about 4,000 hour ago. Center pins have been replaced and are tight. New suspension seat. Has no leaks / machine is dry all over. The hour meter reads 3,900 hours but previous owner said he replaced the meter at around 4,000 hours so machine is around 8000 frame hours. Has heat but no air conditioning. Winch was rebuilt by Holt Equipment. 28L X 26 tires at 90%. This machine is in excellent shape. Everything operates as it should. This was the main machine until they updated to a feller buncher and bogie skidder. Whenever it needed anything it was fixed back to new condition. This will make someone an excellent machine that will provide them years of service.

The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) has named Danville, GA. resident Gabe Outlaw its 2022 Forester of the Year. The honor is given annually to a GFC forester who exemplifies the agency’s mission to provide leadership, service, and education in the protection and conservation of Georgia’s forest resources.
“It gives us great pleasure to recognize Gabe with this important award,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Director Tim Lowrimore. “Gabe is a valued employee who serves forest landowners, agency partners, educators, and young people throughout the central Georgia region. We’re very proud to have him on our team.”
Outlaw is a Management Forester in central Georgia serving Bleckley, Pulaski, and Laurens Counties. He holds a forestry degree from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and joined the GFC team in 2017.

The Firewise program provides a wealth of information, free of cost, to enable residents to mitigate their risk of fire disaster.

Wildfires are often caused by lightning strikes, but far too many are sparked by humans. Escaped debris burning is Georgia’s number one cause of wildfire. Campfires, outdoor cooking, even hot lawn equipment on a pile of dry tinder can ignite a fire. Add brisk winds to the equation and it’s easy to see how one flying ember can set off a dangerous fire.
Granted, these measures are not a guarantee against loss, and a firestorm pushing burning embers at 40 mph will be mostly uncontrollable. However, against the ground-crawling burn that is feeding off the forest floor deadfall of leaves and tree debris, the mitigation efforts taken in advance to establish a “defensible space” around a home does offer a considerable burn deterrent.

Regardless of the cause of the forest fire, its only discriminating factor is that it must have fuel to burn and conditions that support combustion. The forest is the perfect setting for that support, and when people live within or near this perfect environment for fire, the risk of loss is considerable.

On a summer morning in the Southeastern U.S., a crew cab pickup truck transporting three logging company employees was traveling to the deck to begin their shift. Conditions were clear that day, and weather was not a contributing factor.
A track feller buncher operator was cutting alongside the haul road, fully aware that additional crew members would be arriving soon to start work.

The employees in the company crew cab had traveled about four miles through the woods on the haul road enroute to the deck. The truck stopped along the haul road before arriving at the deck to drop off the skidder driver close to his machine. The truck continued traveling to the deck where the loader and second skidder were located. Other crew members had arrived at the site about 45 minutes earlier and already had begun working.

The track feller buncher operator began cutting along the side of the haul road near the deck. The feller buncher began cutting a 20inch gum tree that was about 80 feet tall. As the tree was being severed from the stump, the operator lost control of the tree, and it started to fall back toward the machine. Instinctively, the operator used the cutter arm to push the tree away from the cab and toward the haul road.

At the exact moment the operator was pushing the tree away from the feller buncher, the crew cab truck was arriving at the deck. The felled tree struck the crew cab and came to rest on top of the truck. The feller buncher operator alerted other crew members, and they assisted with removing the top of the tree from the cab.

The crew extracted both employees from the truck and transported them to the intersection of the haul road and state highway to meet emergency medical services personnel. The injured workers were transported to the local hospital, where both were treated and released later in the day.
