Class 26 worked with the City of Grand Island Parks & Rec Department to complete a project which added 6 signs to the Hike & Bike Trails that provide the community with information about the trails, safety guidelines and distance markers.

Leadership Tomorrow is an educational program offered by Hall County Leadership Unlimited, Inc., a non-profit corporation formed in 1987. Congratulations to the graduates of Leadership Tomorrow Class 26. On behalf of the board of directors of Hall County Leadership Unlimited, I congratulate you on your commitment over the past year. The completion of the Leadership Tomorrow program has enabled each of you to expand your leadership skills along with providing access to a vast array of perspectives, resources and mentors. It is my hope that you will continue to pursue leadership roles in your life and have a positive impact in our community. It is now time to act upon the tools given to you and put them to use. I am proud to announce to you the happenings of the Hall County Leadership Unlimited Board. The board has been very busy and I am happy to report Youth Leadership Tomorrow is going again!!! The Youth Leadership Tomorrow graduation is July 12th. Please plan to attend as we congratulate some of the outstanding youth in our community!! The Taste of Grand Island and the 13th Annual LT Golf Classic was a huge success!! The board is now preparing for the 10th Annual Tom Dinsdale Automotive/Leadership Tomorrow Duck Pluck, LT2 Alumni Association activities and future programs for LT. Thank you board members and Tammy for your commitment to Leadership Tomorrow. All of this is not possible with out the support of the community. As I look back at the experiences of the past year, I appreciate the great opportunity I have been given to work with Class 26, to collaborate with great leaders in our community, and to invest in the future of Hall County. I would like to congratulate and commend Class 26 for their commitment to leadership in their profession and community. This outstanding group surpassed all of their goals and left an amazing legacy at Leadership Tomorrow. As I think about the true essence of Leadership Tomorrow, this quote by John Gardner encapsulates our mission: “The greatest wealth of a community lies not in the amount of its treasure, but in the quality of its leadership.� Leadership Tomorrow is committed every day to making sure Hall County has informed and community-minded leaders. Thank you to our outstanding Board President, Paul Hoos, for your leadership and commitment. I also want to thank the entire Leadership Tomorrow Board of Directors for their hard work and dedication. You have done an outstanding job leading the organization. I would also like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the community for your continued support of Leadership Tomorrow and Youth Leadership Tomorrow. LEADERSHIP TOMORROW CLASS 26

Hall County Leadership Unlimited, Inc. identifies and educates proven and potential leaders who are committed to developing and utilizing positive leadership skills to improve our community.

RANDY ARENS Case-New Holland Randy Arens is currently Manager of the World Class Manufacturing program at Case-New Holland in Grand Island. In this position he leads various teams in conducting improvement projects throughout the manufacturing plant to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost. He has worked for CNH for 4 years. Randy received a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December 2000. He is married to Kelli and has a son Andrew (6) and daughter Ella (3). Randy is a member of the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers. He serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement and is a volunteer teacher for this organization. He is also on the school board for Grand Island Central Catholic Schools. “Leadership Tomorrow has been a great learning experience and helped to improve my leadership skills. It has given me the opportunity to meet other community leaders who are also interested in improving our community.”

MARIA FLORES Pathway Financial Maria Flores is a Customer Service Representative at Pathway Insurance Services and was previously employed at Pathway Bank since December 2008. Maria has lived in Grand Island for twelve years and earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Maria serves on the board of the Heartland United Way and is involved in Cub Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, and is a Spanish and Math tutor. She has volunteered for Youth Diversity Leadership Conference, Teammates, Nebraska State Fair, Harvest of Harmony, Ethnic Festival, and Multicultural Coalition. Maria also enjoys spending time with her sons and family. “Leadership Tomorrow has been an educational experience and a great opportunity to expend my knowledge, I will continue serving my community and helping where needed. I look forward to graduating from the program and will continue to make a difference in my community!”

