ollowing the successful launch of its “Les Légendes de Bugatti” (Bugatti Legends) series a few weeks ago in Pebble Beach in California, Bugatti presents the second vehicle in this exclusive edition as a world premiere at the 65th International Motor Show in Frankfurt. The French luxury car manufacturer intends the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse “Jean Bugatti” to be a celebration of the

oldest son of company founder Ettore Bugatti and his most famous creation, the Type 57SC Atlantic. Like all other five models in the Legend series, the “Jean Bugatti” is limited to three vehicles. It costs 2.28 million euros (plus tax and other charges).

15

16

“Jean Bugatti is a Bugatti legend,” says Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. “Along with his father Ettore, Jean played a critical role in shaping our brand. Jean managed to combine the artistic roots of Bugatti with his father’s innovative automotive technology, and from that developed a design which is still reflected in the brand today, finding expression in our brand values of ‘Art, Forme, Technique’.” most expensive vintage cars in the world. The Legend vehicle to be unveiled in Frankfurt is a call back to La Voiture Noire (‘The Black Car’), an Atlantic model which was driven by Jean Bugatti himself and has been lost since the Second World War. With its “Jean Bugatti” Legend model, Bugatti pays homage to a prominent figure in 20th century automotive history. Gianoberto Carlo Rembrandt Ettore Bugatti, known as Jean, was the eldest son of Ettore Bugatti and the most gifted of his four children. From the late 1920s onwards, Jean used his own structural and design ideas to exert more and more influence over the development of the company located in Molsheim, Alsace. In 1936, he took over as head of the company at the age of 27. By the time of his tragic accidental death in 1939, Jean had secured his place in automotive history thanks to his pioneering engine and chassis designs and concepts for vehicle bodies.

“The Bugatti 57SC Atlantic is an icon. For many, it is one of the most elegant and valuable sports cars in automotive history,” asserts Wolfgang Schreiber. “Jean Bugatti was a gifted car designer who knew to mirror the 1930s style of avant-garde in the design of the Bugatti car bodies,” explains Achim Anscheidt, Chief Designer at Bugatti. “His jet black La Voiture Noire was more than just Jean’s ‘private’ car. It was also his most impressive work of art – breathtakingly sporty dimensions paired with fluid, elegant lines and the unmistakeably expressive Bugatti DNA.”

One of the most extraordinary designs created by Jean Bugatti has to be the Type 57SC Atlantic, one of the most exclusive and exceptional sport coupés ever built and ranking among the

17

The technology in the Bugatti Legend Edition “Jean Bugatti” is based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, whose 8-litre W16 engine generates an enormous 1,200 PS and an unparalleled 1,500 Nm torque at 3,000 to 5,000 rpm, and which can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds. In developing the Jean Bugatti Legend Edition, the designers at Bugatti aimed to follow the concept of its historic predecessor, the Type 57SC Atlantic La Voiture Noire, as closely as possible.

were present in the Type 57SC Atlantic. As in the original vehicle, the chocolate brown is contrasted against the leather upholstery in a light beige silk color across the extended centre console. This upholstery is continued in the footwell, the outer door trim panels and the handle recesses. The color of the decorative stitching in the vehicle has been selected to complement the leather used. The

For the first time ever, the Bugatti horseshoe sparkles in precious platinum The body of the Jean Bugatti Vitesse Legend Edition is constructed entirely from jet black, clearcoated carbon fibre, making it the embodiment of elegance and the apex of technical engineering. The use of platinum lends an air of extravagance to the vehicle, with the famous Bugatti horseshoe on the front grille and the EB logo on the rear taking on a resplendent appearance. Bugatti is using this precious material for the very first time on the exterior of one of its modern models.

the doors and the cover of the rear storage compartment once again harks back to the vehicle’s legendary predecessor, given that the side silhouette of the Type 57SC was embroidered onto the doors using contrasting beige silk thread. From a bird’s eye view, the Atlantic’s silhouette is immortalised using brown thread for decorative stitching on the rear beige-coloured storage compartment.

