Art Work “The Short Stories of the Balts” Marija Giliova Faculty of Arts, Siauliai University
Summary In order to create art (fine art) work which would reflect the theme of the Balts unity, history of the two Baltic nations, I have chosen black-white-grey colours and a technique which is unusual to me. Contemporary artist has to change, experiment constantly so that not to stay in one place. Therefore, this work as well as the chosen technique is my little experiment. The work is composed of several various format canvases which all together create one whole having playful composition. This work is as if from separate details, short stories, memories and various “messages” for the viewer. Using the elements of architecture, city, people’s silhouettes, print separate images are created which are united by the same thought. The technique is mixed, various means are used: ink, black lead, highlighter, elements of collage, etc. In the creation process I have studied the history of the Balts, how the life of those nations changed in the course of time. In seeking the unity, the most precious values are sacrificed and the sacrifice of the whole nation is not only important, but also the work and attempts of every man. In order to achieve big things, it is necessary to start from the little ones.
