Project Grad

TREVOR LETTERMAN INTERVIEW: What is it like volunteering? It allows me to get involved in the community while also raising money for our seniors. What are you most excited for in this year’s project graduation? I am most excited for our class to be united by the activities provided by project graduation. This organization will allow the members of our class to learn more about our community and each other by participating in these events. How was your experience volunteering? My experiences volunteering were good. They were all filled with seeing people from our schools among other schools for sporting events.

By: Hunter Raymond

Project Graduation is still working hard to raise money. With events like the Chili cook off and the tea being sold at the sporting events the Project Graduation team continues to work hard. By the end of October project grad is well on its way to producing a great night for the seniors and will continue to push forward in raising as much money for the seniors as possible. Project Graduation will always be looking for volunteers that are willing to help raise money at sporting events, or any fundraiser put on by the Project Grad team. There was no meeting for the month of September and there was no public meeting for October.

Project Graduation is more than just raising money for prizes at the end of the year, its about working and volunteering without worrying what you get in return. Its about creating a fun environment for the seniors and creating a long lasting memory with your friends in your last year. Project Graduation not only creates a place where you can volunteer, but it creates a place where you can make new friends and create more memories. If you want to get involved you can contact the President John Morris at his email or the vice president and committee President:Johnboy2b@hotmail.com Vice President: michellenordin@gmail.com Committee: 2018wolfpack@gmail.com

Project Graduation is still raising a large amount of money. The team has raised a grand total of $31,658 since its beginnings in June. The more seniors that come out, the more money we can raise to make something special. What does this mean to me as a senior? This is a great thing to you as a senior. Not only is Project Graduation working hard for all of the seniors to receive something at the end of the year, they are also making the celebration that night even more fun and a great place to have a good time with your friends before moving on to work or college or any other pursuits people may follow in life. Project Graduation isn’t just about getting things at the end of the year, but it’s about creating a lasting memory for your senior year.

Academic Team

By: Hunter Raymond With practices underway the Reeds Spring Academic Team preps for its first meet on October 26th. The Academic Team will be looking to make a statement early with an overall victory in the first meet. The team seems to be shaping up nicely with returning players Justin Bible and Calvin Rasmussen who received medals for points scored in districts and the rest of the district team except for one graduated senior. The team also has a couple new additions with freshman Sam Perez and sophomore Justin Yano. We asked some of the returning people what they are most looking forward to in being back this season. I went out and interviewed a senior that has been on the team since coming up to High school and even participated in some of the quiz bowl events during his middle school years. CALVIN RASMUSSEN INTERVIEW: How does it feel to be back in Season? I am very excited and proud to be a part of a district winning team. What do you expect from your teammates and from the JV this year? For them to work hard and have fun while winning. “Hopefully” Do you have a favorite or specialty subject? I specialize in math and mythology

As a senior who has volunteered I can say that it makes you feel more excited for the event, but it also gives you a sense of pride in being a senior. It also gets you around more people and helps you be more comfortable around people you may not know as well. It also introduces you to new people and also gives you some insight into the work a fundraiser really takes.

What are your thoughts on the JV They are fun and enjoyable and they are an “interesting” bunch

Academic team establishes a connection between peers. Academic is not a solo game, but rather a team game where you must play to your team’s strengths. Where you may be weak in one subject, your teammate may be amazingly talented at that subject. Being part of academic also teaches you many new things. All the questions and new things you learn at tournaments help increase your academic flexibility. I started participating in Academic Team my sophomore year and I immediately discovered how much fun it was to travel around Missouri and how great it was to be part of a team. It may not be for everyone and I can only speak on my own behalf here, but I truly believe that Academic Team is a welcoming environment. You don’t have to be a genius to be part of the team, you just have to get out there and give it your best effort. The team will not judge you for getting the wrong answer and will help you better yourself after. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact coach Scego at his email Contact email: tscego@wolves.k12.mo.us. Also the schedule for Academic Team will be included here: 2017-18 Tentative Scholar Bowl Tournament Schedule 10/26/17-Republic Halloween Tourney (Costume & Deliciousness) 11/16/17- Buffalo Tourney 12/7/17-Branson Tourney 1/11/18-Webb City Tourney 2/1/18-Carthage Tourney 2/15/18-Nixa Tourney 2/22/18-Logan/Rogersville Paper Tourney 3/1/18- Reeds Spring 3/22/18-Branson 9th/10th Tourney 4/5/18—COC—Small @ Buffalo ****still waiting on the official date for districts****

I also interviewed Zane Henry, a member of the junior varsity team who is looking to step up his game in his second year in the High school club. ZANE HENRY INTERVIEW: What are you most looking forward to this season? Winning. Getting more than fifteen questions in a single match. I look forward to being with the team. What is your favorite thing about academic team? How it challenges me to become a better learner. Do you have fun travelling for the meets? I enjoy travelling in the back of the bus. What do you expect out of yourself and the team this year? State. We want to win state. Do you have a favorite/ specialty subject? I am great at sports.

