Old US Mint - 400 Esplanade Ave - Tues through Sun 10 am - 4:30 pm. Built in 1835 during the presidency of Andrew Jackson, who had advocated for its establishment in order to help finance development of the nation's western frontier. WHAT IS 100% GENUINE CORK FABRIC? Cork is harvested from the cork oak tree which is found mainly in coastal areas of Portugal and Spain. The fabric is made by boiling the bark and then placing thin slices onto a cotton polyester backing. The top of the cork fabric is sealed with two layers of waterprooďŹ ng sealant so that nothing can penetrate through. The French Quarter Festival celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year. It was first produced in 1984 as a way to bring residents back to the Quarter; following the World’s Fair and extensive sidewalk repairs in the French Quarter. More than 2,000 community volunteers help to make the French Quarter Festival a success. French Quarter Festival is the largest, free music festival in the South. The French Quarter Festival has 21 stages throughout the French Quarter celebrates local music and represent every genre from traditional and contemporary jazz to R&B, New Orleans funk, brass bands, folk, gospel, latin, zydeco, classical, cabaret, and international.
New Orleans great restaurants, create the “World’s Largest Jazz Brunch” in Jackson Square, the Old U.S. Mint and Woldenberg Riverfront Park during French Quarter Festival weekend. Despite popular misconception, New Orleans is not a Cajun city, though many Cajuns live there. The people, culture and cuisine of New Orleans are Creole, and have a long and distinguished history in the city going back to its founding. Since 1835 the New Orleans & Carrollton Line is the oldest street railway line still in operation. New Orleans was the third largest city in the United States in 1852. Page 28
