Summary Soviet art history seems to be much studied and described, but information on the poster genre development in minority republics of the USSR, the Latvian SSR and Lithuanian SSR, is lacking. Additional research on the development of Soviet poster,in Latvian and Lithuanian territory and its visual language features is necessary to build a more complete Latvian and Lithuanian art, communication, and historical scenes. The paper aims to provide insight into the common and the different political tendencies of poster visual language and its development over the Latvian and Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic. The main tasks of this work is to gather information about Soviet political posters in the Lithuanian and Latvian territory, to analyze the visual language and to find conclusions on the similarities and differences within it. The scientific literature and Internet resources are used in the paper on specific topics. Paper can serve as a general insight into historical development of Latvian SSR and Lithuanian SSR political poster genre. The paper describes the poster, history and development of the poster as a political and ideological media in the Latvian SSR and Lithuanian SSR historical context frames. The visual language of posters is described with specific examples in this paper . The political situation in the Latvian SSR and Lithuanian SSR was not significantly different, so there was also similarities between the Soviet political posters in Latvian SSR and Lithuanian SSR. Lithuanian SSR artists had closer contacts with progressive Polish poster school, that is why new trends came in a little bit earlier.
