Community, leadership, and volunteerism are at the heart of the Junior League of Collin County (JLCC). Since 1976, JLCC, formerly known as the Junior League of Plano, has served the Collin County community as an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

“Without our nearly 1,000 motivated members, we would not be able to have such an impactful presence in Collin

County,” said Junior League of Collin County President Renée Gately. “Last year alone, we gave over 15,000 volunteer hours to our community. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve with the strong, talented, and dedicated women who make up our organization.”

If you’re reading this because the title spoke to you, I know your time is valuable, and I’m going to respect that by getting straight to the point.

In 2024, living through our 40s is a wild ride. I’m here to uncomplicate one part of your world - your personal style. Women want comfortable pieces that create elegant and practical looks… we want to look and feel put together without letting the process of getting dressed for the day turn into a production… are you asking for too much? I’m here to tell you no, you are not. Below you will find uncomplicated and simple suggestions to put looks together with ease.

3. Flats:

Have you seen the theme of COMFORT in everyday style? With that in mind, we can all welcome back the re-emergence of flats in footwear. Make them bright, make them bold, or if you choose to go with a neutral flat, pair them with a pair of socks! If you prefer a heel with your look, kitten heels are a great option as well.

1. Elevated basics:

Wear an asymmetrical hemline, a bold print, or pants with a wide hemline to any look to create an updated and comfortable look. A classic wardrobe piece with a twist will immediately update the look.

2. Artisan Appreciation with Details:

Such as embroidery, pintucks, and embellishments. These details give a nod to the artisans that create our clothing. A simple floral embroidery pattern on jeans, a jacket, or on the collar of a top creates a play on textures, adds color, and can pull together pieces that may not traditionally “pair well.”

Summer 2024 is all about color, and there are no rules. Browns and creams are back as basic neutrals telling gray to “move over and make room…” and if you follow fashion closely, you know that green is having a moment, but everything still goes. Try mixing different shades of the same color to create a chic and “everywhere appropriate” look.

An easy way to add this nod to Parisian elegance in your everyday wardrobe is to add bows with unique textures and uses. A pair of tortoise shell bow earrings, a metallic bracelet, or a hair tie with a bow embellishment is simple to do while not making you feel 12 years old.

Coordinating sets are a comfortable and chic travel look; you will arrive at your destination in style and ready for all different types of weather.

Materials Needed:

• 3-4 Pink Roses

• 3-4 White Roses

• 2 Blue Hydrangea

• 3 Stems of Bupleurum

• 2-3 Blue Delphinium

Uncovered Hormone Mysteries

Eleanor has uncovered a mystery that is mostly unknown but widely experienced by many. It creeps up on them at night, moves like a wave when it's least expected, and is rarely spoken about in even the most intimate of rooms—yet its effects have a grip on half of the population. As a veteran and mother of three, Eleanor thought she had made it through life's toughest battles, only to find out that the greatest one she would face was the fight to uncover the mystery of her hormones. She used her own pain as fuel to educate herself and create a space where women could uncover their hormone mysteries and take control of their health.

When Eleanor and her family moved from Washington D.C. to Allen, she knew that it was the perfect time to transition her Holistic Health and Gut Health specialty to Texas. She wanted to be able to have an in-person experience where she could sit eye to eye with women who had the same issues she had overcome (think chronic migraines and career burnout). Every other Monday Eleanor shares lesson she's learned on her Holistic Hormone podcast.

Eleanor said, "I wanted to create a safe space for them to tell me what they want to tell me." As I look over Eleanor's shoulder, I see a large old-fashioned safe anchored to the wall. It's the perfect symbol of her goal—to create a safe space for women who were looking for real answers to their body’s mysteries. It was in this space that she was able to help a client overcome her chronic gut issues which no medical professional could figure out. Many women live with chronic pain masked by caffeine and a slew of naps to ease their exhaustion. The usual solution is a quick trip to the doctor or maybe even a specialized obstetrician. The most time patients get is on average 15 minutes with only 5 minutes of talk time (according to the National Institute of Health). That narrowing window leaves little time to ask the real questions that can lead to healing. Eleanor believes more time and effort are needed to address the underlying issues that plague women when it comes to weight loss, digestion, migraines, and understanding their menstrual cycle. Armed with a master’s in Integrative Nutrition and a passion for self-discovery, she is ready to help women win the battle as a Holistic Hormone and Gut Specialist.

DIY GOLD LEAF JEWELRY DISHES

supplies you’ll need:

• Wooden bowls, trays, etc.

• Gold leaf (or metallic gold paint)

• Gentle Gold leaf brush

• Mod podge (or gold leaf adhesive)

• Acrylic paint

• Paint brushes

• Painters tape (optional)

steps to do:

• Grab a wooden bowl, some acrylic paint, and a brush.

• Hand paint some paint on one section of the bowl.

• Let the first coat dry and paint another two to three coats of paint until you’re happy with the result.

• Let the paint fully dry.

• I wanted my gold leaf paper to overlap the paint for a layered look, so I took a paint brush and painted some Mod Podge in an overlapping pattern.

• Once the Mod Podge gets tacky, use your hand to apply the gold leaf and accompanying wax sheet.

• Push the gold leaf onto the tacky glue, then remove the top layer of paper.

• Use your fingers to gently push the gold leaf onto the glue a little further.

• Next, use the golf leaf brush to smooth over the whole area and gently wipe away any excess gold leaf. Pay extra attention to the edges.

• Next, smooth the gold leaf section as much as possible, but don’t worry about any imperfections. The organic look of the gold leaf being imperfect gives the piece character.

• Next, work your way to the outer edge.

• Once the gold leaf is perfected, gently brush over the leaf with some Mod Podge to seal it to the bowl.

• Let it completely dry and enjoy!

STRAWBERRY JELLO POKE CAKE

Here's a delightful and easy-to-make poke cake recipe that's perfect for mom

ingredients:

• 1 box white cake mix, plus ingredients listed on the box

• 1 box strawberry Jello mix

• 1 cup boiling water

• 1/2 cup cold water

• 1 tub whipped topping, thawed

• Fresh strawberries for garnish (optional)

directions:

Step 1. Prepare and bake the cake as directed on the box. Let cool for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2. Dissolve strawberry Jello mix in boiling water, then stir in cold water.

Step 3. Poke holes in the cake with a toothpick or chopstick, and pour Jello mixture over the top.

Step 4. Chill cake in the fridge for 2 hours until Jello is set.

Step 5. Serve and enjoy!

This poke cake is sure to be a hit with mom, with its moist cake base and delicious strawberry flavor. It's the perfect sweet treat to celebrate any occasion!

It all started with a simple desire to take his love for the city and share it with others by creating memorable Saturdays filled with excitement and discovery for other families like his. By crafting clever clues and riddles, he leads participants on exhilarating journeys of discovery, turning ordinary things into extraordinary adventures and prizes to whoever solves the riddle. The prizes vary and are all in partnership with local businesses in Allen, furthering his efforts in connecting the community. His initiative to organize the engaging events has transformed weekends into cherished moments of shared joy and exploration.

Jake dreams of making his Saturday adventures a timeless tradition, weaving cherished memories into the fabric of his daughter's childhood and the lives of countless other families in Allen.
