TIGERS PICKED TO WIN C-USA, EARN NCAA TOURNEY BID • In most preseason publications, Memphis is the favorite to win the 2011-12 Conference USA regular season crown. The Sporting News, Lindy’s, Athlon Sports and CBSSports.com all pick the Tigers to finish first in the C-USA regular season standings. • Athlon Sports picked the Tigers to advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen. • CBSSports.com’s Jerry Palm picked Memphis as the No. 2 seed in the South Region of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers would open play against the No. 15 seed Hampton in Nashville. • Lindy’s ranked Memphis No. 13 in its preseason magazine.

• Blue Ribbon College Yearbook ranked the Tigers No. 12 in its preseason poll. • SI.com ranked the Tigers No. 18 in its preseason power rankings. WILL BARTON, JACKSON NAMED TO WOODEN AWARD WATCH LIST • Will Barton and Joe Jackson both were named to the 2011-12 John R. Wooden Award preseason watch list, The Los Angeles Athletic Club Wooden Award Committee announced on Oct. 3. • The Wooden Award has been given annually to college basketball’s Player of the Year since 1976. WILL BARTON, JACKSON NAMED TO NAISMITH TROPHY WATCH LIST • Will Barton and Joe Jackson both were named to the 2011-12 Naismith Trophy preseason watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Nov. 7. • The Naismith Trophy has been given annually to college basketball’s Player of the Year since 1969. THOMAS ON TISDALE WATCH LIST • Adonis Thomas was named to the 2011-12 the 2011-12 Wayman Tisdale Award preseason watch list, the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced Oct. 20. • The Tisdale Award is given annually to college basketball’s Freshman of the Year. • Thomas was one of 12 freshmen from across the nation to be named to the Tisdale Award watch list. • In 2009, Memphis’ Tyreke Evans was selected the USBWA National Freshman of the Year. THREE TIGERS NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-C-USA TEAMS • Three Tigers were named to the 2011-12 preseason All-Conference USA teams, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. • Will Barton was a preseason All-C-USA first team pick, while Tarik Black and Joe Jackson were selected to the All-C-USA second team. • In 2010-11, Barton was a preseason All-C-USA second team pick as a freshman. WHAT WE DID THIS PAST SUMMER • Joe Jackson played with USA Basketball’s U19 squad that participated in the FIBA World Championships in Latvia in late June/early July. He averaged just over 11 ppg in helping lead Team USA to a fifth-place finish at the Championships. • Will Barton participated in the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp in early June. • Drew Barham played with an Athletes In Action squad that toured East Asia in June. • Preston Laird was one of two Memphis student-athletes to attend in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in mid-June.
