Neo Sans Paneuropean Sebastian Lester Ursprünglich wurde die Neo Sans von einer Markenagentur in Auftrag gegeben. Verlangt wurde eine „ultramoderne Schrift, die futuristisch sein sollte, ohne verspielt oder flüchtig zu wirken“.

Der Designer Sebastian Lester nahm sich dieses faszinierenden Schriftenprojektes an, aber schon bald wurde das Vorhaben wegen einer bürokratischen Entscheidung abgebrochen. „Mir blieb ein Skizzenbuch voller Ideen und ich dachte, dass es eine Schande wäre, sie nie auszuarbeiten“, sagt Lester. Er entschied, das Design in eigener Regie fertigzustellen.

Lesters Recherche untermauerte die Annahme, dass der wichtigste Bestandteil einer „ultramodernen“ Schrift die Schlichtheit der Charakterstruktur ist: eine sorgfältig gezeichnete, monolineare Form, offene Buchstabenformen und glatte, starke Kurven.

Die Neo Sans gibt es in sechs Stärken von Light bis Ultra, jede davon mit einem Italic-Schnitt. Neo Sans ist jetzt auch mit erweitertem Zeichensatz inklusive Kyrillisch und Griechisch erhältlich.

Originally, Neo Sans was commissioned by a branding agency.

It had to be “an ultra modern font, which should be futuristic without being playful or fleety”. Designer Sebastian Lester took on this intriguing custom font assignment, but soon, a bureaucratic decision cancelled the project. “I was left with a sketchbook full of ideas and thought it would be a shame not to see what came of them,” says Lester.

He decided to finish the design on his own.

Lester's research confirmed that the principal ingredient of an ‘ultra modern’ typeface was simplicity of character structure: a carefully drawn, monoline form, open letter shapes and smooth, strong curves. To conceive a typeface that crossed the line from modern to futuristic, Lester decided to amplify these qualities.

Neo Sans is available in six weights ranging from light to ultra, all accompanied with an italic style.

Now, Neo Sans is also available with an extended character set including Cyrillic and Greek.