I talked Senior Trevor Letterman who has volunteered this year selling tea at the Football games.

The Truth

The Murder

Let’s be honest, high school isn’t all that it seems to be. When you’re younger you see all the older kids and dream about being as cool as them one day. The truth? You will always do that; there will always be someone cooler than you. As seniors, we are craving leaving for college, going to all the parties, having more freedoms, and maybe even dating the cutest frat boy. Then college kids see adults who seem to have their life together and they can’t wait to start theirs. We see them going about their life with so much independence and working what seems to be their dream job, and we crave that. Adults will see people older than them who are retired and living what seems to be the dream life. We all crave to have the perfect life. The point is everyone is going to fantasize about being someone or something different. My advice? Don’t focus on being what everyone wants you to be. Be yourself and have fun, fun is the most important part of high school. Well, aside from the school work ;). Do things you want to do and do it without worrying if people are going to like it. You won’t always do things that people agree with but own it. While doing this you’re going to learn who your real friends are. The truth? About 95% of the people you’re going to meet will be fake. They are going to say one thing to your face and another behind your back. My advice? Don’t take that, don’t let people walk all over you. Stand up for yourself and for what you believe in. Find people who are going to stand up for you when people say things behind your back. Seek out Godly people and let them help you transform into who you’re supposed be. Find friends who are going to build you up, and not build you down. Who help you achieve your goals instead of telling you, you can’t do anything. Find people who love doing the things you do and never complain if they don’t. Find true friends. What I have learned is even the smallest people make the greatest impact on your life. It’s crazy how much a person can affect you, but you have to be the one to decide if it’s going to be in a positive or negative way.

JonBenét Ramsey. A 6 year old beauty queen found strangled in the basement of her family home in Boulder, Colorado on the morning of December 26, 1996.

The truth? Even adults have issues with relationships or with friendships; everyone is going to find this hard. They will go through hardships in life, and feel just like you do as a kid, lost and alone. My advice? Quit looking towards people for answers and look toward yourself that is where you will find the best answer. Trust your instinct and know that even if you make a mistake its part of being human. Realize that you aren’t alone and everyone goes through bad times in life. Once you find yourself you will excel in life, and I for one am so excited for you!

John Ramsey was quick to pick up his daughter and carry her up the stairs, covering her body with a blanket. This was another mistake. The body of JonBenét now had not only her father’s DNA, but any DNA picked up from the blanket used to cover her. This just further confused the investigators, and added to the evidence that one of the Ramsey’s committed the horrific crime.

By: Alyssa Heard The greatest part about putting all of your hard work

into marching band has to be the thrill of competing. The weekend of October 7 was the Wolf Pride marching band’s first competition. I got the joy of tagging along. I know from past years of being in band that the first competition is usually the worst because they only have half the show on the field but this year is a whole new experience for them they are putting their ENTIRE show on the field this weekend which has never happened before. We will surely miss not having Devos there for our first competition of the season but we know that we are in good hands with Mr. Garoutte. “We are all so excited to see what this season has for us.” Brittany Gamblin told me. I believe that Mr. Garoutte will do exactly what Devos planned for him to do with the band to make them greater than they already were. I know that this new season with a new director will be a great experience for the band and I hope that they will do great. OMMF is our ultimate biggest competition for the band because we host it. All of the band students have to arrive at the high school Saturday morning at 5 but the problem is we don’t go home till around 12 in the morning. This weekend (October 14) is the biggest weekend for the band it is stressful to set up but fantastic to be a part of. I get the chance to still be a part of the band even though my injury made me quit, so I have had the chance to experience the thrill of Ozark Mountain Marching Festival for the past four years (My brother Tyler and my sister Brielle were in band so I was counting 7th and 8th grade). This year’s OMMF will be different though because it is our ten year anniversary since we started this festival. So if you had the chance to come out and see it you’re very lucky.

trace of an intruder, narrowing in on the Ramsey family. For years following the crime, the Ramsey’s held the blame despite some suspicious suspects.

