DA TINTIN A AUDREY HEPBURN From Tintin to Audrey Hepburn
NON POTEVA partire meglio il Festival di Roma: “Tintin” di Spielberg è decisamente il film più atteso di quest’ultima parte di stagione cinematografica. Piera Detassis ha smosso mare e monti e alla fine ha portato a Roma alcune pellicole di ottima qualità come “The Lady” di Luc Besson in cui Michelle Yeoh interpreta magistralmente Aung San Sun Kyi, la pacifista birmana da decenni attiva contro la dittatura nel suo paese e per la difesa dei diritti umani, costretta agli arresti domiciliari quasi ininterrottamente dal 1989 al 2007 e separata a forza dal marito e dai figli residenti in Inghilterra. E per gli amanti del vintage diventa imperdibile il restauro di “Colazione da Tiffany”, un film che oltre ad aver posto Audrey Hepburn nell’Olimpo ha messo un punto fermo nella moda femminile. E l’Italia si gioca invece le opere di Pupi Avati, Ivan Cotroneo e Pippo Mezzapesa. THE ROME film Festival could have no better start: “Tintin” directed by Spielberg is certainly the most awaited movie in the late 2011 movie season. Piera Detassis has worked hard and finally brought some excellent films, like “The Lady” by Luc Besson where Michelle Yeoh masterfully plays Aung San Sun Kyi, the Burma pacifist who has been fighting against the dictatorship in her country and to defend human rights for decades, has been under house arrest almost uninterruptedly from 1989 till 2007, and was forcedly separated from her husband and children, who live in England. And vintage lovers should not miss the restored version of “Breakfast at Tiffany's”, a movie that launched Audrey Hepburn among the celebrities and set a milestone in ladies' fashion. And Italy plays its cards with movies directed by Pupi Avati, Ivan Cotroneo and Pippo Mezzapesa.

IL RITORNO DELLA FEDE THE RETURN OF FAITH IN ATTESA che quel mostro sacro di Steven Spielberg metta mano a “Gods and Kings”, praticamente la storia di Mosé, il cinema hollywoodiano ha riscoperto gli argomenti religiosi come testimoniano le molto produzioni che hanno la fede come argomento principale. Una svolta etica o semplicemente la speranza di ripetere il successo commerciale dei “Dieci comandamenti” di Cecil DeMille che nell’ormai lontanissimo 1956 fecero incassare ai produttori ben 80 milioni di dollari di allora, una fortuna. Certo, la religiosità è vista alla californiana: in “Machine Gun Preacher” un missionario sconfigge i ribelli africani più con il bazooka che con le preghiere, così come si declina la fede, come fa Roberto Duvall in “Seven Days”, per aiutare un giocatore di golf in crisi a ritrovare se stesso. WHILE waiting for Steven Spielberg to start “Gods and Kings”, practically the history of Moses, Hollywood has rediscovered religious movies, as proven by several productions that have faith as their main subject. An ethical turn or simply the hope to repeat the commercial success of Cecil DeMille's “The Ten Commandments”, which cashed in as many as 80,000,000 dollars in 1956, a true fortune. Sure, religiosity is approached in California style: in “Machine Gun Preacher”, a missionary defeats African rebels using more bazookas than prayers, and faith is interpreted, as done by Robert Duvall in “Seven Days”, to help a depressed golf player to regain his balance.

DUE MESI DI G La girandola di film del festival romano è finita? No, continua nelle sale. A dispetto del meteo novembre e dicembre sono mesi caldissimi per le nuove uscite in sala: si comincia l'11 novembre con l'atteso “Immortals”, fantasy spettacolare firmato dal visionario regista Tarsem Singh e “Moneyball” con Brad Pitt, un film sul baseball campione d'incassi in America. “THE TREE OF LIFE” IN DVD “THE TREE OF LIFE” ON DVD “THE TREE of Life” è la storia di una famiglia del Midwest negli anni Cinquanta attraverso lo sguardo del figlio maggiore, Jack, nel suo viaggio personale dall’innocenza dell’infanzia alle disillusioni dell’età adulta in cui cerca di tirare le somme di un rapporto conflittuale con il padre (Brad Pitt). Jack - che da adulto è interpretato da Sean Penn - si sente come un’anima perduta nel mondo moderno che vaga nel tentativo di trovare delle risposte alle origini e al significato della vita, tanto da mettere in discussione anche la sua fede. Attraverso lo sguardo possente e visionario di Malick, il film mostra come sia la natura brutale che la grazia spirituale siano alla base delle nostre vite come individui e come famiglie. E rivela come esse pervadono tutta la nostra esistenza. “THE TREE of Life” is the story of a Midwestern family in the fifties through the eyes of his eldest son, Jack, in his personal journey from innocence to childhood disappointments of adulthood in which he tries to draw some conclusions of a report conflict with his father (Brad Pitt). Jack - an adult who is played by Sean Penn - feels like a lost soul wandering in the modern world in an attempt to find answers to the origins and meaning of life, so much so that even to question his faith. Through the eyes of the powerful and visionary Malick, the film shows how the brutal nature of spiritual grace that are the basis of our lives as individuals and as families. It reveals how they permeate our entire existence.

