I’ve been distracted, detained and otherwise engaged most of the month, my work way down at the bottom of the list of priorities. Sorry, but it’s true. You see, I became a grandmother! That’s Theodore James Collins Spearman in the picture. He was born April 19, 8 pounds and 10 ounces, 21 inches with a glowingly high Apgar Score. He came early and fast and caught us all by surprise, which added to the rawness of emotion that we have all been experiencing. For various reasons that add up to more than an editor’s letter, my daughter was in Atlanta when baby Teddy rocketed into the world and now he and his parents are staying with us a few weeks, filling our home and hearts with more joy than I’d ever thought possible. I sit staring into his deep blue eyes for hours, rocking in the same rocking chair I lulled my own three babies to sleep in years ago. In fact, rather than pushing copy through to my

I am besotted. Those of you who are blessed enough to be grandparents understand what I mean. The overflowing love and calm concern I feel for my (grown) daughter is now doubled, as I spend my hours studying Teddy’s expressions and dreaming of his future. It’s so very bright. R o b e r t B i n k o w s k i “GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS DO NOT COME EASY AND I AM GRATEFUL FOR EVERY EXPERIENCE IN MY PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY THAT MAKES ME A MORE SKILLFUL CRAFTSMAN AND A BETTER HUMAN BEING.” Robert Binkowski believes success is built on this foundation: perform your job with passion to the best of your knowledge and ability, do not be afraid of every day challenges, respect people so they can respect you, be proud of who you are and accomplishments you achieve. He studied industrial engineering, earning a double major in Business and Management. In May 2012, Robert, encouraged and supported by his brother-inlaw, Adam Medrzycki, founded Euro Design, located in Johns Creek. He is encouraged by his wonderful wife and designer, Ewelina, and their entire family. Robert, Ewelina, and their son, Matthew, moved to Shakerag two years ago and they soon became an important part of the community, advising or even helping new neighbors with various home related issues, and financially supporting local institutions and charity initiatives, including Shakerag Elementary School, Northview High School football team and Gwinnett Police Department. “Great accomplishments do not come easy and I am grateful for every experience in my professional journey that makes me a more skillful craftsman and a better human being,” says Robert.

HONORING STRENGTH

(CON TI N U ED)

Mike Hendrickson Mike Hendrickson and his wife, Annette, have lived in the Johns Creek area since 2009 and have two daughters, Regin and Madelyne, who attend Autrey Mill Middle School and both play lacrosse. Mike started coaching after watching his daughters and their friends’ teams struggle to find coaches, so he volunteered to be an assistant at Newtown. Twelve years later, he is still coaching. In the fall, winter, and spring, he leads the Johns Creek High School Junior Gladiators Girls Lacrosse program as the head coach and, and in the summer, he coaches one of the Georgia Outlaws Girls Lacrosse teams. His passion for the game is only second to the passion he has for mentoring his girls on and off the field. He has learned over the years how important team sports can be as it teaches young girls how to put aside their differences and succeed as a team.

Mich a el Ga r r ison Michael Garrison is a native Atlantan and began his ballet training in 1976 with the Ruth Mitchell Studio in Buckhead. After attending the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he danced principal and soloist roles as well as contemporary and modern works. While performing as a guest artist for many companies, he began teaching throughout the Atlanta area and became a much sought after faculty member for many of the area dance schools. In 1997 he established North Atlanta Dance Academy in Johns Creek and the North Atlanta Dance Theatre, a 501c3 non- profit performing company, offering high level performance opportunities to pre-professional students. He not only is the primary trainer but the driving creative force staging full length ballets and original choreography. Scholarships are offered to selected students and although choreographers are paid for their time, he has always contributed his time and talents without compensation. He and his wife, Kitty, are happy to have called Johns Creek their home for the past 22 years.

William C. "Bill" Lusk William C. "Bill" Lusk has been president of the Milton Historic Society since its creation in early 2018. With the generous support of the City of Milton, the Society’s first project was the preparation and installation of 28 historical markers throughout the city. A Milton resident since 1999, Bill served on the Formation Committee to create the city and was a member of the City Council for the first 11 years. In Bill 1986 founded Lusk & Company, a general contracting firm specializing in the construction of churches. He served with the U.S. Naval Construction Battalions (Seabees) during the Viet Nam war. Bill and his wife, Janie, reside on Summit Road, adjacent to the historic Summit School site. They have twin sons, Matthew and Dr. Mark Lusk.

All About ARI JOHNS CREEK'S BEST KOREAN BBQ

ARTICLE KARYN SLOVIN PHOTOGRAPHY KARYN SLOVIN AND PROVIDED

IF YOU LOVE STEAK, HAVE NEVER TRIED KOREAN BARBECUE, AND WANT A TRULY UNIQUE DINING EXPERIENCE, ARI STEAKHOUSE IS A MUST. This lively space in Johns Creek is a family-owned establishment and does an excellent job of mixing the traditional and modern. The owner’s goal was to bring authentic Korean food to America, and all servers speak fluent English. He wants Americans to come and have a real Korean dining experience and also for Koreans to enjoy their traditional cuisine. Service is an important component of the meal because the servers are also the chefs, preparing your meat right before you. Grills sit on top of all tables and the ventilation is beneath the table so it’s like a smoke-free grill. And the presentation is spectacular. To help guests navigate the menu, they have suggested courses so guests can try a variety of beef and other dishes. They have several prix fixe meals that include appetizers, several types of beef, small dishes and dessert, as well as an all-youcan-eat option. The best beef is considered Wagyu, so I decided to have the Wagyu Course. American Wagyu beef comes from Japanese cattle, is all grass fed, and a top grade above prime. 28

CULINARY CREATIONS

Korean cuisine is very communal and meals are accompanied by banchan, small side dishes meant to be shared. Koreans like to start with something light like short rib, then onto something fatty like pork belly or ribeye, then end with something sweet, like bulgogi, marinated in sweet soy sauce. Each dish was flavorful and memorable. Ari’s staff recommend two drinks to accompany their steak: sweet vodka Soju, clear like vodka, made from rice and the most popular drink in Korea. Also, the Juju Mule, similar to a Moscow mule, named after an island in Korea. Dessert presentation is as equally beautiful as the meal. The pistachio and ricotta cake was creamy and delicious, along with macaroons and affogato (ice cream and espresso). And a new signature slushy drink made of Korean citrus fruit called Yuzu, which tastes like a lemon married to an orange and is a super refreshing palate cleanser. Succulent steak, colorful dishes, and a spectacular presentation make for truly unique dining at Ari Steakhouse. 9700 Medlock Bridge Rd Suite 112, Johns Creek AriSteakhouse.com

The FADE

+

what it is There are many different types of fades, but ultimately a fade haircut is one that tapers in length the further down you go on the back and sides, meaning it isn’t trimmed to just one standard length all around. The level of fade (low, mid or high) depends on what point the shortest part of the hair begins to fade into a longer length. ASK FOR Taper fade, low fade, mid fade, high fade or skin fade

The man bun + what it is This popular style is good for many types of hair as long as you have a lot of it. You’ll need length in the front, back and sides generally long enough to at least brush your shoulders. KEEP IT CLEAN Be sure to keep your sideburns and neckline trimmed even as your hair grows out.

straight short

thick + curly long

The quiff

+ what it is Closely related to the pompadour, the quiff haircut requires longer hair in the front and shorter hair in the back. The longer hair in the front is brushed upward and back from the forehead and away from the face. This look can be sleek and shiny for a classic look or texturized and matte for a modern take. ASK FOR Short sides and a long textured top. Be sure enough hair is left on top to brush back instead of standing straight up.