By: Sam Godfrey

Gary Olivia A random hiker, by the name of Gary Olivia, with a background of child-related crimes, was found carrying a picture of JonBenét Ramsey in his backpack. When asked about it, he just claimed that the case of JonBenét intrigued him. It was also rumored that Gary had called a friend the night of the murder saying “I hurt a little girl. I hurt a little girl.” Investigators found this man, although very creepy, completely innocent. John Mark Karr

JonBenét’s mother (and future suspect of the crime), Patsy Ramsey walked down the stairs the morning of December 26th to find a three page ransom note. The note written to John Ramsey (the father, and also a future suspect of the crime) stated that unless they pay a large sum of money, their daughter JonBenét would not be returned to them safely. The suspicious thing about this ransom note is that it was written on stationary from the Ramsey household and demanded exactly $118,000 (the exact amount of money that John Ramsey had received as a work bonus that year.) The only people who knew the exact amount of the bonus would have been John, Patsy, or someone very close to the family. Those cryptic clues, lead investigators to believe that the ransom note was an attempted way to disguise what actually went down at the Ramsey house.

Nearly 10 years after the murder John Mark Karr, a teacher living in Thailand confessed, and turned himself in as the murderer of JonBenét Ramsey. He claimed that it was an accident resulting from a bizarre sexual encounter, and even made claims of drugging his victim. The even more chilling facts about this story are that John Mark Karr was lying about it all. DNA tests proved that he was nowhere near the crime scene, and drugs were never found in JonBenét’s system. Detectives even found security camera footage that proved John Mark Karr was in Georgia the time of the murder. So again, even though this man was really creepy, he was also really innocent.

What comes next is claimed to be the Boulder Police departments most ‘unforgivable error’. They never closed off the house after the crime was called in. They allowed for friends, family, and neighbors to stream in and out of the house the following day, disrupting the crime scene. This corrupted any piece of evidence they could have possibly found, and every lead they had led to a dead end.

Ollie GrayA local electrician whose foot print lined up with a random imprint they found. However the shoe print was not leading to the house, and was not enough evidence to convict him. In 1997, it’s said that Ollie caught wind that the investigators were on to him and committed suicide two days later. Both the lack of evidence and death take Ollie Gray out of cross fire.

Later that evening, in the basement of their Colorado home, John Ramsey was asked to search the house for any clues (which is very strange, because that sounds like an investigators job… not a suspects.) In an interview with 20/20 John Ramsey describes what he found… “I saw her lying on the floor with a white blanket, her hands were tied above her head, there was tape over mouth, and her eyes were closed.” John Ramsey had discovered the body of his 6 year old daughter, JonBenét Ramsey.

Bill McReynolds McReynolds was the town Santa Claus. Although a creepy old man who dresses up as Santa, and hangs out with kids all day is a great case against a child murder, there was never really any evidence. McReynolds was rumored to have paid a little bit too much attention to JonBenét Ramsey, making secret arrangements with the six-year-old. He went as far as taking a tiny tube of glitter JonBenét had given him into surgery with him, and told his wife “when I die, mix her glitter in with my ashes.” All suspects are mysteriously creepy, but none of them have ever been proven guilty. The mistakes of the Boulder Police Department that horrific night have caused a decade of confusion. Still the question remains; who actually murdered JonBenét Ramsey and what occurred the Christmas of 1996?

There was never a definite answer to who murdered JonBenét Ramsey. Investigators found that the house seemed to have no

Their hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 8:30 PM. Friday and Saturday are from 11 AM to the last customer. Their buffet hours are 11 AM to 1:30 PM. Make sure you consider Pizza by the Chef in Branson West for your next family dinner!

