Ways to Give Bequests

One of the most popular and simplest ways to make a planned gift is through your will or trust. You can identify a specific dollar amount, a percentage, a residual, real estate or other tangible property that would be transferred directly to our HeartLands Conservancy. Your gift is free from federal estate tax, and there is no limit to the amount that you can leave. After your lifetime, your estate is able to take a charitable donation for the full amount of your gift.

Stocks - Mutual Funds

Gifts of stock, mutual funds or real estate offer an easy and tax-efficient way to make a lasting contribution to HeartLands Conservancy. Your gift will directly support the programs and services offered at HeartLands Conservancy while allowing you to avoid capital gains tax and reducing federal income tax.

Taking the Next Steps Life Insurance

HeartLands Conservancy can be named as the sole, partial or contingent beneficiary of a life insurance policy. If the gift is for a policy paid in full you will receive an income tax deduction equivalent to the cash value of the policy.

Retirement Plan Assets

Often one of the largest parts of one’s estate, pension plan assets including IRAs and 401(k)s, can easily be directed to Heartlands Conservancy by naming the organization as a beneficiary. This income, which would be taxable to heirs, can be passed to HeartLands Conservancy without taxation.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

In addition to substantial capital gains and estate tax benefits, a charitable remainder trust could provide you, or your heirs, with a source of income for up to 20 years. After a specified period of time HeartLands Conservancy would receive the principal (asset) to further conservation work.
