Seeing these m a s s i v e me c h a n i s ms b e i n g t os s e d into the ocean like a toy in the bathtub is a ping i n m y h e a rt . I h a ve a l wa y s b e e n a t tached to these m achines, their surreal beauty i n t e g r a t e d i n t o t h e i r fu n c t i on a l e n gineering At first I was stunned the m om ents o f v i o l e nt re c y c l i n g , wa t c h i n g t h e water quickly adapt to its new under water h o u s e s . A ft e r b e i n g p u s h e d a n d s t acked like a sardine in these subways cars over t h e pa s t d e c a d e , i t i s n i c e t o s e e t he sardine actually getting one of these as its n e w s t e e l c on d o. Th e s e u n b e l i e va b le photographs were captured over the past t h r e e y ea rs from D e l a wa re t o S ou t h Carolina. Since the 1600's m an has artificially c r e a t e d re e fs . Th e M e t rop ol i t a n Transit Authority's recycling program has been i n v o l v e d for t h e p a s t d e c a d e , re t i ri ng over 2500 subways cars to the ocean to help r e bu i l d un d e r wa t e r re e fs a l on g t h e eastern seabed.