By: Conner Wiest There is a restaurant hidden in Branson West that

only the locals know about. Sitting across from Hardee’s on Highway 13, is El Lago. El Lago is a Mexican restaurant with an authentic Mexican menu. On Google, the restaurant is rated 4.5 stars out of 5! That’s very impressive for a somewhat new local restaurant. One of the most debated topics in Reeds Spring High School is whether to eat at Tequila’s or El Lago. A recent interview took place on whether or not Tequila’s was better than El Lago, and the majority of Reeds Spring High School students said that they prefer El Lago over Tequila’s. Their reasoning was that the food was better, and the price was significantly lower. El Lago is a #1 high school student attractor because of the price. If you have any questions about reservations, you can pick up their phone number off of their website, or you can go there in person and schedule right there. A recent change to El Lago would be the fact that they are now doing reservations for birthday parties as well as business meetings and other special events. You can also visit them on social media via Facebook! On their Facebook, they post new menu items, as well as take feedback from their customers. They received 4.7 stars out of 5 on social media. They were ranked on the quality of their food as well as the friendliness of their staff. Just about every single review talked about how friendly the staff was. As far as hours go, they are open from 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and they are open 11 AM to 10 PM Friday and Saturday. You all should definitely stop by sometime and try out El Lago in Branson West! Another favorite restaurant that is underrated would be Pizza by the Chef in Branson West. It sits right next to Tequila’s in Claybough Plaza. On Google, the restaurant is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars. With its main menu item being “traditional brick-oven pizza,” it is an extremely popular location for pizza lovers. If pizza isn’t really your food of choice, don’t worry! They have pastas, fresh garden salads, and even sub sandwiches! If you’re not in the mood for a sit-down dinner, then take one of their uncooked pizzas home with you. On their website, they explain

SEASONAL

Candy Apple Ghost and Pumpkins By: Kayla Buckner My favorite snack is an apple and my favorite holiday is Halloween, so for this Halloween I decided to mix the two together and create something not only easy to make but fun to make as well! The things you’ll need are: • Apples, I choose golden delicious green apples because honestly, I like green apples the best. They kind of have a sour taste which puts it more in the Halloween mood • Wilton’s Candy Melts o one twelve onus bag of White o One twelve one bag of orange • Wilton’s black decorating icing o I found that the nine onus pipping bag works best when needing to draw things with icing • Wilton’s tube of green writing gel • Twelve pack of Wilton’s treat sticks o I choose the ones that look like twigs to give the apples a more Halloween look First, you will need to melt the white candy melts and orange candy melts each for one minute and thirty seconds in the microwave in their own separate bowls. I found that using candy melts are a lot easier to work with then it is with regular chocolate and a double boiler. While the candy melts are in the microwave use that time to take all the stem’s off the top of the apples and stick the treat sticks through the top of the apples. Next, once the candy melts have melted completely take an apple and slowly start rotating in the melted candy melts and place on a cooking sheet, plate, or anything of your choice. Repeat this process until you have six apples covered in white and six apples covered in orange. Then, give the apples a few minutes to dry completely. Once they are dry take the black decorating icing and draw two vertical oval shape side by side and underneath and kind of in the middle of them draw a small circle on to the apples covered in white to make a ghost face, and on the apples covered in orange on the draw two small triangles side by side, a smaller triangle just a little beneath those, and draw a mouth to give it a pumpkin shaped face. Once the face is made on the pumpkin take the green drawing gel and draw leaves on the top on the apple. Finally, allow the icing to dry and enjoy! I really recommend making these whether it’s just for fun or a snack at a party these are perfect!

An Affordable Fall Make-Up Plan

by: Faith Dejager

Although it seemed like fall would never come, the temperature is finally starting to drop. It’s time for the transition from tank tops, shorts, and skirts to sweaters, jeans, and cardigans. The styles have changed slightly from last year, and even though it may be style doesn’t mean that everyone wears it. Most things that I included in this article aren’t necessarily runway; it’s what the kids in our area consider the style that’s in. Sweaters always have been and always will be the go to fall top, but this year the most popular sweater is one that features holes in the shoulders, although it’s not too practical for keeping warm, it makes for a nice autumn fashion look. For the bottoms, the style is any wash of jean you prefer but instead of the plain holes, they have multiple ripped holes on the back of the ankles and a frayed look on the bottom. Now that’s just for the younger millennial girls, I suppose we should include men’s style. It’s a little difficult for me to describe the looks guys are wearing because I’m a girl, so I asked a couple of boys what they thought the styles were last year and are currently. They described loosely that last year was when joggers were the main style, a type of sweat pant that cinches at the bottom. They told me that a button up shirt would pair nicely and Nike SB’s would go on the feet. An accessory, because guys don’t really do that sort of thing, is just a Nike ball cap. Now I personally don’t really like this look, but it’s what I put together by what the guys told me and inputted. We are now in the season of fall and everything we wear is becoming comfy and warm, so it was easier for them to describe the type of clothes they are wearing currently. The bottoms are a nicer version of joggers, called chinos. To pair with them, they chose a light flannel, not too heavy so that they can wear a jacket if it gets too cold. I’ve noticed that bomber jackets are coming into style so that would go overtop the flannel and pair very nicely with the light flannel, then cork shoes. You can’t forget about the ice on your wrist to really finish off the look. Of course fashion is something that can help define you. You should never just jump on a bandwagon that you are not into. I know how easy it is to conform to the norm and not completely be yourself; whether that is how you act or the clothes you wear on your body. These are fun popular suggestions for you to try, but in the end you should always be yourself and dress how you feel comfortable. For me personally, I really enjoy putting different items together to make an outfit that matches how I feel or how I want to portray myself to the world around me. Enjoy the cool weather and the fashion this fall season.