FRED BENZEL City of Grand Island Fire Department Fredrick Benzel was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and graduated from North Platte High School. He attended Southeast Community College for Fire Protection Technology and Paramedicine. Fred has been a Firefighter/Paramedic on Grand Island Fire Department since 2006. Fred enjoys spending time with his amazing family. His wife Heather is a research nurse at Saint Francis Medical Center and he has a 4 year old son, Wyatt, and a 3 year old daughter, Arabella. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities, as well as being an active member with the Grand Island Evangelical Free youth group and church activities. Fred is a member of the Nebraska Serious Injury and Line of Duty Death Response Team, Local 647 IAFF, and Grand Island Fire Department Honor Guard. “Leadership Tomorrow has given me a different view on leaders in our community and has shown me where I can make a larger impact.”

AMBER GERDES Midtown Holiday Inn Amber Gerdes is the Director of Sales for Midtown Holiday Inn. She attended Doniphan Public School. Graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at Central Community College in Hastings. She is the Vice President of the Grand Island Lodging Association and wants to pursue opportunities to serve in the community in the future. Amber also is a Sales Associate for Woods Bros Realty in Grand Island. Amber is married to Anthony Gerdes and has one daughter, Dylan (8), and two step-daughters Bailee (12) and Maddi (10). Amber enjoys horseback riding, biking, traveling, and shooting sports in her free time. “Leadership Tomorrow has been an excellent opportunity to network with other great leaders and those that will be leading the community in the future. The individuals that I have had the opportunity to work with through this program will serve as a valuable team that will show the way to the future success and growth of our community.”

AL COREY III Shamberg, Wolf, McDermott & Depue Al Corey is an associate attorney at Shamberg, Wolf, McDermott and Depue. He has practiced law in Grand Island since 2009 when he moved to Nebraska with his wife Susan and three children, Zack, Noah and Charlotte. Before moving to Nebraska, Al practiced law in Florida and Georgia and has been an attorney since 1999. Al graduated in 1995 from the University of Dayton and graduated from the University of Florida Law School in 1998. Al has a general law practice and mediates family law matters. Al is a board member at Hope Harbor, a CCD teacher at St. Leo’s Church and serves on the Grand Island Diocesan Review Board. Leadership Tomorrow has introduced me to a diverse group of individuals who are united to help Hall County. By participating in Leadership Tomorrow, I have a better understanding of the community, its needs as well as how to promote it.

MATT GREEN Primark Insurance Agency Matt S. Green is an Insurance Agent with Primark Insurance Agency and the Vice-President of Green Consulting Group. Matt is a Grand Island native and graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic in 2000. After high school he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Matt married his beautiful wife, Katie Green, in the summer of 2011. They both enjoy outdoor activates and working with local charities. Matt is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, currently serving on the membership committee. Matt is a TeamMates mentor and really enjoys spending time with his mentee. “Leadership tomorrow has given me a path to practice and enhance my leadership skills. It has also opened the door to a tremendous amount of great relationships. I cherish the opportunity to be a part of this program!”

JASON DAVIS Central Community College Jason Davis is the Career and Employment Services Director at Central Community College. Jason is married to Heidi and has one son, Calin (4). Jason earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice from UNK and Master of Science Degree in Family & Youth Sciences from Bellevue University. Jason is involved in the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce as a “Connector” and in the Young Professionals organization. Jason also serves as the CoChair of the Grand Island “Great Strides” Annual Walk to support Cystic Fibrosis research. Jason enjoys hunting, golf, and spending time with his family. “Leadership Tomorrow has given me the opportunity to develop and strengthen my leadership skills as well as given me insight into the many facets of Grand Island including local government, commerce, and industry. I look forward to further developing my leadership skills as well as becoming more active in local boards and community development.”

