial y aunque la moda siguió su curso en París, en la mayor parte del mundo civilizado todo lo relacionado con la estética personal se detuvo en seco. Pero tras esto llegaron los locos años 20 y con ellos las ganas de olvidar las desgracias del pasado y divertirse por todo lo alto. La vida se valoraba mucho más, siendo más conscientes de lo efímero que es todo y de que vivir y disfrutar el día a día es a fin de cuentas lo que te llevas a la tumba. Durante toda la década se producirán grandes cambios y avances a todos los niveles y el cine y los musicales de teatro tendrán un gran protagonismo, con grandes estrellas del espectáculo marcando tendencia, no solo en el vestir sino también en cuanto al modo de peinarse y maquillarse. Es la época conocida musicalmente como la Era del Jazz así que montones de locales nocturnos dedicados a este tipo de música se abrirán en las principales capitales del mundo. El peinado ideal era el famoso flequillo Bob, eterno compañero de la actriz Louise Brooks. Como ella, miles de jovencitas se aventuraron a pasar la noche en clubs de Jazz, liberadas de todo encorsetamiento, fumando cigarrillos y luciendo pierna y maquillaje exagerado. Se las llamaba flappers. El baile más de moda era el Charleston y su representante más icónica, la afroamericana Josephine Baker, reina del vaudeville que revolucionó París entero con sus bailes y erotismo. En USA como en otros puntos del planeta, nacen los primeros mitos de Hollywood como Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich. Gloria Swanson, Clara Bow...
En cuanto a la industria de la cosmética, las grandes marcas siguen innovando para satisfacer un mercado creciente además de suministrar productos indispensables a la industria del cine y del espectáculo en general. El Teatro de Broadway se inauguró en 1924, ofreciendo tanto obras de vaudeville como proyecciones de películas. Tanto las unas como las otras han necesitado del maquillaje para potenciar en gran medida el atractivo y sex-appeal de sus estrellas. Por otro lado, el maquillaje ayudaba en gran medida a que la expresividad de los actores del cine que por aquel entonces era mudo, se viese remarcada. Por ese motivo el rostro pálido y tanto los labios como los ojos o las facciones se coloreaban exageradamente. Un look parecido al de muchas actrices de esta época es el que lucen muchos de los adeptos al movimiento cultural Goth. Se podría decir que hay ciertas influencias de esta década en él. Eran especialmente características las cejas depiladas muy finas e incluso redibujadas con un lápiz del mismo tono y los labios meticulosamente delineados, como los de una muñeca de porcelana. Elizabeth Arden desarrolló sus cremas nutritivas, tónicos y lociones para mantener el rostro limpio e hidratado. Al mismo tiempo, Helena Rubinstein creaba cremas especiales para protegerse de los rayos del Sol. Esto se agradeció bastante, sobre todo porque la diseñadora de moda Coco Chanel había puesto de moda el culto al astro rey. Más adelante, Helena Rubinstein, siempre a la vanguardia, comenzó a fabricar polvos compactos para el rostro y barras de labios aunque no se usaron tanto en los años 20, cuando una imagen más juvenil y natural era lo que imperaba, sino en los 30...Pero del maquillaje en esa década os contamos algo en la próxima edición.

The Russian Ballet of Diaghilev set new trends, but apart from this and the vamp star Theda Bara, considered to have been the first sex symbol in cinema, there isn’t really much to mention about makeup during this period of time. Unfortunately, the most outstanding matter in those years was the First World War and even though the fashion continued its evolution in Paris, on most of the civilized world the concept of personal aesthetics was standstill. But after this, the crazy 20’s arrived and with them the willing to forget any misfortune from the past and having as much fun as possible. The people started to value life much more, being more conscious about how ephimeral everything can be and realizing that to live and enjoy the day by day it’s all that you will take with you to the grave after all. Many changes and advances at any level will take place in the whole world during that decade and cinema and theatre musicals will be great protagonists, with many stars of the show business setting trends, not just with their wearing style but also because of their hairstyle and makeup. This period was musically known as The Jazz Era and thousands of nightclubs dedicated to this musical genre will open in the main capitals of the world. The most trendy hairdo was the Bob fringe, so characteristic of the actress Louise Brooks. Like her, many young girls would spend all night long at Jazz clubs, liberated from their corsets, smoking cigarrettes, showing their legs and wearing exaggerated make-up. Regarding the cosmetic industry, the big brands will continue innovating to satisfy a growing market besides supplying with indispensable products the film industry and show business in general. The Broadway Theatre opened its doors for the first time in 1924, presenting vaudeville shows and motion pictures. For both makeup has been necessary to maximize the attractive and sex appeal of their stars. On the other hand, makeup helped to a large extent remarking the expression of the actors on the silent movies. For that reason they always showed a pale face and an exaggerated colouring for lips, eyes and features. We can find a very similar look nowadays on the fans of the Goth Culture. We could even say that this movement has been partly influenced by this decade as well. It was frequent to wear very thin eyebrows redrawing them with a pen with a similar tone and to outline the lips meticulously like those of a porcelain doll. Elizabeth Arden was developing nourishing creams, tonics and lotions to maintain the face clean and hydrated. At the same time, Helena Rubinstein was creating special creams to protect the skin from the Sun. This was very welcomed, especially because the fashion designer Coco Chanel had made Sun worshipping fashionable. Later, Helena Rubinstein who was always at the leading edge, started to manufacture compact face powders and lipsticks even those they were not so used in the 20’s, when a more natural and youthful image was the sensation on all the magazines. It will be in the 30’s that makeup will become even more popular but you will have to wait for the next issue, sorry!