Apply the base color from the eyeshadow pallet to your whole eyelid and then the gold color to the inner half of your lid. Add the purple to the outer half blending it up and into your crease. Blend them together and then dap some more gold to the center of your lid. Then take the brown color to your crease and blend it up. Do mascara after eyeshadow so you can easily access the lid without having to work around the lashes, but be very careful to not get any mascara on the eyeshadow.

By: Jewell Dover

It is finally time to break out that Autumn make up, but maybe over the summer your skin shade has changed or you just don’t have the makeup you want. Makeup isn’t cheap by any means, but that doesn’t mean

The colors in the pallet we chose are shimmery, but it would have been better if they were matte to keep the fall feel and to look more warm and natural. So I would recommend taking time to find a cheap matte pallet. The main focus of this look it to make sure you focus on warm colors and a bold lip color with a little bit of a brown undertone . that you can’t enjoy the beauty trends this fall. With just a quick stop by your local Wal-Mart and under twenty dollars in your pocket you can pull off an adorable look. We were going for a warm maroon and gold eye with a nice full coverage foundation and a bold lip. If you want to recreate this look you’ll need the following products; wet n wild photo focus foundation $4.68, wet n wild mega glow highlighting powder $4.68, NYC smooth skin bronzer 3.97, elf gel and powder eyebrow kit $3.00, Maybelline New York Expert Wear Quads Eyeshadow $5.00, Maybelline unstoppable eyeliner and free mini great lash mascara $5.34, MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick $4.99. Apply the foundation evenly; be sure to completely blend it out under your chin and by yours ears. I find that an oval brush or a flat top foundation brush works best for this. Sometimes if the foundation doesn’t provide the coverage you desire you can go in with some concealer to touch up any blemishes. We, however, skipped this step to save money. Next you’ll want to apply some bronzer beneath your cheekbones and a little on your temple. Place some under your jaw and near your hair line and blend. Some people like to have a ton of highlight, so just go with how ever much you’re comfortable with. I like to go with some on your upper cheek bones and some on the tip of your nose and on your cupids bow. I think too much highlight feels a bit summery so I’d keep it more on the light side. You’ll want to brush your brows into a good shape for

TUPAC FAKED HIS DEATH By: Jenni Essari On September 7th, 1996, at MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas NV, Tupac was attending a Mike Tyson boxing match. After the match, Tupac left with Suge Knight. On the way out Tupac and his body guards got in a fight with Orlando Anderson in the lobby. Orlando was a part of the Compton-based Crips gang. Tupac then left with Suge with his entourage following in cars behind theirs. When stopped at a stoplight, a white Cadillac pulled up to the passenger side window and shot at them out of their back window. Hitting Tupac four times and Suge only got grazed with a bullet across his head. Fourteen shots were fired. In 2014, 18 years after the shooting, a sergeant Chris Carroll came forward to say that he was the first one at the scene. Questions were swarming with things like “why was he quiet for 18 years?” Carroll was the one who opened the car to find Tupac covered in blood; he then asks Tupac “who shot you?” Tupac replies with only “F you”. Those ended up being Tupac’s last words. Six days later Tupac was announced dead after being on life support. He was only twenty five years old. Another crazy thing is that the shooters were never found and no one had been arrested by the police. You’d think when someone this well-liked dies, then they wouldn’t give up on finding the culprit... According to a Las Vegas homicide detective, “the same treatment as any other homicide here” was given to Tupac. It just keeps getting crazier as one of Tupac’s entourage members claimed that he could indeed identify the assailant; it was no shock when he was murdered two months later. They failed to set up a follow up interview. Most think they planned this to hide the fact that they are hiding Tupac. Cremation was the choice for Tupac and whoever did the cremation immediately retired afterwards and was never seen again. Theory 1: The Southside Crips Gang, Orlando Anderson, and none other than Biggie smalls is who they think did it. Members of the Southside Crips were involved in the shooting as retaliation for Tupac’s beating of Orlando Anderson after Mike Tyson’s Fight. Orlando Anderson was the shooter. Biggie Smalls paid one million dollars for the murder of Tupac and supplied the gun for Orlando. Orlando was shot to death in May of 1998 but before that he had denied all responsibility for Tupac’s death and was never charged. Biggie VS Tupac has been a feud for a while now and it’s been shown through reported verbal altercation and diss tracks. One track’s name was “hit ‘em up” when Tupac claims he slept with Biggie’s wife. Neither biggie nor anyone associated with Biggie was questioned about the incident. Theory 2: Suge Knight set up the shooting. Apparently Suge owed Tupac over three million dollars. Suge was in charge of