Bringing all cinema to all people
ANCHE in questa sua sesta edizione il Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma, che ancora una volta ha avuto l’onore di ottenere l’adesione del nostro Presidente della Repubblica con annessa una prestigiosa targa celebrativa, ha tenuto a rispettare quella sua vocazione prioritaria che si riassumeva nella formula “Tutto il cinema per tutti”. Vi ha posto mano, realizzandola con intelligenza e sapienza, il nostro Direttore Artistico, Piera Detassis, dando ulteriori, felicissimi spazi, oltre alla sua Selezione Ufficiale, alla collaborazione specifica di quella sua Commissione Esperti in cui ha favorito l’attività della sezione L’Altro Cinema|Extra, a cura di Mario Sesti, dedicata al documentarismo e ai film di ricerca, specie nell’ambito di nuovi linguaggi e formati, della sezione Alice nella città, a cura di Gianluca Giannelli, dedicata al cinema per ragazzi, della sezione Occhio sul mondo|Focus, a cura di Gaia Morrione, dedicata quest’anno all’analisi del cinema inglese e della cultura che lo esprime, mantenendo quel contenitore denominato Spettacolo | Eventi Speciali. Mentre, per favorire gli scambi all’interno dell’industria cinematografica, vi sarà sempre il Mercato Internazionale del Film (The Business Street) che sotto la direzione di Roberto Cicutto si svolgerà anche d’intesa con le principali organizzazioni del cinema italiano e internazionale. Contestualmente non si sono certo dimenticate occasioni indirizzate a celebrare momenti di particolare rilievo della nostra storia, come, in occasione dei 150 anni dell’Unità d’Italia, una data che il nostro amatissimo Presidente della Repubblica ha inserito profondamente nei nostri cuori, una mostra fotografica all’Auditorium
intitolata “Viva l’Italia! Il Risorgimento sul set”, a cura di Antonio Maraldi (Centro Cinema Città di Cesena) sul cinema dedicato al Risorgimento. Pensata in occasione del 150° anniversario dell’Unità d’Italia, utilizza foto di scena e scatti fuori scena provenienti dai principali archivi italiani di cinema. Per ricordare inoltre il nostro migliore cinema di ieri, sempre attuale, si proietteranno Rotaie di Mario Camerini e Cannibali di Liliana Cavani. Nelle stesse cifre una rassegna alla Casa del Cinema a cura di Marcello Veneziani sul tema dell’identità italiana. Si celebrerà poi all’Auditorium l’ottantesimo compleanno della nostra Monica Vitti. Lo ricorderemo con una mostra fotografica realizzata in collaborazione con il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia e Cinecittà Luce. Non dimentico l’evento rappresentato in modo speciale quest’anno dalla composizione della Giuria Internazionale per la Selezione Ufficiale. La presiede una personalità a me carissima, conosciuta in tutto il mondo, il Maestro Ennio Morricone, e lo affianca per la cultura italiana una Étoile della grandezza di Roberto Bolle. Anche i componenti stranieri della giuria hanno ciascuno il loro carisma e certamente porteranno un solido contributo alla ottima realizzazione delle finalità del nostro Festival. Ai loro premi e a quelli delle altre tre sezioni competitive si aggiunge anche quest’anno quel nostro premio ufficiale, Marc’Aurelio del Pubblico, votato appunto da tutti quei nostri concittadini che, sempre più numerosi, seguono da vicino questo Festival intitolato proprio a loro e alla nostra città. FOR ITS sixth edition, the International Rome Film Festival, which is once again honored to have the support of the President of the Italian Republic along with a prestigious celebrative plaque, continues to abide by its priority vocation, nicely summed up by the formula: “Bringing all cinema to all people.” We owe much to our Artistic Director Piera Detassis, who has achieved great heights with her intelligence and wisdom. In addition to her Official Selection, she has given valuable added space to her commission of experts and their sections: Mario Sesti, programmer of the Extra sidebar, which is dedicated to documentaries, research, and new film languages and formats; Gianluca Giannelli, programmer of the Alice nella città section for young audiences; and Gaia Morrione, curator of this year’s Focus on British cinema and culture. Inaugurated last year, the Special Events section is also back, as is The Business Street film market. Promoting industry networking, and again helmed by Roberto Cicutto, it will take place with input from leading organizations of Italian and international cinema. We have certainly not forgotten to commemorate particularly momentous occasions of our history, such as 150th Anniversary of Italian Unification, a date that our beloved President of the Republic has deeply inscribed into our hearts. We pay homage to the anniversary with a photography exhibit at the Auditorium curated by Antonio Maraldi (of the Centro Cinema Città in Cesena), entitled Viva l’Italia! Il Risorgimento sul set, from films about the Risorgimento. Conceived for the 150th Anniversary of Italian Unification, it features set and behind-the-scene photos from Italy’s main film archives. Furthermore, we will pay homage to our best films of yesterday, which are always topical, with screenings of Vittorio De Sica’s Sciuscià, Mario
