It’s February, and love is in the air — so are basketballs! While the Marine Corps Exchange offers everything for your Valentine, the programmers at the Cpl Terry L. Smith Gymnasium are offering two free throw tournaments and hosting, along with the Fort Myer Fitness Center, the Capital Classic Basketball Tournament beginning February 13. So it you love basketball, we have you covered! And this is just the beginning. There are more basketball events scheduled for March (see below). Don’t forget Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14. Take home a bouquet of fresh roses, sold by the Marine Corps Exchange on February 12 and 13, or select from other perfect gifts to include gourmet chocolates, trendy fragrances, movie tickets, cuddly teddy bears, the latest electronics, and jewelry. See our favs on page 4. Did you know that you don’t have to be an authorized Exchange patron to purchase select items? Consumable food and beverages from the Emporium are sold to everyone, and concessionaires, such as the carpet vendor here until February 15, can sell to anyone. A Department of Defense identification card is not needed, and, if you have a DoD ID card, you need not have Exchange privileges. Lastly, do you want to learn more about love? Marine & Family Programs offers training at your location of a variety of topics to include “How To Avoid Falling for a Jerk/Jerkette” and “Married & Loving It®”. Interested in knowing more? See course descriptions at www.mccsHH.com/FAP. Speaking of the website, we’re launching a new design this month. You can also keep up with us on Facebook and Twitter, where we invite your comments on our programming and events.

Meet the SARC

Love doesn’t hurt

The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Team (SAPRT) at Henderson Hall provides an integrated response capability and system accountability for all awareness, prevention and response training, and care for adult sexual assault victims. The SAPRT facilitates victim care by coordinating medical treatment, including emergency care and tracking the services provided to victims of sexual assault from initial report through final disposition and resolution. The civilian SAPRT member is Mrs. Wendy G. Kelly (Sexual Assault Response Coordinator), located in Bldg. 12, Rm. 106. She may be reached at 703-693-4733 during business hours. There is a 24/7 Helpline at 571-205-1298. Additional resources are the SafeHelpLine for military victims of sexual assault at www.safehelpline.org and the battalion’s page at www.hqmc.marines.mil/Agencies/HeadquartersandServiceBattalion/SAPROffice.aspx.

Marine Corps Victim Advocates provide information, guidance and support to victims. They are first responders, specifically trained to respond to incidents of domestic violence or sexual assault 24/7, and they may also be contacted during working hours by anyone with questions or concerns. MCCS Henderson Hall has a Victim Advocate who is available to speak with victims of domestic abuse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you need to speak with a Victim Advocate during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 – 4:30), you can call the Family Advocacy Program at 703-614-7204 and speak with one of our Victim Advocates. If you need to speak with a Victim Advocate after regular business hours, you can call the Victim Advocacy Hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 703-693-6611. For comprehensive information on restricted and unrestricted reporting options, as well as training information, please see our website, www.mccshh.com/VAP.
