FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK Whew, what a month, as we worked on this yet another marvelous issue! Being in constant communication with whomsoever reading Tulip is what we look forward to, as nothing else gives me more satisfaction than people appreciating what we publish in the magazine. Early onset of Monsoons! Typical of Hyderabad, yet there is something about the rains which makes us happy all the time. Smell of the sand following the rain, enjoying a cup of hot coffee with friends, going for a long drive with that someone special or playing Football, the season is closely connected to our lives. It even makes you feel like dancing! The cover story features former Miss India Universe, Gul Panag talking about her professional and personal lives and what she loves to do beyond acting. Every traveler dreams to visit Bali once in lifetime - be it for the beaches, the number of temples or experiencing various cultures there. Therefore, the focus on Expedition is this divine destination. We also show a cinematic history of the Dream Girl of Bollywood – Hema Malini, her major blockbusters, felicitations and recognitions she achieved in her life so far, as an actress and as a classical dance artist. Lona Logan talks about her life in Australia, how much she enjoys being a part of Hyderabad now and her passion towards photography, in A Day From Her Diary. Restful at home while it’s raining hard outside and reading a novel within cozy, warm ambience is another activity we love to do. Therefore, we give you the list of best-sellers like – Sisterhood Everlasting (from Ann Brashares) and others, which are sure to make you feel good, just being at home.

Three things I have learnt from this issue Nothing is more precious than sharing a wonderful relationship with the loved ones. Significance of ancient art – Romanticism and how the epoch had an impingement on the following future. Importance of being fit by sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

he had not revealed the baby son’s name yet, but Natalie Portman is now officially a mommy. It’s been quite a whirlwind for her, who made her biggest splash yet in Hollywood last year. The 2010 Best Actress Oscar winner and fiancé, Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied are now parents, seven months after announcing Portman was pregnant and that they were getting engaged. The two met while filming this ballet drama. This baby is the first child for the couple. The 30-year young who is known for being tight lipped about her private life, expressed publicly about her pregnancy and engagement in short sentences of joy - ‘I have always kept my private life private, but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience.’ She had stuck to traditions when it came to baby’s birth. She also stated, she’d be out of public eye for a while, until she makes a comeback for her future projects. Portman also revealed that she was overwhelmed by the support she received from family and friends for her upcoming comedy flick - ‘No Strings Attached.’

JOLIE AND UN OFFICIALS Visit migrants from Africa

A

ngelina Jolie travelled to the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa on Sunday and thanked the residents for welcoming in the estimated 20,000 migrants who arrived after fleeing unrest in Tunisia and Libya. Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, toured a migrant holding centre, chatted with a few refugees and then participated in a ceremony at Lampedusa’s memorial for migrants lost at sea as part of commemorations for World Refugee Day. Jolie quoted - ‘You cannot imagine what you represented to all those people this year who were looking desperately for help.’ She thanked the residents who gathered for the ceremony for welcoming the migrants in and asked them to consider how bad their lives must have been, that they would risk everything for the chance of a better life in Europe. ‘It is very hard to imagine looking out at this beautiful sea, how many people have risked their lives and how many people have risked their children’s lives and so many of them have lost their lives at sea,’ she said. Pope Benedict XVI and U.N. refugee Chief Antonio Guterres have also urged European nations to continue keeping the doors open to refugees.

THE HANGOVER II

Biggest R-rated comedy ever!

I

t was one of the most anticipated sequels of the summer. The Hangover II grew its worldwide box office total to $488.7 million, surpassing the $467.5 million earned by the original film to become the biggest R-rated comedy of all time. The big surprise is the film’s international performance. By no means, the movie is close to being finished and still has Spain and Japan yet to open. And domestically, it’s still high up on the top 10 chart. This flick is the biggest 3-day weekend comedy debut ever, beating The Simpsons Movie’s $74M. And it shattered all R-rated comedy records, both weekend and even first week numbers for Sex And The City.

She said – ‘Salman has been inspiring. I never thought about becoming a professional singer. I used to learn music in school like everybody does. I was studying at St. Xaviers in Mumbai and was not very serious. But Salman has got me on track, guided me from time to time, encouraged me to come out of my shell and whatever I am today - the credit goes to him completely for making me a saleable name. When he noticed that I like to sing and have a voice which could be moulded, he introduced me to Sajid-Wajid so that I could polish my skills. I started doing regular rehearsals ever since and there was no looking back for me.’ She is now happy to be a part of the music industry.

ajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Bollywood blockbuster - 3 Idiots broke all the records at the office by having the highest gross rate. And we are well aware of the buzz going on about the Telugu-remake of this comedy flick. News is being circulated that Pawan kalyan, Siddarth and Allari Naresh will be the leads in this version (Ranchordas Chachhad, Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi respectively). It is also known that Geetha Arts is making this movie under star-producer Allu Arvind’s supervision. The hunt for the heroines opposite the three stars is going on. Also, Suriya is said to be the one playing the same role in the Tamil version. Well, we really have to wait to see that the Telugu version has, in its purse.

HASSAN’S NEXT

With Isha and Sonakshi

T

he apprehension over who would be the second women in Kamal Hassan’s Viswaroopam is finally cleared. A fine dancer and a Kalaripayattu expert, Isha Sharvani would play second fiddle to Sonakshi Sinha in this film. This movie is trilingual and directed by Kamal Haasan himself. It was earlier rumored that Shriya Saran would be playing the second heroine role in it. However, she later confirmed that she is not a part of the project. Looks like Kamal Hassan chose the Kisna girl over Shriya Saran. With Bollywood glam dolls Isha and Sonakshi, the movie ought to get a heavy response. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy will compose the tunes for this movie and will be produced by Telefoto Films.

J

r NTR’s upcoming movie tentatively titled Oosaravelli’s shooting is progressing in Hyderabad. The latest news related to the project is that the story is leaked and this is making rounds on internet. But nobody is really sure whether it is the actual story or a fake one. Jr NTR plays a software professional who works in a reputed software company. He romances the heroine who works in the same company. Tamanna is playing female lead role in this film. Jr NTR has a very sensitive character - he is shy, timid and does not affirm violence until a villain takes an entry and the story changes to a different aspect altogether where NTR is also said to get disabled. Well, we really should wait for the movie to get released and see which of this is true. This film is slated for release in August and one has to say that it is too early to start the promotion activities for this movie.

