Nowadays, the world is being transformed at breathtaking pace, fuelled by a highly complex series of
global megatrends ―set of large-scale and long-lasting transformative patterns of change― which are deeply reconfiguring the way we live and work. From population ageing across the globe and climate change, to technological disruptions and globalization, understanding these megatrends acting on our world has never been so critical and urgent. Uncertainty has become the new normal of our times. However, the world of tomorrow can be inferred based on the evolution of these global megatrends.
The current world population of 7.7 billion is expected to reaching 8.6 billion in 2030, 9.8 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion in 2100, according to the UN Population Prospects. High population growth and unplanned economic development are taking toll of the environment. It is estimated that by 2050, at current consumption and production patterns, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption.
