Bobby Willcox enters his first season with the defensive secondary and first with the Majors in 2009 after spending the last four seasons at New Mexico State University. While at New Mexico State, Willcox spent one season as video coordinator in 2005, one season as a graduate assistant with the defensive secondary in 2006, one season with the inside linebackers in 2007 and most recently as the tight ends coach in 2008. In 2007, Willcox guided Aggies linebacker Dante Floyd to allWestern Athletic Conference second team honors, as he led the team in tackles with 124. Overall, Willcox’s inside linebackers tallied 266 tackles. Drew Willis returns for a second year to coach the Majors’ running backs after a third straight successful season of improvement. And, with the departure of Aaron Pelch to the NFL, Willis will take over special teams for a first season. In just his first year as a collegiate coach, the Majors’ running game improved from 4.3 to 5.0 yards-per-carry, the best average for a Millsaps team this decade. Three running backs went for 300 yards or more for a second consecutive year, including Co-Newcomer of the Year Shane Bowser who led all running backs with 389 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Bowser also caught 29 passes for 314 yards and five more scores, as running backs added 200 more receiving yards out of the backfield from their production in 2007. As a unit, Millsaps rushed for 1,314 net yards and 20 touchdowns in 12 games, an improvement of eight touchdowns from 2007 (12). A three-year letterman at Division II national powerhouse Valdosta State University, Willis graduated with a degree in secondary education in 2006 where he played QB and TE from 2001-04. A two-year starter for head coach Chris Atcher, now at Georgia Southern, the Blazers won three conference championships in 2001, 2002 and 2004, where national finalists in 2002 and hoisted the national championship trophy in 2004. They were nationally-ranked in the Top 10 all four seasons. A student assistant in 2005 2005 for his alma mater, Willis grabbed his first r coaching job in the fall of 2006 at Tift County Cou unty HS in Tifton, Ga. Coaching QB’s,, Willis helped W lead the team to the statee ssemifinals in his only season. Prior to being beiing hired by 008 8, Willis Millsaps in February of 2008, coached at Early County HS in Blakely, Ga. A native of Sylvester, Ga. Ga.,, Willis is the middle child of three kids and has an older brother, Burt, and younger sister, Ashlyn. He resides in Brandon.
