LIONS’ LAST LINE The Lions closed out the home portion of their 2013-14 slate on Feb. 22 with a 91-67 setback to visiting BYU. Lion seniors Hazel Ramirez, Mackenzie Kerins, Melinda Gomez and Alexis Love were honored in a pre game ceremony prior to their final appearance in Gersten Pavilion. Ramirez would finish the day with 22 points and a pair of assists while sophomore Deanna Johnson led LMU with 23 points. A back-andforth battle early, the Lions used a 7-0 run capped by a pair of Ramirez free throws to trim a 10-point deficit down to just three, 22-19, with 9:35 to play in the first half. Led by Kim Beeston, who finished with a game-high 27 points, the Cougars would pull away in the final 10 minutes of the half, outscoring LMU 34-10 to carry a 56-29 advantage into the break. Early in the second half, Ramirez and Johnson combined for a 14-2 run, capped by seven straight Ramirez points, to cut the deficit down to 14, 62-48, with 14:55 to play. But the Lions would get no closer as BYU held on down the stretch.
