The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department relies on many volunteers to help programs and events succeed throughout the year. Volunteering with us is a great way to meet and socialize with others, help fellow community members and have fun! DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE As the weather begins to cool and the beautiful fall season approaches, your Parks and Recreation Department invites you to visit your parks and participate in the programs and events we have created for you. We strive to provide something for everyone! The fall is wonderful time of the year to participate in the many special events offered through your Parks and Recreation Department. Mark your calendars for these family friendly, fun special events: · Touch-a-Truck - Join us at our Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, September 9 in Proesel Park and take a close-up look at big trucks! Kids and adults alike will be able to touch and even climb aboard many super-sized vehicles in a safe environment. · Family Fun Fest – On Sunday, September 17, we encourage you to join us at Centennial Park for our 5th annual Family Fun Fest from 1-3pm. This family-friendly, free event is the perfect opportunity to visit our beautiful Centennial Park and participate in a variety of activities including games, kayaking, a bounce house and a bike safety clinic. · Pumpkins in Proesel – a family-friendly Halloween party on Saturday, October 21 at the Proesel Park shelter from 1-3pm. Crafts, a bounce house, Halloween-themed games and refreshments are sure to get you in Halloween spirit. Costumes are strongly encouraged! · Lincolnwood Annual Turkey Trot – Our 41st annual Lincolnwood Turkey Trot will be held on Sunday, November 19 and is the official kick-off to the Holiday season! This CARA certified 5K and 10K race features a flat, fast course perfect for novice as well as experienced runners. A 5K fitness walk and Drumstick Dash (for children 6 years of age and younger) round out this premier event. Beyond these events and variety of programs in this brochure, we hope you will choose to participate in our new GO Lincolnwood program. GO Lincolnwood is a community-wide fitness initiative that encourages you to commit to walking 30 minutes a day for health, wellness and enjoyment of the outdoors. Walking is a perfect activity for the entire family and wonderful way to get connected to Lincolnwood’s network of community and neighborhood parks and the beautiful recreation paths including the Valley Line Trail, Centennial Park Trail and the Union Pacific Path. As a Parks and Recreation Department we are passionate about encouraging our community to choose an active and healthy lifestyle and the benefits of walking are endless. To participate in GO Lincolnwood, stop by our office to pick up a walking log to begin tracking your walks or visit our GO Lincolnwood website at www.golincolnwood.com to print out a log. Tracking your walks is a great way to stay committed to moving every day and seeing just how far you have come. It only takes 30 days to make a new, positive habit!! K-5th Grade Our new Winter Break Camp features a different field trip each day, including bowling, laser tag, indoor swimming, ice skating and more. We’ll also have a different theme each day, where kids will enjoy art projects, active games, educational games and team building activities. And if weather permits, we’ll have outdoor fun, too! Community Center Rental PLANNING AN EVENT? WE HAVE THE PERFECT VENUE! The Lincolnwood Community Center is the perfect venue for your next party. The facility is ideal for meetings, family parties, birthdays, showers, and any other type of social gathering. The Community Center features two indoor spaces. Choose from our large room, which provides a light, airy space that can accommodate up to 200 guests; or our small room, which provides a warm, intimate setting for up to 40. Both rooms feature hardwood floors perfect for dancing or socializing. For an additional fee, your guests will be able to enjoy our outdoor patio, complete with wrought iron patio tables and umbrellas, which can seat 16 and accommodate up to 35 guests.

This CARA Certified 5K/10K race winds through scenic Lincolnwood and features a flat, fast course perfect for novice as well as experienced runners.

Race place medals will be awarded to the 1st – 3rd place finishers in each age division, male and female, in each race.

A 5K Fitness Walk and Drumstick Dash (for ages 6 & younger) round out this historic running event.

Awards will also be given to the top male and female Lincolnwood finisher in each race, and to each male and female overall winner in each race.

MY FIRST MARATHON YOUTH RUNNING CHALLENGE

My First Marathon is a youth running challenge that encourages kids to walk or run 1 mile on their own (with adult supervision) 25 times over the summer and fall. Kids will record their completed miles on a printed log sheet, available on our website. Then, on race day, kids will run their final 1.2 miles with the other marathon participants. Race Day (the final 1.2 miles) is on Saturday, October 7 at 9 am at the Valley Line Trail. Fee includes race shirt, bib, medal and snacks.