Camerini’s Rotaie and The Cannibals by Liliana Cavani. In keeping with this theme, there will also be a film series at the Casa del Cinema organized by Marcello Veneziani, centered on Italian identity.We will also celebrate Monica Vitti’s 80th birthday at the Auditorium, with a photography exhibit organized in collaboration with the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and Cinecittà Luce. I would be remiss in not mentioning the special nature of this year’s international jury of the Official Selection, presided over by someone dear to me known throughout the world: Maestro Ennio Morricone. He is joined by another great étoile of Italian culture, Roberto Bolle. The foreign jury members will also lend their charisma to ensure the Festival fully achieve its goals. Besides their awards and the prizes of the other competition sections, once again our official prize, the Marc’Aurelio Audience Award, will be voted upon by our fellow Romans who, in growing numbers, closely follow the Festival that takes the name of their, of our, city. FESTIVAL TRA PASSATO, PRESENTE E FUTURO The Festival beetween Past, Present and Future
LA VI EDIZIONE del Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma arriva in un momento molto difficile per l’economia del Paese e quindi faticoso anche per il mondo delle arti e della cultura. Ciò nonostante la Fondazione Cinema per Roma ha cercato di assorbire la complessità di uno scenario generale così turbolento, preservando gli standard di qualità del Festival e nello stesso tempo, con la consapevolezza che in tempi di crisi è fondamentale anche inseguire le opportunità, si è data importanti obiettivi di sviluppo. In primo luogo la costruzione dell’evento ha insistito su quella connotazione che differenzia il Festival romano da molte altre iniziative di eguale importanza e prestigio: ricercare il più possibile l’autofinanziamento. Ecco quindi progetti ad hoc verso sponsor che investono nell’evento e che pur nella criticità del momento economico assicurano la propria fidelizzazione al Festival. Uno su tutti è il caso di Bnl – Bnp Gruppo Paribas main partner della manifestazione presente sin dal 2006. Ma ecco anche vere e proprie coproduzioni con soggetti pubblico-privati come il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Cinecittà-Luce, la Fondazione MAXXI, Zètema, la Casa del Cinema, l’Istituzione delle Biblioteche di Roma, a cui si uniscono collaborazioni più mirate, tra cui quella con l’Accademia Nazionale di

Santa Cecilia, Romaeuropa Festival, Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, Auditorium Conciliazione. Anche quest’anno si rileva la corealizzazione di progetti istituzionali, come quello con il Dipartimento della Gioventù della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, che oltre al Premio Esordienti e all’attività di formazione per giovani professionisti vede la realizzazione di una Vetrina dei Giovani Cineasti Italiani. Naturalmente rimane l’apporto insostituibile dei soci fondatori (Comune di Roma, Regione Lazio, Provincia di Roma, Camera di Commercio di Roma, Fondazione Musica per Roma) che oltre ad assicurare un sostegno finanziario (la parte pubblica dei ricavi a budget è pari al 35%) partecipano alla progettazione del sistema festival. Viene a confermarsi un modello di Festival pluralista, che si affida alla società civile e non solo al contribuente, per presentare un’offerta di qualità e varietà: le sezioni storiche, gli eventi speciali, il Focus dedicato al Regno Unito, il progetto sull’Identità Italiana nell’anniversario per i 150 anni dell’Unità d’Italia, l’attività del Mercato del Film e il sostegno alle coproduzioni di giovani autori e poi mostre, concerti, spettacoli secondo una formula, quella delle Risonanze, che non assorbe risorse ma utilizza la rete delle cooperazioni. Un Festival impegnato e solidale, attento anche alle innovazioni (wi-fi in ogni location, potenziamento