FOREHEAD Leda Maria is proud to present the 14th Annual International Women’s Day in honor of International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day first began in New York City in 1911 and has historically been utilized to call attention to the many hardships and oppressions faced by women throughout the world. The Suffragettes founded International Women’s Day to unite and empower women in their fight for equality and to this day, it continues to inspire individuals to persevere in the face of adversity, celebrate powerful women, and organize direct action to further our progress as a society towards the abolishment of gender inequality.

This year, we celebrate by presenting an exhibition in honor of the monumental achievements of women throughout art history. The International Women in Art features a diverse, international collection of talented, female-identifying artists of varying ages.

There are more women making serious art than men, yet men still get the projection more often.

Women challenged by their expected traditional homemaking image, explode with fearless uninhibited expression, they are more likely, to be honest, and professional in their fight for their justifiable place in the Art World.

Leda Maria now presents her fourteenth annual women’s show with my curatorial skills and persistence had reached out to the world for the most talented women artist that I could find…

The decisions were not easy, there is too much talent by too many women artists.

About Curator: She was born in Brazil, and hold a degree in art history (MFA), at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado - FAAP, and Fine Arts degree at Faculdades Integradas Teresa D'Avila ( BFA) FATEA. Art History at Lorenzo Di Medici School in Florence - Italy, printmaking & Sculpture at The Art Student League of NY, and at Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture.

She has been published in Several Magazines, newspapers, numerous art catalogs and art publications in Brazil as well in Europe, Asia, and USA, and also achieved few awards for her own art.

VISUAL ARTIST | COSTA RICA Artist Statement

Each ink stroke appeared in dreams. In the morning, I translated this sense of interconnections as an imaginal vision in which everything happens in lines that interconnect beyond time and space.

Drawing is the scaolding not only of image but also of consciousness, where the line connects, traces routes, roads that meet or depart. I translated this sense of interconnections, that pareidolia eects lead me to interpret as super strings, entanglements of quantum physics, but above all, they are a window to a landscape in which everything happens in images that interconnect beyond time and space.

I choose to live and draw as part of a whole without judgment or prejudice. Drawing a line with the Universe disables the individuality of Ego, leading me to the unknown but inner felt Absoluteness.

My drawings are an active share meditation.

I try to reflect their spirit using the color, light, textures and movement inherent in all creatures, living and inert beings; to show their purest beauty and intention. The new digital techniques allow me to greatly expand the possibilities of expression, both at the time of making them and how to capture them, and can be presented on various materials with different effects.

My biggest satisfaction as an artist, is to be able to express my feeling through each of my pieces. My art comes from the real, sincere, and passionate need to tell a unique experience and I feel satisfied if my vital memory transcends.

Each of my pieces are meant to move the viewer to its own feelings, not only move but shake the feelings.

Since I passionate love life, I do love art too. My work is figurative, full of flat patterns and lines, I express movement in a tridimensional way, expressed in dierent materials such as: marble, wood, stone, bronze, metal, and resins.

My twenty years of experience on art has taken me to show my work out of Costa Rica. Art is my life, which always takes me to the same destiny‌.my enriched soul by it.

VISUAL ARTIST | CANADA Artist Statement My favorite medium is acrylic to capture movement and life quickly and fluidly from my mind. Each brush stroke is about the translation on my inner world in movement and colors. I let the brushes dance and the colors sing with no expectations. I watch the characters and graffiti born on my canvas as a spectator and I rarely know upfront what the finished painting will look like. The shapes, textures, and colors build upon themselves into my inner monologue where force, softness or rage come to life and are welcomed. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the people around them, to discover beauty in unusual places and to celebrate the strongness of women’s and the marks they make on the world.

Beatrice Aronas was born in Lithuania where she graduated from Vilnius University with a major in Journalism, but art and creativity were always a major part of her life and continue to be now ,as she lives and creates in New York.

Her art is influenced by the ZENTANGLE drawing method and most of her work is done using ink. As a certified Zentangle teacher she uses this form of art for relaxation and stress relief, teaches workshops in small retreat groups, and often appears as a presenter at wellness events in addiction rehabilitation centers.

She believes that art can change our lives, create peace around us and connect people in the most genuine way.

She is inspired by life's daily moments, nature, poetry, travel and music.

Beyond art ...Push creation to amaze, surprise, incite wondering ... What is, and could be, imagine, dare the freedom to invent a world.

The beginning and the end result of the work is a continuous process of moments present an evolution of becoming a painting, a story in itself, from which emerges a new vision of a preconceived idea, such as the human being in his personal journey.

The freedom to choose the subject and to comment I represent it. I stroll between figuration and abstraction. Palpable feelings, as I say, I paint emotions. I wish the observer to feel his own emotion but with as much intensity and depth as I do when creating my work. VISUAL ARTIST | BRASIL "I am Brazilian woman, and the biggest feature of my work is the relationship between the feminine and its different.

