Back with stunning new stock to delight customers

Issue 31 • September, October, November 2013

The Gouzlan Group in Mt Eliza has recently recorded an increase in sales of the Cartouche pendants. These pendants spell the name of the owner in hieroglyphics and were very significant in Ancient Egypt. Every Egyptian Pharaoh and Queen had a Cartouche which spelt out their name in hieroglyphics. The Cartouche was designed as an oval shaped rope with a knot. It symbolized everything that the sun encircled and was an indication of the Pharaoh’s rule of the universe. It was believed by placing a name inside the oval rope the Cartouche empowered and protected the Pharaoh. Cartouches come in many different shapes and designs: solid, filigree, circular, inlaid with gemstones, as pendants, also in cufflinks, bracelets, rings and key rings. On September 21st my wife and I returned to Australia from a five week overseas business trip to Paris, Belgium, Milan, Egypt and Dubai. During that time Cheryl and I enjoyed a nice break, catching up with our family and friends, we also managed to secure a big order from all our suppliers which will delight and bring enjoyment to our valuable customers. New stock will be on display from September 28th. Pop in soon, as we would love to show off the beautiful new items. - Farid, Gouzlan Group

Village News What a strange world is that of small business. During the period of uncertainty in the build up to the election, small businesses across the state were suffering through the slowest trading period many had ever known. It was no different here in Mt Eliza, with almost all of our retailers and hospitality outlets suffering with slow turnover and customers unwilling to spend. However, at exactly the same time, the Village is seeing massive capital investment in business upgrades and new ventures. The redevelopment and extension at Ritchie’s Supermarket is a $5 million dollar project, not only doubling the size of the supermarket and increasing their product range, but is a top quality fit out with natural stone finishes and brand new energy efficient refrigeration units, lighting and cooling systems. The new store will be the flagship supermarket of the IGA group and should attract many people from other suburbs to shop here. At the same time we have seen two new eating establishments open, another restaurant under development, a new homewares / interiors shop, a new spa and several businesses with new owners. With the beautiful pear trees in bloom throughout the streetscape, it is a reminder that now is the season for new growth and optimism. I hope now that the public have a renewed confidence and begin to spend again. This amazing Village IS a real community. Familiar faces at every corner, business owners who know you by name, and don’t you love the Saturday street sausage sizzles and the monthly Farmers Market? Our Lions & Rotary clubs are active and committed to supporting the community, the Facebook “The Village Mt Eliza Magazine”

local Councillors continue to work closely with the Chamber of Commerce to ensure local infrastructure is maintained and enhanced while the ever watchful eyes of the Environmental Action Group ensure that all our native, green space is protected and replenished. Mt Eliza is blessed with an excellent variety of Council funded facilities, including the Seniors Club and Neighbourhood House, both of which have an energy all of their own and a healthy program of activities to keep mind and bodies active. At the other end of the spectrum we have the younger generation enjoying amazing educational facilities, with Toorak College moving forward in 2014 to celebrate it’s 140th year of schooling, making it one of the oldest schools in Victoria. This is quite an achievement… and all on our doorstep! Aren’t we fortunate? So if you love all these things about Mt Eliza, then remember the local businesses are the core of our community. Small independent businesses with local owners create local employment, which of course keeps our community vibrant. Support them - shop locally. It does matter. Gently does it

