Chamber Announces Top Businesses for 2015

Four local businesses were recipients of the Lee’s Summit Chamber Truly the Best Business of the Year awards at the monthly membership luncheon on May 15. The four award winners include: MetroCARE-Lee’s Summit (not for profit); A Thyme For Everything (five or less employees); Lakewood Animal Health Center (6-20 employees); and Hollis + Miller Architects (more than 20 employees). Meet the Chamber’s Newest Staff The Chamber is excited to introduce two new members of our staff. Matt Baird has been hired as director of business and governmental relations and Anne Aubuchon has joined the team as administrative assitant. Matt comes to the Chamber from HCA Midwest Physicians, where he served as the practice administrator since 2010. Prior to that, he co-owned a residential/commercial real estate firm in Lee’s Summit. He has been engaged with legislative advocacy throughout his career – from real estate with the KCRAR governmental committee to healthcare, where he has served on the KC Healthcare Managers Association Board promoting the growth of large and small business practices at the local, state and national levels. Matt will provide staff support for the governmental relations committee, business development council and BOOST Lee’s Summit. Anne has lived in Lee’s Summit with her husband and son for 21 years and worked most recently as volunteer extraordinaire for Lee’s Summit CARES. She has chaired the Got Talent fundraiser for five years and has also been involved in coordinating other events for the organiztion. In addition, Anne has chaired fundraisers for Pro Deo Youth Center, Hope House and more. “Matt and Anne are both great additions to our team,” said Chamber President Nancy Bruns. “They fit right in and we are really excited to have them.” Stop by the Chamber office to introduce yourself, or meet them at the Chamber’s Open House on June 8, at the newly remodeled Depot.

Leadership Lee’s Summit was developed to assist in motivating the visionary leaders of the area. Since its inception in 1991, the program has graduated nearly 500 leaders who have gathered knowledge and skills to become influential in the community. Approximately 25 participants are selected each year based on strict criteria, including personal motivation, an interest to serve Lee’s Summit, potential or existing opportunities for advancement to top leadership positions, willingness to commit time and energy to complete the program and full support of the corporation/organization that is represented. Cocktails and Caddies is Back! The Chamber’s wildly popular all women’s golf tournament (minus the caddies) is back! This year’s tournament is July 10 at Teetering Rocks. So ladies, it’s time to organize your team of three women. Then, at the tourney lunch, bid on your fourth player from the showcase of men in the LIVE AUCTION! The highest bidder each round of the auction will get their pick of the fourth player/caddy/beverage runner/ball washer/ etc. The bidding will continue until all teams have a full foursome. Minimum bid is $50. Total number of teams is limited to 18, so get your registration in ASAP. Meet the Board of Directors The Lee’s Summit Chamber is governed by a 22-member board and five ex-officio members. Each month the Chamber Link will highlight a couple of our directors. Terry Trafton is the associate administrator of behavioral health at Lakewood Counseling-Truman Medical Center in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Terry currently serves as the co-chair of the Governmental Relations committee. He also is a member of the Truly the Best Business of the Year committee and Health Care committee.

Member Events & News Local Business Makes a Difference for Two High School Graduates On May 7, Integrity Roofing, Siding & Windows presented Alana Cieszykowski and Andrew DeShon, two Summit Christian Academy graduating students, with $1,000 scholarships. Each student applied by writing an

essay on what integrity means to them and how they have demonstrated it. Cieszykowski explained how doing the right thing came at a cost, “I learned that even though doing the right thing may cause the loss of friendships, you should always stand your ground...” DeShon wrote, “…when one exhibits the same traits in private that he does in public, he exhibits integrity.” He shared that even though he depends on scholarships to attend college, he never faltered in his integrity when it came to achieving good grades. This is the third year Integrity has provided these scholarships. “It’s important to us to support the community we work in,” explains David Todd, owner of Integrity Roofing, Siding & Windows.

Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street Announces Addition of New Staff Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street (DLSMS), a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization and historic preservation of Downtown Lee’s Summit recently welcomed new staff. DLSMS is excited to announce the promotion of Jody Fristoe, executive director; and the hire of Robyn Simmons, events and promotions director and Jen Morris, communications coordinator. Jody Fristoe, a Lee’s Summit resident since 1978, joined the organization in December 2014 as events and promotions director. When the executive director position became vacant in early 2015, she was hired to fill the position. “We are very excited to have Jody as our new executive director. She brings a wealth of experience in retail/ wholesale merchant sales and relationships, fundraising

and event planning,” said Lynn Hinkle, President of the organization’s board of directors. Robyn Simmons joined the team as events and promotions director. She has returned to Lee’s Summit from Washington D.C., where she worked in government relations and hospitality. A former hotel sales and conference services manager, she has extensive experience in events and hospitality. Most recently, Jen Morris was hired as communications coordinator. Jen graduated from Drury University with a bachelor of business administration in marketing and minors in design arts and global studies. She brings with her experience in brand management, graphic design and research, most recently in the higher education industry.

Seeking 2,000 Hands to Save Lives: City of Lee’s Summit Hosting Free CPR Seminar Knowing how and when to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR could mean the difference between life and death during an emergency. In an effort to train 1,000 Lee’s Summit residents in this life-saving procedure, the Lee’s Summit Health Education Advisory Board (HEAB) is offering a free, Hands-Only™ CPR training being held from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Harris Park Community Center, 110 SE Blue Parkway in Lee’s Summit. Participants (ages 12 and up) can choose from three, 45-minute sessions beginning at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. Individuals experienced in teaching CPR will conduct training sessions that will include a video and mannequins to practice chest compressions.
