Image seniors give advice for the future
F
rom walking to the end of the Earth to get to a class in the trailers to suffering through Saturday detentions because of the strict phone policy of earlier years, to fleeing the Homecoming Dance because of a “fire,” the Class of 2013 has seen it all. It’s been a crazy four years. Full of good memories and bad. We’ve all made friends we’ll keep in touch with forever, and others that have developed more of a “frenemy” status. We’ve had nights where we stayed home to study, and nights where we “just watched movies with friends” (and ones where we actually did). And all of us have at least one teacher who inspired us to chase a certain career, or even just to study and make a good grade. While some of these memories are better than others, they all are now part of who we are. So, however excited you are to get onto the rest of your life, make sure to remember all the things that helped you along the way. Write to that teacher who inspired you, shoot an email to a friend you haven’t talked to in a while and make sure to thank your parents for all they put up with these 18 years. But as important as remembering the past, look forward and make a promising future. Yes, high school is over. And whether your plans for next year is staying at home, working, going to college or traveling the world, the end of high school is a crossroads. Behind you stands the life you’ve known for 18 years, and the comforts of your past. Ahead lies everything your life could be. But rather than dreading having to leave the life you know behind, choose to focus on the lifetime of opportunities and fun memories that lie ahead. Don’t wait for your life to start. There is no play or pause button. So don’t wait for opportunities to cross your path; chase them down. Just as Dr. Seuss said, “Oh the places you’ll go,” you actually have to go. So apply for that internship that seems like a reach, take the promotion you don’t think you have time for and try that strange French dish just because. Because, in the end, your life is the sum of all these little things. And 30 years from now, you have to live with your decisions. So form a life you are proud of, but make sure to have fun along the way.

What Would Seniors Do? A little advice Emmy Alicea: Take Finite Math. Maddie Abell: Senioritis is real. Beware. Brittany Boone: Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Mallory Brown. Play hacky sack. Allen Burdge: Work hard. It counts. Makenna Burton: It goes a lot faster than you think. Work hard and get good grades but don’t spend all your time on school work. Make lots of memories and lots of friends, and experience as many new things as possible. LeAnna Cates: Do not let any small obstacles get in the way of your dream. There is always a new path to get where you want to be. Always believe in yourself. Andrew Cremeen: Essays can still be written at 4 a.m. the day they’re due. John Cronin: Actually try; college costs a lot. Victoria Day: Leave with no regrets. Sean Donovan: Don’t breeze through your last year or count the days; embrace and enjoy as much as you can, because there’s always some things you’ll miss and might never experience again. Even Edelmann: Your time at Lafayette goes a lot faster than you think; enjoy your time. Megan Ferguson: Don’t wish your high school years away. Enjoy it while you can. One day you’re a freshman and one day you will blink and you’ll be a senior, thinking where all the time went. Rebecca Ferman: Join the marching band. You’ll find amazing people in it. Hannah Finley: Go to all the dances, even if people say they’re lame, and make every second of high school count. It’ll fly by and you’ll be graduating before you know it. Tyler Finney. Run to your car. Jesse Foster: Take flex classes. Patrick Glass: It’s over fast. Josh Goede: Stop seeking happiness. Happiness comes from happiness, so it comes as easy as it goes. But joy is a way of life, an attitude. Joy comes from being forgiving to all, never lying and doing what you truly feel is right in your heart. Christina Gothberg. Don’t push yourself last semester senior year, procrastination is a pain! Brandon Helbig: When school gets tough, keep your chin up. Things will get better. Sarah Helderle: Find five awesome friends and stick with them. Madi Herrboldt: As much as you want high school to be over with, try to enjoy it because it goes by very fast. Shawn Higginbotham: Become official editor or member of Wikipedia. When you “Control +C”, “Control+V” they can’t say you didn’t write it. They don’t know! Jaclyn Higgins: Don’t call the intruder alert, whatever you do!