When you first experience the Lotus Chiropractic and Wellness Centre you will be struck by two things; one, how organically empowering the space is and two, how friendly and welcoming the staff are. This is a place where clients matter, where families are welcomed and people’s health is put first. ‘Chiropractic is the world’s largest non-surgical, drug free primary health care profession’ says Andrea the Practice Manager from Lotus. ‘It is a natural approach to health, based on the relationship between the spine and nervous system’; a healthy spine equals a healthy life.’ The practice at Lotus is for all generations, from newborns, toddlers and children, to parents and grand-parents. (The oldest client at Lotus is 96 years old and in fabulous health!) ‘Chiropractic care for your newborn is safe, gentle and very effective’ says Andrea. ‘There are many stresses related to birth. Having your baby’s spine and cranial system assessed by a Chiropractor can set them up for a more balanced and calm beginning to life.’ Pregnant women can also benefit from chiropractic care throughout gestation as the spine changes to accommodate the growing baby and alters each woman’s posture and alignment. The Lotus Chiropractors tailor techniques to suit each individual client and have post graduate training in paediatric and pregnancy care. They also take care of many athletes and sports people. Now is the time to visit Lotus as we emerge from the ‘hibernation’ period of winter. Prepare yourself for an active, more balanced spring/summer by treating yourself and your family to a healthier spine and nervous system. My body got back into the groove pretty quickly. In terms one and two I’ve been doing two yoga classes per week. For terms three and four, I’ll be doing three classes! My legs have changed shape, but the best thing is the relaxation. I have greater mental strength and can move more easily. I’m more positive, feel good and am capable. The Injury Update Is your neck or back causing you headaches? VSRC is well into its first year of operation. Since opening in December last year we have been busy treating patients from Mt Eliza and its surrounds. People have responded well to our integrated treatment approach of Osteopathy and Exercise Rehabilitation, which includes a range of gentle treatment techniques, such as trigger point therapy, manipulation, massage and preventative exercises. Since opening in December, we have been assisting people in particular who are experiencing neck and back pain.

To make an appointment call VSRC on 9787 7702 or visit vsrc.com.au today for more information

A number of people suffer from headaches and your neck may be a contributing factor. A large portion of headaches are classified as cervicogenic headaches. These types of headaches originate from the neck (cervical spine). This normally involves the upper 3 of your cervical vertebrae, but can stem from your mid back (thoracic spine). The Osteopathic treatment of cervicogenic headaches can be a very effective approach. An Osteopath will not only assess your neck, but your mid and upper back, take your blood pressure and ask you indepth questions regarding your headaches. This helps to rule out many of the other causes of headaches. If your Osteopath decides that manual treatment is not the right type of treatment they will refer you to your doctor.

Getting back to your lifestyle, shouldn’t be a stretch. We treat -Neck & Back pain -Headache & Migraines -Sport Injuries -Shoulder Pain -Sciatica -Arthritis

So how do you know if you may have a cervicogenic headache? • Gradual onset of the headache • Headache is a general dull ache • Normally at the back of the head but can also be behind the eyes, on the forehead and temple region • Pain and stiffness in your neck If you have any questions regarding how Osteopathy may help you, contact VSRC on 9787 7702. Dr Daniel Comerford is the primary practitioner at VSRC and has over 10 years experience working at an AFL level in Osteopathy, Sports Science and Rehabilitation.

what will be revealed this week?

‘Extra, extra – read all about it!’ Things are changing at the Ritchies Mt Eliza Centre and we at Mt Eliza Magazine thought you’d like to know what’s in store. The non-stop activity has all been due to the amazing refurbishment (and extension of) the Ritchies IGA Supermarket. Ritchies Marketing General Manager Jarrod Swaine explains. ‘The new store is increasing significantly in size, taking up the space that was the old liquor store plus three speciality shops. This large new area is dedicated not only to a checkout zone where you’ll find four self-serve, two express and four full service checkouts, but you will also find an extensive fresh food area full of new exciting offers . ‘Once completed, Mt Eliza Ritchies will be approximately 2000sqmtrs, Facebook “The Village Mt Eliza Magazine”

more than double the current sized store!’ Great thought and attention to detail (environmental solutions have been paramount) has gone into the design by TRG Architects. LED lighting has been installed throughout and solar harvesting is being used to reduce power usage. Ritchies’ commitment to eco and sustainable alternatives has also seen a Co2 plant being used for refrigeration usage reducing the amount of harmful gasses more commonly used in refrigeration. ‘Much of the work has been done overnight not to disrupt our customers’, says Jarrod. A new cheese bar with a massive selection of local and international cheeses, large fresh fish zone and sumptuous sushi range will be available along with slice on demand deli meats. cakes, artisan style breads and gourmet pies will be a major feature of the fresh food area with many lines baked on site. Also look out for the Dry Aged Beef case housing premium quality beef cuts plus the new Lenard’s Chicken department which will take the stress out of preparing the family meal. Gourmet lines and fresh cut flowers will be in bloom. ‘Additional jobs have been created with the refurbishment and once complete there will be a need for extra staff ’, continues Jarrod, proving that with Ritchies IGA, the community really does benefit. Simply Irresistible – the Groom Room leads the way

