2005wccreview est Coast Conference baseball competition continues its long history in 2006. After years of a two-division format, the league will alter the format for the 2006 season. Each team will meet for one three-game series, with the top two teams advancing to the WCC Championship Series. The winner of the title series wins the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. LMU, Pepperdine, Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Diego, Portland and Gonzaga comprise the baseball alignment. Gonzaga and Portland, long-time members in every other conference sport, joined the league in baseball in 1996 after migrating from the Pacific-10 North Division. Baseball was originally established as a conference sport in 1968. From 1977-84, WCC teams competed with teams from the Big West Conference in the Northern California Baseball Association (Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, and Santa Clara), and the Southern California Baseball Association (LMU, Pepperdine, and San Diego). The WCC sponsors championships in 13 sports for men and women: baseball, men and women’s basketball, women's crew, men and women’s cross country, men and women's golf, men and women’s soccer, men and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball.