Death Row and that happened to be the label that Tupac had signed over to. Coincidentally Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s Mother, sued Death Row Records in 1997 for mishandling Tupac’s funds. Tupac was also intending to leave Death Row Records. So right after Tupac fired his lawyer that contracted Death Row Records, Suge invited Tupac to this fight. ALSO right after the brawl in the lobby Suge had to just take a second to make a phone call. WHEN YOUR BOY GETS INTO A FIGHT IN A LOBBY YOU DON’T STOP TO MAKE A CALL UNLESS YOU ARE SETTING HIM UP. Knight also insisted that Tupac ride with him for reassurance. Hmm. Orlando also said that knight was part of their gang but then tried to make him look good by saying he tried to break up the fight. Of course the ONE bullet wound that Knight received that night was not clarified by the police or the hospital. No one actually knows if he got shot. Theory 3: P. DIDDY orchestrated Tupac’s death. P. Diddy had paid one of Crip’s Gang members one million dollars to follow through with the murder of Tupac’s death. This was recorded and Keith Davis was the one who confessed it on tape. Davis also claims that again, Orlando Anderson was the triggerman. Keith also explaining that if they would’ve pulled up on the other side of Tupac’s vehicle he, himself would’ve had to pop him instead of Orlando. P. Diddy thought that Suge Knight was going to “strike first” so he had to make a move. Then you have P. Diddy being questioned and all he has to say is “this story is pure fiction and completely ridiculous”. Theory 4: Jewish Defense League. The FBI has files that had alleged death threats on Tupac from the JDL. Theory 5: Tupac is alive and well in Cuba. Who killed Tupac? Or did he fake it himself ?

NFL National Anthem Protests

much work in to protect African Americans and it would be hard to match what he has done for them the past few years. After all of this Donald J. Trump still called for the firing of players who take a knee during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner in September of this year. This would be showed to be a big mistake by the President of the United States because after these remarks the protests gained more followers. Over 200 players not including staff, coaches, and owners would join in on it. They would sit, kneel, stretch, raise fists, and three teams wouldn’t even come out of the locker rooms. Lots and when I say lots of African Americans I mean most don’t like the president especially when he calls white nationalists “Very fine people.” Now getting back to the star, Kaepernick protested for weeks and was never noticed until a press conference when media like interviewers and photographers pointed it out. He was questioned by them. When the team played Seattle Seahawks an opposing player Jeremy Lane joined Colin Kaerpernick and Reid. Lane then stated after the game he would also continue “Until justice has been served.” Opening day of the 2016 season eleven players joined Colin’s protests. They weren’t just any players they were big time players, household names. Then Mike Evans heard who was running for president in 2016 and he knew something wasn’t right. He thought it was a joke but it continued and after all found out it wasn’t. He ended kneeling the day before veteran’s day. He got criticized and then apologized for doing it that day quoting, “It was just poor timing.” Now, Seth Devalve. He was the first white football player to protest. I think people are starting to get it and understand more and more since other races can join in. Women and other races are scared said a player and it’s not okay. The country is in a bad place. The current Vice President, Mike Pence, went to a game after the president made his remarks and Trump told Pence if they protest to leave the game. The players protested and so then Mike Pence stood for the anthem and then left the game. Players and people have every right to protest for what they believe in and that’s what they are doing. Trump can’t control them like he controlled Pence. Protests like these have happened before like the 1968 Summer Olympics when Gold medalist Tommie Smith and bronze medalist John Carlos raised their fists on the podium. Jimi Hendrix put up a peace sign with his hand before the anthem before his performance at Woodstock in August 18, 1969. Players don’t think it’s fair for Colin Kaerpernick because they think he’s not getting playing time due to his protests. He went from a star to a free agent in the league right after all this happened and no one has picked him up even after all of the amazing performances and seasons he had with the San Francisco 49ers.in.