How pampered can your pooch be? How shiny can their coat glimmer? How much love and attention can the staff at The Groom Room aka Mt Eliza Pets and Dog Grooming give to your family member? Plenty says owner and animal lover Cindy Ballantyne. ‘We are passionate about animals here in The Groom Room. We focus on making all our clients comfortable and confident that their stay will be an enjoyable one’. There are seven staff members in this boutique ‘day spa’ for pets. There are no cages. Each client sits snuggly on a comfy bed waiting for their turn to have a do. There are some noisy ones, but all look relaxed and ready to freshen up. Cindy explains. ‘We have our regulars. Some get a blow dry after a double shampoo and flea rinse if need be. Nails, ears and teeth are cleaned.

Maybe a ‘style clip’ with a whiff of doggy perfume.’ (Her poodle gets her nails painted too!) When the styling is done, each pet returns to their bed with a treat to snack on until their owner returns. The average stay is up to three hours and you’ll need to book a week in advance through winter and a month ahead in summer. The Groom Room also offers a spectacular range of accessories from overseas and Australia. Colourful coats, beautiful bedding, bowls, toys and trinkets all combine to make this quaint and stylish pets paradise a must visit. You’d be barking mad not to. You deserve a pamper Pampering is the word many use to describe Beauty Therapy Clinics. At Mt. Eliza Beauty Therapy – Advanced Skin and Laser we aim to make your visit a relaxing one, but with some RESULTS DRIVEN skin care treatments, comes a little discomfort along the way. High tech advancements in skin procedures, including IPL Skin Rejuvenation, do deliver a little discomfort, we will not lie, but the new regenerated and transformed skin results are outstanding and last for years, leading the way for dermal roller (needling) and LED light treatments to enhance further your results, and every popular microdermabrasion. Of course many “light therapies” come with complete relaxation – including our LED Light Therapy Facial – which is best suited to a series of 5 or 6 treatments for outstanding results for general pigmentation and oil concerns. Oxygen facials are another modality to give your skin glow and a youthful radiance. Remember there are a number of paramedical procedures to

enhance your skin, but ask your therapist for the most advantageous for your requirements, skin, age etc. Not simply “the special”. You deserve results, a change in your appearance, and skin improvement in texture, colour and vascular damage. If you are 35 and do not have any major concern, be advised on the correct procedure for you – not an upsell – you do not require. RESULTS are about requiring a certain treatment programme to minimize your agerelated, hormonal or sun related changes to your skin. Clogged and oily skins – major concern – yes results are available to you – this is not a pampering treatment - RESULTS DRIVEN. Mt Eliza Beauty Therapy – Advanced Skin and Laser is a serious Skin Clinic delivering to our clients the latest and most effective skin care and procedures available, continuing to deliver RESULTS not promises. Your skin does not stand still and neither should you – phone 9787 7475 for an appointment.

ROTARY CLUB OF MT ELIZA HOSTS FEAST & FAMILY DAY A popular children’s TV character will be doing even more star gazing than normal when she visits the Morning Star Estate for a weekend fundraising event. The winery is the venue for Mt Eliza’s FEAST & FAMILY FIELD DAY, over the weekend of October 5 and 6, when ABCs dirtgirl will be on hand to meet and greet the youngsters. Visitors will be delighted to hear how dirtgirl encourages children to explore and discover the joys of “getting grubby in the garden”. The event plans to be a gastronomic delight with a focus on fabulous food and wine, with a horticultural twist and more than 70 stallholders from Victoria and the Mornington Peninsula will settle among the winery’s beautiful grounds that will form the perfect backdrop to display their goods. There will also be wine tastings, boutique beers and

