SUMMERTIME IS A MAGICAL SEASON. The kids are out of school, the sunshine seems never-ending and there’s no shortage of adventures that await. For many, summer evokes fond memories of childhood—sleepaway camp, family vacations, swinging as high as you can on the swing set and swimming until your fingers shriveled like prunes. We also celebrate our nation’s independence, host parties for our friends and family and, if we’re lucky, take a scenic road trip! We planned the perfect date night, an ideal summer staycation and fun road trip all close to home in this issue of Chesterfield Lifestyle. We want to remind you why summer is a season of opportunity. When’s the last time you played tourist in your hometown? We invite you to use this issue as your guide to some spectacular sites right here in your own city. We can’t wait to catch all the amazing productions at Stages St. Louis, The Muny, concerts at the Chesterfield Amphitheater and more at our favorite hot spot locations! The trio just opened this Defiance brewpub in April (Thursday-Sunday) to expand from their O’Fallon locations. The Defiance location plays host to live music sessions, private parties and weddings. It can accommodate up to 300 customers, including a patio and rooftop deck. Anyone who wants to park and bicycle to the brewpub enjoys the fact that it’s located on the Katy Trail. Dan says new summer beers are slated to include a summer stout, a citra wheat and a lemonade shandy. Outdoor, family-friendly games are also ready. 2886 S MO-94, Defiance 314.608.2903 22

Summer Splishing and Splashing WATER PARKS THAT WOW
ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON
BOTH KIDS AND ADULTS ENJOY WATER PARKS FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS! TOP 10 THINGS PEOPLE LOVE AT WATER PARKS: 1. Adults can regain a sense of childlike happiness at water parks. Kids are smart when it comes to relaxing. They know how to play at water parks, and adults benefit from following these type of leads from youngsters. 2. Sometimes, it’s just nice to cool off during hot, Missouri summer days. 3. It feels great to let go of inhibitions while hurtling down a water slide—scary perhaps, but great when successfully completed. 4. You can scream your head off—it’s part of the ambiance.
lets, for real. 9. Because a water park isn’t like real life, everyone can have real fun while being a little funny around other fun-filled people. 10. You’re exhausted by the time you get home, and can sleep really, really well! There are a few water destinations worth longer drives, such as Oceans of Fun and Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City and Silver Dollar City’s White Water in Branson. Anyone wishing to be around water without being in the water can consider Sea Life Kansas City, an interactive aquarium located at the Crown Center in Kansas City on the Missouri

MAGAZINE SUGGESTS SAVING YOURSELF
SOME TRAVEL TIME AND MAKING A PLAN TO VISIT SOME OF THE SPECTACULAR VACATION DESTINATIONS LOCATED RIGHT HERE IN ST. LOUIS—ALL WITHIN A 30-MINUTE DRIVE FROM CHESTERFIELD! There is no better place to start your staycation this summer than at the following stops:
THE GATEWAY ARCH Location: 11 N. Fourth St. Why you should go: Now, if this suggestion has you saying to yourself, “been there, seen that,” think again as the newly renovated and expanded Gateway Arch isn’t like anything you’ve ever experienced before. From the start of your tour at the Circa 1839 Old Court House, you will be blown away by the history and ambiance of this 19th Century architectural masterpiece. Once you’ve experienced your initial “walk down memory lane,” your next steps east will take you straight into the new park entrance and into the totally new museum under the Gateway Arch. Expertly themed and filled with interactive exhibits, the Museum encourages your own exploration into our nation's expansion west—every step of the way, thus bringing out the inner explorer and/or pioneer in all of us! And now that you’ve experienced the new state-of-the-art museum, it’s time to journey to the top of St. Louis’s own national monument as you enjoy a tram ride 630 feet into the sky, allowing for you to experience all the majestic beauty of the St. Louis metropolitan region on both sides of the mighty Mississippi. We also suggest that you visit GatewayArch.com for additional information about all the other exciting things happening on the riverfront, including riverboat excursions that are accessible for both day and evening cruises all summer long. 877.982.1410

Whether you plan to enjoy one of their tranquil exhibitions, art exhibits or live music events, the Missouri Botanical Garden has something for everyone to enjoy, all year long. July at the Garden is filled with the continuation of the Whitaker Music Festival, featuring live bands every Wednesday, making for a perfect mid-week evening under the stars. And starting July 6, the Missouri Botanical Garden gives you and your significant other the opportunity to party too as you experience “garden party lights." These events are complete with music, drinks, food and a multimedia light show Thursday-Sunday evenings at the garden through October 19. The Missouri Botanical Garden also has another location for you and your family to enjoy a little closer to home, too. The Sofia M. Sachs Butterfly House is located in Faust Park at 15193 Olive Blvd. in the heart of Chesterfield. Please visit MissouriBotanicalGarden.org to plan your perfect excursion to either of these nature centric locations. 314.577.5100 34

