Our story Initial Projects Ltd was founded in March 1991 by close friends Adam Chell and Ivor Parry; the trading name of enitial was adopted 10 years later to ensure a unique brand. The Company was formed with the objective of providing a range of specialised environmental services to site owners and operators. In 2001 Richard Evans joined the team to build the environmental monitoring element of the business. Since then the business has grown organically to now offer a nationwide presence with a team of over 70. Collectively having over 75 years experience within the environmental sector, our knowledge, skill and understanding equips us with the best tools to offer innovative solutions to environmental issues.

Supporting planning applications, in accordance with PPG 24 ‘Planning and Noise’

We use Class 1/Type 1 sound level meters and offer bespoke setup services that include the configuration of extended data storage, unattended monitoring, remote downloads, text alert system and digital sound recording.

Bioaerosol surveys Bioaerosol is a term used to define a micro-organism that is suspended in the air. These micro-organisms are derived from plants, organic matter, animals and humans and contain fungi and bacteria. Bioaerosols are generally less than 10mm in size and due to their airborne nature, can penetrate the human respiratory system, resulting in inflammatory and allergic reactions to those with lowered immune systems. We offer a premium bioaerosol monitoring service to the organic recycling industry sector. To ensure accurate and reliable data we are able to offer sampling by either filters or Andersen-type samplers and offer a custom set-up dependent on the requirement of the project. The combination of our competency, experience, procedures and management systems guarantee that our services are quality assured to a level that will satisfy auditing by clients or regulators.

enidata enidata is a PDA-based data collection system that has been pioneered by data collection specialists for data collections specialists. With first hand experience of the re-occurring issues that face the gathering of sensitive field data, we set out to develop an easy to use software that would assist with problems such as locating collection points, recording data efficiently and finally the timely production of factually detailed reports. The result is exactly that and more. The system provides traceability by automatically recording date, time and location by GPS for all sampling and monitoring activities. It also has the ability to provide photographic evidence to support audits and reports. This data can be populated into Google Earth software to show the locations of the monitoring as well as allowing the technician to pinpoint any issues of environmental concern. Data is streamed directly to enitial’s central server within minutes of completion and produces bespoke data reports within one hour of completing the monitoring activities. This powerful software is the perfect tool for any organisation that has environmental responsibilities with accurate, reliable and time critical information. enidata is available as part of a monitoring service, PDA package or software download.

Environmental reporting We understand the importance of accurate analysis and precision reporting. Our MCERTS accredited database is operated by analysts who interpret the data and produce detailed reports for clients and also for submission to the Environment Agency or SEPA. Our systems are regularly audited both internally and externally to ensure compliance and accuracy. Our reports include; 

Completion reports

Annual environmental reports & reviews

Quarterly environmental reports

Compliance audits

Infrastructure audit

Closed landfill management service Our management service has been established to provide closed landfill site owners with a technically and logistically strong team of specialists to monitor and manage their sites. The team has a large contingent of Closed Landfill CoTC and Leachate Treatment CoTC holders. Where the sites have pollution or emission issues we are able to provide and install the most appropriate and cost effective control measures. This service is currently provided successfully at nearly 50 closed landfill sites nationwide. The service incorporates 24 hour response, complete environmental monitoring package, equipment operation and repair, infrastructure maintenance and full analysis and reporting of results along with advice and solutions should problems occur. Our service also includes direct interface with the Environment Agency, other governing/regulating bodies and attendance at local resident liaison meetings. We would be pleased to discuss how we can develop an aftercare package to suit individual site requirements.

Pumping trials Landfill gas pumping trials are undertaken to either establish gas yield rates for commercial exploitation, establish effective zones of influence for gas wells to assist in system design, to investigate impact on migration or to establish whether a site can sustain flaring of gas. We can provide a full range of equipment dedicated to pumping trial operation supported by experienced and trained landfill gas engineers and technicians located throughout the UK and boast a track record of professional pumping trials undertaken over a period of 20 years. Leachate pumping trials are undertaken to assist in the design of permanent leachate management systems, through the investigation of cones of influence, sustainable extraction rates along with confirmation of optimum pumping equipment. We undertake leachate pumping trials using pneumatic, electric submersible and eductor pumps alongside automated level and flow logging equipment and on completion of the site activities a comprehensive report to the client’s specific requirements is produced.

Landfill gas control systems Although most contemporary landfill sites in the UK have had gas extraction systems installed, many of these require regular repair, replacement or expansion. In addition a significant number of the older sites still have requirements for gas control systems, often determined as a result of gas pumping trials. We have extensive experience and capability in control systems from the complete design and installation of gas control systems, through to fault finding, minor repairs to major upgrades, control systems for power generation through to migration and emission control. We are unique in the UK with our portfolio of projects ongoing and completed. Our blend of expertise and experience is used to complement our closed site management packages; these can include compliance monitoring, field balancing, control system installation, leachate system service and maintenance, landfill gas flare servicing and repair and ultimately direct reporting to the Environment Agency. Not only is the full range of experienced resource available in-house but also we operate the systems that we install.

Leachate control systems The management of leachate is normally a key requirement for permitted landfill sites and prior to the permitting regulations; sites operated under a waste management license were equally regulated. The management of leachate at landfill sites is required so as to prevent pollution of the environment through contamination of surface and ground waters. The method of leachate management is generally through maintaining a maximum liquid level within the waste mass through pumping leachate, the leachate pumped must then be disposed of in a suitable manner. There are many components and options relating to leachate management, from the different types of pumps suitable for use in landfill leachate through to the varying types of on site treatment or off site disposal. Our history within this sector has equipped us with a comprehensive understanding of all forms of leachate pumping including pneumatic, electric and educator systems. Drawing upon our experience of providing complete closed site management services for landfill operators we are able to assist our clients in sourcing, installing, operating and maintaining all aspects of leachate management.

Pump servicing We offer cost effective maintenance plans for all brands of electric, educator and pneumatic leachate pumps. Our service plan includes Collection and delivery Removal and installation Pump exchange service Workshop or ‘on site’ service Quick turnaround time Pump tracking and performance reporting Scheduled visits The pump will be stripped, cleaned, de-scaled after which a performance assessment is completed, which includes replacing worn or damaged components. Finally your pumps are balanced, reassembled and tested. All of our plans are bespoke and focus on individual requirements.