ciders and gourmet delights to sample and buy. With food, cooking demonstrations and vintage cars on view, the event with its agricultural slant, will feature fields dotted with unique garden plants and products from specialty nurseries, with everything from a worm farm to wrought iron artwork for gardens. There will even be wood chippers and ride-on lawnmowers – everything you would expect at a field day and more! Roving musicians will entertain the crowds throughout the day, giving the chance to amble through the Morning Star Gardens, at no extra cost. And there’s plenty more for the children too – they can have a cuddle off the baby animals

at the animal farm and get the chance to see real farm animals up close. They can have their faces painted, laugh at Mojo the Clown, take part in craft activities, enter the coloring competition for a chance to win a prize or have a photograph taken in the CFA of Mt Eliza’s fire truck! The Rotary Club of Mt Eliza hopes this all-weather Feast and Family Field Day will become an annual event to raise money to put back into the community and to also help support their international projects. Entry will cost $20 for adults, $15 concession and children under 16 are free at the gate. If you buy in advance online, tickets are $17 adult and $15 concession. Visit the website at www. feastandfamilyfieldday.com.au for further information.

Mount Eliza’s annual art exhibition returns this year on October 25th to 27th. Hosted by Mount Eliza North Primary School, the exhibition provides visitors with a unique opportunity to discover and purchase original and affordable paintings, jewellery, photography, textiles, sculpture and ceramics in a relaxed, community based setting. The feature artist, Veronica Holland, lives and works in Christmas Hills. Her large and colourful paintings can be dynamic or gently whimsical, but generally bring a smile to the observer. Describing her work as “art to live with”, Veronica’s cheerful paintings are often based on things that are a source of personal amusement. “I mainly paint people being people.” Holland has also been working on a series inspired by music. “I like the energy and passion in music, and the stories behind the performance. I try to make you see the music,” she explains. Limited to 500 guests, the gala opening on Friday, October 25th

at 7:30pm will offer guests the first opportunity to purchase works as well as being able to bid at auction on unique items including paintings and jewellery. Tickets for an evening of live music, gourmet finger food and exceptional wines are $25 and permit unlimited re-entry throughout the weekend. The weekend times are Saturday October 26th from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday October 27th from 10 am to 4 pm. Adult entry on the weekend is $5 and children accompanying adults are free. Tickets are available from the school or www.trybooking.com. A strategy of success REFINED ELEGANCE AT MILLS BEACH Boutique real estate agent, McEwing Partners continue to secure upmarket properties with the latest acquisition one of Mornington’s most striking beachfront mansions, Combe Martin. This remarkable five bedroom, four bathroom residence set on approximately half an acre of manicured grounds, overlooks Mills Beach and exudes the architectural expression of a genteel old world era. Specifically designed to symbolise the refined elegance of English workmanship, Combe Martin boasts 70 squares of luxury living, exquisite glass, marble and wood finishes throughout, a Bespoke modern kitchen and bathrooms. Rich in history, the property was built over a three year period from 1936-1939 for Mrs Emily Ruwolt whose husband Charles established the large Vickers Ruwolt Engineering business in Richmond. Even the stained glass window in the stairwell depicts Charles as a young man working with his business in the foundry. Named after a seaside village

hamlet in North Devon, Combe Martin is an old English tudor style clinker brick and shingle tiled house with classically themed gardens and landscaping of exquisite detail. A series of grand formal rooms with towering ceilings, French doors, mahogany timber panelling and panoramic views of the bay through the double glazed windows encapsulate a bygone era, while a separate temperature controlled wine store and gymnasium utilise 21st century conveniences. Only a pleasant stroll to the cafes and restaurants of Main Street, the magnificent residence also includes a powder room, housekeeper’s key room with more than 100 keys for all the various doors and cabinets throughout the home, ducted heating, a security system, and two double garages in the Esplanade’s very best address. Inspection is purely by appointment through McEwing Partners on 5975 4555 or phone Dean Phillips on 0402 833 865. www.mcewingpartners.com