JENNA GRENIER McDermott & Miller, P.C. Jenna Grenier is a Certified Public Accountant and Supervising Senior at McDermott & Miller, PC, where she has worked since 2007. She has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Jenna also graduated summa cum laude from UNK with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Jenna specializes in individual and small business income tax return preparation and financial statement audits, reviews and compilations. She is married to Joe, a teacher and coach at Grand Island Senior High School, and in her spare time, enjoys traveling with her family. “Leadership Tomorrow has opened my eyes to the community’s potential. I look forward to the opportunities to serve on local boards and to be a significant part of the development of Grand Island.”


LEADERSHIP TOMORROW CLASS 26 TRAVIS HASSELMANN Bosselman Energy, Inc. Travis Hasselmann is a Grand Island native and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer of Bosselman Energy Companies in November 2011. He has over 8 years of finance and accounting experience. Travis attended Grand Island Senior High and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Accounting and Computer Science from Hastings College in 2003. Travis enjoys camping with his wife Courtney and two daughters, Kylee (7), and Hadlee (5). He also enjoys construction, riding motorcycles, and being active in the community through Habitat for Humanity, Teammates and volunteering. “Leadership Tomorrow has provided me an opportunity to continue to be involved in the Grand Island community and to network with other leaders in the area. Having grown up in Grand Island and now raising a family here, I see the importance of being involved in the community and it nice to connect with others that feel the same way.”

TIM KRUPICKA Northwest Public Schools Tim Krupicka is the principal of Northwest High School in Grand Island. He is starting his second year as an administrator in the Northwest Public Schools. Tim has been a principal for thirteen years and has spent a total of thirty years as an educator. Tim has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from the University of NebraskaLincoln and Education Specialist degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Tim and his wife Mary Pat have two children, Ben and Emily. Tim enjoys reading, playing golf with family and friends, and cheering on the Vikings and Huskers. He is looking forward to taking part in the many civic opportunities that the community of Grand Island has to offer. “Leadership Tomorrow has greatly increased my knowledge of the city of Grand Island and Hall County. It has given me a great opportunity to meet many new people and to help build relationships with others that have an interest in meeting the challenges of a great and growing community.”

RON HESTER Grand Island Public Schools Ron Hester is the Dean of Students at Grand Island Senior High and has been in education for nineteen years. He and his wife, Susan, have been married for 30 years and have children: Daniel, Whitney and Patrick. Ron is a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island. Professional organizations he belongs to include; National Association of Secondary School Principals, Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals, Grand Island Council of School Administrators, National Education Association, and Nebraska State Education Association. Ron’s interests include spending time with family, travel, reading, and playing golf. “Leadership Tomorrow is showing me the great opportunities Grand Island has to offer. I have met people who are committed to making Hall County feel like a community. The pride here is growing exponentially with every new endeavor and community leaders are supportive of Leadership Tomorrow. I’m proud to be part of Class 26.”

JEN CAMMONLARSON Literacy Council Jennifer Cammon-Larson joined the Literacy Council of Grand Island on June 1, 2011 as the new Executive Director. Larson’s experience in the non-profit world began in New York City where she worked for the National Tourette Syndrome Association, followed by her position as the Executive Director of the YWCA of Grand Island for last 3 ½ years. Jennifer, originally from New York City, received her bachelor degree from Syracuse University. Additionally she earned a second degree in the culinary arts in Overland Park, Kansas. Locally, Ms. Cammon-Larson is a Multicultural Coalition board member and participates in Sunrise Rotary. She is a busy mother of two children.

CONNIE HOLMES Central NE Council on Alcoholism & Addiction Connie Holmes is the Executive Director of the Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, a small non-profit organization in Grand Island that provides alcohol, tobacco and other drug education, information and referral services. She has been with the Council for more than 25 years. Connie serves on the Board of the Friendship House and is a member of the St. Francis Alcohol/Drug Treatment Center Advisory Board. She is married to her husband Jim, and has three adult children ages 18, 24, and 25. She enjoys fishing, boating, horseback riding, and time with her family. Leadership Tomorrow provides an amazing opportunity to learn more about all aspects of the Grand Island community, including City and County government, as well as connect with local government and business leaders. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to expand my involvement in other community group and activities.

