AS THE SAYING GOES, TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN. And time sure has flown by this year as we can’t believe we’ve put together the final issue of Hendersonville Lifestyle in 2018! It seems like just yesterday we were sitting down to write our January letter to all of you—talking about resolutions and renewal—and yet, here we are, almost time to do it again. There’s a unique perspective that working in publishing brings. While we certainly don’t want to wish our lives away, we’re always looking toward the future. Whether it’s planning our next issue or developing story ideas for the next year, we’re often already fast-forwarded to future months before the current month has even begun. The fast-paced lifestyle this industry calls for can often make it difficult to really settle down and absorb what’s going on around us and, before we know it, the year is over and it’s time to move forward again. So this December, we hope you take the time to slow down a little bit. With the holiday season upon us, we hope you make the time to take it all in. Enjoy your time with family and friends, bask in the magic of the winter season, reflect on past memories you hold closely in your hearts and keep the new ones you create in the present for as long as you can. We’ll take your lead, and we can’t wait to see you next year!

New Year's Eve at Safari's START YOUR COUNTDOWN TO 2019 AT A HENDERSONVILLE FAVORITE ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY RICK MURRAY
EVERYONE LOVES A GOOD CELEBRATION, AND THERE IS NO BETTER TIME FOR ONE THAN NEW YEAR’S EVE. Fortunately, there are numerous entertainment options available in and around Hendersonville, including attending local parties, reveling in downtown Nashville and spending the evening at home waiting for the ball to drop in Times Square. No matter how they choose to ring in the new year, many people like to begin their celebrations by dining out at a favorite restaurant. With New Year’s Eve falling on a Monday this year, most area restaurants will be open for business as usual, so there will be plenty of culinary options. One of the best New Year’s Eve dining options in Hendersonville is Safari’s Brick Oven & Grill Restaurant, located on East Main Street. Safari’s was originally opened near Rivergate Mall and was very popular in the 1990s and early 2000s. Furnished in a jungle and wild animal theme, the restaurant was famous for its expansive food and drink menu. After the original location closed, general manager Ross El-Bobou resurrected the concept when he opened the Hendersonville Safari’s Brick Oven & Grill in December 2017. Featuring many of the original restaurant items, the reborn Safari’s offers a wide array of burgers, salads, seafood, fajitas, and chicken and steak items, with brick oven-cooked pizzas coming soon. This year, Safari’s will be offering its regular food and drink menu as well as a few special entrees. The New Year’s Eve menu will include a lobster and fillet Combo and a seafood feast. Along with the regular drink menu, Safari’s will also be offering Champagne to help set a festive mood. 230 E. Main St., Hendersonville,

"THE BEST WAY WE CAN PROTECT OUR CLIENTS FROM RISK IS TO THINK." Although Tim was successful, it didn’t take too long before he became disenchanted with the approaches and practices of traditional financial management firms. “Wall Street makes the investment process seem mysterious, like the curtain in The Wizard of Oz. The more complex it appears, the more they can charge,” Tim says. “In reality, it’s not that complicated.” Along the way, Tim has also become a champion for transparency and client disclosure in financial advising. “We designed a reporting system that fully discloses our fees, line item by line item,” he says. “We brought institutional sophistication to individual investors.” Tim also has become an outspoken advocate for truth and fairness in the investment industry.

“At times, there has been an absence of ethical focus in the industry,” he says. “At CapWealth, we’ve unmasked that. We developed two philosophies—provable integrity and sophisticated simplicity—that undergird all of our investment practices.” In a career filled with achievements, Tim is most proud of his firm’s ability to defy conventional wisdom. His “think outside the box” approach was most evident during the tech bubble of 1999 and the financial crisis of 2008. During both events, Tim advised clients to pursue strategies that were at odds with many other investment advisers. The results? CapWealth clients endured the crises well,

market environment. “You have to have a strategy that you believe in,” Tim says. “You will live or die by it.” As we approach the end of 2018, Tim has one bit of advice for investors. “Don’t procrastinate. It’s nearly impossible to meet with your accountant, attorney or financial adviser at year-end. The best time to contact them is between Thanksgiving and the 20th of December,” Tim says. “You need to have your financial house in order before making your final tax payment in January.”

W I N T E R’ S REVEL YOUR GUIDE TO A SIMPLE AND STYLIZED NEW YEAR’S SOIRÉE ARTICLE NICOLETTE MARTIN
28
Hendersonville Lifestyle | December 2018
FOLLOWING CLOSELY ON THE COATTAILS OF AUTUMNAL AND WINTER HOLIDAYS, THE CELEBRATION OF THE NEW YEAR CAN OFTEN BE OVERLOOKED DUE TO AN UNDERSTANDABLE DESIRE TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF THE SEASON. But, a holiday that celebrates past memories and the opportunity for both new experiences and a fresh start shouldn’t lack any of the glitz of its celebratory predecessors. Round out the final days of the year reminiscing on or saying goodbye to the experiences—good and bad—of the previous 12 months with a simple end-of-the-year gathering that isn’t lacking any of the glamour.
1
THE DRI N K S
Champagne has long been a traditional drink to toast to the new year. Keep it simple but step up your game with your own DIY Champagne cocktail bar. Consider stocking your bar full of custom Champagne or bubbly choices, festive mixers like cranberry juice or rosemary simple syrup and unique garnishes like fresh fruit and herbs or decorative ice cubes with edible flowers.
2
THE DECO R There’s no need to go out and buy a ton of additional decor when you just decked the halls (quite literally) with holiday ornamentation. Make those decorations work as hard as you did by repurposing all the greenery, pine cones and wood place settings you just couldn’t say no to. Throw in some neutral napkins, some natural twine and some dried orange peels for a woodsy (and fragrant) twist.