McEwing Partners has been long established as a prestige real estate brand, serving the Mornington peninsula for over three generations. Directors Dean Phillips, Quentin McEwing and Brett McEwing all share the same important values that have earned McEwing partners the reputation as Mornington Peninsula’s premier property agency. Our strategic focus is on premium property, high quality service and advanced marketing strategies. With a reputation like ours it is no – wonder that a high percentage of our business is referral based. Much of our recent success has been largely due to our extensive buyer database, both nationally and internationally. We currently have buyers looking to spend anywhere from $1 million to $10 million in the coastal area. Quietsell is a database matching sales system McEwing Partners have been successfully using for many years. We have clients whom are quietly on the market without any internet, board or marketing that will sell if the price is right. The most recent being a $4 million cliff front property in Mornington. In 2011 the decision to expand to a second office located in Mt Eliza gave us the opportunity to add a Property Management division. Headed up by one of the Peninsulas most experienced property management teams we have strategies in place that will minimise vacancy and maximise return. Our sales team are all highly trained and highly skilled negotiators. Closely working together with our marketing department they custom design from the ground up individual marketing campaigns that will best suit your property. Whether it be Private Sale, Auction or Expressions of Interest each campaign will provide you with maximum exposure resulting in the highest possible price. Licensed Estate Agents and Directors, Quentin McEwing and Dean Phillips are hands on in the day to day running of McEwing Partners. “Our success strategy is simple. Be first to open in the morning, be last to close in the evening, and follow every possible lead”. If you are considering selling or renting we encourage you to contact either one of our offices in Mornington or Mount Eliza.

How to learn about foreign culture and thereby perhaps change your future plans Learning about cultural differences can actually bring people closer together, and Southern Cross Cultural Exchange has long been a robust proponent of intercultural exchange between exchange students and host families from across different cultures. Founded in 1983, S.C.C.E’s pioneering status as Australia’s first international exchange organisations has ensured that programs offered by the Mt Eliza based not-for-profit organisation operates to stringent requirements nation-wide and world-wide. To date S.C.C.E has exchanged some 17,000 students to 20 countries. S.C.C.E. would like to thank our many volunteer local Mt Eliza families who have discovered hosting an international student is like bringing Europe or the U.S.A., into their home. New families are encouraged to call 9775 4711 to enquire about hosting a student arriving next February.

ADVANTAGE MEDICAL CENTRE ON NEPEAN HIGHWAY Affordable health care is now available in Mt Eliza with the opening of the Advantage Medical Centre in June this year. Advantage Medical Centre is the fifth project for Dr Manish Bhasin in as many years, offering patients on the Mornington Peninsula bulk billing medical and affordable dental care. Other Advantage Medical Centres include Crib Point, Tooradin, Baxter, and Rosebud. As one of the practicing doctors, Dr Bhasin says they all have special interests in different streams of medicine. “Dr Brian West specializes in pain management, while Dr Dipankar

Chakraborty’s special interest is obstetrics and gynecology. We also have ex paediatrician, Dr Jitendra Kumar here for child health care.” Dr Bhasin, whose specialty is diabetic care, says it is most important to meet the need of the area in terms of affordable and ongoing care for all sections of society. “There was no bulk-billing in the area and we bulk-bill everybody. If you empower the patient, with education, it provides better outcomes for their health, so we make sure we spend that extra time explaining as well as diagnosing,” Dr Bhasin said. “We have had very good response already. Patients are grateful and thankful we have opened here especially pensioners and

young working class. We are taking on new patients, so just ring up to make an appointment.” Advantage Medical Centres are also actively involved in teaching and training new doctors. “We get new doctors from Melbourne University, medical students, and get GP training doctors as well, so part of my other job is training.” After working in England for many years, Dr Bhasin came to the peninsula, loved it and has never looked back. Advantage Medical Centre is at 1297 Nepean Highway, Mt Eliza. Open Monday to Friday, 8am till 6pm. Phone 9787 3036.

WE’RE HERE FOR YOU We bulk bill in order to provide excellent professional and affordable health care to all sections of community.