The vehicle’s elegant, minimalist appearance is further punctuated by its wheels, which feature black diamond-cut rims. In reference to the Legend Edition’s namesake, the signature of Jean Bugatti has been lasered onto the petrol and oil cap and painted Arctic grey.

The results of this passion for detail and the desire to use the finest materials throughout the engineering process can be observed in the interior’s steering wheel as well – as for the exterior of the vehicle, the EB logo has been styled in gleaming platinum. Also staying true to the original Type 57SC is the selector lever, which is rendered in valuable rosewood.

The designers also took care to adhere to the motif of the historic La Voiture Noire as much as possible for the interior of the Vitesse Jean Bugatti Legend Edition. As such, it has been fully fitted out in leather. The Vitesse will also feature the same beige and brown tones that

Additional specific Legend Edition features in the vehicle include a leather insert embossed with the lettering “Les Légendes de Bugatti” in the extended section of the centre console, and door sill plate displaying the likeness and signature of Jean Bugatti.

A historic predecessor

“Voiture Noire” Just four Type 57SC Atlantic vehicles in total were built between 1936 and 1938. Only two of these vehicles still exist today in their original condition. The Atlantic is the most famous version of the Type 57. At the time, Jean Bugatti wanted to offer a motorsport version of the standard model, thereby resulting in production of the SC version (SC stands for supercharged). Jean Bugatti, whose skill in developing unique body designs was already proven by the Type 41 Royale, Type 55 Roadster and Type 50, was responsible for the shape and style of the Atlantic, which was intended to be extremely light and aerodynamic. Aluminium was the material chosen, giving the Atlantic its unmistakable design feature – a clearly accentuated dorsal seam which runs at a right angle from the windscreen to the rear bumper and effectively welds the two halves of the aluminium body together. This element continues to play a fundamental role in vehicles designed by Bugatti even today. As the floor of the vehicle sits between the longitudinal chassis members rather than on the frame itself, this means that the wheels are offset from the body and accentuated by enormous wings, thereby providing the car with a footwell. Seen from above, the extremely long bonnet flows to the rear of the vehicle in an oval shape, further highlighting the graceful and elegant design of the Atlantic. The specific Atlantic which served as the godfather of the Jean Bugatti Legend Edition is the legendary La Voiture Noire, which was the first of four vehicles produced in total. It belonged to Bugatti and was lost in transit amid the confusion of World War Two. The location and circumstances surrounding its disappearance are still shrouded in mystery. 20

The sport coupé was equipped with a straight-eight engine with 3,257 cm³ displacement, which produced 200 PS. However, even though it was able to reach speeds of over 200 km/h at the time, it was never entered into a race.

458 SPECIALE

24

The 458 Speciale joins the Ferrari range alongside the 458 Italia and 458 Spider and, like all special-series Ferraris, is aimed at a specific kind of owner, in this case those looking for an even more focused sports car that offers extreme driving emotions.

Whether on the road or on the track, drivers will feel immediately at one with the 458 Speciale thanks to the speed with which it responds to every input and the consequently natural control that it offers, even in extreme manoeuvres. This finelytuned handling balance enables the car to reach the highest performance levels of any Ferrari V8. Ferrari’s core engineering philosophy centres around pushing the envelope with each new model whilst maintaining the innate chassis balance and handling that ensures that even non-professional drivers can extract maximum performance and driving pleasure. With the new 458 Speciale all clients will be able to drive on the limit on the track as well as experience the exhilaration of genuinely sporty driving even at lower speeds on demanding roads.

25

The new berlinetta is, in fact, the result of the search for extreme technology, driving thrills and performance, with the application of advanced technical solutions for the powertrain, aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics. Those achievements set it apart from the 458 Italia from which it is derived, to an extent unprecedented in the previous Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia special series. The 458 Speciale’s performance is exceptional across the board, thanks to factors such as an extraordinary weight-power ratio of 2.13 kg/cv, 0-100 km/h longitudinal acceleration in 3 seconds, lateral acceleration of 1.33 g and a Fiorano lap time of 1’235. The 458 Speciale is an extremely entertaining car to drive even in less extreme situations, too: its unparalleled agility, in fact, is reflected in a response time to commands of just 0.060 seconds.

