The Aware Self The Descriptive Self

We’ll begin the program by understanding and exploring your challenge space, which you’ll choose as part of your pre-work. We’ll also be unpacking the concepts of service design and systems thinking that will help give you a more holistic view of how to deliver value to customers.

We’ll cover:

• The nature of sense-making and experience

• The effects of sense-making in organisations

• How experience is the sum of observing, thinking, feeling and wanting

• The positive effects of clear language, and negative effects of mystifying language

• The impact of talking to others in the “here and now” versus the “there and then”.

You’ll learn how to:

• Distinguish between observing, thinking, feeling and wanting

• Distinguish between clear and mystifying language

• Distinguish between “here and now” and “there and then”.

This week our goal is to provide you the skills to make your experience and sense-making clear to others –in a way that’s not threatening to others and enhances your relationships.

We’ll cover:

• Transparent versus personal

• Descriptive versus judgmental

• Making statements before asking questions

• A technique of describing the impact before responding

• Part one of organisational learning conversations.

The Appreciative and Curious Selves Conflict and Learning in Partnerships

This week is all about getting others on board. Our goal is to provide you with the skills to inspire people to be descriptive – to fully understand their experience and avoid the kinds of reactions that stop them from telling you their truth.

We’ll cover:

• Three levels of listening

• Issues around reactivity

• The role of shame in reducing interpersonal clarity

• Confusing the past with the present

• Getting others to be descriptive

• Part two of organisational learning conversations.

You’ll learn how to:

• Listen at three levels

• Identify where your reactivity comes from – and where to park it

• Identify when shame is reducing interpersonal clarity

• Distinguish between the past and present

• Confront others in a way that gets them to be descriptive.

This week is about cementing your understanding of – and ability to – lead organisational learning conversations. We’ll also show you how to use these skills to reduce unproductive conflict in your partnerships out in the workplace.

We’ll cover:

• The entire organisational learning conversation process

• Reducing conflict and mush in organisations

• Going further with your appreciative self

• Having purpose conversations with your partners.

You’ll learn how to:

• Use the organisational learning conversation process