YOUTH GYMNASTICS

A cooperative program offered by the Morton Grove Park District & School District 219. Classes are available at Prairie View Community Center (PVCC), and Niles West High School, which has equipment for all Olympic gymnastics events and a training foam pit! Classes range from early childhood through 17 years of age. Lincolnwood resident registration begins: August 7- In person at the Morton Grove Park District August 14 –Online at mortongroveparks.com

CENTRAL SUBURBAN LEAGUE YOUTH DEVELOPMENTAL FLAG FOOTBALL Grades: 1-4 This instructional program is led by trained coaches who will develop players’ flag football skills. YOUTH BASKETBALL Grades: K-8 This community-based basketball program is designed to serve all levels of players. The season begins with basketball evaluations in November and December, and then games are played January through March. SWIM AMERICA Ages: 5-15 This progressive learn-to-swim programs takes place at Niles West High School. Children will be assigned a group based on skill level, and will progress through the program as they achieve the goals for each level. All registration is processed through Skokie Park District. HOMEWORK HELP, ARTS & CRAFTS, ATHLETICS, & MORE! The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to partner with School District 74 to offer Club Kid, an afterschool program for Kindergarten– 5th grades during the 2017-2018 school year. Club Kid provides fun, organized activities for the children after school in the Rutledge Hall Multipurpose Room. (Children from Todd Hall are walked to Rutledge Hall by Club Kid staff.) Half day programs are offered on School District 74 half days for an additional fee. This well-rounded program features homework help, arts and crafts, athletics, and more. Club Kid follows the School District 74 calendar, meeting every day that school is in session. FOREVER FITNESS DROP-IN SENIOR EXERCISE Ages: 55 years + For older adults and seniors who want to stay healthy and independent, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends four types of exercise. Strength exercises build muscle and increase metabolism which helps keep weight and blood sugar in check. Balance exercises build leg muscles which help prevent falls. AARP DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE Cars have changed. So have the traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads you travel everyday. By taking this course, you can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s challenging driving environment. You’ll learn to adjust to common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. This eight-hour program is a classroom refresher course for drivers 55 years of age and over. REFUND POLICIES The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing high quality recreation programs and services. We want everyone to be satisfied with their recreation experiences. If you are not completely satisfied with a program or service, please contact us as soon as possible. GENERAL REFUNDS General refunds will be granted when requested five full working days before the start of a program. All refunds are subject to a 10% administrative fee and will be mailed in the form of a check within 4-6 weeks of your request. Charges cannot be reversed on credit cards. Refunds will be honored based off of registration fee, not registration after fee. WHAT HAPPENS ONCE A PROGRAM HAS STARTED? We do understand that there may be a time when the program you registered for didn’t match your needs. If that is the case, we encourage you to share your comments, ideas or suggestions for improvement as soon as possible. If we are unable to work through it together we will refund you for the classes not attended less a 10% administrative fee. In the case of an illness, emergency or relocation Should you need to discontinue participation in a program due to an illness, emergency or relocation, we ask that you submit proof of relocation or a written medical explanation from a physician. Upon receipt we will refund you for the classes not attended less a 10% administrative fee. RENTALS, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, ATHLETIC & PICNIC PERMITS If a rental is cancelled three weeks before the scheduled date, a full refund less a 10% administrative fee is issued. If a rental is canceled 20 days or less before the scheduled date, a 50% refund less a 10% administrative fee will be issued. LINCOLNWOOD SOCIAL CLUB Refunds will be granted on a case-by-case basis. Park Rules and Regulations • All park hours are 6 am - 9 pm (except for Proesel Park, which is open from 6 am - 11 pm). • Alcoholic beverages, smoking, and illegal drugs are prohibited. • Pets are not allowed in the parks (except for Centennial Park and walking paths). Dogs must be kept on leash at all times. • Overnight parking is not allowed at Centennial Park or Proesel Park. • Bicycles must remain on a paved vehicular road or path designated for this purpose. • Proesel Park Shelter, soccer areas, and ball field permits are available through the Parks and Recreation Department. • To report suspicious activity or vandalism in the park, please dial 911.
