It’s an appartment located near by the sea on the 6th floor of a seven storey building. The square meter area of the house is 30 sqm with a height of 2.80 m.

A built in wooden library/ storage space has been designed replacing the division wall forming the bedroom and the living room spaces and the partition walls of the excisted kitchen have been eliminated. The wooden installation with its openings, the white tones and the material simplicity(kitchen cabinets, bedroom, bathroom) diffuse the natural light and creates a calmer ambience in the space, harmonizing with the exterior scenery.

Redefining the Use of Mani’s Tower

Spring 2013 | Tutor : Frangou Dionisia

Oikonomea’s Tower - NW Mani, Greece

Creation Date, July 1757

Storage Space Workshop

The stone tower is characterized by a strictly prismatic and conservative structure with main entrance on the first floor. On the side of windows prominent contructions and openings were used for throwing rocks , while holes in the wall were for aiming and shooting enemies. In the upper floor, with wider windows, reception and sleeping were taking place.

The decision of constructing a bicycle shop was based on Mani’s mountain and marine wealth which encourages exploring. Both residents and visitors will be facilitated using an alternative way of transportation for their everyday needs but also for their trips.

The Flea Market Redefining

the outdoor market

Bachelor Thesis | Spring 2015

The market reflects the character of society and especially the flea market. It’s like entering a city from the back door. You realize human geography, the real standards of living and you make conclusions on social conditions.

Both my weekly visits in markets here in Athens and abroad led me in a conscious observation of similarities and differences between markets. My special admiration for outdoor markets, especially the scavenger’s flea market, challenged me to redefine its structure. In particular, highlight its charm, resolve the sellers’ needs but also translate my desires into the space when I visit one.

Benches exist within the “market spaces” favoring the interactions between sellers and visitors

25

The space used be a garage which explains its simple and flexible architecture. More particularly, the shell is characterized by elongated plan, with the narrow side (South) on the main road (Iera odos). The building is approached from South face and its center is the entrance to the space. The physical limits of the plot is clearly defined by perimeter wall with height 3m. This limit is concrete and gives the impression of a robust item excluding any visual contact with the surrounding environment. In 3.500 m2 of the free plan are lifted concrete columns of 5m, placed in a way serving the past usage of the space.

But anybody in inbound space, focuses his gaze in the space frame and shadows it creates. Thus, while the metal network used to be a supporting mechanism housing (bent sheet metal) now dominates “naked” giving the impression of a delicate flowing element that spreads and moves onto the cement floor. Actually, in this empty space, are created interesting qualities which convert basic shell in ambient and attract the visitor.Perhaps it is a rough and casual building, but at the same time is a construction that lives and changes easily, adaptable to each “housed”.

For the design of this market I visited and discussed with the sellers of the flea market and the President of the “Scavengers’ Association Enodios Hermes“ where we discussed their needs, their desires and dreams about the organization and development of the market.

After researching the needs, the tool that helped me in the virtual performance of my emotions and impressions for the markets was collage, both digital and with paper. One technique, whose outcome is akin to the heterogeneous character of elements mounted in the flea market.

26

Every bench “islet” is a gap of social and spatial games that changes by individual organizing of benches and social relations, both among sellers, but also sellers and visitors. The incoming visitor , becomes the hunter himself, chooses his own tour. The unpredictable organization converts reading the space from passive to active. The steps intertwine shaping places. The user becomes an observer of relationships, movements and cyclical commissions.

Moving Panels

Material : Polycarbonate (PC)

The sellers are able to move the panels according the sun at the time, while shadow patterns with motion are created on the ground as the day goes by.

Folding Counter

The counters in dimensions:

Length: 2m

Width: 1m

Height: 0.60m and 0.45m

Provide sellers the possibility of improvisation, as selecting two counters they mark their territory (9tm.) But also they function as storage items due to their foldingnconstruction. Each time the counters are set depending on the circumstances, changing the scenery and the social relationships that take place.

28
Water taps are built in various spots in the market so the necessary hygiene is kept.

30
The entrance allows the observation of the whole market at the first sight.

City and Athletic Center Views

Vallirana, Spain

April 2016

A new sports’center is understood as an opportunity to build a new central area, in a strategic Park stream, sustainably improving the urban environment closer. A connector with the landscape, which fosters social and ecological continuity generating a new hub of activity, a meeting place. The pavilion will allow use intensity encouraging aspects of sporting and leisure activities in the municipality. A architectural proposal inspired by the place where it is easy to imagine the courts busy and the kids playing in their environments at the exit of the school.

Planned with criteria of optimization and proximity in material resources and with passive strategies that guarantee an annual manageable energy consumption, allowing us to allocate part of the budget to improve the urban environment and its relation with the district as the humanization of Church ‘s street and the recovery of the section of stream. Nature and leisure are in a space dedicated to the designed sport using sustainable ecological and social criterias to become a sports’center in the place of the playing ground of Vallirana.
