OUR MISSION KPC provides a gathering place where people come together to express themselves creatively, exchange ideas, share culture, and connect with one another.

KPC Executive Director Jeff Lockhart

Dear KPC Family, In 2018 we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of a theater built by the community to serve the community. This is a great time to applaud what Kirkland Performance Center has become and to thank the many people who have helped us along the way. This theater would not be bringing the magic of live performance to 84,000 people each year without the help of visiting and local artists, a hardworking and dedicated staff, the kindness of over 150 dedicated volunteers, guidance from KPC Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and Honorary Council, contributions from thousands of donors, and support from our civic and community partners. KPC can continue to serve Kirkland because of this community of supporters. In return we’ve brought worldclass performances in music, musical theater, film, comedy, dance, and many more artistic genres to Kirkland, drawing audiences from all over the Eastside and Seattle. We also provide a stage and gathering place for local community groups and business to hold events such as graduations, Arangetrams, book launches and more. After 20 years, we continue to evolve as an organization, ever watchful of our mission and continually striving to make each dollar go further. Facts and figures are only part of the KPC story. Our real success is in the inspiration and connection that our audiences feel when they get to experience a live performance. The creation of each small moment of magic is why KPC is here and why we exist to be a gathering space for a community connected by culture. I am profoundly honored to serve KPC and its community as Executive Director. I’m excited about what the next 20 years of incredible performances will bring, about all we will accomplish together and about each magic moment yet to come. Thank you for being part of the KPC family. All the best,

Jeff Lockhart Executive Director

WHY do we do it? Why do we even bother attending a live performance in a theater anymore, when practically anything can be downloaded from the internet? Instantly streamed to your phone. Watched at midnight. No need to wear uncomfortable shoes, or find parking, or even show up at a designated time. What is it that happens on stage that drives us out of our pajamas to witness art?

We all want to be in the PRESENCE OF GREATNESS. GRAMMY award winning artists play back-to-back with Local Favorites on KPC’s stage at more than 240 shows and community events each season. “Having performed in theaters across the United States, I am happy to say that Kirkland Performance Center shines as a prime example of what a theater should be. I wish I could play there every week.” - Geoffrey Castle, 2015 KPC Artist of the Year

We want to SHARE THE EXPERIENCE with someone. At KPC, our dream is to create a community connected by culture. “Whether I am dancing in the aisles with my kids to SRO’s Michael Jackson performance, meeting other parents to see a film about teen anxiety, or laughing with friends over comedian Hari Kondabolu, I know I will leave every performance feeling inspired and connected to those around me. KPC is the heart and soul of our community.” - Kirstin Larson, Immediate Past President, Board of Directors, Kirkland Performance Center

“This is our 3rd year presenting our concert benefit, In Concert for Cancer, at Kirkland Performance Center. The intimacy of the venue offers a wonderful opportunity for our patrons to feel closely connected to the artists and the live music experience, which I personally love and our patrons enjoy as well. We appreciate the amble space in the lobby to welcome concert goers, and use of The Kirk for hosting our VIP receptions. Our Kirkland community is fortunate to have a state of the art performing arts venue in the heart of downtown Kirkland. The staff is always helpful and attentive to our needs. Our team always looks forward to presenting shows at KPC!” - Michele Abrams , Principal, BrightStar Entertainment, In Concert for Cancer

We come to EXPERIENCE MAGIC. “Kirkland Performance Center provides a place for our community to love. It brings us together to celebrate the magic of music, theater, spoken word, and envelops us in the art that sustains our soul. This is place making at its best and KPC makes Kirkland a very special place indeed. - Amy Walen, Mayor, City of Kirkland

SPOTLIGHT: STUDIO EAST “StoryBook Theater, a production of Studio East, has been in residence at Kirkland Performance Center for 20 years. Throughout that time tens of thousands of children, accompanied by their teachers, parents, or grandparents, have walked through the doors of KPC to the welcoming lobby, the friendly staff, and the beautiful, warm theater. For thousands of these young people, ages 2 through 10, this is their very first experience with live theater. With the help of KPC, we are creating the audiences of tomorrow.

