Studio Brief Title: Brief 2: Art and Design Interdisciplinary Yearbook Synopsis: Working in collaboration with Mike Williams and Suzanne Moore, we have created and executed the yearbook concept ‘Co-ordinates’ for Art and Design Interdisciplinary. Our concept is about collaboration and the connections that link this diverse course together. This has been communicated visually using a grid coordinate system, whilst the unusual format we have chosen (A2 fold out posters) reflects the individuality of the course.

I will blog this under the module codes ‘OUGD603’, ‘OUGD603: Design Practice’, ‘New Brief 2: Yearbook’ and ‘New Brief 2: Context’. As a group, we will produce a print ready publication, as well as producing mock up examples of how the layouts would look once printed that will be on my blog.

Evaluation: This brief has been a very interesting and valuable experience for myself, Suzanne and Mike. From completing this brief we have had to learn to communicate diplomatically, compromise and adapt to our client’s needs, whilst also trying to assert our design knowledge and successfully produce an interesting publication. I feel that our strengths in this brief have been our ability to adapt to the needs of both the course, the printers and the budget, which is evidenced in our unique yearbook format, which was inspired by more lofi publications we had researched into. We have also time managed and organised this project to the best of our ability, and I feel that we have managed to visually communicate a very conceptual idea in a way that is easily understandable and aesthetically strong and interesting. Improvements could have been made to the development of the yearbook’s content, as the yearbook has very little additional contribution from the course leaders in comparison to other course’s yearbooks, however, this is an issue we attempted to resolve and the extra content was ultimately the responsibility of the course and not us. If we were to do this project again, I think we would be much more assertive with the course and be more confident in putting across our design knowledge and opinions.