THE MUNY Location: 1 Theatre Drive Why you should go: What’s the perfect staycation if it doesn’t include an entertainment venue? We’ve selected one for you that is embarking upon its 101st season, bringing outdoor theater alive in the midst of beautiful Forest Park. Just like the huge renovation that took place at the Arch the last few years, the Muny is in the midst of its own major renovation, embarking on another 100 years of bringing outdoor theatre to life. According to Tracy Utzmyers, Muny production manager, says the renovations planned throughout the Muny have only just begun. "Even though we are just in the first phase of all the changes planned for the Muny, complete with a new audio/ visual system, a revised orchestra pit and many façade changes that theatergoers will notice," says Tracy, "it is our hope when we are finished, we will have set the stage for the Muny to create another 100 years of outdoor theater magic.” And as expected, the Muny has put together

video company that applies heart to their entire process for clients. Grant provides more than 10 years of camera operation, editing, animation, audio and lighting experience, while Ashleigh offers 10-plus years of graphic design, photography, styling and an eye for details. “We love being visual storytellers. It’s an honor to be trusted with the opportunity to bring someone’s vision to life,” says Ashleigh. “We’re passionate about truly getting to the heart of a story. People want connection and relationships, and video is such an incredible medium to be able to communicate on those levels. When a video shares the real, raw, authentic emotion of a person or business, that’s where it comes alive and the magic really happens.” Videos empower and give everyone a platform and a voice, she explains. Ashleigh often reflects on how videos can impact people and our culture in positive manners. “For someone to offer encouragement to complete strangers regarding life’s 42

challenges, spreading hope and a sense of community when people might feel otherwise, is a powerful tool. And we don’t take that for granted,” Ashleigh adds. Grant believes videos are important because millions of hours of video are watched by millions of people all over the world every day. “People use videos to get information, educate themselves, talk with family, be entertained, earn a living and so much more. If businesses aren’t using video, they aren’t tapping into a tremendous market of people who want to connect with them and their brands.” The Murphys produce various types of videos, such as the following: + Social Content: designed as “bitesized” video content, brand videos, animated graphics and design. + Testimonials: often for businesses regarding products and services. + Events: showing engagements with meaningful calls to action or to highlight key speakers or entertainment. + Graphic video: great for sharing statistics, animations and charts. + Drone videos: a fresh perspective from the sky, guided by FAA-certified drone operator. + Commercials: videos in approved broadcast standards from animation to on-location shoots, including scripting, storyboarding and licensed music. + Fund-a-need: videos that prompt emotional calls to action while providing an inside perspective about organizations and why people would want to donate. Grant says the fast-paced nature of the video industry is always evolving, with something new to learn. “It keeps us on our toes, and we like that!” He predicts more drones, virtual reality interactivity, and 8K technologies
The Murphys say their company name of Two5:7North (pronounced Two, Five, Seven, North) is inspired by the Bible verse 2 Corinthians 5:7, which is "For we walk by faith, not by sight" and that north signifies hands up to heaven, praising everything that God has done in their lives.

WATER FEATURES FIT ALL SORTS OF SPACES
Add Zen to Outdoor Life ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON | PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF WORLD OUTDOOR EMPORIUM READY TO ZIP SOME ZEN INTO YOUR SUMMER? Water features can be added to even the smallest of spaces—all that’s needed is a fountain, vessel or bowl. An immediate, tabletop water feature can even be created by filling an eye-catching ceramic container with water and adding aquatic plants, such as floating lilies and papyrus. Landscape supply specialists at World Outdoor Emporium in St. Charles stand ready to brainstorm ideas with clients about how to plan and develop their personal outdoor oasis. Amy Coe, World Outdoor Emporium office manager, says their team sells, prepares, delivers and installs seasonal outdoor fountains. They also provide winterization, de-winterization and pump services. These fountains use re-circulated water to keep the devices working. “In addition to being fluid outdoor décor, fountains provide calm sounds and relaxing ambiances,” Amy says. “Fountains also help drown out unwanted noise, such as traffic, and they are magnets for attracting birds and wildlife to enjoy for many years.” Outdoor fountains are simple ways to quickly add customized tranquility to one’s outdoor space, whether it’s a meditation garden, a front lawn or a backyard. With the variety of materials, sizes, shapes, styles and colors of outdoor fountains, one can quickly and easily achieve a certain look and feel of a space with an outdoor fountain. WOE.Rocks 46
