Dr. Mandel’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians, If you were on campus yesterday you would have seen a tremendous mix of colors as students dressed to represent their classes. Each class was assigned a color and students went all out - - some even had dyed hair! The participation in the first day is a strong indication about the strength of the campus spirit, and I can’t wait to see how the Tigers represent their school in the coming days. You may have heard some information from your students about changes to the Wednesday and Thursday Instructional Intervention periods, also known as Advisory. Due to some change on campus, we have decided to put Advisory on a hiatus. During this break, we will take steps to gather teacher, student, and parent feedback about how our goals for Instructional Intervention and Academies should be re-incorporated. I view this process as an evolution of Instructional Intervention and Advisory, and I look forward to working with all stakeholder groups to provide meaningful support for all of our students. In the meantime, we will run a bell schedule on Wednesdays that is the same as Monday and Tuesday. There will be no added period to the end of the day. Students who have six periods should plan to be on campus until the end of the school day. On Thursdays, starting next week, In This Beat Pg 2 Announcements we will be offering a modified Instructional Intervention period from 3:00 – 3:40PM. More information about this Pg 3 Open House Bell Schedule Pg 4 Spirit Week Information will be forthcoming. Pg 5 Upcoming Events Following my message, there is some additional information from the administrative team. Please take some time to review it and to celebrate the achievements of our student athletes. Dr. David Mandel, Principal Marana High School

CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY - Attached is a flyer for the Marana PD Citizens Academy beginning Sept. 2nd through Nov. 18th. The flyer says 18 or older, however, the Officer running the program informed me they will allow students who are 16 or older with a driver's license. MPD would like some MHS Students to be able to attend. They’re hoping to get anywhere from 10-15 students. Completion of this looks great on any high school resume and it looks especially good if anyone is looking at a career in law enforcement. If you have any questions, please contact Officer Hunter at 616-6400. A 4-page application is attached with this Tiger Beat email message for your convenience. Marana High School