Pedías en una de tus letras que se cancelara tu suscripción para la resurrección, y ahora, en el 40 aniversario de tu muerte física tu recuerdo está más vivo que nunca. Recientemente os han dedicado un nuevo documental, a ti y a tu banda, aplaudido y laureado mundialmente, e incluso hay una compañía de ballet que está representando tu vida usando como banda sonora las canciones que grabaste consciente de estar dejando un tesoro cultural inconmensurable. Aunque acabaste hastiado de la fama con todas sus mieles y sinsabores, siempre supiste que lo lograrías, que seguirías fascinando a generaciones enteras de hombres y mujeres que han visto en ti mucho más que al legendario líder de THE DOORS. Y por si fuera poco, te han perdonado por lo de Miami (!)...Aunque a ti qué cojones te importa eso ya. Yo te descubrí durante mi propia etapa de adolescente rebelde y como a muchos otros, tu voz y la forma en que magistralmente la aplicabas a la hora de cantar me cautivó para siempre. Indómito, inconformista, sublevado, provocador e incluso a veces peligrosamente temerario, salías a escena y derretías al público con uno solo de tus alaridos. Y aún con todo ese derroche de carisma y empuje, además de ser todo un genio, eras al mismo tiempo tan frágil, tan sensible, traumatizado y enfermo como estabas del mundo que te rodeaba, oh mi poeta atormentado. Cuánto dolor en tus letras, que combinadas con la maestría musical de tus compañeros de grupo, dieron como resultado el sonido mágico e inimitable de la que es sin duda una de la bandas de Rock más carismáticas, oscuras y brillantes de los 60. Los chicos se dejan crecer el pelo imitando tu mítico peinado, claro que no es fácil encontrar muchos hombres con esos rasgos tan hermosos que tú poseías. Menudo Apolo estabas hecho. You asked in some of your lyrics for the cancellation of your subscription to the resurrection, and now on the 40th anniversary of your physical death, your memory is more alive than ever. There’s a recent documentary dedicated to you and your band, worldwide applauded and prize-winning, and there is even a ballet company which is representing your life using as a sound track the songs you recorded, being conscious about the immeasurable cultural treasure you were leaving. Even though you ended sick and tired of the fame, with all its sweet flavour as well as its displeasures, you always knew you were going to get it, to fascinate entire generations of men and women who have seen in you more than just the legendary front man of THE DOORS. And if all that wasn’t enough, you’ve been pardoned for that night in Miami (!)...But of course you surely don’t give a shit about it, do you? I discovered you during my own rebel adolescence and as it happened to many others, your voice and the way you brilliantly applied it to your singing captivated me forever. Indomitable, nonconformist, rebellious, provocative and sometimes even dangerously reckless, you appeared on stage melting the audience with just one of your yells. And yet with all that tremendous display of charisma and self-confidence, besides being an absolute genius, you were at the same time so fragile, so sensitive, traumatized and ill for the world surrounding you, oh my tormented poet. How much pain in your lyrics, that combined with the musical mastery of your band mates gave as result the magical and inimitable sound of what it is with no doubt one of the most charismatic, obscure and brilliant Rock bands from the 60’s. Such a cosmic phenomenon you guys were. How well the stars got to align, so those four young boys left an artistic legacy which in its genre is still difficult to exceed. Let me tell you that nowadays you would symbolize as good as you did in the past all what it goes against the tide, being politically incorrect, or as you said, an erotic politician, against of any system, because you were free...At least to certain limit or on certain aspects of your life, even though being free of some demons you never were. I’m sure there are many politicians that admire you secretly. They wish to have your ability to reach a quorum, you were able to get the people together and shake their entrails. You hypnotized the masses. Your words bathed in LSD were an authentic bomb, your presence on stage something irrepetible, exceptional, unforgettable. Recitals of poetry and pure Rock & Blues. You are still part of countless sexual fantasies, no matter if you wanted it or not, even though I’m pretty much sure that you liked it, so exhibitionist you were...But hey, we love that. Thousands of fans visit every year Jim Morrison’s grave, the legendary front man of THE DOORS. Turned into an indispensable recommendation in any travel guide and even though the original bust representing the famous poet and singer was first damaged in an almost irreparable way and later stolen (who knows if it was sold in the black market and it’s now in any strongroom at the house of a mafia-millionaire), this grave is probably the most visited monument in the whole cemetery. For sure Jim didn’t want this, and even less that many merchandise items like postcards with the picture of his grave were sold as Père Lachaise souvenirs. En 1817 les tocó el turno a los que podría decirse que son la versión franco-religiosa de Romeo y Julieta: Pierre Abélard y Héloïse, que existieron de verdad y cuyos cuerpos fueron supuestamente transferidos desde el Oratorio de Paraclete. Sea como sea, y aunque muchos incluyendo el propio Oratorio claman que lo que hay en Père Lachaise es un mero monumento, se cuentan por miles las cartas que amantes y solteros que esperan tener mejor suerte en el amor, dejan en la cripta. Otra tumba digna de mención es la de Victor Noir, periodista francés, cuya escultura en bronce yace exactamente en la posición en que fuera encontrado muerto en la calle tras un disparo. Alguna extraña leyenda urbana dice que dejar una flor en el interior de su sombrero, besar sus labios y rozar su area genital brindará fertilidad, una vida sexual rica y marido en el transcurso de un año para aquellas que no lo tengan todavía. Muy desesperadas deben andar algunas porque tanto los labios como la protuberancia sexual de dicha escultura brillan actualmente más que el Sol. El caso es que de unas pocas docenas de enterrados, en pocos años el cementerio pasó a albergar los huesos de más de 33.000 y actualmente ya son más de 300.000 los que descansan aquí, incluyendo también a los incinerados que ocupan el columbario. Tanta celebridad atrajo rápido el deseo de otros de compartir la última morada. Tal es la vanidad humana. Otras eminencias sepultadas incluyen a Sarah Bernhardt, Honoré de Balzac, MarÍa Callas, Édith Piaf, Oscar Wilde (cuya tumba está cubierta de besos de carmín) o Jim Morrison, por citar solo algunos de los más destacados, sin olvidar tampoco los 3 impresionantes monumentos en memoria de las víctimas del Holocausto Nazi.