The conference, which will bring together 55 young leaders from eight schools across Australia, will explore the city, coast and country in a week of activities aimed to increase personal development and responsibility. We have developed the conference around the ideals of Round Square; Internationalism, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership and Service. The Round Square community is an international network of like-minded schools that have made a commitment to uphold these values. Our theme, Second Chance for Change, is intended to remind all delegates that even when things don’t work out - or we get it wrong - there is always another chance to make a difference and to create change. It is also a hint to the fact that we all have the power to create social and environmental change. The conference participants will get to hear and experience change on both a grand and humble scale. For examples of big-picture change, they will hear inspiring stories from conservation warrior Sean Wilmore of The Thin Green Line Foundation and ultra-marathon runner Tristan Miller. They will also be involved in a presentation by Project RockIT; an anti-bullying and youth leadership program run by young people for young people. To experience smaller-scale change, the delegates will be involved in a variety of activities where they themselves can make a difference. These include tree planting, working with recycled materials and creating toys for the local Hospital’s children’s ward. We will be coordinating this weeklong event alongside Billanook College from Saturday 14 September until Friday 20 September. For more information about the conference, please head to our website: www.woodleigh.vic.edu.au

The first Primrose Fair is almost upon us, so Mornington Peninsula Magazine caught up with Lara Tweedie and Marlee Horobin to find out how this new and exciting designer market is coming together. “We are so excited to hold the first Primrose Fair on 5 October” says Lara Tweedie. “We have been truly overwhelmed by the level of interest we have had from the local community. The quality of stallholder applications has been first class and it has been incredibly inspiring to engage with so many talented and hardworking designers. It’s just amazing to have the opportunity to meet other women who have the vision, the inherent sense of style and the will to bring a label to life. We are showcasing many of these designers on the Primrose Fair Facebook page and we are running some great competitions in the lead up to the

event, so it is definitely worth checking out! We feel very honoured that so many great people want to be a part of Primrose Fair.” “One of the best parts about bringing Primrose Fair to life has been collaborating with other local businesses who bring their own unique perspective and talents to the event” says Marlee Horobin. “ We have had an absolute ball working with Corey Fowler from Grazen Café on a coffee and food concept for Primrose Fair. One of the things we

have really appreciated is the thought that he has put into developing a menu that will translate seamlessly into a market setting. From the stallholders to the food, everything is coming together beautifully and we are looking forward to creating something really wonderful for the community”. The first Primrose Fair will take place at The Cloisters, Toorak College, Mt Eliza on 5th October 2013 between 10am and 4pm. Entry is free. Visit www. primrosefair.com.au for more details.

fashionable randomness One of Mt Eliza’s great mates, Rob Licciardo is glowing with health and pride as he marks the first year at his new home, The Gallery Bar & Grill at Manyung. You will occasionally see Rob’s partners Peter Schreiner and Sam Pavic assisting but they pretty much remain in the background and leave Rob to do his thing. Simply stylish and certainly delish, Rob has daubed a dollop of ‘London air’ onto what was formerly best known as ‘one of the boyz’, turning the tables on that format, like a sea breeze carrying away a hot day. The Gallery oozes influence from Rob’s two years at the swank Westminster eatery Pied de Terre, considered to have the best Michelin Star lunch in London. His OS adventure also included joining an alliance with the winners of UK reality show The Restaurant to launch a top-end venue called The London Cocktail Club where he worked with celebrity cohort Raymond Blanc. “I’ve worked on the latest, contemporary edge of that cuisine and I’ve brought it here. We’re a leading, edgy, wine and cocktail bar within the incredible atmosphere of Manyung gallery,” Rob continues. “The main difference with the food here is that it has a bit more of a relaxed, fun feel. Our style is ‘bistro moderne’, the ingredients are a real mix of everything,” he said. With a nod to a fashionable randomness regarding what might be expected on the menu. “We also show that contemporary food does not have to be expensive,” Rob added. Rob has formerly fused French, Italian, Asian and now also Moroccan spice blends into venue favourites. Currently, think North African yin and yang – preserved lemon/ Facebook “The Village Mt Eliza Magazine”