Life is Short... Other than having your first baby in your arms, picking up a PORSCHE at the Factory in Stuttgart or Leipzig is one of THE greatest joyful luxurious experiences in your life.

I

drove my first Panamera in the fall of 2009 on a PORSCHE TREFFEN to Switzerland and Lake Como, Italy. In fact, I was so impressed that I wrote an article about the experience “3,600 Miles in a 2010 PORSCHE Panamera Turbo.” Local PORSCHE dealers asked me to come speak at their Panamera unveilings. I was smitten. I have a “big” birthday coming up and I decided that it’s time to stop drooling and take action. I have owned over thirty PORSCHES in my life and I’m not saying that my 911 isn’t a fabulous car - NO - all I’m saying is when the kids were little the 911 was great. We now go out with other couples - the Panamera is perfect. This past spring on the TREFFEN to Salzburg, Austria (. . . the hills are alive with the sound of music . . .) I once 32

again drove a Panamera - this time actually a hybrid. Then, while everyone else was on the PORSCHE Factory tour in Zuffenhausen, I went upstairs at Werk Zwei to the “Exclusive and Tequipment” special order department to look at colors, leather and options. Sven Theis, one of the customer consultants was extremely helpful in guiding me through to myriad, no cornucopia, of alternatives. When I came back to the U.S. in May, I couldn’t take it anymore. I went to our local dealer, Bert Smith PORSCHE of St. Petersburg, FL and met with my friend and professional PORSCHE sales counselor, Michael O’Donnell, to help me ease that knot of anticipation in my gut. We went over different options, but the decision was clear: I had to have a Panamera GTS. Next decision: what color? I must give you a little background on the color choice. On the TREFFEN trips in the late seventies Prof. Dr.h.c. Ferry Porsche used to come to our dinners and give a brief speech to the hundred or so “Americans” that came over to pick up cars. He used to call me to his side and asked me to help interpret because he felt that his English was not as fluent and he felt better having me there. When I showed him to his car we talked about his favorite color combination: Jagdgrün mit hellbraunen Leder (hunting green with tan leather). So I decided that’s what I wanted for my Panamera. Well they don’t make Jagdgrün any more - the closest I learned from Sven Theis in Zuffenhausen was “jet green” which actually

is not a Panamera color. So what I ordered was jet green with cognac leather interior complemented by yachting mahogany. Thank you Prof. Dr.h.c. Ferry Porsche. So how does this picking up a PORSCHE in Europe thing really work? Seven easy steps: 1. Decide on the PORSCHE and configuration you want and the date when you want it. 2. Try to coordinate it with a PORSCHE TREFFEN or Fest trip - there is nothing like driving your new baby with a bunch of other PORSCHE aficionados around Europe. 3. Go to your local dealer and order the car. Then send a $10,000 deposit check to your dealer. 4. You’ll get a confirmation of the order from the dealer and some paperwork you need to sign. 5. Now you send the balance of your payment to the dealer. 6. Then this amazing leather case arrives from PORSCHE with booklets, brochures, information about your car from your European Delivery Specialist at PCNA in Atlanta, in my case Jamie Dillon. Jamie coordinated everything to make my pick up experience as smoothly, enjoyable and flawless as possible. You also get a voucher for your 5-star hotel stay and other goodies. 7. About a month from D-day (delivery day) you get the final confirmation with the time and location for the vehicle pick up. In my case, Thursday, September 6. at 8:30 am in Leipzig. That’s it...nothing to it. Leipzig is easy to get to from either Berlin or Frankfurt. Stuttgart (STR) is even easier to get to as there are nonstop flights on Delta from ATL and on United from EWR. I arrived in Leipzig (LEJ) the night before. As I came out of the luggage pick up area there stood a young man dressed to the nines with a sign that just said PORSCHE and the crest. I just nodded. He rushed over, took my bags and guided me to a black Cayenne S parked boldly directly in front of the terminal. PORSCHE being the