Miles de fans visitan cada año la tumba de Jim Morrison, el legendario líder de THE DOORS. Convertida en recomendación indispensable en cualquier guía de viaje y aunque el busto original que representaba en efigie al famoso poeta y cantante fue primeramente dañado de forma casi irreparable y finalmente robado (a saber quién lo tiene, si se vendió en el mercado negro por una millonada y está ahora en alguna estancia acorazada de algún mafias-millonetti), esta tumba es probablemente el monumento más visitado de todo el cementerio. Seguramente Jim no querría eso, y mucho menos que se vendieran artículos de merchandise y postales con la imagen de su tumba como souvenir de Père Lachaise. Pero como seguro que más de uno de nuestros lectores debe ser fanático hasta los huesos de esta figura irrepetible, sugerimos unos enlaces interesantes que seguro que serán útiles para cuando realices la ruta (si no lo has hecho ya) que sigue los pasos del Rey Lagarto (y su compañera cósmica Pamela Courson) en sus últimos días en París, y que termina por supuesto en su tumba en Père Lachaise.

Dudamos mucho que la ciudad de la luz quiera prescindir hoy día de esta atracción que aparece en cualquier guía de viaje. Y es que una media de dos millones de visitas al año es una cifra nada despreciable. Admiradores nostálgicos no pueden morir sin haber acariciado la lápida de sus ídolos que aunque enterrados en cuerpo, permanecen inmortales en la conciencia global, pero también son muchos los artistas gráficos que visitan este sitio para plasmar algunos de sus más bellos rincones ya sea con una cámara fotográfica o un pincel.
Located on a hill, this cemetery wasn’t very well received in the beginning by the Parisians who considered the place too far away from the city. Consequently, just a few funerals took place there, even though, in 1804, the year of its opening, a masterly marketing operation by the administrators made this place the great tourist phenomenon it is today. Who would have said then that over the years and thanks to the many graves and mausoleums of big figures of culture and art whose mortal remains rest under its land, the place would become the world’s most visited cemetery. We really doubt that the city of light wants to do it without this attraction recommended by every travel guide. An average of two million visitors per year is not an inconsiderable number. Nostalgic admirers can’t die without having caressed the gravestone of their idols, who even when buried as bodies, remain immortal in the global conscience, but also many graphic artists visit this place to capture some of its most beautiful spots both with the photo-camera or the brush. The first illustrious personages buried there were those of La Fontaine and Molière. In 1817 it was the turn of the French-religious version of Romeo and Juliet: Pierre Abélard and Héloïse, who were real people and whose bodies were supposedly transferred from the Oratory of Paraclete. However, and even though many including the Oratory itself
claim that what’s at Père Lachaise is nothing but a mere monument, thousands of letters are left on the crypt by lovers and singles expecting to have better luck in love. Another grave that deserves to be mentioned is Victor Noir’s, French journalist, whose bronze sculpture lays on his grave exactly in the position he was found on the street, murdered by a gunshot. Some strange urban legend tells that placing a flower in his hat, kissing his lips and rubbing his genital area will bring fertility, a blissful sexual life and a husband within a year to those women who are still single. Some must be very desperate because both the lips and the sexual protuberance on the sculpture shine currently more than the Sun itself. The thing is that from containing just a few dozens of tombs, the number of buried people grew in a few years up to 33.000. Nowadays, there are more than 300.000 bodies buried there, including those who have been cremated and that occupy the columbarium. So many celebrities rapidly attracted the wish of others to be sharing the last resting place with such glorious people. So vane we humans are. Other eminencies buried include: Sarah Bernhardt, Honoré de Balzac, MarÍa Callas, Édith Piaf, Oscar Wilde (whose grave is covered by hundreds of lipstick kisses) and Jim Morrison, just to name a few outstanding names, without forgetting 3 amazing Nazi Holocaust memorials.