PHOTO: LANI BROCKMAN

In addition to StoryBook Theater, each summer Studio East teens spend a week or so preparing and presenting a full scale musical, with all the extras: a full orchestra in the pit; scenery that can fly in and out; and sometimes people flying in and out! What a magnificent experience these teens have while at KPC. Having access to KPC is a unique and marvelous opportunity for these young actors.” - Lani Brockman, Executive Artistic Director, Studio East Training for the Performing Arts. “Performing on the KPC stage is always so special. Getting the opportunity, as a student, to perform on a large stage in a professional-quality facility is very rare and exciting. Working with a live orchestra in a space like KPC adds so much to the performance experience. What makes it particularly special is the much larger audience which KPC empowers us to share our art with. KPC feels very central to the Kirkland community. So, at KPC, whether performing onstage or greeting young fans in the lobby after my performances as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, I’ve truly felt that I am making theatre for, and connecting with this entire city’s community.” - Emily Brooks, High School senior “Performing at KPC is an incredible opportunity to work in an environment that has all the mics and lights and seating of a professional production. Being able to share a story with so many more people and having the ability to learn about things like sound boards and fly systems has been an incredible opportunity and one that contributed to my love of performing even more.” - Katie Orr, High School senior

“KPC is a special place. It is not just a brick and mortar venue. Not simply a theater with state-of-art acoustics. Not only a hall with great seating wherever you happen to be located. Not solely a setting providing a unique experience, exchange, and connection between the artist and the audience. It is SO much more. Once people enter our doors, they realize KPC is a place full of dreams. It is life-changing. It is fun. It is community. And more than anything, it is all of us.” - Susan Raunig, 2017 Champion of the Arts recipient

NEW IN 2018: $500,000 GRANT FROM THE STATE OF WASHINGTON KPC, our artists, and audiences are deeply grateful to legislators on the State of Washington Capital Budget Committee for allocating $500,000 to invest in KPC’s building. We will use these state funds to replace the KPC roof, renovate our lobby and concessions area, and upgrade our lighting system. As we complete our 20th year connecting Kirkland and Eastside communities through culture, we are excited to refresh the building that has come to be an artistic home for so many people. KPC extends our deepest thanks to 48th District State Senator Patty Kuderer, the City of Kirkland, and the Kirkland City Council for advocating on KPC’s behalf for these funds. The results of their leadership will enhance the performances of the artists and cultural groups who use our facilities and improve the experience for the more than 84,000 KPC audience members who come to downtown Kirkland each year. “Over the past sixteen years we have been fortunate to set our performances at Kirkland Performance Center. It has been a positive experience for all involved in the productions. This extraordinary opportunity has strengthened our program and has provided our students with a firsthand experience in a state of the art theater. It has instilled in them a love of theater, which I am proud to say, has propelled many of them to pursue a career in Theater Arts. Our alumni have gone on to establish themselves as playwrights, actors, actresses, musicians and instructors. I have heard from many that their experience at Kirkland Performance Center was a defining moment – one that had significant impact on their futures.” PHOTOS: AARON STERNKE

“For performers, appearing live on stage at Kirkland Performance Center is a dream come true. It’s truly the perfect, professionally managed intimate venue. A warm and welcoming space… a place that sounds good and feels good… like you could reach out and touch every audience member. For many seasons now we have been honored to be a part of the exciting KPC family of artists from around the world. And we look forward to our return; it always feels like coming home. Thank you! Thank you for your continuing support of this amazing, world-class venue.“ - The Brothers Four

“Since 2000, Jim French Productions has partnered with Kirkland Performance Center in the presentation of live full cast audio drama. Four to six times a year we have brought to the stage of KPC a fully professional company of actors and Foley artists. On every occasion the staff of KPC has gone to the limit to insure that our company was always provided with any help we may have needed from the box office to the technical staff. In doing so, we have been able to bring an almost lost art to patrons and to introduce the joy of discovering their Imagination to many young people over the years. KPC has been a leader in introducing Kirkland many fine artists that may not have been able to find a venue if KPC were not in existence. Kirkland and the surrounding communities greatly benefit from the eclectic nature of the performers scheduled each season by KPC and it is my belief, KPC elevates the artistic level King County.” - Larry Albert, Producer, Jim French Productions

“As an event organizer, we absolutely love KPC. We have had many shows here over the years and it has always been a pleasant experience. All the staff and the technical crew are amazing. KPC is our go-to venue.” - Sai Sajja, Child Rights and You (CRY, India)