MAJESTIC MCLLROY

Youngest US Open Champion

N

orthern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy completed a remarkable four days to clinch his first major title with an eight-shot victory in the US Open. He became the youngest US Open champion since Bobby Jones in 1923 and the youngest major winner since Tiger Woods triumphed at the Masters in 1997. The 22-year-old broke a host of scoring records and shot a final-round 69 to end 16 under par at Congressional. He said – ‘The whole week has been incredible. I could not have asked for any more and I am so happy to hold this trophy.’ McIlroy banished memories of his Masters meltdown, when he blew a four-shot lead going into the final day and marched to a first major title at his 10th attempt as a professional.

Hudson Inspires Braves’ Win

A

S P O R T S

tlanta Braves’ pitcher Tim Hudson shut out the Toronto Blue Jays for more than eight innings and drove in the only runs of a 2-0 Interleague win. The right-hander allowed just two hits and retired 20 batters to ensure his two-run homer in the seventh inning would win the game for the Braves, second in the National League East. Carlos Zambrano had suffered a dismal start on the same ground last year, giving up four runs before his resulting tirade in the dug-out led to a three-game ban and anger management classes, but tonight he struck out five in eight innings and Starlin Castro and Carlos Pena homered in a four-run sixth inning for the Cubs. The Milwaukee Brewers, top of the National League Central, were beaten 8-4 by the Tampa Bay Rays, for whom Evan Longoria struck a three-run homer in the eighth innings. A three-run homer by Jason Giambi in a six-run fifth inning helped the Colorado Rockies to an 8-7 win over the American League Central leading Cleveland Indians. Giambi’s blow scored Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki, the latter having hit a two-out, two RBI double immediately beforehand, as the Rockies turned the game on its head.

EURO 2012

Ballack declines German swansong

E

x-Germany captain Michael Ballack will not be making a farewell appearance for his country after dismissing Joachim Low’s offer of a swansong as a farce. Low has opted to move on from the 34-year-old playmaker but raised the possibility of giving him a send off in next month’s friendly against Brazil. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich man, now with Bayer Leverkusen, was not impressed by that idea though. He said - ‘The style and content of [Low’s] statement are unfortunately exactly the way he has treated me since my serious injury last summer. To call a friendly match that was arranged long ago a farewell match is a farce in my opinion. I know I owe my fans this match but I cannot accept the offer.’ DFB general secretary Wolfgang Niersbach said - ‘I have absolutely no understanding, let alone him saying it’s a ‘hypocrisy’ or a ‘farce’. In my view, all the conversations we have had with him have been fair and just. Michael should have contacted us on how to proceed. However, this did not happen so we decided to give a press release out because it was overdue really.’

PROMISES TO KEEP - by Jane Green

C

allie Perry has a pretty perfect life. It may not be everyone’s idea of happiness – her husband spends more time travelling for his job as a commercials director. Callie, a successful family photographer living in Bedford - New York, is beloved by all who know her. Callie’s parents - Walter and Honor are divorced for almost thirty years and they haven’t spoken for most of that time. They may share a daughter, but it is agreed by all who knew them, they share little else, until they all receive a shocking phone call that changes their lives forever and brings them all together one short, snowy winter. Promises to Keep is about the hard choices we sometimes have to make; about having to be a child, long after you have grown up and mostly, about the enduring nature of love.

BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP

C

hristine wakes up every morning on an unfamiliar bed, with an unfamiliar man. She looks in the mirror and sees an unfamiliar, middle- aged face. And every morning, the man she has woken up with, must explain that he is Ben, he is her husband, she is forty-seven years old and a terrible accident two decades earlier decimated her ability to form new memories. But it’s the phone call from Dr. Nash - a Neurologist, who directs her to her journal, hidden in the back of her closet. For the past few weeks, Christine has been recording her daily activities - tearful mornings with Ben, sessions with Dr. Nash, flashes of scenes from her former life - and rereading past entries, relearning the facts of her life as retold by the husband she is completely dependent upon. Every day, Christine must begin again the reconstruction of her past. And the closer she gets to the truth, the more unbelievable it seems.

ROMANTICISM

A R T

Inspiring Individualism, Subjectivism, Imagination, Emotions, Nature, Irrationalism, Symbolism and Myth… An international artistic and philosophical movement that redefined the fundamental ways in which people of Western cultures thought about themselves and about their world. Romanticist artists were fascinated by the nature, the genius, their passions, inner struggles, their moods, mental potentials and heroes. They investigated human nature and personality, the folk culture, the national and ethnic origins, the medieval era, the exotic, the remote and the mysterious. Romanticist artists had roles of ultimate creators who ignored the established rules, which they felt were too strict, formal, traditional and even procedural. It elevated folk art and ancient custom to something noble, made of spontaneity a desirable character (the musical impromptu) and argued for a natural epistemology of human activities as conditioned by nature in the form of language and customary usage. Christian culture dealt with a struggle between the heavenly perfection and the human experience of inadequacy and guilt. This sense of struggle and ever-present dark forces and dark feelings, were present in the existing culture and part of the whole human experience. The big names during this era included – William Blake, Henry Fuseli, Francisco de Goya who were excellent examples of artists, who not only dealt both with these dark feelings, but also with their rejection of such concepts because they felt society could and should be living up to a higher standard of personal freedom and individualism. Romanticism can be seen as a rejection of the precepts of order, calm, harmony, balance, idealization, and rationality which typified Classicism in general and late 18th-century Neoclassicism in particular. It was also to some extent, a reaction against the enlightenment, against 18th-century rationalism and physical materialism in general. VISUAL ARTS – In European painting, the Romantic sensibility contrasted with the Neoclassicism being taught in the academies. In a revived clash between color and design, the expressiveness and mood of color, as in works of Theodore Garicault and Eugene Delacroix, emphasized in the new prominence of the brushstroke and impasto, the artist’s free handling of paint, tended to be repressed in neoclassicism under a self-effacing finish. Painters like Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Edwin Church often expressed Romantic themes in their paintings, conveying a message that Nature is powerful and will eventually overcome the transient creations of human. More often, they worked to distinguish themselves from their counterparts by depicting unique scenes and landscapes.