Interviewed by TOM MASSEY MOVE: Hola Justeen, es un gran honor dar la bienvenida a una mega-estrella y superventas de la industria musical y mediática. Gracias por tomarte el tiempo para contarnos a nosotros y a millones de fans lo que piensas realmente de ellos y qué planes tienes para el futuro. JB: Sin problema, mi representante me dijo que viniera porque sois una revista muy guay, que no solamente quiere saber lo que como, qué marca de agua bebo, cuándo me duele la cabeza por los potingues en mi shampoo, o saber sobre mis momentos más privados, cuando estoy solo en casa, ya sabes lo que quiero decir! (¡se ruboriza!) Las cosas normales que hace todo el mundo. Incluso cuando me tiro un pedo, puedes leerlo al instante y sin retraso en Internet, y entonces cientos de paparazzis se presentan para hacerme fotos. Eso no es divertido ni tiene importancia, pero me han llegado a decir que haga eso y otras cosas sin sentido, porque el mundo entero necesita saber qué pasa conmigo en todo momento, y sobre todo y lo más importante: Eso vende. Sólo tengo que sonreír o agitar mis manos hacia las cámaras para que ellos puedan vendérselo a cualquier editorial o canal de TV en el mundo. Ese tipo de cosas, ¿sabes? MOVE: Hmm, sí, vale...Muy interesante! Has tenido cerca de 600 millones de clicks en tu éxito “BABY” en YouTube! Increíble! No está mal para un crío de diecisiete, que ganó dos docenas de premios nacionales e internacionales desde su debut en 2009. Incluso el museo de Madame Tussaud te ha rendido homenaje con una figura de cera. ¿Cuál es el verdadero secreto detrás de tu fenomenal éxito? JB: Adivino que se trata de mi música
que es única y de cómo bailo y mi vestuario guapo, sin olvidar a los medios que manipulan a mis devotos fans en todo momento! Mis directivos saben exactamente qué hacer y cómo hacerlo. Me dicen siempre qué debo hacer, qué decir, qué ropas vestir, qué canciones cantar, blablabla. ¡Son brillantes profesionales! ¡Ya sabes de qué hablo! No tengo que pensar por mí mismo en absoluto, ¡todo está amañado de antemano! Solo el tema del baile es bastante más duro como trabajo físico, pero como todavía soy joven, ¡me resulta fácil! Tengo que ensayar casi cada día mis coreografías, y no podría ganar tanto dinero si tuviese que estar pendiente de mi vida y mi carrera al mismo tiempo, así que de este modo me centro en mi papel y alguien más gestiona mis cuentas. Hago playback en mis actuaciones. Es realmente imposible saltar por ahí como un loco y cantar en directo al mismo tiempo. Puedes preguntarle a Madonna sobre este tema...¡Y no es que ella sea mala en eso!
MOVE: Madonna??? Sí, claro!!! Justeen, estás viajando constantemente alrededor de todo el planeta, ofreciendo conciertos y entrevistas, recogiendo premios y generando montañas de dinero. ¿No es todo eso muy estresante? JB: Sí, por supuesto. Debo estar de gira el máximo de tiempo posible, sacando partido mientras sea una monada. Si no lo hiciera, mucha gente a mi alrededor perdería su trabajo y no podrían permitirse más sus confortables estilos de vida y las grandes fiestas que se meten en el cuerpo. Mi representante dice que soy como una petrolífera. Tenemos que perforar tan rápido como podamos para sacar lo mejor que hay en el fondo en un tiempo limitado. ¡Y no olvidemos a los patrocinadores! ¡Me pagan una fortuna para que genere dinero para ellos al mismo tiempo! ¡Es toda una locura!
¡¿dónde está la gracia?! África ya tiene bastante con apañárselas con toda la mierda que vertemos allí y siempre están con alguna guerra o revuelta, enfermedades muy chungas y cuidado médico insuficiente, sin comida ni agua corriente. ¡No quiero ponerme enfermo o que me disparen! JB: No problem, my manager told me to show up because you are a very cool magazine which not just want to know what I eat and what sort of water do I drink, when I got headache because of the bad stuff in my shampoo or asking about my very private moments, when I´m home alone, you know what mean! (he flushed!) Normal things like everybody else, but even when I fart, you can read it immediately on Internet with no delay and then hundreds of paparazzi show up to take their photos. That’s not funny and less important, but I´ve been told to do so and some other nonsense, because the whole world needs to know what’s going on with me at any time, and the most important thing: Because it sells. I just have to smile or wave my hands towards the cameras so that they can sell it to any editorial or TV channel from around the world. This sort of stuff, you know?
MOVE: Madonna??? Yeah, sure! Justeen, you are constantly travelling around the globe, giving concerts and interviews, collecting awards and making lots of money. Isn´t that very stressful?