Grant Hinton: Beat Eureka and Marquette. Joey Houston: Keep on keepin’ on. John Huber: Stay fresh. Daniel Icet: Don’t act like a freshman. Jacqueline Jarboe: Get involved and meet people. It makes school less boring. Audrey Kamper: Layer, because for a school that has pretty good test scores, we still can’t seem to figure out how to maintain the appropriate temperature inside the building. Madison Karas: People will always judge you for your mistakes, but how you react is what really matters. Always keep your head up and remember who you are. Annie Lamers: Just be yourself. If someone doesn’t like you for it, then you don’t need them. Madeline Laux: Have fun. Wyatt Lear: Your studies are very important, but remember to take breaks and relax from responsibilities to enjoy yourself. If not, your high school experience will be fast, painful and filled with regret. Derek Legenzoff: Anyone can tell you to get involved or play nice. But more importantly, remember to stay positive and just make sure to have a good time—to a limited extent. Bentley Leonard: Make sure to go to every school even you can: dances, games, fundraisers… everything! So then when you graduate you can leave high school with great memories and no regrets. Alan Lu: Become a reverend. Seth Ludwig: Shoot for the moon. But remember, if you miss you’ll slowly suffocate in the cold darkness of space. Daniel Menees: Enjoy and get the most out of high school because it goes by so fast. Work hard and get good grades because it will carry you far in the long run. Drew Miller: Stay out of the middle of the hallways. Molly Monash: Don’t stare at the clock during class. It makes time pass at least 10 times slower. EJ Myers: Have fun and take easy classes. Lauren Nicastro: Do your homework even if it’s not for points. Nathaniel Noss: Procrastination is good. Ashley Overy: You have to put in the work early to have an easy senior year. Raine Parker: Work hard, study hard and if you want to do something, do it or you’ll regret it. Connor Parsons: Even though school sucks, try to make the best of it and have fun. Morgan Poisson: Do not be quick to judge. By the time senior year rolls around, your class will be one big family! Mollie Pownall: Enjoy your time here – people will tell you it goes by fast and you can ignore
it, but when you near the end you realize how right they were. So live in the moment and have fun. Todd Poynter: Work hard your freshman and sophomore years so that you can relax your junior and senior years. Mason Pramod: Take as many AP classes as you can. They really pay off. Grace Rector: Take Flex classes before you leave, particularly ones taught by Jean Peters. Josh Ripp: Do not procrastinate. It’ll only cause you to have more work to do in less time. Kaitlyn Roberts: Leave the drama at the door, and do the homework. Even though it doesn’t count, IT COUNTS. Angela Robinson: Be yourself and have fun. Hallie Roll: Find truly loyal friends. They will be your crutch when everything else around you crumbles. You won’t survive without them. Kiara Sanchez: Work hard and get a great ACT score! Hannah Schneider: Shake off the little things, they’re not worth it. Laugh and have fun. Kelly Shaw: Get as involved as possible. Nick Sherwood: Do what’s important to you. Samuel St. Clair: Don’t eat the cafeteria hotdogs! Michael Sticksel: Think why instead of what. Danielle Tolmais: Don’t succumb to high school drama. Bigger and better things await you. McKayla Treat: Don’t let stupid drama get in the way of enjoying high school – you don’t have forever here. Alex Voss: Don’t change who you are to fit in; it’s only high school, and when it’s over the number of parties you went to or people you dated or even how popular you were won’t matter. It’s the rare real “I’d do anything for you” friendships you make that stay with you through college. You’ll discover that everything else doesn’t matter. David Wang: Work hard. Play hard. Nina Wessel: Don’t be in such a rush to graduate. It really does go by in the blink of an eye, so enjoy it while you still can. Mason Wilke: Do not miss too many days of school. I cannot miss one more day for the rest of the semester and knowing you can’t have a “sick day” sucks. Tyler Williams: Just stick through it, and enjoy every moment you can. Madison Wilson-York: Underclassmen, don’t start slacking! Stay serious about school and maintain decent grades, because senior year will pop up before you know it. You don’t want to regret not trying when it’s too late and you’re filling out college applications. Jamison Wipke: Be yourself; avoid negative influences.