33

largest employer in Leipzig has certain advantageous privileges. He placed my luggage in the back and whisked me to the Leipzig Marriott. He offered to deliver two of my bags that I didn’t need for my overnight stay directly to the PORSCHE Factory, for my departure tomorrow, so I didn’t need to schlep them around. What service! The duty manager of the Marriott, Verena Müller, received me in the lobby and personally escorted me to the Executive Club Floor of the hotel. She invited me to dinner and we spent a delightful evening talking things PORSCHE. I couldn’t sleep. O.K. I slept fitfully. Leipzig not only boasts the PORSCHE Factory that makes the Cayennes and the Panameras, but it also has an amazing race track as part of the facility. Part of your car pick up at the factory is a tour of the whole factory and some track time with an instructor and a “hot lap” in a GT 2 or 3 with a race driver. What makes the Leipzig track so compelling is that it is actually a compendium of THE most famous race tracks in the world including the Nürburgring, Spa, Monza, Sebring, Suzuka and several more. It’s the EPCOT of racetracks . . . what a treat. At 8:30 am sharp I was met in the lobby by one of PORSCHE Leipzig’s professional driving instructors, John Black, who had another Cayenne S parked outside the hotel. In less than 15 minutes you I was at heaven’s gate. John guided me to the front desk of the customer center. After being offered refreshments, coffee, Danish pastry and croissants I was guided along a very wide corridor which to the right

“What makes the Leipzig track so compelling is that it is actually a compendium of THE most famous race tracks in the world including the Nürburgring, Spa, Monza, Sebring, Suzuka and several more. It’s the EPCOT of racetracks...what a treat” had a half dozen living rooms in each of which a brand new Cayenne or Panamera was parked. The “front” of the living room had a giant translucent garage door. There in the last bay sat this magnificent jet green Panamera GTS. To its left was the “living room” sitting area, a lovely plant - it looked perfect - as it should have been. John then started the two hour process of systematically going over every electronic, mechanical and ergonomic detail of the car. It’s much too much to absorb in one sitting. Between the navigation, sound system, countless seat adjustments. climate controls, shift settings, and countless other systems it was too much to absorb. I will have to get a refresher course in Zuffenhausen and another one from my sales advisor in Florida. Then a mechanic appeared and mounted a 45-day German “tourist delivery” license plate in the back and glued the one in the front since he didn’t want to drill holes there because in Florida no front license plates are required. My luggage

was placed in the spacious trunk; the seat was adjusted and memorized for my physique; and I started the engine surely with the same emotion felt by a F-15 flight on his first solo combat mission. The translucent garage door slid silently upwards and I eased the GTS into the spacious driveway in front of Leipzig’s HQ. The navigation was set for Königsstein near Frankfurt, my first stop and then Stuttgart. I slid on my driving gloves - that’s serious now. Within three minutes I was on the Autobahn heading South with the comforting feeling emanating from the GTS letting me know that this PORSCHE will take good care of me like no other PORSCHE ever has. As I accelerated with a powerful growl into the fast lane, safely ensconced into the two-tone cognac color leather seats, the navigation reassuring me of my progress and cars in front of me leaping into the right lanes upon my high-speed approach, I knew I made the right decision and added at least ten years of happiness to my life. I’m going to enjoy this baby . . . I’m off to Tuscany with The Tuscany TREFFEN group. ❚ ❙ ❘ 35