MOVE: Hmm, Yeah, okay… Very interesting! Nearly 600 million views of your hit “BABY” on YouTube! Amazing! Not bad for a kid of seventeen, who has won two dozens of national and international awards since his appearance in 2009. Even Madame Tussaud´s honored you with a wax figure. What is the true secret behind your phenomenal success? JB: I guess my unique music and how do I dance, my cool outfits and of course the medias, that manipulate my devote fans at anytime! My management knows exactly what it takes and how things work. They tell me always what I have to do, what to say, what cloths to wear, which songs to sing, blablabla, they’re absolute brilliant professionals! You know! I don´t have to think by myself at all. Everything’s arranged in advance! Just the dancing is pretty much hard physical work, but I am still young, easy going! I have to rehearse nearly every day my choreographies and I couldn´t make so much money if I had to look after my
JB: Yes, of course. I must be on tour as much as possible and as long as I am such a cutie. If I would’t do so, many people around me would lose their jobs being no longer able to afford their comfortable lifestyle or wild parties anymore. My manager says I am like an oil rig. We have to drill as fast as we can to get the best out of the ground in a very short time. And don´t forget all the sponsors! They pay me a fortune to make money for them at the same time! That´s really crazy! MOVE: What´s about Africa or China? JB: Africa, doesn´t make sense to me at all. Almost 99% of the people over there are so poor that they have no money to buy the tickets, caps, posters or whatever. How could I be on stage with no lights or sound, when there is not enough electric power or not even a TV show for the interviews, no computers or Internet. None of them can make a mail order on my website, so what´s the point! Africa has to deal with all the waste we dump over there and there’s always some war or rebellion going on, many bad diseases and not sufficient medical care or food or clean water. I don´t wanna get sick or shot! It´s simply too dangerous and not worth, just a waste of time! And time is money! But they have lots of wild animals. This is why I am dealing with PETA. Everybody likes animals and this is why my manager told me to do so too, so everybody liked me and bought my merchandising stuff. This is very important to me, you know? Understood? It´s all about good marketing to make lots of money! And I will have a huge income from royalties and license fees for the rest of my life, and my manager too! Simple as that!

Algunos temas como el que hoy ocupa esta sección han llegado más allá de las listas de radio conquistando las discotecas de todo el mundo gracias a un ritmo 100% bailable y a unas letras que encajaban perfectamente con el espíritu discotequero de la época. Some themes like the one that we present today in this section have reached such position in the charts that they have conquered nightclubs all over the world thanks to a 100% danceable rhythm and lyrics that totally fit the clubber spirit of that period of time. The song was recorded in 1984 with the voice of LAURA BRANIGAN who sadly passed away. This gorgeous and charismatic singer and actress suffered a brain aneurysm in 2004 depriving her of life at 47, but she will always be remembered by her musical and artistic legacy, and especially for this song that even though it was a version of the original cowritten by the Italian singer Raf and his studio colleagues Giancarlo Bigazzi and Steve Piccolo, will be eternally associated to her name. Included on the album with the same name,
“Self Control” rapidly hit the #1 in Germany and the same number was reached by Raf with the same song in Italy. That happened in the beginning of the summer so it was frequent to hear this song at many terraces and discotheques during the whole season, becoming a true hymn. The lyrics basically talk about love, passion and the sensual power that the night is able to exert on our bodies and minds, but some lines such as “I, I live among the creatures of the night” or “I must believe in something, so I’ll make myself believe it, That this night will never go” soon became the singsong of any creature from the world’s nocturnal fauna. The song also became the tune of the year in Switzerland, and it peaked at #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and the #2 on the Dance chart. Internet no deja de sorprendernos y hacernos la vida cada día más agradable (al menos en ciertos sentidos) y entretenida. Y si no, que nos lo digan a nosotros. Pasamos horas frente a la pantalla del ordenador, trabajando duro para que esta revista sea la favorita entre la gente de hoy en Lanzarote, y también en el resto del mundo gracias a la plataforma que nos ofrece la red para difundir nuestra información. Como podréis imaginar, son muchas las horas del día y de la noche que empleamos en nuestro trabajo y si no fuera por la música la cosa no sería soportable de ninguna de las maneras, por mucho que amemos nuestra profesión. Hace unos días un buen amigo nuestro nos dió a conocer la fantástica iniciativa de la gente de RADIONOMY, una plataforma en línea que facilita a usuarios de todo el mundo el que puedan no solamente sintonizar con múltiples y variadas emisoras de radio sino también crear la suya propia e incluso presentarla en una web. Lo tienes todo explicado en una excelente web, donde tienes acceso (previo registro) a las herramientas y programas (todo gratuito, al menos por ahora) que necesitas para arrancar tu propia emisora. Además, las opciones musicales son infinitas, con los distintos géneros y subgéneros musicales bien clasificados, para todos los gustos y con una muy buena calidad de sonido. Lo mejor de todo quizás sea que la empresa se encarga totalmente de todos los costes: Royalties, hosting y difusión. Formando parte de la comunidad de Radionomy, no solo tienes acceso a todo eso, sino que además puedes hacer comentarios, compartir las emisoras en Facebook o Twitter o crear listas de favoritos. Si te atreves con tu propia emisora tendrás la ocasión de crear listas con las canciones extraídas de infinitas librerías, que actualmente contienen más de 100.000 temas aunque siguen creciendo, e incluso grabar y añadir tu voz o la música que tú mism@ hayas podido producir. Hasta hace muy poco, el contenido de la web estaba solo disponible en francés e inglés, pero recientemente ya han añadido los idiomas español y holandés. Seguramente con la respuesta positiva que están obteniendo, no tarden mucho en traducir el contenido a muchos más idiomas. Un fabuloso invento que está revolucionando el concepto de radio en Internet. Os lo recomendamos sin dudarlo.

As you can imagine, it’s many hours at daytime and night time that we spend with our job and if it wasn’t for the music this would be completely unbearable, no matter how much we can love our profession.

