FOR OUR IN-PERSON AUDIENCE Patrons are required to show proof of full vaccination to enter performances and public events. Those without proof of full vaccination must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. In accordance with Kansas State Fire Marshal regulations, we request that you take a moment to identify two emergency exits closest to you. In case of emergency, pay close attention to any announcements about important safety information. As a courtesy to our other guests, as well as our performers, please refrain from talking and texting during the performance. Patrons who create disturbances will be asked to leave the theatre. All cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off during performances. The use of photographic, video, or any other recording equipment is strictly prohibited. Our theater is cleaned regularly with state-of-the-art Tersano Technology. Air quality is maintained with needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI). If you have any questions or concerns regarding your experience in our facility, please ask the House Manager. Our highest priority is keeping our audiences, performers and staff safe.

THE LAWRENCE ARTS CENTER THEATER IS EQUIPPED WITH A HEARING LOOP SYSTEM. A receiver sends the voices of our performers from the microphone directly into a hearing aid or cochlear implant. If you use a T-Coil or Telecoil Aid, enjoy as is; if you have another hearing device, please speak to an usher to obtain a headset and enjoy the show!

DIRECTOR’S NOTE Welcome to the 2022 edition of the School of Dance’s End of Year Showcase! This event features the choreography of 16 faculty members as well as over 200 performing students who have embraced the learning process with courage and imagination. In the spotlight this year is our remarkable graduating class: Allison McNellis, Brooke Burgess, Cassidy Dunn, Elijah Paden, Kenna McNally, Margaret Bhattarai, Mariclare Murray, and Marie Brockhoff. These seniors deserve recognition for their dedication to the field of dance and ability to pursue the arts with a steadfast passion. Many of them started dancing in preschool. We are immensely proud of them and their achievements, but also sad to see them go. As they move forward into the next stage of their lives, we send them onward with exuberant praise. We want to recognize those behind the scenes, our caregivers who enroll and drive their child to dance class each week. Knowing firsthand what it’s like to manage a family schedule, this group deserves much appreciation for the role they have played in making dance a possibility for their child. Also behind the scenes, but frontand-center to dance education, is our faculty who continually strive to inspire their students: Amanda Pintore, Anna Hastings, Annie Stark, Ashley Sandefur, Betsy McCafferty, Claire Buss, Cynthia Crews, Elizabeth Lollar, Hope DeYoung-Daniels, Jerel Hilding, Justin Harbaugh, Liat Roth, Maya Tillman-Rayton, Paige Comparato, Shannon Pickett, Tristian Griffin, and Wanwan Cai. Finally, we say thank you to those who are not named in this letter, but who have invested in the life of our students, this program and the Lawrence community. With much dance to be had, please sit back and enjoy the movement of the students of the School of Dance. Sincerely,

Hanan C. Misko Hanan C. Misko School of Dance Director

ABOUT OUR GRADUATING SENIORS Allison McNellis has been a student at the Lawrence Arts Center for the past eight years and a member of the Lawrence Ballet Theatre for the past six. After performing in her very first The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet, she fell in love with performing and has continued to perform in dozens of Arts Center productions ever since. Allison has performed at Regional Dance America with LBT at several universities across the country. Allison is excited to graduate from Lawrence Free State High School this spring and continue to keep dance in her life in any way possible. Brooke Burgess has danced at the Lawrence Arts Center for nine years. During her time as a student of the School of Dance, Brooke has studied ballet and modern. She has been a member of Lawrence Ballet Theater for five years. Brooke has performed in a variety of different shows, from classical ballets to contemporary works, and danced lead roles in The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet and The Sleeping Beauty. She has also performed at Regional Dance America with LBT at the 2022 Festival. As a student at Free State High School, Brooke was an editor for Free State Journalism and a member of the National Honors Society. Brooke is attending the University of Arkansas in the fall, pursuing a degree in pre-medicine. Cassidy Dunn started dancing at the Lawrence Arts Center at age four, starting in preschool ballet. Over her time here, she has studied ballet, modern and pilates, and joined Lawrence Ballet Theatre in 2017, making this her sixth year in the company. She has participated in six Regional Dance America festivals, and in 2021, received a partial scholarship to the Oklahoma International Dance Festival. She was also the Arts Center’s recipient of the Carmine Ballere Scholarship this year and has assisted with the Little Mover classes for three years. Outside of the dance studio, Cassidy will graduate from Lawrence High School where she was involved in A Cappella Choir, LINK crew and National Honor Society. Next year, she will be attending the University of Kansas to study nursing with plans to continue dancing at KU. Elijah Paden has danced at the Lawrence Arts Center since he was 12 and a member of Lawrence Ballet Theater for four of those years. Elijah has focused on ballet with some classes in modern. Outside of dancing, Elijah has been a member of the philosophy club and journalism staff at Lawrence High School. Elijah will be attending the University of Oklahoma next year with plans to study dance and continue to grow as a dancer and person.

Kenna McNally has been dancing since she was three years old, starting with ballet at Lawrence Parks and Recreation. She then danced at Dazzlers Christian Dance for seven years before moving to the Lawrence Arts Center in the seventh grade. During her dance career, Kenna has studied jazz, ballet, modern and Pilates, and has been a part of Lawrence Ballet Theatre for four years. Outside of dance, Kenna is a part of the Lawrence High School choir program, journalism staff, Scholars Bowl team, Student Council, National Honor Society, and several local Democratic organizations. Kenna plans to attend the University of Kansas in the fall to double major in journalism and public policy while continuing to dance recreationally. Margaret Bhattarai has been dancing since she was five years old, starting at the Wichita Children’s Theatre and Dance Center, then changing to the Bethel College Academy of Arts before she moved to Lawrence in seventh grade. She has been dancing at the Lawrence Arts Center for six years. During this time, she studied ballet, jazz and modern, keeping her focus on ballet. In addition to dancing at the Arts Center, she has been an avid participant in choir at Free State High School for four years. Margaret plans to attend the University of Kansas and is leaning towards studying history with an undecided minor and/or second major. She hopes to continue her dance education and keep dance in her life as she moves to college and beyond. Mariclare Murray started dancing at age nine in Ballet I. She has been studying tap, ballet, modern and Irish Step for the past nine years. She joined Lawrence Ballet Theater at age 15 and has been a part of the company for three years. On top of dance, Mariclare was in a drama theater group for four years. She joined Boy Scouts at age 14 in 2019 and is currently a life scout. Mariclare is currently attending Hayden High School where she is in the choir. She plans to attend Johnson County Community College next year and major in either dance/theater or ecology. Marie Brockhoff began dancing ballet at the Lawrence Arts Center at age three and has continued ever since. She performed in A Kansas Nutcracker eleven times, as well as productions of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Marie is a senior at Bishop Seabury Academy where she participates in theater, forensics, journalism, writing lab, diversity club, student senate and Academic World Quest, and serves as a senior Prefect. She is a 4-H member in Leavenworth County, volunteers at the Tonganoxie Historical Society, and helps raise Normande cattle on her family’s farm. Marie’s plans for the future are still taking shape, but she hopes to study biology and history at either Kansas State University or Williams College. 23