T

he body conversion kit is manufactured from ultra-light yet ultra-strong carbon fiber, and represents a winning combination of exciting design and aerodynamic efficiency. Also part of the conversion are tailormade three-piece NOVITEC ROSSO NF5 NL forged wheels combining 21-inch rims in the front and 22-inch rims on the rear axle. Further features are a revised suspension with front lift function, and a power upgrade to 574 kW / 781 hp, which propels the two-seater to a top speed of about 350 km/h. Upon customer request NOVITEC ROSSO also customizes the cockpit to the N-LARGO’s owner’s personal preferences down to the last detail. 205 centimeters: with this impressive width the NOVITEC ROSSO N-LARGO widebody

version surpasses its original by exactly eleven centimeters on the rear axle. To this end the designers developed strikingly styled fender flares that are seamlessly joined to the production body. The larger wheel arches, for which precise-fit liners were developed, then offer space for the NF5 NL wheels, which were custom-developed for the NOVITEC ROSSO N-LARGO. The three-piece wheels are manufactured using high-tech forging technology. But that’s not all: the widebody version also made it possible to design the wheels with an extremely concave wheel spider and five delicate double spokes. The size 12Jx22 rims are shod with Pirelli P ZERO highperformance tires in size 335/25 ZR 22. The N-LARGO front fenders create a striking hour-glass-shape effect. They replace the production components in their entirety and add six centimeters to the width of the F12 on

41

the front axle. To create a decidedly wedge-shaped appearance, front wheels in size 9.5Jx21 with an equally concave centerpiece were custom designed for this sports car. Tires in size 255/30 ZR 21 were selected as the perfect option. The development of the front and rear fender flares not only focused on fascinating looks. A lengthwise slot is integrated into the back of each front fender flare to assist in venting the air heated by the ceramic brakes from the wheel wells as quickly as possible. The rear flares feature large integrated brake cooling ducts that route the relative wind to the deceleration components. Strikingly styled rocker panels, available with a matte or high-gloss clear-coated carbon-fiber finish or painted in body or contrasting color, ensure a smooth airflow between the N-LARGO fenders on the front and rear axle. Key factors in the aerodynamic properties and the appearance are of course the fascia and spoilers of the

42

NOVITEC ROSSO special model. The front and rear fascia, which replace the production bumpers, were not only restyled to match the fender flares. The shape of front fascia and the central front blade, optionally available with a clear-coated carbon-fiber finish, lend the two-seater a decidedly aggressive glance. Their styling, which was optimized in the wind tunnel, reduces negative lift and further improves handling stability. The new carbon-fiber front grille is the perfect complement. The hood receives some added striking highlights with the N-LARGO air scoops on the leftand right-hand side as well as with the

central air deflection insert. Carbonfiber covers for the exterior mirrors provide the finishing touches. In the rear the combination of fivepiece diffuser on the N-LARGO fascia and the large rear airfoil create additional aerodynamic downforce at high speeds. The subtle separation edge on the roof, which like the other aerodynamic-enhancement components is available with a clearcoated carbon-fiber finish, lends the sports car a full-blooded racing look. The molding for the central rear fog lamp and the black tinted NOVITEC ROSSO taillights also demonstrate the great love of detail. To round out the striking appearance of the N-LARGO and to further enhance dynamic handling, NOVITEC ROSSO lowers the ride height of the car by up to 40 millimeters with the help of special sport springs. Steep ramps such as can be found in a parking garage or speed humps can be navigated more easily with the optional front lift system. At the push of a button the hydraulic

height adjustment raises the front axle by about 40 millimeters. At a second push of the button or automatically upon reaching a speed of 80 km/h the ride height reverts to its original position. To match the spectacular appearance, the NOVITEC ROSSO experts upgrade the 6.3-liter 12-cylinder four-valve engine. New mapping for the engine management system was developed in extensive test series on the test rigs and on the road. On the exhaust side a NOVITEC ROSSO highperformance quad exhaust, available with or without controlled butterfly valve, ensures exhaust emissions with low back pressure. With 781 hp of power at 8,600 rpm and a peak torque increased to 722 Nm at 6,400 rpm the N-LARGO reaches a top speed of about 350 km/h. NOVITEC ROSSO also offers custom exclusivity for the interior. The cockpit can be designed in leather and Alcantara in any desired color. ❚ ❙ ❘

Galpin is proud to introduce its first coach built supercar - the Galpin Ford GTR1. Continuing Galpin’s 60-year legacy of customizing vehicles, the GTR1 is based on the Ford GT and an interpretation of what it may have looked and performed like had it continued it’s evolution. The GTR1 boasts a powerplant capable of an estimated 1024 HP and 739 ft-lbs of torque, generated from a twin turbocharged 5.4L V8 engine that is mechanically capable of speeds in excess of 225 mph - making it a truly modern and bold American Mid-Engine Supercar.

