The fabric is made by boiling the bark and then placing thin slices onto a cotton polyester backing. Information about NOLA & Louisiana
There are more than 40 museums in New Orleans, in addition to a world-class zoo, aquarium and children’s museum. The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas has over 15,000 sea creatures from almost 600 species and several world-class habitats. Louisiana is the leading producer in southern pine wood. Louisiana’s fishing industry has been the second-largest in America, accounting for 26 percent of all seafood landed in the country and 40 percent of all seafood consumed by Americans each year. New Orleans was one of the major places through which voodoo was introduced into the United States. The particular form that evolved in the city became known as New Orleans voodoo. During the American Civil War, New Orleans was the largest city in the Confederate States of America. More than 6,000 vessels move through New Orleans annually along the Mississippi River, making it the world’s busiest waterway and integral to the country’s economic stability. Louisiana is the second largest refiner of petroleum for consumer use as gasoline and plastic. Page 28