del digitale, una sezione sul web grazie alla collaborazione con Mymovies). Un Festival che vuole, nonostante le difficoltà, crescere e che scommette tra le sue tante particolarità proprio sul Mercato del Film, nel 2012 concentrato presso il Museo MAXXI, mentre Via Veneto resterà il luogo dell’accoglienza degli operatori. ancora di più il Festival tra i grandi avvenimenti collettivi e culturali internazionali. FRANCESCA VIA Direttore Generale della Fondazione Cinema per Roma THE SIXTH edition of the International Rome Film Festival comes at a very difficult time for the Country’s economy, a situation that has serious and tough repercussions on the world of arts and culture as well. Yet despite all this the Fondazione Cinema per Roma has tried to come to terms with the complexity of such an unstable general outlook and without sacrificing quality standards or denying that at times of crises no window of opportunity should be shunned, it has all the same set itself some important objectives for the future. In the first place the event’s conception has obviously steered a path that is necessarily in tune with what is one of its distinctive features which sets the Roman festival apart from many other initiatives of equal importance and prestige: the fact that it is always striving to be self-financing. This leads to specific ad hoc projects designed for sponsors who despite the critical economic climate are still prepared to invest in the event and show their loyalty to the Festival. And first among these is the BNL – BNP PARIBAS GROUP, the event’s main partner who has taken part ever since 2006. But this year there are also many coproductions with public-private institutions such as the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Cinecittà-Luce, the MAXXI Foundation, Zètema, the Casa del Cinema, the Rome Library Institution to which one should add the more specific collaborations which include the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, the Auditorium Conciliazione. And this year a particular mentions should also go to the many institutional projects being co-produced, such as the one set up with the Italian Youth Department of the Presidency of the
Council of Ministers which in addition to the Début Director Prize and the training activities for young professionals has also led to the creation of the Showcase for Young Italian Film-Makers. Of course the support from our founder members is irreplaceable (Rome Council, Lazio Region, Province of Rome, Rome Chamber of Commerce, Fondazione Musica per Roma) seeing as in addition to providing financial support (the public share of the budgetted income amounts to 35%) then also participate in the conception of the festival system. Thus our model of Festival proves to be very eclectic, relying on the society at large and not just the tax payer, in order to present a highly qualified and varied offer: the traditional sections, the special events, the Focus dedicated to the United Kingdom, the project on the Italian identity to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Italian Unification, the Film Market activity and the support for co-productions by young authors to which one should add all the exhibitions, concerts and shows which according to the Echoes formula, does not absorb resources but relies on the cooperation network. A very committed and socially responsible Festival with its finger on innovation (wi-fi in every location, digital enhancement, a section on the web thanks to the collaboration with Mymovies). A Festival which, despite the problems, is set on growing and among its many features places its greatest faith in its Film Market, which in 2012 will be hosted for the most part by the MAXXI Museum, while Via Veneto will remain the venue where operators will be welcomed. The Festival management believes in actions for the future, even when times are tricky, which can be achieved by concentrating the efforts of all involved in order to position the Festival to an even greater extent among the great internationally recognised collective cultural events. LA SFIDA CONTINUA SESTA edizione del Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma: la sfida continua. Ed è una sfida che guarda prima di tutto al nostro plusvalore - il pubblico appassionato di una (cine)città che ama e coltiva la settima arte - ma non dimentica l’industria, quel Mercato ben rappresentato da The Business Street guidata da Roberto Cicutto. La nostra diversità e peculiarità sta in questo binomio, ma anche nella capacità di