ROMANTICISM AND MUSIC – E.T.A. Hoffmann called Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven the three ‘Romantic Composers’ and Ludwig Spohr used the term ‘good romantic style’ to apply to parts of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. It is one of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. Each temple was established within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast. Sunset is the best time to visit, when the golden red skies frame the temple and waves crash into the rocks. The temple itself is built on a small promontory which is only accessible at low tide. During high water the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea, such is its shape. TAMAN AYUN – (literally translates as ‘beautiful garden’) is the Royal Temple of Mengwi Empire, located in Mengwi village. It is set on the land which is surrounded by the big fish pond and look like a drift on the water. It owns the beautiful temple building with multistoried roof and Balinese Architecture. Swish, high-class, mid-scale restaurants and pubs line up the streets as well as the beachfronts. The serene beaches of Kuta are one of the first favorite beaches discovered by tourists. On the south, the beach is fenced by the airport’s runway, which gives you a breathtaking landing experience. The beach stretches as far north as the eyes can see. In the mornings you regularly see Balinese people throwing offerings into the sea, especially when Nyepi (‘Day Of Silence’ that is commemorated every Isakawara – Saka New Year) is approaching. The best spot is the temple right next to the beach about 200-250m to the north of the Hard Rock Hotel. Visit Waterbom Park, the biggest water theme parks in the entire Asia and

Pre-eminent for fine arts, dance and music, Balinese culture and gravid history, Ubud tourism centers on Yoga and nature. In contrast to other tourist locations in southern Bali, Ubud has forests, rivers, cooler temperatures, scenic rice fields, museums, galleries, ancient temples, rivers and natural landscapes. Several boutique hotels and restaurants offer the best of yoga, spa and salon facilities and health services. The Moon of Pejeng is the largest single-cast bronze kettle drum in the world. BEAUTY

Shahnaz Husain has redefined beauty and revolutionized the entire scene of cosmetic care, so much so, that she is acknowledged as the pioneer and leader in her field. With tremendous foresight and courage, she introduced a new concept of organic beauty care, devising her own treatments and formulating her own products. Just when there was a worldwide ‘back to nature’ trend, Shahnaz Husain recaptured an ancient herbal system and made it relevant to modern life. Blemishes on the face can be due to various reasons. There may be dark spots, scars and pits on the skin, left behind by acne. Or, there may be dark patches or dark spots (freckles) on the skin, due to sun-sensitivity. An acne-prone skin is usually oily and should therefore be treated accordingly. A skin with sun-sensitivity is usually on the dry side, although an oily skin may also develop hyperpigmentation. Skin care should be according to skin type.

L

et us consider the dark spots and scars caused by acne. They not only leaves dark marks, but also tiny pits (holes) under the skin. These are difficult to remove, since the pits form due to destruction of skin tissue. The skin also gets a premature aged look. Sometimes, there is extra growth of scar tissue, developing into ‘Keloids.’ The result of this kind of scarring is that, the skin becomes uneven and loses its smooth texture. Among the treatments for acne scars are Laser Therapy, Microdermabrasion, chemical peeling, etc. Considering the risks involved in chemical peeling, I advise - Veg Peeling treatments, to minimize acne scars. Some home remedies may also help. However, these home remedies for scar removal should be carried out after the acne condition has subsided. If there are no pimples, acne or rash, use a facial scrub. Mix rice powder with curd and apply on the face. Rub gently on the skin with small circular movements, especially on the areas with acne marks. Then leave it on for five minutes and wash off with plenty of plain water. Or, mix oats with egg white and apply on the face. When it dries, wet it with water and gently rub the skin the same way. Wash off with plain water. Do these scrub treatments twice a week

A face mask may also be used once or twice a week. Mix 3 teaspoons oats with egg white and one teaspoon each of curd and honey. Apply on the face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after half an hour. Dried and powdered lemon and orange peels or

ground almonds can also be added to the pack. If there is any dryness after undergoing these treatments, take two teaspoons curd, add a pinch of Turmeric (Haldi) and apply daily on the face, washing it off after 15 minutes. This not only softens the skin, but also helps acne and marks. Dark patches or blemishes may be due to many reasons, like hormonal imbalances. Sun-exposure is an important factor, as it increases the production of melanin, the natural colouring matter. Repeated exposure to the sun causes the patches to appear on the skin. Pigmented patches are also common on aging skin and may develop during the menopausal years. Dark patches may even appear during pregnancy. Chloasma is a condition of pigmentation which is usually associated with pregnancy and involves the upper cheeks, nose and forehead. In fact, it is sometimes called the ‘pregnancy mask.’

A word of warning - Never pick pimples or blackheads with the nails. The first aspect of the treatment is sun protection with the application of sunscreens with a high SPF. If the skin is dry, a sunscreen lotion should be applied. For normal to oily skin or combination skin, a sunscreen lotion is more suitable. Sunblock creams of higher SPF are also available. The sunscreen should be applied about 20 minutes before sun-exposure, to allow it time to be absorbed by the skin. It should be reapplied if you are in the sun for longer than an hour at a stretch. The effects of the sun increase near water bodies and snow, as they reflect the sun’s radiation. Therefore, it becomes all the more important to protect the skin and re-apply the sun screen after 20 to 30 minutes. A home-care routine is also advised, using specialized cleansers and products which help revitalize the skin and remove the pigmentation. As far as home remedies are concerned, we recommend the use of facial scrubs twice a week. You can buy a facial scrub or mix rice powder with curd and use as a facial scrub. Apply it on the dark patches and rub gently on the skin with tiny circular movements. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply daily only on the dark patches. Wash off after 15 minutes with plain water. Twice a week, apply face mask. Mix 3 teaspoons oatmeal with one teaspoon each of honey, curd and lemon juice, or egg white. Apply on the entire face, avoiding the lips and area around eyes. Wash it off after half an hour. Fruit masks may also help Hyperpigmentation. Mix ripe papaya pulp with grated cucumber, tomato pulp and oranges. Apply the pack daily on the face and wash it off after half an hour. The pack not only lightens skin colour, but also revitalizes the skin and removes dead epithelial cells.

MAGNIFICENT

CEILINGS by Shalini Jena

W

hen it comes to the floor we walk over, tiles or floor designs are the only creativity we can think of. But when it comes to ceilings, sky is the limit! You can do anything and everything you want to do. Colour them, shape them and play with them like clay in the hands of small children. To many, a ceiling is just a ceiling - a large, flat surface, few of feet above our heads. However, we can do a lot of things beyond imagination with the wall above our heads, which unlike the other sides are not only untouched but are also easiest to maintain. Here are some ceiling designs recommended by the creative designers –

I N T E R I O R

Conventional ceiling This is the standard issue, ‘Plain Jane’ version of ceilings. It is essentially, a wall laid on its side and then covered with drywall or plaster. Usually 8 feet high to fit with standard construction material sizes, conventional ceilings have an advantage of being easy to build and very functional. Building a conventional ceiling 10 feet high will make a room feel larger. They are found in most households and can be made distinctive by painting them according to taste. Grace your plain ceiling with wooden work and lighting.

