Parlapark! little big chatters

Page 1

As a big ‘’tin can telephone’’ system,

Parlapark is a project / installation about human communication, in the era of the social media, we want to vindicate the value of oral conversation, and also to learn about sound physics. Parlapark takes place in an inspiring and motivating scenario, we seek not only to share the experience of the colective construction of the project, but to share a secret, to tell a tale, to whisper, to talk, to find out about each other only using their voices and ears.

Parlapark’s project consist of 4 wood cones connected to each other by a tight string system, creating an analog network. Each one of this 4 devices are set in differents camp’s scenarios: deep in the forest, at the shore lake, above in the trees and dug on the ground. The project recreates the old game ‘’ tin can telephone’’ also known as ‘’ string telephone’’, it is a great way to understand how telephones and radio work, a string telephone is a simple yet very engaging device for children of all ages. Doing it at a giant scale will add enthusiasm and excitement at the fact that they can hear each other through the device, plus the light effects that will be displayed at night. How it works? Inside de cone, when one person talks to the diaphragm, it vibrates back and forth with the sound waves. The vibrations travel through the string by pulling the string back and forth. Therefore, the opposite cone diaphragm should start to vibrate back and forth just like the first cone is vibrating, producing sound waves. The second person can hear the sound waves and can therefore hear what the first person says. Each cone has a sound sensor, close to the diaphragm, that activates a led light that goes across each string pipe, making lights effects when a sound or noise is detected. In this way, Parlapark could also be a night light installation / game, that materializes the act of a conversation in a colored light string across the woods. Oficina Criativa

MAKING AND ASSEMBLY Wood structure option. Prototype stage: grasshopper 3D software was used to design a tongue and groove joint structure which facilitates the assembly stage. Assembling stage: After the prototype it’s ready, the cone’s structure will be made from plywood sheets and timber parts using wood cutter machines or 3D laser cutter (prefered). Parts can be assembled in situ or at the lab. Once structure it’s done, and cones are set into their chosen place, the string and pipe system are tightened and put into place, as well as the led lights and sound sensors. The diaphragms can be made from fiberglass or a metal sheet. Finally, cones are covered by stretched fabric or nylon.

DESIGN PROCESS

Spa Program

Acqua zone

(in)pluvium proposes to redeene the “spa” concept, taking back to its basics, its primary essence, a place dedicated to the experience of the senses, to relax, rest and disconnection of the everyday issues. The architectural concept can be explained through three actions: lift up from de ground, open to the sky, ll whith water. These actions deene a singular experience through a singular architecture. The project aims to be a mark in the territory, a heavy introverted concrete mass, with a strong character. An abstract place that would intensify visitor's experience estimulating the senses, this three elements (water, ground, sky) prepare and make possible our transition towards a space of relax and discontection. That's the experience that (in)pluvium wants to offer.

tipical program distribution

The concrete box lifts up from the ground and takes distance of the surroundings. It doesn't denies them, but It’s an invitation to abstract from the everyday reality and sink into an aquatic microcosm. The building is organized in two spaces, one deenes and contains the other: the matrix, and the substance that acquires its shape.

circulation + common spaces

The rst is a space closed in itself, introverted, where the spa occurs. The second is a uid space, the aquatic environment where a patch work of temperatures and depths invades the entire area, the “acqua zone”. The spa folds on itself, deening a container that, like an impluvium, lls its interior with water, draining and ooding each interstice. Below, in the released ground, it offers and gives back a public space.

SUSTAINABLE ASPECTS

DAY-SPA + ACQUA ZONE

- salt water pools as a way of PROGRAM DIAGRAM reducing chemical products as chlorine -rain water will be collected in the roof top and storaged for diferent uses - EFTE pannels in rooftop can be added or removed depending on climatic conditions -dressing rooms are individual, which allows to save a large amount of energy as each box will be conditioned only on demand