attraversare territori più variegati e visionari: i documentari, i duetti e le lezioni di cinema di L’Altro cinema | Extra, la furia giovanile di Alice nella città, la cultura fusion di Focus, quest’anno dedicato al cinema UK, le rarità di Spettacolo|Eventi speciali. “Tutto il cinema per tutti” è lo slogan del nostro presidente Gian Luigi Rondi e rappresenta la linea guida del progetto Festival di Roma, ma questa sesta edizione è anche la conferma di una vocazione, l’attenzione posta fin dall’inizio al lavoro dell’attore, che quest’anno, pur assegnando a Richard Gere il prestigioso Acting Award, è soprattutto lavoro d’attrice. Saranno molte, infatti, le interpreti di calibro internazionale che calcheranno il red carpet di Roma, dalle star asiatiche Michelle Yeoh e Zhang Ziyi a Olivia Newton-John, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Isabelle Huppert, Charlotte Rampling, Felicity Jones, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristin Scott Thomas e Noomi Rapace in aggiunta al fitto parterre di protagoniste italiane. Per chi ama le assonanze, il Festival apre con “The Lady”, film ispirato alla figura del premio Nobel per la pace Aung San Suu Kyi, si dipana simbolicamente nel segno di tante ladies e chiuderà con il restauro di “Colazione da Tiffany”, omaggio alla bellissima mostra dedicata a Audrey Hepburn. In occasione del 150° anniversario dell’Unità d’Italia, il Festival di Roma si avventura poi in un lungo e affascinante viaggio in Italia, che parte dal Nord attaccato dalla crisi (“L’industriale” di Montaldo e “Il mio domani” di Marina Spada) e scende lungo la penisola con le Marche di Avati, la Napoli di Cotroneo, la Puglia di Pippo Mezzapesa. Grandi maestri e giovani debuttanti, storie moderne e tese per raccontare un Paese in bilico ma vitale e la trasferta americana di Roberto Faenza con “Un giorno questo dolore ti sarà utile”, dal romanzo cult di Peter Cameron. Nelle
tappe del viaggio, incontreremo i segni dell’identità italiana, riassunti in due restauri prestigiosi (“Rotaie” e “I cannibali”) e importanti curiosità: i documentari dedicati a Califano, Di Bartolomei, Franca Valeri, la riscoperta di Lelio Luttazzi regista e quello che amiamo definire l’ultimo film di Furio Scarpelli (in realtà diretto dal nipote Filiberto) “Tormenti”, graphic novel di preziosa intensità. Dalla trasgressione sorridente di “Hysteria” e “Mon pire cauchemar” al totalitarismo in chiave vaudeville di “Hotel Lux” per concludere con lo strepitoso “Totò 3D”, sono molti i film che scatenano il sorriso e la risata senza rimorsi, ma anche senza rinunciare alla riflessione e al tratto di stile. Persino due fra i più grandi registi contemporanei, Steven Spielberg e Martin Scorsese, presentano in anteprima al Festival “Le Avventure di Tintin: il segreto dell’Unicorno” e “Hugo Cabret”. L’abbiamo detto all’inizio, immaginare un festival significa per noi, prima di tutto, costruire un viaggio attraverso la contemporaneità reinterpretata con tutti gli strumenti espressivi, nessuno escluso, compreso quello dei generi rappresentato quest’anno dall’irruzione dell’horror d’autore in selezione ufficiale (“Babycall”). Il risultato lo giudicherete voi, ma sottolineo che è frutto del lavoro testardo di una squadra ricca di passione e grandi professionalità, che resiste nell’idea di un festival-festa metropolitano. Abbiamo lavorato a testa bassa, tutti insieme, in un anno complesso da tanti punti di vista e crediamo davvero che il Festival di Roma meriti attenzione, fiducia e continuità da parte di tutti, istituzioni comprese. Our diversity and distinctive qualities lie in this dual nature, but also in our ability to touch on the most diverse and visionary areas: documentaries, duets
The Challenge goes on and cinema lessons in the Extra Section, the youthful frenzy in Alice nella città, a fusion of cultures in Focus which this year is dedicated to UK cinema and the particularly mouthwatering curios served up by the Special Events section. “All of cinema is for everyone” is our president Gian Luigi Rondi’s slogan and it duly represents a guideline for Rome Festival project, but this sixth edition further confirms one of our vocations, the great attention placed from the very outset on the work of the actor, which this year, despite the prestigious Acting Award going to Richard Gere, is mainly about women actresses. There will in fact be many internationally celebrated women, in addition to the numerous Italian leading ladies present, who will be stepping along the red carpet in Rome, including the Asian