No siguen un patrón concreto y huyen de las etiquetas como el ratón del gato. La propuesta musical de estos cuatro jóvenes de Gran Canaria tiene demasiada personalidad como para meterlos en ningún saco. Lo cierto es que cuando nos escribieron unos meses atrás interesándose por tocar en ERUPTION Festival, resultó una sorpresa más que grata el escuchar el disco en mp3 que adjuntaban en su correo. Las primeras notas ya nos convencieron. Nos hicieron partícipes de lo que ya despunta como un auténtico bombazo no sólo en el archipiélago canario sino mucho más allá de sus mares. THE AMAROSES tomó forma en 2008, cuando Rodrigo y Dao unieron talentos, aportando la guitarra el primero, y sus altos conocimientos en música electrónica el segundo. No pasaría mucho tiempo hasta que conocieran a Demelza, la cantante que pone voz aterciopelada a las canciones, que llevaba un tiempo sin saber muy bien adónde dirigir sus pasos tras la ruptura con su anterior banda. No obstante y porque adivinamos que esto de montar una banda no es tarea fácil ni mucho menos, Dao regresaría a su Brasil por circunstancias personales, dejando a sus dos compañeros aquí que aunque a expensas de ver qué sucedía a continuación no perdieron ni por un segundo la ilusión de seguir componiendo temas, casi más por diversión que por otra cosa. Pero como algunos han nacido para lo que han nacido, ese tiempo les sirvió para crear su primera maqueta que estaba lista a finales de año. Con aires de los 90, baterías programadas, guitarras eléctricas y la profunda y desgarrada voz de Demelza, ese primer EP titulado “Drinking Up” llegó a cautivar los oídos de Radio3 y a escalar alto en diversos concursos nacionales. Aún sintiéndose un tanto limitados e incompletos, el dueto siguió tocando durante meses en salas de toda Gran Canaria, ofreciendo un formato acústico de gran calidad que dejaría boquiabierto al público en cada uno de sus recitales. Llegan así al otoño de 2009, cuando conocen a Félix Henríquez, batería con una larga trayectoria en varias bandas reconocidas como Habitáculo o The Bucannan por citar un par, y a Coré Ruíz, bajista y vocalista de la banda Japoneses, que por aquel entonces conducía un interesante proyecto solista llamado “Piedras In The City” en el cual tocaba diversos instrumentos además de darle voz. Experto además en audiovisuales, Coré ha dirigido el primer videoclip de la banda para su tema “Dirty House” incluído en su segundo EP “Creating the Monster”. Muchas bandas pasan años encerrados en garajes, tocando incansablemente, intentando dar con esa fórmula tan equilibrada y perfecta que les catapulte a ese lugar que sueñan. Pero pasa que hay mucha competencia, y que no basta con saber componer, ni tan siquiera con tener un buen oído musical o criterio. THE AMAROSES tiene todo eso y más. En su corta carrera, están ya destinados a triunfar por todo lo alto. En su breve trayectoria juntos, la síntesis de sus talentos ha dado como resultado un producto alternativo a la vez que 100% vendible. Algo no siempre fácil de conseguir. La combinación de los cuatro ha cuajado tan bien que llegaron a ganar el concurso La Caja Sonora en 2010. De ahí han pasado a ser incluídos en el cartel del WOMAD, el festival musical más reconocido hasta la fecha en las Islas Canarias, y otros tantos festivales de renombre están considerándolos para sus próximas ediciones. Nosotros que tampoco tenemos mal oído, ni andamos cortos de criterio, tuvimos clarito desde el primer día en que tuvimos la fortuna de conocer su música, que no dejaríamos pasar la oportunidad de tenerles en nuestro cartel. Y ante la calidad de la que hablamos, ni siquera vamos a presentarlos como banda regional. Podemos darles con absoluta tranquilidad y convencimiento la categoría de banda nacional con alta proyección internacional. No te los pierdas en ERUPTION el año próximo. Su directo es realmente de los que conmueven y ponen los pelos de punta.
They don’t follow any concrete standard and they flee from labels like the mouse from the cat. The music these four guys from Gran Canaria present has too much personality to put them in the bin. The truth is that when they wrote to us a few months ago showing their interest on playing at ERUPTION Festival, we were gladly surprised to be able to listen to the mp3 record they sent together with their message. The first notes convinced us. They were sharing with us something that is already appearing like an authentic bombshell, not just in the Canarian archipielago, but also overseas. The story of THE AMAROSES goes back to 2008, when Rodrigo (guitar) and Dao (an expert on Electronic Music) decided to unite their talents. It didn’t take long until they met Demelza, the singer who puts her velvety voice to the songs. She was expecting by then to find her way again after the break-up with her last band. However, and because we imagine it’s not easy at all to set up a band, Dao was going back to his homeland Brazil due to personal matters leaving his two fellows on the island, expecting to see what was going to happen next but either not wasting any time nor losing the illusion for composing new songs even though they did it more for fun than with any really serious purpose. But we guess that some people are born with a destiny they just can’t change, all that time working, finally had its recompense. They had in their hands by the end of that year the first rough cut of a record with 90’s influences, programmed drums, electric guitars and the profound and hoarse voice of Demelza. That first EP (extended player) which received the title of “Drinking Up” got to captivate the ears of Radio3 ( www.rtve.es/radio/radio3/ ) and reached important places in various national contests.