Cathedral ceiling This is a high sloping ceiling attached directly to the roof trusses, rising all the way to the top of the house. Cathedral ceilings angle up to a central peak, providing a spectacular design patterns, as well as an open and spacious feel to a room or a home entrance. While visually attractive, cathedral ceilings may have a few downsides. Since the ceiling panels are connected directly to the roof trusses, the trusses need to be wide enough (usually 12 inches) to allow adequate insulation and ventilation behind the ceiling. If trusses are too thin, it will be impossible to properly insulate the house. Conversely, if the gaps are repleted with insulation, there will be no space to allow for proper ventilation behind the ceiling. Also, the height of a cathedral ceiling itself makes it difficult (or expensive) to paint or change light fixtures. Finally, the high ceiling and the associated large volume of air can make moving the air for heating or cooling the home an expensive proposition.

Shed ceiling It is similar to a cathedral ceiling in that the ceiling line slopes up at one end, but the other side of the peak is a solid vertical wall to the floor. The rise angle of the ceiling is not as steep as a cathedral ceiling and shed ceilings are usually built with an attic above them for insulation and ventilation.

Suspended ceiling It is a flat ceiling, built underneath an existing ceiling. It consists of a metal grid work suspended from the existing ceilings, with panels built of lightweight acoustic material laid into the grid. Suspended ceilings are great at hiding old ceilings, wiring, plumbing or mechanical fixtures. Since the ceiling panels are not fastened but just laid into a grid, a suspended ceiling also provides easy access to the hidden wiring or plumbing behind them. They usually have an industrial appearance and they lower the original height of the ceiling by at least 6 inches, which can be a problem in basements where suspended ceilings are often used.

Vaulted, Tray and Cove ceilings

While choosing a ceiling type for your home, take the cost of heating and cooling into consideration. High ceilings increase the amount of heat needed in the winter because heat rises. Lower ceilings increase the cost of cooling because the heat is trapped in a lower area. Fans, windows and vents can be incorporated into the design to improve heating and cooling efficiency and decrease heating and cooling costs. Before making any structural changes, it is advisable to consult a structural engineer or an Architect.

I N T E R I O R

Considerations

All these ceiling types provide a transitional element between the vertical walls of a room and the horizontal ceiling. As decorative elements, they provide increased volume or height to a room. Vaulted ceilings arch up from the walls to the ceiling to furnish a high, spacious feeling. They look good and supply enough light inside the house. They also allow for skylights which are difficult to make under the conventional flat walls. Tray ceiling lines supposedly resemble a tray turned upside down. They have an angle around the perimeter where the ceiling meets the walls. Often, they have a flat ceiling centre with the sides sloping in from the walls, to join the level ceiling surface. However, tray ceilings are sometimes built with a series of stepped square edges going from the wall to the flat part of the ceiling. Cove ceilings have a rounded concave surface joining the walls and the flat ceiling. The curve is gentle and totally smooth, creating a rounded look which feels soft and very natural. Some homes utilize other types of trim or moulding around the cove.

Journey to the entertainment industry – It has been a wonderful journey so far. Before stepping in Bollywood, I was just another girl with ambitions to make it big and do something which I always wished to. Before stepping in Bollywood, I was an ordinary college student, participating often in extra-curricular activities. As a student, I was always interested in sports and public speaking.

Gul Panag as an individual – I am glad that I have a life, I always dreamed of. Beyond Bollywood, it’s a different life altogether with sheer passion towards travelling, automobiles and gadgets.

Movie which you enjoyed acting in, the most – I love what I do. I think every movie I acted in, will remain special in many ways than one. It’s always a combination of all the movies I did in the past, which helped me reach to a position where I am now in the film industry. Everyone has been extremely supportive and encouraging over the last decade. If you ask me to pick up one movie, that changed my life, then I would choose – ‘Turning 30.’

Success is what matters at the end of the day and I always feel happy about it. Nothing else is more satisfying than making your dreams come true with all the efforts.

Your future projects and movies – I am very choosy and think well before I sign for a movie. My upcoming movie – Love At First Life, will be a comedy, directed by Rajat Kapoor.

Your opinion on fitness – I think being fit and healthy should be the priority and I urge everyone to include it in daily lifestyles. I know that staying healthy is a lifelong struggle. Not just for an actor or an actress, but every individual should inculcate this habit.

The adventure girl in me – I recently went hiking in the greater Himalayas and came back enthralled. It allows me to view my work and life in general, from a whole new perspective each time I return.

DON’T SPOOF! BE YOURSELF! By Shalini Jena

W

orld is a small place to live in. And life is a short period of breathing and living. A hundred years is still scanty for beings like us, who have the most clued up mind ever. And in this short time of our standing who do you think are you kidding by being someone else, by being someone who is not you? Well it’s not. Because as mentioned above, the world is a small place to live in and in this pocket size globe of mine there are a lot of people I have met, enjoyed with, shared my pain and happiness and then forgotten. But each time I think of them and many others, a wondering hits me down to the fact on how many genuine people have I been encountered with.

I use a Galaxy!

I use an iPhone!

I kn o w t h e Ambanis!

Let it be people we meet in our workaday or family or the arena of making new friends - social networking, everywhere if there is one thing that pulls down the image of a person, then it is the faux attitude. If I can’t afford a designer wear sari then I don’t have to. If I don’t have a great job to swank a luxury convertible which would eventually lead the vigilance into raiding property, then in that case too, I don’t have to. If I am a daughter of a government employee and I don’t have the pocket money to buy myself plenty accessories or garbs, then again I don’t have to! Now, in the aforesaid mentioning, there is difference between passion and show off. Passion is an innate activity that at some time, may lead to show off and show off is an activity based on the de JULY, 2011 47

sire and self-involuntary instinct to prove something which may or may not have / are. In simple words, passion is a good character and show off is a pitiable trait, which not only leads to demeaning, but also gives a bad tag line to one’s self-respect.

