Mozart Quintet in E-flat major Mozart Serenade in C minor London Winds Michael Collins director Leon McCawley piano An ensemble of Britain’s finest wind players present two chamber works by Mozart. Conductor Gianandrea Noseda puts the LSO through its paces ahead of this Barbican concert on 29 September. Works include Shostakovich Symphony No 6.

Intense brushes of Mediterranean musical colours – from fado to flamenco – permeate the elegant landscapes of Dutch singer Nynke’s inimitable chanson creations. Sung in Frisian – her music nurtures a strong sense of communion by re-establishing spiritual bonds with the land.

UNSOUND: LUSTMORD + PIANOHOOLIGAN Welsh-born, California-based Brian Williams (aka Lustmord) brings his solo audio-visual show to London. Having first emerged as an associate of industrial outfit SPK in the 80s, Williams embarked on a solo career which has seen him at the forefront of dark and daring ambient music for over 30 years. Polish jazz pianist and composer Piotr Orzechowski (aka Pianohooligan) completes the double bill. One of the most awarded musicians of his generation, the 23-year-old received first prize at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition and has collaborated with an eclectic list of artists including Krzysztof Penderecki and Adrian Utley from Portishead. DISCOVERY DAY: SHOSTAKOVICH FOR ALL AGES OVER 12

An in-depth Discovery Day on Dmitri Shostakovich. The day will begin at the Barbican with access to an LSO rehearsal with Gianandrea Noseda. In the afternoon, musicologists Michelle Assay and David Fanning will discuss the life and work of Shostakovich, paying particular interest to his Sixth symphony, followed by a performance of one of his string quartets by players from the LSO.