stars Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi and the likes of Olivia Newton-John, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Isabelle Huppert, Charlotte Rampling, Felicity Jones, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristin Scott Thomas and Noomi Rapace. For those who love wordplay, the Festival opens with “The Lady”, a film inspired by the character of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, and then continues under the auspices of the many ladies involved before closing with the restored version of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, a tribute to the beautiful exhibition dedicated to Audrey Hepburn. To mark the 150th Anniversary of the Italian Unification, the Rome Festival takes a long and fascinating trip round Italy, which sets off from the North in the grips of the current credit crunch (“L’industriale” by Montaldo and “Il mio domani” by Marina Spada) and then winds its way down the peninsula through Avati’s Marche, Cotroneo’s Naples and Pippo Mezzapesa’s Puglia. Great masters and young début directors, tense modern stories to describe a country very much in the balance, yet still very much alive, along with the American experience undertaken by Roberto Faenza with “Someday This Pain will be Useful to You”, based on Peter Cameron’s cult novel. During the various stages of the journey we will encounter many different instances of Italian identity, summed up by two precious restorations (“Rotaie” and “I cannibali”) and important curios, which include the documentaries dedicated to Califano, De Bartolomei, the rediscovery of Lelio
Luttazzi as a director and the surprise of what we’d rather refer to as Furio Scarpelli’s last film (though effectively directed by his grandson Filiberto) “Tormenti”, a graphic novel of classic intensity. From the smiling transgression of “Hysteria” and “Mon pire cauchemar” to the Vaudeville style Totalitarianism of “Hotel Lux”, to end with the outrageous “Totò 3D”, there are many films that trigger unbounded and liberating laughter and amusement yet without foregoing the right to sew seeds of thought and show instances of great style. Even two of our the greatest contemporary directors, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, are presenting previews at the Festival of “The adventures of Tintin” and “Hugo Cabret”. As we said at the beginning, imagining a Festival for us means, first and foremost, building a journey through our contemporary world as seen through a whole range of expressive media, bar none, including such extreme genres as art horror which this year makes a violent intrusion into the Festival’s Official Selection with “Babycall”. The result is for you to judge, but I here wish to underline that it is the result of the stubborn labours of a team full of passion and great professional expertise, which continues working along the lines of a metropolitan festival-party. We have kept our noses to the grindstone, all together, in a year that has been undoubtedly complex from many points of view and we truly believe that the Rome Film Festival deserves attention, trust and continuity from all quarters, including our institutions. AUTO E CAPOLAVORI Cars and Masterpieces
Macchine e cinema rappresentano spesso un binomio vincente. Tante sono infatti le quattroruote entrate nel mito e nell'immaginario collettivo grazie ai film di cui sono state protagoniste. Un esempio eclatante è dato dalla storica Bluesmobile, la 1974 Dodge Monaco utilizzata da Dan Aykroyd e John Belushi per sfuggire ai poliziotti in “The Blues Brothers”, film culto del 1980. Ma prima della vettura della polizia dei due folli era stata la Aston Martin DB5 di James Bond ad aver fatto fremere gli spettatori e tre anni dopo, nel 1967, la rossa fiammante Alfa Romeo Duetto di Dustin Hoffman nel “Laureato”. Decisamente più infantile ma non per questo meno famoso è il Maggiolino Volkswagen (modello 117) protagonista di una fortunata serie

I fan di Steve McQueen non posso dimenticare la Ford Mustang utilizzata dall'attore in “Bullit”, mentre quelli di Mel Gibson si ricordano perfettamente della Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe guidata dalla star australiana in “Mad Max”, la pellicola che lo ha reso celebre in tutto il mondo. Ma forse dovendo scegliere una sola macchina che incarni alla perfezione il rapporto tra grande schermo e quattroruote non si può non pensare alla De Lorean DMC-12 che Michael J.Fox e Christopher Lloyd utilizzano per andare a passo nel tempo nella trilogia di “Ritorno al Futuro”.