They met Félix Henríquez in the autumn of 2009, a drummer with a long career playing with renown bands such as Habitáculo or The Bucannan to name a couple, and Coré Ruíz, bass player and solo artist with an interesting project named “Piedras (stones) In The City” involved the playing of several instruments besides putting his voice on it. Also an expert on audiovisuals, Coré has been the director of the first videoclip of the band for their song “Dirty House” included in their second EP “Creating the Monster”. Many bands spend years enclosed in garages all over the world, playing tirelessly, trying to get that so balanced and perfect formula which will catapult them to that place they have ever dreamt. But it happens that the music industry is a very competitive sector, so it’s not enough just composing, and not even having a good musical ear or judgement. THE AMAROSES has all that and more. In their short career, they are already destined to reach the peak of their industry. Even though the four members haven’t spent much time together, the synthesis of their four talents have given as a result an alternative yet 100% sellable product, which is something not usually so easy to get. The combination of these four has come together so well that they won the contest La Caja Sonora in 2010. After this, they have been included in the line-up of WOMAD, the most recognized music festival to this date in Canary Islands and other important festivals are also considering them for their future editions.

Cuanto más pequeño más fácil de conseguir, ¿no es así? Planearlo todo es una cosa, pero el presupuesto para un evento semejante (no olvides que estamos hablando de 16 días) es enorme. Dependemos este primer año de inversores y patrocinadores y desafortunadamente las cosas pueden dar un giro de 180º de la noche a la mañana. Eso significa que debes ser flexible y adaptarte rápidamente a la nueva situación. Perdimos dos grandes inversores en Diciembre del 2010, así que nos sentamos de nuevo para replantearlo todo, pero reducir el evento no se barajó jamás. Para poder acoger los conciertos de tantas grandes estrellas mundiales durante ese período de tiempo necesitaremos construir un estadio temporal para un mínimo de 35.000 personas. NÜSSLI, empresa líder mundial en infraestructuras temporales de este tipo está deseando trabajar con nosotros en este gran evento. Traer a una banda para un fin de semana no resulta efectivo, como tampoco lo es ofrecer los eventos gratuitamente. El método de NIGHTTHINGS dará algo a todas las personas en la isla sin costarle un céntimo a los contribuyentes!
“Lo primero es lo primero, y ERUPTION es lo próximo que tengo que hacer” CB - Entonces, cuál es la siguiente fase? Estamos ahora ocupados redondeando el asunto con inversores y patrocinadores. El dossier artístico que es por así decirlo una especie de plan maestro está casi listo, así que pronto comenzamos a redactar contratos para que nuestro Director de Producción vaya cerrando compromisos con artistas de primera clase mundial que serán los cabezas de cartel de ERUPTION Festival. Tenemos en mente emplear al menos a 100 personas en nuestras oficinas y a más de 1000 trabajando en los días que dure el evento aparte de otras tantas dándole forma los meses previos. Debo coordinar nuevas reuniones con el Gobierno de la isla y varios ayuntamientos que deben ayudarnos a conseguir los distintos permisos que se requieren y tenemos también varias serias negociaciones con empresarios de la isla tras las que esperamos que suban a bordo también. Este va a ser un grandioso equipo con todos los miembros tirando con fuerza hacia una misma dirección.
CB - He podido ver ese primer dossier con las primeras ideas incluídas en el programa. Aluciné con las muchas opciones que los visitantes van a tener aparte de los espectáculos musicales y otras actuaciones. Aunque sé que no puedes revelar todavía muchos detalles...¿Podrías no obstante adelantar algo sobre el recinto? ¿Qué van a encontrar los visitantes en este lugar? Este festival es mucho más que música sonando alto. Vamos a traer una diversidad de atracciones capaz de satisfacer casi todos los gustos. No estamos ofreciendo simplemente un género de música para jóvenes o más mayores. Los 16 días acogerán a las mejores bandas y DJS del mundo y también algunos de los mejores artistas del mundo presentarán su arte en distintas exposiciones. Los restaurantes y bares temáticos que se construirán temporalmente ofrecerán la mejor comida y bebidas, sin olvidarnos claro está de los más jóvenes. Tanto nuestra feria como nuestro Fun Park dispondrán de varios escenarios donde se representarán una serie de increíbles espectáculos a lo lardo de todo el día y nuestros artistas de calle entretendrán a todos los visitantes por toda la ciudad. Arrecife resplandecerá vibrante como nunca. CB - Pudimos leer algo también en la última edición sobre ERUPTION Street Team. Esto suponemos que va a ser una parte importante en toda la organización. ¿Qué puedes decirles a los cientos de jóvenes de la isla que puede ser que no anden muy ocupados en estos momentos y estén posiblemente disponibles para trabajar en este proyecto?

Darán grandeza a la organización y ambiente durante los 16 días, siendo compensados por su trabajo con la oportunidad de disfrutar de nuestros conciertos y sesiones de DJS aparte de otros privilegios. Esperamos que sientan que han contribuído a hacer algo por la isla y que obtengan placer con ello. Sin duda llegarán a hacer amistades con gente de todo el mundo que puede que duren toda la vida. Esperamos que quieran volver a colaborar con la próxima edición de nuestro festival y que se lo pasen en grande junto a nosotros. CB - Bien, pues muchas gracias por tu tiempo Ian. Para terminar: ¿Qué haces para relajarte? Por ahora no he dispuesto de tiempo, pero obtengo satisfacción de ver cómo los planes resultan un éxito. Pensándolo en serio, espero volver a tener tiempo para pintar acuarelas, seguir cocinando y trabajar con algunas organizaciones benéficas. Pero lo primero es lo primero, y ERUPTION es lo próximo que tengo que hacer.

