Muscatel’s best season was 1998 when he finished sixth in the National High Points standings and second at Madison aboard the Miss Northwest Unlimited. As an owner, Muscatel has the distinction of holding the onemile straightaway speed record of 205 mph set by driver Russ Wicks aboard the Miss Freei. While Muscatel has little success on the water, off the water, he has had a big impact. He played a major role in bringing the Unlimiteds to Doha, Qatar last fall. This season, Muscatel has partnered with veteran boat builder Ron Jones Jr., who has had a hand in nearly every significant boat built over the past 20 years.

J.W. Myers’ only career win came at Madison in 2005 aboard the Miss Elam Plus. Now, the popular driver will attempt to add to that total with the Billy and Jane Schumacher-owned U-37. Myers takes over full-time driving duties from Jean Theoret this season after driving for the team much of last season. Theoret was injured in a blowover accident at Madison in the season opener and Myers subbed for the next three races, bringing home a pair of podium finishes. Myers began his career in 2003 when he was the fastest qualifier at San Diego and earned Rookie of the Year honors while driving the Leland Racing entry. He has also driven for the Llumar Window Film and USA Racing Partners teams. Billy Schumacher was one of the youngest Unlimited champions ever, making his debut at the biggest level at the age of 18. “Billy the Kid” won 17 races in his short career, which was second on the all-time list at the time of his retirement. entire inventory of Bill Wurster’s U-8 Llumar Window Film team and switched its number to 37. The team has won four races since. Part of that inventory was the Miss Budweiser “T-4” hull, the fourth turbine boat built by the team. With Bud churning out boat after boat, the T-4 fell out of favor and ran in only one race until the Llumar Window Film team purchased it in 2004.
