There’s music by Sibelius, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Bartók and Bruckner – works that Rattle has loved for decades, and which he continues to revisit and reappraise. NEW VOICES The LSO is a modern orchestra, serving a diverse and changing city, connected to communities around the world. You can hear fresh voices from North America – Samy Moussa’s Crimson; Carlos Simon’s This Land – and the UK, including a striking new work by Louise Drewett, created through the LSO Panufnik Composers Scheme for emerging creative voices. Saxophonist and presenter Jess Gillam steps forward for her debut with the LSO in a jazz-inspired programme, which forms part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. And there are more jazz influences at LSO St Luke’s, in a series of BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts and the continued collaboration between the LSO Percussion Ensemble and Ayanna Witter-Johnson.
Art has always taken on new meanings in changing times. Guest conductors like Nathalie Stutzmann and Kevin John Edusei are redefining the musical landscape; soloists like Janine Jansen and Alice Sara Ott ask new questions every time they play. And we’re showcasing outstanding musicians from within the LSO itself, with Peter Moore, Roman Simovic, David Cohen and Ben Thomson all appearing as soloists in their own right, in works by Beethoven, Takemitsu and a UK premiere by Wynton Marsalis.

MUSIC THAT INSPIRES We were established in 1904, as one of the first orchestras shaped by its musicians. Since then, generations of remarkable talents have built the LSO’s reputation for uncompromising quality, and inspirational repertoires. Today, we’re ranked among the world’s top orchestras. As Resident Orchestra at the Barbican since the Centre opened in 1982, we perform over 70 concerts here every year. Our family of artists includes Music Director Sir Simon Rattle, Principal Guest Conductors Gianandrea Noseda and François-Xavier Roth, Conductor Laureate Michael Tilson Thomas, and Associate Artists Barbara Hannigan and André J Thomas. We also perform over 50 concerts a year to audiences throughout the UK and worldwide, and deliver a far-reaching programme of recordings, live-streams and on-demand broadcasts, reaching millions every year. We have major artistic residencies in Paris, Dortmund, Tokyo, Aix-en-Provence Festival, a growing presence in China, South Korea, Vietnam and Latin America, and a transatlantic partnership with the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.

MUSIC THAT UNITES Through our world-leading learning and community programme, LSO Discovery, we’re connecting people from all walks of life, across the London community, to the power of great music. The programme is based at LSO St Luke’s, our venue on Old Street. From there, LSO Discovery’s reach extends across East London, the UK and the world through both in-person and digital activity. Our musicians are at the heart of this unique programme, leading workshops, mentoring bright young talent, working with emerging composers, performing at free concerts for the local community and using music to support adults with learning disabilities. We also visit children’s hospitals and support training programmes for music teachers. The ambition behind all of this work is simple: to share the transformative power of music with everyone, including those who would not normally experience it. The impact is unrivalled, and every year LSO Discovery reaches thousands of people of all ages.
INSPIRE MUSIC THAT INNOVATES In 1999, we formed our own recording label, LSO Live, and revolutionised how live orchestral music is recorded. We’ve released over 150 recordings so far – and overall we have made more recordings than any other orchestra. We’ve entertained millions with classic scores for Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Shape of Water, as well as music for video games, advertisements and many other audio projects. We also reach a worldwide audience through streaming, with millions of music-lovers listening online every month, and viewers around the world tuning into full orchestral concerts streamed on YouTube and through our broadcast partners.
MUSIC THAT LIVES We champion new music, regularly commissioning some of the foremost British composers to write new works for full orchestra and mixed-ability ensembles, while LSO Discovery’s programmes give emerging composers opportunities to collaborate, experiment and write for the Orchestra. lso.co.uk/discovery Since 1990, LSO Discovery has been bringing the Orchestra and its music to everybody, through a year-round programme of over 900 workshops and events – an average of three events a day. Through this work we reach around 60,000 people each season – from families to school classes, local singers to adults with learning disabilities, people in hospitals to the next generation of composers and musicians, and many more.

TICKET EXCHANGES & REFUNDS We offer a flexible exchange service. Tickets can be exchanged for another LSO concert or Barbican credit vouchers valid for six months, provided that you inform the Box Office and return any physical tickets at least 24 hours before the performance (two weeks for group bookings). A per ticket administration fee applies for all exchange services. The LSO reserves the right to change artists or programmes if necessary; bookers will be informed and be able to make an exchange. If an event is cancelled, bookers will be offered an exchange or refund.