UNCOVERING HISTORY

FERRUCCIO LAMBORGHINI’S LEGENDARY UNIQUE RIVA AQUARAMA LAMBORGHINI HAS BEEN RESTORED The fastest Riva Aquarama in the world restored to original condition by Dutch specialist Riva-World. With twin 350 hp 4.0 V12 Lamborghini engines from the equally legendary 350 GT, this is collector’s item for true connoisseurs

57

With the completion of the restoration of this unique one-of-a kind Riva Aquarama Lamborghini, Riva World has brought a legend back to life.

The maritime world is a living legend richer with the launch of the Riva Aquarama Lamborghini, which has been fully restored to its original condition. Built 45 years ago for and commissioned by Ferruccio Lamborghini, founder of the superb Italian sports car brand, the fastest Aquarama in the world is once again ready to cast off. A splendid piece of maritime and automobile history has been restored. For years the runabout was stashed away in the corner of a boatyard, hidden under old tarpaulin and above all, hidden from the world. Enthusiasts were aware of the existence of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s Riva Aquarama, but didn’t know where the legendary sports boat was after its owner passed away in 1993. That is not until a Dutch Riva collector tracked it down and had it fully restored to original condition by Riva World, a world-renowned specialist in the restoration of Riva boats. Now in 2013, three years after restoration work on the Aquarama Lamborghini began, the boat is 58

back to life in all its splendor and magnificence. Riva World didn’t accomplish this overnight. Sandro Zani, owner of the well-know Dutch Riva restorer, travelled to Italy on a regular basis during the past three years, including visits to the Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum, in order to document all the details and elements of the original, before beginning the extensive restoration. The project took around three years in total, during which the Aquarama was returned to its original condition from top to bottom. The wooden hull was repaired, sanded and no fewer than 25 coatings were applied. The wooden interior was repaired and the seats were reupholstered in the famous Riva design; all buttons and switches were disassembled, repaired and reinstalled; all chrome parts shine again like new and… naturally Lamborghini’s Riva received a new beating heart. A heart that makes this one-off from the past the fastest Aquarama in the world, thanks to beautiful twin Lamborghini V12 engines from the very first Lamborghini ever created: the 350 GT.

various adjustments to the engines, including increased bore and longer stroke, is already available from around 1,500 revs. Together they give the Riva Aquarama Lamborghini a top speed of around 48 knots, compared to 40 knots for regular Aquaramas that Riva fits with twin V8 units as standard equipment.

“One of the two original engines from the Riva can still be seen in the Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum in Italy, but unfortunately wasn’t available for sale for this project,” explains Sandro Zani. “That is why we bought two other V12 engines, one of which in the US, and converted them so they would be fully suitable for use in a boat. Thanks to the Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum, we were allowed to disassemble and re-create various original parts of the original engine in the museum. In addition, Lino Morosini, who 45 years ago was head of the Riva engine division and one of the fathers of the Aquarama Lamborghini, provided us with additional information with which we were able to adapt the twin V12 powerhouses, water-cooled via specially designed closed circuit, so

they were completely in line with the original specimens.” Another valuable source in that area was Lamborghini’s former legendary test driver and developer, Bob Wallace, who sadly passed away not long ago. He provided the Riva World team with input for getting the two Lamborghini engines ready for maritime use, for the conversion of the engines so the one would rotate to the left and the other to the right, for increasing the torque at low revs and for the manufacture of unique parts. The result: two wonderful sounding Lamborghini 4.0 V12s, each with 350hp and equipped with six twin Weber carburetors (twelve in total) with a rev range between 700 and 5,000 rpm and a formidable torque that through

