About KAWA
KAWA is a national provider of professional development services to enhance learning outcomes for educators, schools and children around the country. It was founded by teachers of St. Mary’s College Kisubi as a non-profit CBO transforming the Ugandan Education system through technology and capacity building. KAWA partners with innovative Secondary Schools which received computers from government to deliver world class technology literacy to teachers. We are experts in technology integration in Pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, mentorship and CPDs for teachers. Over the last 5 years, 3000 Educators have gained competencies needed to apply technology skills to the teaching and learning process, creating a richer learning experience for students, and saving precious time.
KAWA is working with MUBS in supporting Primary and Secondary schools to integrate appropriate ICTs in the teaching and learning process using the computers provided by UCC.

CHALLENGE
Teachers in a large number of schools are still stuck in the 19th century theoretical approaches of teaching, with little or no digital literacy. 12
KAWA works with communities, local and regional authorities, governments, international stakeholders, NonGovernmental Organisations (NGOs), and other development-orientated organisations around the world to promote digital literacy, and to deliver ICT skills development across all key sectors.

Eng. Paul Charles Rukundo is an aerospace engineer and social entrepreneur who believe that we have got a moral obligation and the opportunity to champion social causes for the betterment of society. Training of Computer lab managers In 2012, we trained 520 Computer lab managers throughout the country using centers such as Manjasi High School in Tororo, Dabani Girls School in Busia, Mbale SS in Mbale, Masaba SS in Sironko, Wiggins SS in Kumi, Nyero Rock SS in Kumi, Soroti SS, Lira Town College, St. Mary Assumpta in Adjumani, Sir Samuel Baker in Gulu, Luwero SS, Trinity College Nabbingo, Kololo SS, Kisiki College Namutumba, Bweranyangi Girls, Kabale SS, Kyamakanda SS, Ntare School, Masaka SS, Mityana SS, Mubende High School, St. Leos Kyegobe and Kasese SS. Teacher Continuous Professional development:
On December 4, 2013 Hon. Jessica Alupo launched the KAWA Continuous Professional Development in ICT for teachers of Secondary and Primary Schools as a project to be implemented by the KAWA, MUBS and the her Ministry, starting with headteachers and deputies. This program is ongoing in Nebbi, Zombo, Maracha, Koboko, Arua, Adjumani, Moyo, Yumbe, Oyam, Nwoya, Kitgum, Otuke and Dokolo district. It was piloted in Tororo and Wakiso schools in 2014 ith ASSHU 15
Digital Content for Primary and Secondary Schools
KAWA has converted all the completed textbooks into ebooks with pictures and videos. These are installed in the school labs to be used offline. All resources for sciences and arts for PLE, UCE and UACE are ready for installation all the schools in the country as the recording continues. www.kawauganda.com
Career Guidance e-resouces by Learn with Grandma UK and KAWA KAWA has converted the publications of the Ministry of Education handbooks into digital format to make sure that every student; every parent;

Elearning Conference
Uganda Virtual teacher Programme
We have held two international post e-learning Africa conferences since 2014 at Trinity College Nabbingo and Makerere University Business School with full support and actual attendance of the Permanent Secretary Dr. Rose Nasali Lukwago, the Commissioners, DEOs and Headteachers all over the country. KAWA team members are facilitators at the major elearning Africa Conferences which have been held in Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya, Benin, Ghana, Nambia, Ethiopia and Uganda with excellent results. www.elearningfi
There is currently an acute shortage of quality science teachers in Uganda. A total of 13,000 sciences teachers are needed. 105 Schools do not have any physics teacher (Monitor, February 2, 2013). KAWA introduced a program few talented and where excellent teachers in the most powerful and best performing schools can share lessons with the disadvantaged schools using skype and other technologies.