They started the 2015-2016 NFL preseasons and carried on throughout the whole season, regular and post. They have been present ever since. Different U.S. athletes in other sports joined in on it a little but it wasn’t talked about as much. It is a silent protest of police brutality and racial inequality during the playing of the U.S. National Anthem. The protests have had different reactions. Some have called it unpatriotic and disrespectful. They say it’s very disrespectful to the flag, police, and military. The attention was mostly to the National Football League or NFL because it first happened with San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Colin Kaepernick at the time and teammate safety Eric Reid. They first sat and later kneeled during the anthem. This started going around and later more athletes decided they would join in. On September 24, 2017 the NFL protest became more widespread than ever when over 200 players sat, kneeled, stretched, and or stayed in the locker room in response to President Donald Trump’s calling for owners to fire the protesting players. There is a game operations manual that quotes, “Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the National Anthem.” People view the protests in different ways because some feel it is honoring fallen soldiers and honoring the police force. Others see it as it honors the whole American experience. The two teammates at the time visited a former NFL player and retired Green Beret, Nate Boyer. After considering everything after talking to him they decided they would kneel because it was more of a respectful gesture. People felt like they did this just for attention. After all of the African American deaths that happened while they were in custody of the officers it was just enough and the time to take a stand. Colin stated in an interview about the protests on August 26th of 2016 that, “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street, people getting paid and getting away with murder.” He also told them that, “I will continue to protest during the anthem until I feel like the American flag represents what it’s supposed to represent.” Colin Kaepernick pledged that he would donate $1 million of his $11.9 million salary from the 2016-2017 seasons to different organizations that help communities in need. He has lived up to it and even his former team jumped in and helped by giving $1 million to two organizations addressing racial and social inequality. The quarterback holds camps for young people of color called “Know Your Rights”. I don’t think he could do too much more to be a better person. He has put so

Un the way he is acting is suicide for both him and his country. This is because the way things are going there will be a new war and things will most likely end badly for North Korea due to their large amount of enemies around the world. Also when Donald Trump says, “The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or allies we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea” it is a little extreme, but true. If the United States needs to defend itself or one of its allies then they will and definitely need start a war with North Korea. Even though what Trump said might be a little overboard it is true.

North Korea Conflict By: Colin Briley On September 19th Donald Trump gave a speech that caused even more conflict between the United States and North Korea. Trump during his United Nations speech said the following “The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or allies we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself, and his regime.” This speech has caused lots of conflict between these two nations. In this speech Donald Trump calls Kim Jong Un “rocket man” due to his constant manufacturing and research for rockets. North Korea has slowly been rising as a threat to the world as it gains more missiles. Kim Jong Un has been absolutely outraged, because of what Trump called Kim Jong Un. Kim, in a recent response to Donald Trump, said “Mentally deranged U.S.dotard”. A dotard can be defined as an older person who has specifically become senile or weak. Basically in this response Kim is calling Trump a crazy old man. Not only did Donald Trump say this, but he also stated that “A frightened dog barks the loudest.” This is saying that Donald Trump is a “frightened dog” and that his threats to North Korea are only because Trump is scared. This is just a growing conflict between the two countries. As the tension grows between the countries the chances of a new war also grows. The tension is growing between these two nations slowly. If things keep going the way they are going then a new war will definitely be in the near future. Tensions between the United States and North Korea have been a problem for a long time. They are a very big threat to the United States, because of North Korea’s strong relationship with China. The problem with North Korea bombing the United States for North Korea is that it will start a new war and China will back out from helping North Korea. This harms North Korea, because they will not have any strong allies if there were to be a war. China is a very big threat to the United States. The United States is in a bad situation at the moment. If they do nothing to stop the production of missiles/rockets in North Korea than North Korea can become a superpower. If they try to stop them then they start a new war. The United States is in a lose-lose situation. What trump said in his United Nations speech may have been a bit childish, but what he said was true. Kim Jong

The Las Vegas Shooting

By: Alexis Plumb October 1st 2017 – During a Jason Aldean concert on the Las Vegas strip a gunman opened fire into the crowd killing at least fifty nine people and injuring at least five hundred people. The gunman Stephen Paddock rained gunfire on concertgoers causing the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history. Police said the gunman fired on the crowd of about 22,000 people from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, several hundred feet southwest of the concert grounds. “The gunshots lasted for 10 to 15 minutes. It didn’t stop,” said witness Rachel de Kerf. Authorities identified the shooter as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada, a retired and twice-divorced accountant with no known children. Paddock was alive when officers first made contact with him outside suite 32135. After taking gunfire from him, police backed off and waited for SWAT teams to respond. A security guard was shot in the leg. Police said officers “breached the hotel room” where the shooter was located and “found the suspect dead.” Authorities believe he killed himself.

