We use to read or write, check out or develop what is on hand and what is right, just from what we actually have (instead of beginning with what is lacking or does not work). We consider the city and living conditions, or civility and occupation as both sides of one and same question. We tackle people and places, by gazing at social and urban forms from a spatial and anthropological point of view. Our work method is trans-disciplinary; it lies on the boarders of expertise in architecture, art, landscape architecture, literature, philosophy, psychoanalysis and sociology. Our agency was founded in 1997 by Chantal Deckmyn, architect-urbanist and sociologist. Lire la ville is a non-profit-making association of general interest; it is registered as a training organization. Lire la ville is a pilot experiment in Europe.