JAMIE LEMBURG MFS/YORK/STORMOR Jamie Lemburg is a Safety Coordinator at MFS/York/Stormor in Grand Island. Jamie is a native of Doniphan and attended Central Christian College of McPherson, KS. He and his wife Alicia have two children, Ethan age 15 and Mallory age 11. Jamie enjoys spending time watching his kids’ activities, fishing, and occasionally playing golf. He is excited to become more active in the community and get involved with local organizations, specifically ones that deal with City or County Government. “Leadership Tomorrow has provided me the opportunity to meet many local community leaders and provided me insight into the complexity of the issues we face in this community. I am excited to aid in the growth and development of Grand Island.”

VENUS KING College Park Venus King recently accepted the Executive Director position at College Park. Prior to College Park, she worked as a banker at Platte Valley State Bank since February of 2009. Venus graduated high school from Ravenna and received a Bachelors Degree from Wayne State College. In her spare time, Venus is a coinstructor for Doane College where she teaches health classes. She is a Business Division Leader for the 2011-2012 United Way fundraising campaign and also stays involved with Cedar Hollow PTO. For fun, Venus enjoys spending time with her husband, Ryan, and their two sons as well as hiking, kayaking, and running. “Leadership Tomorrow provides an opportunity to network with other leaders within our community. It is one avenue to discover all Grand Island has to offer. I look forward to continuing to serve in other organizations after this program in order to help make a difference in our community”.

LORI LYONS Case IH Lori Lyons is the Plant Logistics Manager for Case IH. She is a graduate of Central Community College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting, is CPIM certified, and a member of APICS. Lori and her husband Michael are proud parents of two boys, Chad (20) and Aaron (16). In her spare time she enjoys Husker sporting events, going for long walks and bicycle rides, plus spending time with friends and family. “The Leadership Tomorrow experience has broadened my knowledge of how the community functions and the opportunities available to get involved. It has given me a greater appreciation for our community leaders and an understanding of their passion to continue to improve Grand Island. It is a great opportunity to interact with an inspired group of individuals with the same desire to be leaders in the community and has given us the tools to accomplish this goal.”


LEADERSHIP TOMORROW CLASS 26 TINA OSWALD Advance Services, Inc. Tina Oswald is a native of Kearney and now resides in Aurora. She has been with Advance Services, Inc. for 3 years and is currently a Regional Sales Manager for the Kearney, Hastings, Columbus, McCook, York and Grand Island Advance Services offices. In her current position, she is responsible for reaching out to new customers as well as maintaining relations with current customers to provide them with workforce solutions and customer service that sets the industry standard. Tina believes in volunteering and being involved in the community and has served on many volunteer committees. She enjoys attending the activities of her 4 kids, watching wrestling and sewing. “Leadership Tomorrow encourages an attitude of service. The opportunity to network with other leaders in the community opens the door for my involvement to help shape the community and make it a great community to live in, work in and raise a family.”

JACK SHEARD The Grand Island Independent Jack Sheard is the Director of New Media at The Grand Island Independent. He and his wife, Melissa, have two sons, Drew, 10, and Calvin, 9. Jack is an avid reader and enjoys golf. Jack has been active in community groups, including helping organize the Community Cleanups in 2010 and 2011, Gates PTA and Wellness Council, Stuhr Museum. He is also chairman of the Grand Island Junior Achievement Board of Directors. Jack looks forward to continuing his involvement in the community, particularly with organizations geared toward youth. He sees what previous and current community leaders have accomplished, and hopes to follow in their footsteps. “I’ve found in Leadership Tomorrow an immediate improvement in my skills as a manager and leader at the Independent and in the community organizations We’ve got a lot of opportunity.”