Police say they have not determined Paddock’s motives. As such, they are not calling the shooting terrorism -- an attack on civilians to intimidate or coerce society for political purposes. “We have to establish what his motivation was first,” said Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, when asked why the shooting has not been labeled domestic terrorpg #

Witnesses supposedly saw multiple victims as they fled the gunfire raining down on the concert venue. Some later huddled in the basement of the nearby Tropicana hotel-casino. Many people ran to McCarran International Airport once the shots began. Flights in and out of the airport were temporarily halted, the airport said in a tweet. Around 11 p.m., police were saying on the scanner that at least 20 people were dead. Twenty-six people were admitted to the hospital, University Medical 527 wounded. Then around 11:25 pm, police had the suspect down on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay. “Confirming that one suspect is down. This is an active investigation. Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time.” Confirmed Police around midnight. “At this time we do not believe there are any more shooters.” Police stated an hour later. A lot of witnesses reported what they thought was the sound of fireworks while Jason Aldean was singing, “When she was baby.” The music stopped temporarily and started up again before another round of pops sent the performers ducking for cover and fleeing the stage. Among those playing the Route 91 festival on Sunday night were Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, Luke Combs, Dylan Scott and Big & Rich. Scott, Owen and Combs all managed to stay safe after the shooting. As of today it is no longer an ongoing investigation, they still believe there was only one shooter who is deiced and all of the injured are on their way to Recovery

Districts and focus on the next game.” pg #

OKC Thunder is on the rise in NBA power rankings. Russell Westbrook was the MVP last season as he averaged a triple double, something nobody thought was possible. Russell had little to no help on offense last season, so the Thunder made some big offseason moves. OKC acquired Paul George in June in a trade with the Pacers. OKC sent the Pacers their shooting guard Victor Oladipo and Power Forward Domantis Sobonis.

Paul George has become an All-star in the NBA averaging over 18 points throughout his career and over 23 in his last two seasons with Pacers. Pacers fans were very disappointed and sad with George’s departure and many analyst and people thought the players the Pacers received had far less value than what OKC received. Paul George was looking to leave Indiana in the first place. Russell and Paul George were looking like they could compete to be one of the best duos in the NBA. George brings offensive and defensive skills to OKC. As Thunder fans couldn’t be any more hyped another crazy offseason move was made in September. Carmelo Anthony, 11 time NBA All-star and power forward for the Knicks was looking to get out of New York quick. He was ready to move on to somewhere where he felt he could win a championship. He wanted to go to Houston and play with friends Chris Paul and James Harden, but OKC was on his list of potential landing spots as well. In September OKC sent Center Enes Kanter and small forward Doug Mcdermott to the New York Knicks for Carmelo Anthony. The Thunder looks to be a championship contender once again. It also looks like they might be the Golden State Warriors biggest competition. OKC’s big 3 of Anthony, George, and Westbrook will have to build chemistry and learn how to pass the ball around as all three players like to have the ball in their hands. They face the Knicks for their first pg #

CHIEFS The Kansas City Chiefs are on a hot streak as they roll passed the Texans Sunday night 42-34. The Chiefs are now 5-0 and Quarterback Alex Smith is looking like an MVP. Alex has thrown 11 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and over 1300 yards. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt has put on a show this year so far as he leads the NFL in rushing yards with 609 through 5 games. He has scored more touchdowns in first two games than any player in history and also is about to break the record of most 100+ yards game in rookie year. The Chiefs haven’t had an explosive offense like this one in a while. They have the fastest wide receiver in the NFL in Tyreek Hill, One of the best and fastest Tight ends in Travis Kelce, and Kareem Hunt the rookie sensation. The defense took a crucial blow at the beginning of the season when they lost Safety Eric Berry for the season due to injury, but with a healthy Justin Houston back he’s averaging a little over a sack a game and pressuring opposing QBs. The Chiefs will face the Steelers next Sunday and look to extend their undefeated season.