Now here is an interesting fact. When we converse with people, there is one side within us which is honest and the other side which wants to be something that we have always wanted to be and somehow we tend to blend both of them and give that person standing in front of us an impression about us which is only half true. No, this is not a mind blowing fact. The fact is that a human can never ever be entirely honest about self to another human. And that is natural and need not be complained about. But honesty is not a criterion for liking a person, the idea of being oneself is. Many have this weird habit of lying about anything. You ask them, ‘How was your day?’ They tell you, ‘Bad! I had a bad accident!’ And some ‘bad’ accident without a scratch isn’t it? You ask them, ‘Did you pour dirt water in the sink?’ Even if it does no harm, they deny. But you know what, this is what they are. Now, if they start faking around and pretend to be honest, then it wouldn’t suit them, would it? Well that doesn’t mean they should keep on lying. But, the pretence to be honest is lot more pain in the caput than lying itself. To illustrate this without confounding, there is a personal experience I would like to share. I had a friend of mine at school, who like most of us, was a very simple, neighbourhood girl. A year later I was waiting for the town bus to arrive when someone tapped on my shoulder and before I could turn around and see who it was, two long hands fortified my bodice and the moment I looked up I saw a female in shorts and strapless blouse (in the bus stand) and hey, (You would have guessed by now who I am talking about) it was her! We greeted each other in the usual girly fashion of hugging, holding hands restlessly and embarrassingly screaming. I finally asked her to take a walk down the nearest coffee shop to which she gladly agreed, but later changed my mind and hired an auto. As we sat there reminiscing old times, I could see her attention drifting to cute guys, her blush when she knew people noticed her, but as we talked for hours, I could not help but pity for what had become of her. She was no more the cool sassy I knew at school, she was a wannabe who was trying too hard to be the archetypal descended of another wannabe, whose stature made people notice everything about her except the person who she really was. When it comes to fake attitude there are types too. No two leaves in the woods are same. So to make this all more interesting, here is a briefed study on two main types of fake attitudes The intellectual stand - We all want to impress others. Let it be good sense of humour or passionate talking or the most famous of all, the intellectual stand. I have a better description for this category. They are called jack of all trades and master of none and can never be. They have this habit of babbling. If you are talking about online courses accredited by Oxford, they will start with the fraudulent schemes coming up. If you talk about buying a new dishwasher, they will come up with companies which sell excellent scrubbers. If you tell them how badly 48

I have a better description for this category. They are called jack of all trades and master of none and can never be. They have this habit of babbling. you want to learn website designing, they will tell how excellent they are at speaking HTML language. Such people assume good impression when people raise their eyebrows. What they wouldn’t notice is the hidden smirk that comes a few minutes later. Do you say this is natural? Well, I will tell you where it all goes wrong. They are still in their high school classroom where good grades mean they were ‘intelligent’ and have lived in that misconception for this long, especially in the contemporary world where people don’t talk books. I don’t think such people ever change. They can be great company to be with, but at the end they do have this ability to make people flee on their heels. The phony look - If the lead makes you think I am talking about physical

TULIP

SPECIAL

appearance, then you are right as well as wrong. It goes like this that the phony look is the commonest of all fake attitudes. Now if you have seen girls in short skirts and shorter tops, then you will notice that many of them are dead uncomfortable with their attire. You will see them pulling their skirts down at sporadic moments or trying too much to avoid keeping their hands awkwardly in front of their dresses. I tell you what, I do not disdain girls who wear minis and shorts, as it is

Trendy bags or shorter clothes with large price tags, do not make what you are. Nobody can ever judge you by what you carry. their lives and they got every right to live it their ways. But hey, without digressing to my feminist issues, the point is - attiring in a manner that suits you and your lifestyle. Clothes don’t make you. Trendy bags or shorter clothes with large price tags, do not make what you are. Nobody can ever judge you by what you carry. Yeah, but you keep up this bogus attitude, then the judgment is worse than it sounds. Such people need not worry. All you need is to be yourself. It is even simpler than it sounds!

Why is being what you are so difficult to handle? If a person doesn’t like you, then it can never be any big deal. You do not want everyone’s company, do you? And not everyone is perfect and doesn’t have to be. The other part of phony look is the pretence to be someone else. Girls who assume that attitude can draw them attention, others whose sweet words are as made up as sugar and guys who think charm means wannabe talk, show how cool they are. Why is being what you are so difficult to handle? If a person doesn’t like you, then it can never be any big deal. You do not want everyone’s company, do you? And not everyone is perfect and doesn’t have to be. When people like you for what you are and dislike you for what you are, that is when you make the best friends of your life. So the motto of this article to all who are living happy lives out there, here is a tiny advise – ‘Life is as tiny as a bubble. The moment it bursts, love, memories and life itself vaporize. So live this small life full size, without pretence and vice.’ JULY, 2011 49

Traditionally this party should be hosted by the patents of the bride, usually at their residence. But looking at more casual and friendly societies around us, the rules for this event are not fixed, these days. These days, anyone can host an engagement revel. Among some families, this event is planned by the groom to make a proposal to his bride – although everyone is sure of the answer, before he does this. If this party will serve the purpose of introducing the two families to one another, it would be a good idea to have a live ice-cream counter. Someone who knows the guests better, should be assigned the job of welcoming them to the event and making the introduction.

Important DOs and DON’Ts Who should host the engagement ceremony? Traditionally, parents of the bride. But today, the bride and groom can host it by themselves or a friend or other family member can undertake the hosting duties.

What kind of event should it be? This depends on your budget and personal lifestyle. From a formal gathering with printed invitations, to a causal backyard barbeque or anything in between. A cocktail party with hors d’oeuvres is always in exciting.

Who should be invited? You will certainly want to invite your two families, so they can get to know one another. It’s a bad etiquette to invite anyone, other than those who will definitely be invited for the wedding. So it’s good to limit the guest list to those very close to you. Typically, guests who would have to travel are not invited, as you will already be asking them to travel for the wedding. (The exception to this rule would be the parents of the bride or groom).

When should the engagement happen? Among those families whose engagements last for a little longer duration, engagement parties are held one to three months prior to marriage date. For the rest, it can be held anytime around six months earlier to wedding.

Should you expect gifts for them? The announcement of an engagement inevitably gets some guests thinking about the gifts for the couple.

Entertainment sessions Entertainment always enhances the nature of any event, although it’s not a necessity. A quality sound system with lively and upbeat music is good enough to make the guests happier. If your budget allows, you can hire an orchestra, as they offer pleasant background music. If you would prefer something livelier, hire a DJ or maybe a Mariachi band. You could even organize a karaoke and invite your guests to sing along. Set aside a floor for dancing and ask the guests to dedicate a dance move or two, to the newly engaged 50 JULY, 2011

couple. It’s a fantastic way to prepare you for the wedding. Your choice of entertainment should match the scenario and the theme of the party. Therefore, make sure you choose entertainment sessions which match your tastes and make you feel more comfortable.