After a few test runs in the Netherlands, last summer the legendary Riva was transported to Italy, where like a fish in the water the sports boat was given free rein on Lago d’Iseo. Also under the watchful eye of Carlos Riva, father of all Riva fathers, the founder of the brand and the man who back in 1968 was himself urged by Ferruccio Lamborghini to build the Aquarama in just three months’ time. With the completion of the restoration of this unique one-of-a kind Riva Aquarama Lamborghini, Riva World has brought a legend back to life. The result is a magnificent collector’s item that knows no equal in terms of restoration level and workmanship and with which Riva World will once again thrill maritime connoisseurs as well as lovers of hot-blooded Italian sports cars.

911 Turbo Cabriolet

POWERFUL, EFFICIENT & WONDERFULLY OPEN The dynamic range of the new 911 Turbo models multiplied by the driving pleasure offered by an opentop sports car: This is the succinct formula behind the two new leading 911 Cabriolet models. Some 50 years after the 911 first made its dĂŠbut and to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the 911 Turbo, the open-top versions of the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S are making their global dĂŠbut. The vehicles will be unveiled for the very first time at the Auto Show in Los Angeles on November 20. By adding the two new leading 911 models into the mix, Porsche is doubling its offering of the top-of-the-range models to four versions.

64

65

66

In supplementing the range, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet2) deliver the same blend of dynamism, performance and efficiency offered by the CoupĂŠ model unveiled a few months ago. Expressed in figures: The turbocharged 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine delivers 520 bhp (383 kW) in the open-top 911 Turbo and 560 bhp (412 kW) in the S model. The cars accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 and 3.2 seconds respectively, reaching a top speed of up to 318 km/h. And all this while achieving fuel consumption figures below the ten-litre limit: Both of the new top-ofthe-range Cabriolet models rest assured in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), boasting figures of 9.9 l/100 km (equivalent to 231 g/km CO2). When compared against the respective predecessor models, the new vehicles deliver 30 bhp more power and are 0.2 seconds faster in terms of their standard acceleration. They are also up to 15% more efficient.

67

68

The driving dynamics offered by the two new topof-the-range Cabriolet models is something that cannot be expressed in simple figures. Boasting PDK dual-clutch transmission as standard and the new PTM all-wheel drive, as well as featuring rearaxle steering and active aerodynamics, the opentop 911 Turbo models are now also establishing the leading Porsche technology in the open-top super sportscar segment. While the rear-axle steering has an immensely positive impact on handling for the two new super sportscars, both on the racetrack and during everyday use, the active aerodynamics can be tuned to offer optimum efficiency or driving dynamics at the touch of a button, depending on the driver’s wishes. More than ever before, both of these new top-of-therange models also make a clear visual statement about their performance. The characteristic, widely flared rear wings of the new 911 Turbo generation

are 28 mm wider than those of the 911 Carrera 4 models – a virtually level surface of just over a hand’s width extends out from the C-pillar to the outer edge of the vehicle. The impressive effect of this width is accentuated still further when the top is down. Another eye-catching feature of the 911 Turbo Cabriolet is the exclusive Porsche panel bow top with its lightweight magnesium frame. This innovative technology enables the Coupé-like arch to the roof to be achieved when the top is closed. This arch, which also offers advantages in terms of aerodynamics, is not feasible using conventional construction techniques. As with predecessor models, the roof opens and closes in around 13 seconds, at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The interior of the new Cabriolet models follows that of the 911 Turbo Coupé. The S-model boasts a particularly extensive range of furnishings, with features including an exclusive interior in Black/ Carrera Red and adaptive Sport Seat Plus seats with 18-way adjustment and memory. In addition, the backrest shells of the seats are leather trimmed with double cap seams, and various elements are achieved in a carbon look. As with the predecessor models, the Bose sound system is fitted as standard – and, for the first time, a Burmester system is also available on request. What’s more, the radar-controlled adaptive Cruise Control system, camera-based road sign and speed limit recognition function and reversing camera are also available as options.