The screens colors used in profusion reflect my northeastern origins and the three years that I spent in Africa in early childhood, giving rise to a differentiated and joyful naive art, but that is engaged in valuing the feminine strength in overcoming the difficulties imposed on different women.

My art is extremely personal. I always look into my heart and express my dreams and memories.

The paintings are made on screens of different sizes, using mixed techniques with acrylic paint and oil pastel. They portray groups of women in different daily situations, highlighting the affection and union between them."

My work always responds to my concern about the inequality that exists in the world between men and women, which is why I have been denouncing this fact for years.

I am lucky to have immigrated a long time ago in a country, Spain, that the institutions are fighting for gender equality are in the consciousness that support projects not only of Spanish women, but also all the places in the world as long as they are to dignify the work of women and move forward to achieve gender equality. My wish is that the other countries of the world take an example.

That these laws can be modified because, finally, it is not about the physical truth, but also about the law, the just, the same work as the salary.

All this is what I intend to denounce with my work in which lines of representation of the female figure are always represented, as well as in this case, on a colored background or on a transparent record, with the same eect as the fact that, in the matter of mistreatment, everything that refers to women is transparent, it is usually seen through the facts, how and what does not exist.

I’m Fascinated with Circus, Acrobats and Ballerinas, I love to see them jump in the air, without fears or worries, as if they were invincible. To see them in action is a magical moment for me, it’s indescribable.

I’m very positive and colorful artist and I always think I’m going to be able to transform my imagination and a papier-mâché into a piece of art. I’m not always right, but never discouraged

I love what I do and what I desire with my art is to capture this magic of the whirling or jumping of a ballerina or the movement of an acrobat as it launchs into air.

As I improve my abilities as an artist I also try to challenge my imagination and creativity in order to capture a unique and spontaneous movement. My intention is to make you fell the jumping, hold your breath and most of all, smile.

 Artist Statement My creative and artistic process is linked to deep analysis and writing. First, I reflect, then I translate those thoughts and ideas on letters and paper.

Finally, I translate them on dierent media such as canvas, papers, stones, wood, among others.

My artistic themes are always related to human behavior in society and nature surrounds it.

The textures I prepare are made up of discarded fabrics, papers and objects; through manipulation, these materials achieve to communicate the message I desire in an abstract way. Color, in my artistic work, is fundamental; giving great emphasis and importance to the glazes, spots and strokes defined.

VISUAL ARTIST | CANADA Her artistic approach is oriented around the mystery and the unconscious, in an attempt to identify and capture the unspoken. Influenced by the work of Carl Jung and his definition of the unconscious and the archetypes, she is guided by the underlying forces coming from the unconscious. She attempts to capture the archetypal images at work behind our actions and social movements. She listens to buried symbols from different cultures and civilizations and her researches result in the birth of symbolic figures carved in stone. For Jung, to recognize the existence and influence of the collective unconscious is to recognize that "we are not of today, nor yesterday, we are of great age". Similarly, when she addresses the stone, she begins an adventure, a journey. The characters that emerge represent mythical beings and timeless, archetypal forces from our human history. Technically, she is attached to the representation of the human body, not tinged with realism, but through the round, simple and stylized shapes, lines, suggestions, reflecting mainly the soul, the expression, the sensuality, the emotion.

VISUAL ARTIST | CANADA NATOO is a French-Canadian artist born in Paris in 1975.

At 14 years old, she began learning sculpture during 9 years specially living models.

During this, at 19 years old, she made a training at Les Beaux-arts de Versailles.

Living in MontrĂŠal since 2002, she took classes at university in History of Art at UQAM.

She sculpts with pottery’s technics, sculptures are made of glazed fired clay or raw sometimes she adds Pewter.

In my long artistic career, the inspiration for the work of the great masters has always been constant. Often her personal life, which I study passionately, was the awakening to new works that I develop in my own way and with a lot of respect for the characteristics of each one, culminating today in my way of painting also very unique and personal. In these works that I now present in “Women Art 2020”, Frida Kahlo sparked my interest in her passion for life, for the strong but delicate colors, the sharp and decisive streak, the unusual composition but above all the intimate message that she transmits bluntly or modesty, showing that she is a woman of great struggle against the misfortune that has always surrounded her personal life, for the idea of transmitting the characteristics of her people, but also of an enormous hope for all that life could offer, always fighting for dignity of being a woman and Mexican.

Women and flowers are my favorite themes. My work represents women's diversity through their unique personalities, challenging expressions, and personal stories.

The Flowers alternate as ornaments setting the mood on the women paintings, and as the main character representing life with their vibrant colors and strong presence. Red is my favorite color and is present in almost all of my paintings.

My work is one to be seen and felt, and for this reason, I use my personal relief technique, using spoons to reach the results that allow the observer a tactile experience.