What kind of food should you serve? Choice of food depends once again, on the tone and theme of your party and of course the number of guests you are inviting and their normal food habits and likes. For a cocktail party, a selection of hors d’oeuvres and finger foods are appropriate. A sit-down dinner may appear peculiar, so if you plan to invite more than ten guests for dinner, you may have to consider hiring caterers, if you don’t want to spend the entire evening washing the utensils in the kitchen. Hiring staff to serve food and drinks takes the pressure off you, but if that’s not within your budget, you may ask family members or friends to help out. It’s a great way to meet and mingle. For a more casual affair, choose a buffet, barbeque or a potluck. Party shops stock a fabulous array of disposable cutlery and plates these days and they will save you time at the kitchen. If you choose to hold your engagement at a restaurant or a hotel, you can plan the meal accordingly to your tastes and budget. The catering manager can also help you select a menu which is within your price range.

Alcohol, beverages or fruit juices? Just like food, your choice of drinks depends on the style of party you are arranging. Unless you are having a formal cocktail party and intend to serve cocktails and mixed drinks, most people steer clear of spirits these days. They usually involve preparation. You need to provide a variety of different mixers and they can work out to be very expensive. A couple of good quality brands or beer, good quality wine (white and /or red- the choice is yours) and a range of mineral waters and soda generally satisfies most palates. A self-serve bar works well at an informal gathering, or if you prefer, you can hire professional staff to prepare and serve drinks. And dint forget the champagne if you intend to have toasts.

Engagement party favors Engagement party favors aren’t necessary, but if you would like to present your guests return gifts, then something with the date of your wedding is a good idea. A decorative tag or sticker with your wedding date can be attached to a small scented candle, a gift box filled with chocolates and cookies or scented soaps can be presented.

SPECIAL

How to make him feel Special

By Shalini Jena

All those mushy talk, those flashy smiles and exclusive dates may result to be a backfire tragedy when it comes to making you feel special. The cheesy stuff they do, might not work on you, but when the doer is you, it totally overwhelms them with gratitude. So let’s start the 10 ways by musing over how to make that happen!

Surprise them! We all like surprises and this includes men as well. They love to make us feel on the top of the world, but deep inside they too become delirious when caught off guard, for a change. Make sure that whatever you plan is not all gooey and emotional. Better do something fun for him! Like, get his favourite game tickets or plan with his friends to take him for a surprise hangout.

Food + Notes If someone said that a man’s heart is through his stomach, then no one is bluffing here! A romantic, dinner is a great idea, but let’s say you have work to do. Then have a take-a-note habit. Like different colours mean different things, a lot of men appreciate that attention you give. Stick a note on his fridge that guides him to his favourite cake. It’s fun, sweet and makes them happier to know that you always care.

52 JULY, 2011

Keep Them Safe! Now, none of this can be universal. But come on, no matter how much your guy loves you and knows that you love him back, your all too sweet demeanour might test his ego if you run your tongue around babbling about your special moments with others. So care to keep those moments just between the two of you, because most men are pretty sensitive of their ego.

Avoid The Usual Bugging Please avoid blaming him too much, for being careless on displaying emotions. In fact, a funny thing is, you get it more if you are less worried about it. By doing this, you let him know that there is no pressure on him for any reason, whatsoever. And this is one magic trick that backfires. During the rose period of a relationship they make you feel like the most wonderful happening in their life, but later they get too used to it and take you for granted. But you got to understand that it is a good thing, as it means that they know you will always be there.

See That He Talks

Fantasy!

Let him talk for a change too. At times, we are so busy with our lives that we just don’t stop and think about the fact of how their day went. They don’t like to be asked too many questions. So just ask them how their day was and let them talk.

Fulfil your fantasies with him! Do keep spicing things up, in your relationship. It sure is your part to do. Maybe you have a bowl beside the bed that you both write your fantasies in and then take turns fulfilling them over time. This can be a ton of fun for both of you!

Pamper Please... When he is sick, treat him like a baby. All men are tough and can handle anything until they come down with cold or flu. Just like Nora took care of Barney in HIMYM and that made him feel so special that he was smitten by her! It is important to let him know that it’s fine to be vulnerable and that you can be the stronger one, for once. They will really appreciate this and will undoubtedly create a deeper connection.

Give Him A Break! Make sure he knows that you are fine with him, having his occasional guy time without having to make a big deal about it. It can be anything, from playing Hockey or Cricket with his best friends or celebrating an all boy’s night to hanging out alone and having his own happy-time whenever he wants to.

Stop Getting Upset

Just Say It

Don’t get sad all the time. We all can be insensitive, at times. At such situations, words which we could never mean, take shape and the best thing to do is to wait and sort this out in a composed and a thoughtful manner. This makes him realise your love for him and a bitter fight that could have worsened things, actually turns out to be a special moment.

I love you! These three words are magical and human race owns a lot to the person who first thought of it and said it. It’s like a national phrase which means that you care for that someone special. Love has deep emotions which can be portrayed in different modes. Sometimes, it is expressed taciturnly and other times, aloud. Either way, men might act all cavalier, but they care much more than women do. And they love it when you care to say these magical three words.

Back to College!

ollege days are one of the most unforgettable times in a student’s life for a combination of reasons. Many students are happy on knowing about their college re-opening, while there are others who have bitter memories connected to this phase. So, it’s both a good and a not-sogood feeling for college goers. Many prefer life beyond just sitting in a classroom for hours together and listening to lectures, but there are others who love the feeling of waking up early in the morning with an urge to reach college as early and leave as late as they can. A fine line is drawn between reluctance and enthusiasm, fun and seriousness, indolence and avidness, but at times, a combination of all these factors. What makes college life boring, yet interesting? Let’s hear it from a few below ‘ It is a wonderful feeling after getting back home from a strenuous exercising at the gym. The change in atmosphere, friends, the special place at the college canteen where your ideas are generated out of which, most of them are insane. At times the huge summer gap gets even broader than it is supposed to be. Getting back to a place where you always belong holds a special place’ – Amir Khan, Badruka College. ‘Holidays have always been fun. But after the college re-opened, the fun added on. There is always something exciting happening in college everyday and you get to meet a lot of new people. While in college, I am always occupied in either listening to music or to the new gossips or struggling hard to complete stressful assignments. No matter what, at least I always wait for a new day in college, be it even after having a bad day or a catfight with friends’ – Saloni Gulati, St. Francis.

54 JULY, 2011

‘Well, my summer break was fun! I travelled a lot and met my cousins too, so I had a very nice time on the whole. In fact, I was waiting for the college to re-open. But when it is open, I now find it a bit boring. But now, I am getting used to the routine. So now I feel that my life is back to normal and I am liking it’ – Prerna Kulkarni, St. Francis. ‘It feels like I got a new life altogether. There is more to life than just eating and sleeping’ – Aashita Agarwal, St.Francis.

