Studio Brief Title: Brief 9: Gone Girl Synopsis: As a self initiated brief, I decided to produce a series of three cover redesigns of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel Gone Girl, about a woman who goes missing on the morning of her fifth wedding anniversary. I have developed concepts that play on Amy’s ‘disappearance’, both through the use of photography and type. List of deliverables

I will blog this under the module codes ‘OUGD603’, ‘OUGD603: Design Practice’, ‘New Brief 9: Gone Girl’ and ‘New Brief 9: Context’. I will produce three printed dust jackets.
Evaluation: I feel that my strength in this brief has been the development of the concepts: I found it quite challenging to create and refine them, as I wanted them to appear similar so that they would work as a series, but also have enough strength to work individually. I also feel that the covers suit the audience they are targeted at and would appeal to both crime and mystery readers. I feel that my weaknesses have been in the production of the dust jackets, as though I have done my best to produce them well, I do not have access to the stock that would be used in a professional environment and so this affects how the final visuals that I have printed look. If I had to do this brief again, I would make an effort to search for a stock more similar to professional dust jackets so that my work would look more finished.