Cars and movies are often a winning pair. In fact, a lot of four-wheelers have become mythical and now belong to collective imagery thanks to the movies they have starred in. MONICA VITTI LA “MATTATRICE” Il Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma, il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia e Cinecittà Luce rendono omaggio a Monica Vitti in occasione del suo 80° compleanno, realizzando una straordinaria mostra fotografica. La mostra ripercorre la splendida carriera di una delle più grandi attrici e interpreti del cinema italiano, che nell’arco di quarant’anni ha spaziato, per stile e talento, dai ruoli drammatici di Michelangelo Antonioni ad altri ben più brillanti, arrivando a essere l’unica “mattatrice” della commedia all’italiana, in grado di tenere testa ai suoi colleghi maschi tra cui Alberto Sordi, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman, Nino Manfredi. La mostra, accompagnata da un pregevole volume fotografico, è realizzata con immagini della Cineteca Nazionale e di Cinecittà Luce. Per l’occasione vengono inoltre proiettati due film che vedono protagonista l’attrice: Dramma della gelosia - Tutti i particolari in cronaca di Ettore Scola e Scandalo segreto, l’ultimo suo lavoro di cui la Vitti è anche sceneggiatrice e regista.

MONICA VITTI THE “MATTATRICE” The International Film Festival of Rome, the Experimental Centre of Cinematography and Cinecittà pay tribute to Monica Vitti Light on the occasion of his 80 th birthday, achieving an impressive photographic exhibition. The exhibition traces the career of one of the most beautiful actresses and great interpreters of Italian cinema, which has ranged over four decades, styles and talents, from the dramatic roles of Michelangelo Antonioni’s other far more brilliant, coming to be the ‘unique’ mattatrice “of the Italian comedy, able to keep up with her male colleagues, including Alberto Sordi, Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman, Nino Manfredi. The exhibition, accompanied by a remarkable book of photographs, is made with images of the National Cinematheque and Cinecittà Light. AUDREY HEPBURN E “COLAZIONE DA TIFFANY” AUDREY HEPBURN AND “BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S” IN OCCASIONE del 50° anniversario di “Colazione da Tiffany”, per la prima volta, la Capitale celebra Audrey Hepburn, attraverso una mostratributo che serve a raccogliere fondi per i progetti dell’UNICEF di lotta alla mortalità infantile, a cui la stessa Audrey ha dedicato una parte importantissima della sua vita in qualità di Ambasciatrice di buona volontà. L’integrazione nel prezzo del biglietto, infatti, è interamente devoluta in beneficenza all’UNICEF. “Audrey a Roma” è ospitata dal Museo dell’Ara Pacis dal 26 ottobre al 4 dicembre. La mostra è curata dal secondo figlio di Audrey Hepburn, Luca Dotti, con Ludovica Damiani, Sciascia Gambaccini, Guido Torlonia e la consulenza di Sava Bisazza Terracini. Un video esclusivo e una selezione di scatti inediti svelano alcuni momenti della sua vita quotidiana nella città. In mostra anche le immagini dall’archivio Unicef che documentano i viaggi di Audrey Hepburn tra i bambini più disagiati. A cinquant’anni dall’uscita cinematografica, “Colazione da Tiffany” arriva al Festival di Roma, alla fine della cerimonia di premiazione, nella versione restaurata in digitale 4k grazie a Nexo Digital. La proiezione del capolavoro di Blake Edwards anticipa l’omaggio a Audrey Hepburn del 9 novembre, quando il film sarà per un solo giorno nelle sale italiane. Tratto dal romanzo di Truman Capote, ha segnato la storia del cinema e del costume, aggiudicandosi due Oscar grazie alla colonna sonora di Henri Mancini e al successo della celebre “Moon River”.

ON THE OCCASION of 50 anniversary of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, for the first time, the Capital celebrates Audrey Hepburn, in an exhibitiontribute is to raise money for UNICEF projects to combat child mortality, to which Audrey has the same dedicated a great part of his life as a goodwill Ambassador. The integration in the price of ticket, in fact, is entirely devolved to charity UNICEF. “Audrey in Rome” is hosted by the Ara Pacis Museum from 26 October to 4 December. The exhibition is curated by Audrey Hepburn’s second son, Luca Dotti, with Ludovica Damiani, Sciascia Gambaccini, Guido Torlonia and the advice of the Sava Bisazza Terracini. A video exclusive and a selection of unpublished shots reveal a few moments of his life in the city. The exhibition also features images from the archive UNICEF documenting the travels of Audrey Hepburn among the most disadvantaged children. Fifty years on from the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” come November 4th at the International Rome Film Festival, at the end of the ceremony in the restored version with Nexo digital 4K Digital. In 1945, a photographer took her a picture while, as a worker, she was spraying paint on an aircraft's body. Those photos arrived to the director of the most important advertising agency in Hollywood and that was the first step of her career. Rumors say that she used to have a quarter of an inch of heel cut away from just one of her shoes to achieve her famous wiggly walk.

