INTRODUCTION

MAGGIE HANNA After receiving a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Architecture, Maggie Hanna worked with some of the best residential Architects along the West coast. It was there that she designed homes for some of Hollywood’s most influential people. She later moved to Seattle to practice with other well known and acclaimed residential and commercial Architects before starting her own design studio, WAKEdesign. WAKEdesign is a labor of love for Maggie. She had the privilege of brining her clients’ concept home to fruition. Nothing ever makes Maggie happier than seeing her clients overwhelmed with the joy that comes from quality design.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY & BIOGRAPHY

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY Clients have ideas, designers have vision; a skill unique to the design profession. It is the inherent ability of a good designer to determine the essence of a project by developing a relationship with clients in order to curate a holistically focused response to their needs. While a client will express a singular need for more space, it is the designer whom must give that space a sense-of-place. That is to say, going beyond verbatim of the client wish list. Rather it is providing unique and innovative designs that evoke a sense-of-place; the undeniable appreciation and love for a space. Passion, an analytical mind, and continual education are the characteristics which make a good designer. The ability to coalesce those characteristics to serve each client uniquely is what makes a great designer.

BIOGRAPHY Before receiving my Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture in 2009 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, I had the privilege of studying Architecture abroad in Torino, Italy. It was there that I was able to physically explore some of wondrous structures I had studied and written about in the classroom. The exhilaration of experiencing the built form of these structures, which for so log had only lived on paper, fueled my desire to continue my education. In 2011 I received my Master’s of Architecture degree from the NewSchool of Architecture in San Diego. It was with awe that our graduation was fittingly held at the much revered Salk Institute designed by Louis Kahn. It was a remarkable sendoff into the practice of Architecture.

BIOGRAPHY After woking with awarded and highly acclaimed Architects along the West coast, I started my own consultancy, WAKEdesign. It was in the process of running my own business that I developed additional skills in marketing, business management, accounting, and client relations. First providing Architects around the county with drafting services, I later moved to Seattle to focus on residential Architecture and clientele of my own. Now, my projects, which I had only seen laid out on paper or a computer screen, have been built. Experiencing the built form of my own designs has been one of the biggest joys of my life. However, it is nothing compared to seeing the happiness on my clients face. Knowing that I have provided them, not just a space for them to go at days end, but a place they call “home is the essence of career satisfaction.