cinnamon/nutmeg and saffron. A popular main, the crispy pork belly with black pudding, firstly sees the meat braised for two hours in stock and then salted and baked to crisp the skin and create crackling. To accompany, an apple puree blended with nutty butter is flung into an arc on the plate. “It’s flinging the flavours through the dish, a bit like artist Jackson Pollock,” Rob said. To create the sauce, veal jus is reduced overnight and mated with the sweetness of the apple. A length of black pudding fried in clarified butter completes the plate. The Morrocan-tajine dish features spiced lamb meatballs braised in a tomato broth laced with house-ground Middle Eastern spices. Pinenuts, dates, cubes of roast vegies and couscous are all co-simmered in the tajine’s swirl of taste. “I’ve always gone for flavour and I understand why different flavours are used.” A philosophy espoused on the relaxed tapas menu. The Gallery Bar & Grill has plenty of parking and welcomes functions in a choice of two rooms, seating 30 and 100. It is a popular place for parties and function with a range of options from casual cocktail style to formal seated arrangements. Perfect for end of year break-up parties, weddings or just about any occasion. For the social set, with warmer weather on its way, the courtyard with its splendid 100+ year old oak tree is a favourite place for cocktails. Take-away is also offered as a service to customers. Lunch and dinner is served from Wed to Sunday with breakfast on weekends at 1408 Nepean Hwy, Mt Eliza. Call: 9787 2001.

Abracadabra - It’s 1001 Nights A fresh shot of spice has arrived in Mt Eliza offering Middle Eastern dining with a modern twist. Harking to the heritage of the mysterious Arabian world, inspired by Ali Baba and abracadabra, 1001 Nights Middle Eastern restaurant adds a magical touch to every dish. A labour of love, following years of yearning, for proprietors Mark and Nina Syawish; their new eatery adds a dash of splendid style to their home-town. But beyond the swish style lies a basis of fine food, from a kitchen with gleaming new

roasting spits and a smooth clay tandoori. The menu offers more than a dozen breakfast choices, including Babylonian Benedict – grilled sujuk sausage, poached free-range eggs, spinach and hollandaise. 1001 Night’s lunch menu includes salmon, swordfish and quinoa salad. Tajine dishes include lamb with peas and chicken with apricots. Persian influence abounds. Baba ganush, hummus and roasted red pepper make up a trio of dips served with flat bread. The Shawarma, the vertically spinning spit of mixed meats, has shavings cut from the block to make their way to falafels and kebabs. Saffron, cumin, cardamom, turmeric and sumac are just some of the liberally lashed spices. The Istanbuli kebab matches seasoned ground lamb with tomato, chilli and garlic salsa. “With our modern Middle Eastern cuisine, the way that the meats are combined, spiced and flavoured creates special tastes,

unique,” said Mark. “I’m a fussy person and I have been making this style of food for so long that getting it ‘right’ is like an instinct. It’s in my blood.” 1001 Nights is at Shop 3, 86 Mt Eliza Way, Mt Eliza. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Phone 9787 5565.

WE’VE GOT IT COVERED “We also provide additional cleans such as ovens, windows, and even cupboard clean-outs,” Marlon says. “It is important to have a spring clean every six months and we understand that after you’ve worked a full week the last thing you want to do is start all over again at home. We bring our dedicated team to you and their tri colour system has all the bases sorted. We break the house up into three different areas – red, blue and green. We use red cloths in wet areas, blue cloths in the bedrooms and living areas, and green cloths in the kitchen and laundry. We promise a critical point system from ceiling to floor and work in a circulation motion. This covers all of the

important items in the room, while the colour coding reduces the risk of cross contamination. Our team members are fully trained and have an appointed supervisor because we understand how important your home is to you.” MyHome will come to your property or home to assess your requirements and give you an obligation free quote. A leader in their field, within a week MyHome Cleaning will transform your home so you can breathe easy. Call My Home for a free estimate on 1300 334 663 or go to www. myhomecleaning.com.au