Intitolata “Una bionda a Manhattan”, l'esposizione raccoglie gli scatti effettuti da Eddie Feingersh, giornalista e fotografo, che immortalò la diva in una settimana di vacanza trascorsa nella Grande Mela. A dicembre, presso la Julien’s Auctions, verranno messe all'asta alcune foto inedite della diva, quando si chiamava ancora Norma Dougherty, ben prima che si trasformasse nella Marilyn amata da tutti. Lo ha stabilito un giudice fallimentare della Florida, per saldare i debiti del fotografo Joseph Jasgur, che ha eseguito gli scatti nel 1946. La diva all’ epoca aveva solo 20 anni, non era ancora famosa e appare mentre si rilassa in spiaggia, con i suoi capelli naturali (solo dopo li tingerà nel biondo platino con cui ha poi raggiunto il successo), senza trucco ma già carismatica. Under the title “A Blonde in Manhattan”, the exhibition collects photos taken by Eddie Feingersh, a journalist and photographer, during a holiday week spent in the Big Apple. Some previously unpublished pictures of the star, when her name was still Norma Dougherty, quite a while before she became the Marilyn loved by everybody, will be auctioned at Julien’s Auctions in December. This is the result of the award of a bankruptcy judge in Florida, which settles the debts of photographer Joseph Jasgur, who took those pictures in 1946. The star was only 20 back then, she was not famous yet and is portrayed while relaxing on the beach, with her natural hair (she started to dye them platinum blonde, which gave her renown), without any makeup, yet already charismatic.

So, he also took the opportunity to visit several Buddhist temples together with his spiritual guide, monk Sung Jin. However, Rome gives him an award for a career filled with blockbusters, which appealed the audience better than critics. Everything started in 1980, with “American Gigolo”, which launched him as the new sex symbol of American movies, and the following year in the role of charming Zack Mayo in “An Officer and a Gentleman”. Thereafter, he played many great roles in “The Honorary Consul”, “The Cotton Club” and above all “Pretty Woman”. Finally, he was also awarded with a Golden Globe as the best actor for “Chicago”.

Negli anni della sua giovinezza a Londra andava diffondendosi la moda dei teddy boys, la subcultura che prese in prestito il titolo in prima pagina di un giornale del 1953, che abbreviava il nome Edward in Teddy. Le ragazze che sceglievano la moda teddy boy indossavano hobble skirts edoardiane, cappelli da pescatore di paglia, spille di cammeo, espadrillas e capelli raccolti in lunghe trecce. Per mezzo secolo gli scatti di Russell sono rimasti chiusi in un cassetto, poi, nel 2005, le foto sono riemerse dall'oblio ed oggi sono esposte presso la Lucie Bell Gallery of Photography a St Leonards nell'East Sussex. Tra gli stilisti che hanno rilanciato il mito delle teddy girls ci sono Jeremy Scott, che ha fatto sfilare ragazze da high school con capelli cotonati, cardigan americani, fuseaux sotto il ginocchio o microabiti con motivochitarra ma anche Gucci, Antonio Berardi, Miss Sixty, Gianfranco Ferré, Ralph Lauren e Moschino.

In the years of his youth, London was hit by the fad of teddy boys, a subculture that borrowed its name from the front page title of a 1953 newspaper, which shortened the name Edward into Teddy. Girls who chose teddy boy fashion used to wear Edwardian hobble skirts, fisherman's straw hats, cameo brooches, espadrilles and braided hair. Russell's photos remained hidden somewhere for half a century, then, they resurfaced in 2005 and are currently exhibited at the Lucie Bell Gallery of Photography in St Leonards, East Sussex. Designers who revamped the teddy girls myth are Jeremy Scott, in whose fashion shows high school girls walked the catwalk in back-combed hair, American cardigans, below-the-knee leggings, or guitarpatterned short dresses, Gucci, Antonio Berardi, Miss Sixty, Gianfranco Ferré, Ralph Lauren and Moschino.