We continue introducing you the team behind the project of ERUPTION Fair & Festival. It’s now the turn of IAN K. DAWSON, MSc born in England and deeply in love with Lanzarote. He is the Project Director of NIGHTTHINGS Productions S.L. With his long experience on his shoulders, he has believed in the idea since he first heard about it. It didn’t take longer until he came aboard our ship being unconditionally supportive and putting his valuous knowledge to our service. Chris Bombardi has interviewed him for all of you when everything’s about to take off.
“First things first though, and Eruption is next”
CB - Hello Ian. How did you get to know about ERUPTION Fair & Festival? It’s a long story Chris, but basically I came to retire to the island and open a restaurant. After thirty years working on oil platforms, I was looking forward to it. I was advertising with MOVE Magazine and started talking to Tom who is now Technical Director about Eruption Festival. It was such a fantastic opportunity I wanted to get involved and before I knew it I was forming NIGHTTHINGS Productions LTD with my 3 partners. CB What exactly is your job in the company and how does you role fit in the whole scheme behind a project like ERUPTION? My background is engineering and project management and I’ve found that the skills and experience that I’ve gained over the years, around the world have easily transferred into the world of event management. It´s my job to turn the fantastic vision and imagination that Tom and Rossana have, into the actual thing and that is done by supporting them through some difficult times and applying strict management rules about budget and scheduling to hit some serious deadlines. It’s easy to get carried away and very important is to keep everybody grounded and focused CB - You’ve been living for quite a long time in Lanzarote, so you know pretty closely the island in general. How do you think this big event will change the manner in which the tourists see this place? I ask you this because we know there’s much more behind this event? From day one the four partners have all been agree that we are not doing this just for the money. It would be easy to do what many have done and just stage some mediocre music event, get some cash in the till and walk away. We decided early days that we can put something back into the community. We are going to work with the young people of the island in a constructive way. We are going to bring permanent employment, directly and indirectly, to the residents of the island and we are going to give tourism the massive injection that it needs. It is our intention to invest a big part of the profits of Eruption into the people and fabric with jobs and infrastructure of the island and help to make it a centre of excellence and a jewel of the Canary Islands. CB - We know that there have been complications in the early stages of the project which have now been overcome. We guess that such a big event is not cheap so we can easily imagine that it’s quite hard to get something like this together. Did you ever have in all these months the idea of making something maybe smaller? The planning is one thing, but the budget for such an event of sixteen days is enormous. We rely on investors and sponsors and unfortunately things can change overnight. You have to be flexible and adapt quickly. When we lost two major investor in December 2010 we had to sit down and reappraise what we were trying to do, but down sizing the event was never on the cards. The economy of scale that is provided by bringing all the major stars and bands together for this period means we only have to build the temporary 35000 plus seat stadium once and NÚSSLI, who build the Worlds largest stadia are looking forward to joining us in this venture. Bringing one band for a weekend isn’t cost effective, neither is giving away events for free. The NIGHTTHINGS method will give something to everybody on the island and it won’t cost the tax payers a penny!
CB - So, what are the next steps? We are busy rounding up the last of our investors and sponsors. The artistic dossier, which is the master plan is just about to be completed and now we start writing contracts, getting the Producer on board to start booking the World class line-up that will be headlining Eruption Festival. We plan to have almost one hundred staff in our new offices and over one thousand people employed on the days of the festival and the months leading up to it. I’ve got to coordinate the meetings with the Government and various Town Councils to gain the detailed permissions that are required and we’ve got some serious negotiations to complete with the local businessmen of the island to get them on board. It is going to be one great big team with everybody pulling in the same direction. CB - I’ve seen the first dossier with the brainstorming of the ideas included in the program and I was amazed with the many options the visitors are going to have apart from the music shows and other spectacles. Even though I know you can’t reveal many details now… Could you at least tell us some bits and pieces on the enclosure? What are the visitors going to find at this place? This festival is more than just loud music. We are bringing a diversity of attractions to appeal to as many people as possible. We are not simply catering to the young or old one genre of music. The sixteen days will see the top bands and DJs from, but also many top artists from around the World will be bringing their art to exhibitions. The restaurants and theme bars that will be built just for the event will present the best food and drink and the junior public haven’t been forgotten either. The fairground and Fun Park will have various stages around the area and will be presenting a big number of awesome spectacles throughout the day and many street entertainers will amuse everybody throughout the town. Arrecife will be just glowing and vibrating like never before. CB - We could also read something on the last edition about the ERUPTION Street Team. This is going to be an important part on the organization. What can you say to the hundreds of young people in the island who are maybe not very busy at the moment and possibly available to work on this project? As I said previously, we are trying to be completely inclusive and to this end we are encouraging hopefully 300 young people to become what we are calling the ‘Street Team’, to take charge of keeping the event site tidy, to be informative when asked for information and to generally be available when needed. They will add greatly to the organization and atmosphere of each day of the festival and the bonus is they will get to see the great bands and DJs for free apart from other privileges. We hope that the Street Team will feel that they have contributed to doing something for the island and get some pleasure out of it. Without a doubt they will make some great lifelong and possibly international friends. We hope they want to come back for the next festival and have a great time with us. CB - Well, thank you for your time Ian. To finish: What do you do to relax? At the moment I haven’t got time, but I do get pleasure from seeing a plan come together. Seriously though I hope to get time to get back to painting watercolours and putting more time into my cooking and charitable organizations. First things first though, and Eruption is next.