Opinions from

Students

I love my college! It’s amazing to get back to college after summer holidays, as I get to meet all my friends where I have a gang of friends. Now that I am in my third year, I want to create fun filled moments before I walk out as a graduate. Getting caught while eating chewing gums, playing music in the class, King Kong Hi-5s are a few memories, I will always remember’ – Siddanti Bodhu, St. Francis.

‘College seems too hectic. But it will get back to normal soon. A second year student like me will be excited about the IDEs. Hopefully, it will be a good experience and I am happy that I am back on schedule. Summers are unbelievable’ – Abeer Rasheed Khan, St.Francis.

‘Feels good to go back to a routine and hanging out with friends everyday’ – Roshni Banerjee, St. Francis.

‘It feels amazingly awesome and out of the world, to find myself occupied with everything around. Have been waiting for a long time! The best part is you meet all your friends and get a chance to bunk classes and trouble the lecturers’Roshni Ahuja, St. Francis.

Together As ONE

- By Aditya Tej

Love and compassion for kids and an urge to dedicate and attain something exceptional for them, are what inspired them to reach where they are today. Owners of Kids Avenue boutique and co-sisters - Reema Agrawal, Rakhee Agrawal and Shalini Agrawal, talk to Tulip about their magical bonding among them, a dream they lived unitedly and turning it into a reality…

I

t all began during a vacation in China. Though being happy with our lives, we always had a thought of doing something for kids. The idea was tempting and after a shopping spree by the streets, we made up our minds to establish a concept store in Hyderabad, dedicating only for kids. The duration of this dream project lasted longer, but sooner, Kids Avenue was successfully launched in 2010. Through this journey, we held continuous support and backing up from our husbands in all the prospects required and would like to thank them for the same. However, the journey has just begun and yet to achieve a lot more. We also contrive to establish this organization, beyond Hyderabad in near future.

About Family – We three are more like friends, than co-sisters to each other, sharing tough and easy times in lives, staying together as a family and working together. Having similar choices and opinions on professional terms, 56 JULY, 2011

we share a tremendous rapport. We turned over to a level of understanding, where do not complain about things. We have always had unending support and encouragement from our husbands, in all the aspects of life, right from when we got married. Reema : ‘I have two sons (Dhruv and Arnav) and I am totally enjoying my motherhood. We love attending parties and socializing. My husband always advises me not to get stuck in whatever I have in life and to keep moving ahead and dream more.’ Rakhee : ‘I want to thank my parents for bringing to me position where I am today. I have two daughters (Vedika and Aanika). I feel extremely blessed to be a part of their lives, as a mother and the days when they were born, will always remain unforgettable. Ten years from when I got married and to now, there have been arrant balance and harmony among us.’

Shalini : ‘I am blessed with one son (Dheer). I was a simple, reserved, family oriented girl who was always into being a topper, during schooling and college days. Marriage changed my life from good to better and I owe a lot to my husband, who inspired me to do anything, that I always wished to.’ Our passion towards travelling influenced us a lot - We revel traveling which brings the best out of us. And as good as that, we enjoy shopping. Reema states – ‘Over the recent four years, we have been paying a pilgrimage visit to Shirdi and Haji Ali Dargah, once a year. My nearly memorable travelling moments are connected to Istanbul. It’s a place I can holiday anytime, over and over, for it possesses wonderful historical monuments and mosques. Half Europe and half Asia, the city has a balancing combination of cultures, traditions and rituals belonging to these two continents. I have a different taste when it comes to travelling and I prefer exploring places by my own. Journeying to Beirut (Lebanon) is a dream and I hope to fulfill it in near future. Further, holidaying moments at Chicago for more than a month with family and friends, are still anew. We make it a point to sojourn a new place or two, each year.’ With a subtle smile, Reema continues – ‘Journey to Mauritius will always remain special. The undersea walk was a thrilling adventure with my husband.’

Shalini enjoins – ‘I have not travelled much, although I visited New Zealand seven years before. The place almost seems imaginary and unreal. A land of eternal peace and calmness, raw and natural beauty, it offers the best of adventurous sports to tourists. I loved my stay at Auckland.’ Almost always, we have our lunch together, whether it’s going out or having it at work. Beyond Hard Rock Café and Syn, Reema and Rakhee say – ‘We enjoy south Indian thalis at Southern Spice and Abhiruchi, Chutneys for north Indian and Aromas of China for Chinese cuisines. ’ ‘I frequent Little Italy at times, says Shalini. The best places to shop at, are – GVK One and Inorbit malls. ‘Traveling is more than a passion for me. Packing bags may seem boring, but the entire span of journey helps me remember only the best things, after I come back. My best friend lives in San Francisco and visit there quite often. Singapore is a spectacular holiday spot and every place is beautiful there. Learning how to fly a plane and flying it for an hour was the most adventurous activity I made and a great experience I will always remember’, says Rakhee.

On Devotion, Spirituality, Fitness and Lifestyle – We believe in Karma, oneness and pray all Gods. We also believe that there is a constant Godly force existing within us, all through, indicating that there is nothing to be worried about in life, when we look for Him. JULY, 2011 57

HOW TO DO PAPER QUILLING Q

KINSHIP

uilling is an art of creating decorative designs from thin strips of curled paper. This age-old art of paper quilling has been around since Renaissance which dates back to about 3 to 4 centuries during when the nuns used small edges trimmed from the Bible pages to create simple, yet beautiful form of artistry. It was an art practiced by ladies in the 18th century and was one of the techniques that young girls of wealthy households were required to learn as part of their studies. The colonists brought the art with them when they emigrated to America. Most of the quilled paper designs which have been preserved are of religious artwork. The art of quilling did die out for a time, but has recently become a very popular craft. This is because of the low cost of the paper supplies needed to make different designs to decorate invitations and boxes and especially pages of scrapbooks, with the increased interest in scrapbooking.