JEFF PALIK Olsson Associates Jeff Palik is a senior project engineer for Olsson Associates, where he has worked for 12 years. Jeff moved to Grand Island from Lincoln in 1998 after receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska. He lives here with his wife Jerri, two sons, Jayden (10) and Jared (8), and daughter, Jacie (4). Jeff has coached several youth sports teams over the past few years including baseball, basketball, and flag football. He is a past member of Nebraska Society of Professional Engineers, Grand Island Engineers Club and has been involved with Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf. “Leadership Tomorrow has given me the opportunity to meet and work with other leaders that share similar goals and interests. These relationships will help increase my involvement in organizations that have a positive impact in our community.”

JEN STELK General Collection Jen Stelk is the Compliance Officer at General Collection, where she has been employed since May 2007. Jen received a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Management from The University of Nebraska Kearney in 2003 and attended Grand Island Senior High. Jen is a past board member of Boys and Girls Club of Central Nebraska and is currently also a gymnastics instructor at Twisters Gymnastics. In her spare time, Jen enjoys running, reading, traveling, and spending time with her two black labs. Jen is a firm believer that “Leadership Tomorrow” has been an amazing experience that has provided her a unique perspective and appreciation of our local community. Jen looks forward to using her talents and leadership abilities developed at Leadership Tomorrow to help make the community a better place.

AARON ROSS Friendship House, Inc. Aaron has worked at Friendship House Inc. for ten years and is currently their Executive Director. He lives in Grand Island with his wife Marcie and their son Max and twin daughters Grace and Ella. Aaron is formerly from Central City where he attended high school. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Human and Social Services Business Administration from Bellevue University. Aaron enjoys spending time with his family, watching football, and hunting. He is a Board Member for the Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, and is a member of the Human Services Advisory Committee for Central Community College. “Leadership Tomorrow provided me with an opportunity to see the inner workings of our community that I normally wouldn’t have had access to. I was also able to develop some excellent networking opportunities with current community leaders as well as fellow classmates.”

JARED STOCKWELL City of Grand Island Fire Department Jared Stockwell has lived in Grand Island for 12 years. He is married to Sheree Stockwell who works for Grand Island Public Schools. Jared has worked for the fire department since January 2005 and became a paramedic in July 2008. He has served on the city’s Community Youth Council board for three years, and he leads the city’s Smoke Detectors for Grand Island Program. He enjoys being a CrossFit coach as well as competing in Firefighter Combat Challenges and other races. Future areas with which Jared wants to be involved include downtown and community development, working with youth and public office. Jared had this to say about Leadership Tomorrow, “Leadership Tomorrow has shown me areas of improvement in my leadership abilities and has giving me an opportunity to grow. My hopes of carrying on the legacy of solid leadership in Grand Island have also grown.”

JUSTIN SHAVLIK The Pinnacle Agency Justin B. Shavlik holds the position of Executive Vice President with The Pinnacle Agency where he has been employed for 13 years. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Upon graduation he began his insurance career with The Pinnacle Agency in Osceola, NE and in 2008 was transferred to the Grand Island location. Justin enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife Tiffany and their two children, Aidan (6) and Porter (4). Justin is currently President Elect of the Professional Insurance Agents of Nebraska & Iowa and is a past recipient of their coveted Agent of the Year Award. In addition to being licensed in all lines of personal and commercial insurance Justin is a licensed Realtor. “Leadership Tomorrow has introduced me to a variety of influential leaders in the area as well as provided great insight into the community as a whole.”

MATT THURY Allen Capital Group, LLC

Matt Thury is the Research Analyst for Allen Capital Group. Matt is responsible for implementing the market and economic research division of Allen Capital Group. In addition, he coordinates portfolio trading and optimization and manages the trading desk for the firm. Matt is a native of Sioux Falls, SD and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In his spare time, Matt enjoys playing golf and supporting Nebraska athletics with friends and family. Matt believes that participating in local boards to foster economic investment through both public and private funding is important to encourage positive community development. “Leadership Tomorrow has introduced me to those in the community who make a difference and has encouraged me to take the initiative to develop current ideas and put them into action.”
