Go Local Lace

Bridesmaid Dresses Out with the old, and in with the new. Traditionally, only the bride would walk down the aisle in a long, lacy gown, but times have changed and lace accents are popping up on bridesmaid dresses more than ever, says Rosa Fasola of Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. “Lace bridesmaid dresses are a great way to complement a lace-adorned bridal gown or even a lace-themed wedding,” she says. “These dresses are definitely becoming more popular,” says Tracy Burke of New York Bride and Groom. “Lace is a classic look, it never goes out. You will not look back in a couple of years saying, ‘Wow what was I thinking?’”

Birdcage Veil Returns

The vintage birdcage veil is a retro look, dating back to the days of the flappers, according to John Vater of Spa Adriana in Huntington, and it’s making a big-time comeback. Founder and CEO of Sincerely Yours Events Tammy Cunningham agrees that the veil is hot. “I love the vintage, yet chic and elegant look it adds to any wedding ensemble,” she says. “These days, I find that more and more brides are choosing a birdcage veil, as they are extremely light and go perfectly with long and sleek gowns, as well as with flirty short dresses. In its simplest form, the birdcage is still classic and timeless!” In order to pull off this look Vater advises brides-to-be to select hairstyles tighter to the head like finger wave sets or half-up half-down styles with a wave that have a softer look. This past summer Long Island designer Caitlin Bosso of Farmingdale introduced her first bridal collection. “This is something that, since I was very little, is all I wanted to do, all I thought about as a career,” the 27-year-old F.I.T. graduate explains. The four bridal gowns that make up her freshman collection (available at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa, for $3,400-$6,000) are aimed at satisfying every kind of bride. “I try to do something a little different with each,” she says. She describes one gown with pearl beading as classic. Another, with lace and an illusion back, as romantic. A gown with ruffles she describes as playful and one with peplum as elegant, for a trendy bride looking for a modern splash. Her next collection launches this April and Bosso hopes to complement each of these designs by adding a different flair to each. “We’re tying to make beautiful dresses,” she adds. “And make happy brides as much as we can.”