YOU WILL NEED • Strips of paper (⅛ or ¼ inches wide) of varying colors • A slotted quilling tool, • A drop of white glue on a piece of scrap paper and • A toothpick. HERE’S HOW Insert the end of the paper into the slot of the quilling tool 1. Turn the slotted tool towards you. Place your thumb or index finger at the very tip of the slotted tool - this will prevent the paper from slipping off the tool. Use the other fingers to guide the strip of paper so that it rolls into an even plug (called a tight coil). 2. When done, turn the slotted tool a quarter turn away from you. Pull the plug out of the slotted tool. Hint - the coil comes off the tool neatly if you pull the coil off the tool and not pull the tool out of the coil. 3. Use a toothpick to apply a small smidgen of glue onto the free end of the tight coil. Use your finger / a clean toothpick / forceps to press the free end onto the coil. 4. When dry (about 5 seconds), you will have a tight coil. These can be used to make flowers, grapes, eyes and more. DO HEED THE TIPS Always tear your quilling strips before using them, do not cut the paper. The tearing feathers the edge of the paper so the seam blends when you glue the end to hold the shape in place. The needle tool will enable you to produce a fine hole in the center of your tight circles which the slotted tool will not. The start of the paper in the circle will be bent if you use the slotted tool. Always dampen the end of the quilling paper (with your tongue) before rolling on the needle tool. This will make the paper bind together at the outset instead of slipping off the needle. This actually, is the basic trick to use the needle tool. Always roll your quilling paper as close to the tip of the needle tool as possible. You will also have the tightest circle when working at the tip of the needle.

The SLS AMG will also adapt the feature of wing doors that will swing open upwards on gas struts. The doors must be closed manually as AMG engineers decided against autoclosing systems because the systems would have added 90 pounds to the car. In case of a roll-over, the doors can be fully detached to allow the occupants to leave the vehicle. Nine exclusive paint shades will be available, including two matte finishes. LED head and tail lamps will help make sure the car is visible at all times. Inside, the AMG SLS is clearly airplane inspired in its cockpit design. The car has a long bonnet, the passenger compartment is close to the rear axle and the rear of the car is short. Nappa leather, real metal trim and optional real carbon fiber help set the interior apart from traditional offerings. The performance highlights start under the long, shapely hood. An entirely new intake manifold system, restructured valve gear and camshaft and a de-throttled exhaust system are responsible for the performance boost. 9.5 x 19 inch front and 11 x 20 inch rear wheels wrapped in SLS AMG specific tires help put the power to the ground. With this powertrain, the SLS AMG will accelerate to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds before topping out at about 197 mph.

Feminine

Floral Fragnances D

ip into the season with a fragrance that is quintessentially summer. Embrace the sweetsmelling scents which bring you nature in a bottle. This season look for a refreshing fragrance with notes of lotus lily, creamy musk sans fruity melons, pineapples and mint leaves with an oceanic aroma. For the perfect summer fragrances, first off, it should be light and crisp. A mélange of fruits and flowers would be perfect. Sweetness is astaple but it should not be heavy or cloyingly sweet. Next, add hints of musk, amber and patchouli. These notes are what make scents more exciting. A sprinkle here and there of musky sweetness leaves a very sensual trail. You don’t want your perfume to evaporate into thin air after an hour or so, don’t you? Floral perfumes are those fragrances are dominated by one or several types of flower notes. These perfumes are mostly feminine and popular with women. Floral perfumes represent the essence of love and romance and are not only the oldest fragrances but the most popular too. Floral perfumes can be single floral fragrances with one single flower scent or several blended together to produce a unique scent. Here are some perfumes to inspire your collection of summer fragrances.

64 JULY, 2011

CALVIN KLEIN ETERNITY Eternity Summer Limited Edition for 2011 is inspired by the sunny meadows of wild flowers and gentle breeze to awaken the memories of light and warm summer days. The composition opens with notes of lily of the valley, violet and coriander. The heart includes a bouquet of gardenia, jasmine and lotus, settled at the base of musk, mimosa and fig tree.

RALPH COOL Ralph Cool is a like a bunch of summer fruits. There’s watermelon, kiwi and lots of apples! It has a floral-aquatic appeal – such freshness that reminds you of the summer rains in June. It also contains cucumber peels, lemon notes and the usual sensual wood accords, musk and vetiver. Ralph Cool is more of a sporty fragrance and perfect for someone who has an active lifestyle.

FASHION TOMMY GIRL

BURBERRY BRIT

Tommy Girl - Summer is a limited edition inspired by blooming flowers and freshness of water, which glitters and shines in warm summer days. Calming notes line up and resemble the first fragrance of the house, but softened and sophisticated, perfect for summer. It’s beautiful red flacon with a cap decorated with white details hides a fine composition which reminds us of the scent of freshly picked flowers.

Burberry Brit is a sexy, eccentric perfume with touches of lime, icy pear and green almond. It also has hints of white peony, sugared almond, mahogany wood, amber, vanilla beans and tonka beans. Burberry Brit is a fragrance that keeps the tradition but with a modern sound, it brings the English irony and English dignity. It opens with fresh notes of green lemon, frosted pear and white almond.

PAUL SMITH ROSE L’AIR DU TEMPS NINA RICCI The floral fragrance with light and airy notes describes perfectly the successor of the famous fragrance by the house of Nina Ricci.

Paul Smith Rose perfume is a fresh floral fragrance for women. It comes with a blend of different scents like Turkish rose oil, green tea along with light sparkling smell of Magnolia and violet flowers. The perfume receives its further structure and depth with fine touch of Cedar. It is a great fragrance for summer.

COACH Fresh, charming and elegant, Coach Eau de Toilette Summer Edition celebrates modern beauty with a wink of playfulness, a heart of pretty genet and an impression that wraps you in smooth, comfortable warmth. Playful fruity notes of mandarin, fresh raspberries and luscious guava nature print, impart a joyfully juicy sparkle. Flirty freesia, marigold and violet leaves round out the fruits with layers of light texture.

ISSEY MIYAKE L’EAUD’ ISSEY SUMMER The limited edition L’Eau d’Issey Summer Eau de Toilette is inspired by the freshness and purity of water and is reminiscent of a crisp rainforest waterfall in aroma and design. Notes of Lotus, Cyclamen and Freesia dance around rose water and white lily; woods and musk notes deliver an earthy base. This sweet, fresh fragrance is sparkling and luminous like the ocean in July, but it’s use can take you well beyond hotter months for a burst of summer feeling through the winter.

GIORGIO ARMANI ACQUA DI GIO POUR HOMME A resolutely masculine fragrance born from the sea, the sun, the earth, and the breeze of a Mediterranean island. Transparent, aromatic and woody in nature Aqua Di Gio Pour Homme is a contemporary expression of masculinity, in an aura of marine notes, fruits, herbs and woods.

DKNY BE DELICIOUS Juiced Pink through and through, it begins with effervescent pink grapefruit and bright Freesias. Its exuberant floral heart includes lily of the valley and pink rose petals, an especially alluring and playful combination when matched with notes of sweet pea and apple blossom. In the heart of the fragrance, a soft layer of palisander wood and vetiver mist mingle with a whisper of white musks, enhancing this delicate scent with a lasting, blissful touch of pleasure.
