WELCOME

Dear KPC friends and family, Welcome to Kirkland Performance Center’s annual gala & auction We Can Be Heroes. Our goal for this evening’s David Bowie-themed festivities is to celebrate and promote the performing arts on the Eastside and to have a great time doing it. Thank you for joining us and making it happen! Tonight, we are proud to acknowledge and celebrate Susan Raunig as the 2017 Champion of the Arts. As we head towards our 20th anniversary next year, I hope you will join Susan and many other familiar faces in this room in raising your paddle for a donation or auction purchase that will help us serve over 80,000 people in our 20th year. It is my privilege to thank our amazing team of board members, staff, volunteers, and friends of the theater who worked tirelessly to create this evening. We are indebted to the amazing individuals and businesses who generously contributed the exciting items and opportunities you see in this year’s auction catalog. It is a profound honor for me to serve KPC and its constituents as the Executive Director. I’m excited about the great things in store for us this season – which your gifts tonight will make possible. KPC succeeds because of the community that surrounds and supports us! You have my deepest gratitude. All the best,

Jeff Lockhart Executive Director

ABOUT KPC KPC enriches, educates, and entertains through performances that ignite the imagination and connect audiences and artists. The story of our theater is one of an entire community coming together to support the performing arts. In the early 1990s, a group of local residents shared a dream of creating a vibrant space for the performing arts to thrive. At that time, as is true today, there was no similar professional performance space on the Eastside that was suitable for national and international touring artists and theater companies. This small group of citizens literally collected pennies to do what was considered by many to be “the impossible.” Over the next eight years, pennies turned into pledges of all sizes from people of all backgrounds and ages who believed in the dream of building a world-class performing arts center in downtown Kirkland. By 1998, the impossible had become a reality, and KPC opened the doors on a beautiful, brand new 400-seat theater. Today, KPC offers more than 300 live performances each year, attended by more than 80,000 patrons who come to us from across the Pacific Northwest. We are able to offer the kind of world-class performances normally reserved for the nation’s largest cities, making Kirkland and East King County richer and more vibrant places to live and work. We search the world to identify and bring great artists to our stage, for performances that include music of all genres, theater, comedy, dance, and much more. Since opening our doors a decade and a half ago, we have welcomed more than 1,000,000 patrons, performers and guests from around Puget Sound, and around the world. Kirkland Performance Center is the premiere intimate performing arts venue on Seattle’s Eastside where audiences of all ages can experience a variety of emerging artists and seasoned world class performers in a VIP setting.

CHAMPION OF THE ARTS Susan Raunig

The annual Champion of the Arts recipient is nominated and selected by the Board of Directors to recognize their long-standing generosity, dedication, promotion, and support of the arts and KPC. Susan Raunig has been selected as our 2017 honoree. She epitomizes leadership, generosity, and dedication to the arts and culture in Kirkland. Susan’s commitment to KPC makes her the perfect recipient of this year’s honor. As a Board Member, Advisory Board Member, Previous President, and Chair of numerous committees, Susan has worked tirelessly to create effective strategy, governance, and fundraising - all critical to the success of the theater, and most importantly to the magical and creative experience of each and every one of our patrons. She is a steadfast and unwavering supporter, organizing innumerable events and fundraisers. She is also a generous supporter, and a constant cheerleader. Because of her business acumen, smart thinking, collaborative skills, and endless commitment, KPC has become an indispensable and beloved center for musical expression and intimate experiences - a gathering place where kids, local artists, community groups, and world class performers alike have all taken the same stage, delighting and connecting thousands of people through the magic of live performance. On behalf of the entire board and staff, we would like to thank Susan for her ongoing dedication to KPC and to the arts community in Kirkland.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR Creme Tangerine

The annual Artist of the Year recipient is nominated and selected by the Board of Directors to recognize artistic contribution to the culture of Kirkland. Creme Tangerine has been selected because they delight audiences, add depth and breadth to our programming, and demonstrate support and endorsement for the mission and purpose of KPC. Creme Tangerine has been a consistent and on-going presence at KPC, selling out four shows in four years, and bringing new audiences of all ages to our theater with their unique approach to performing the music of the Beatles. In addition, each member of Creme Tangerine has generously donated their time and musicianship to raise money for our organization, playing several benefit concerts and galas. Their volunteerism and generosity has raised nearly $65,000 for KPC, helping KPC to keep the doors open for their fellow community artists. For over a decade Creme Tangerine has been thrilling audiences in the Pacific Northwest with its unique approach to performing the music of the Beatles. Their exciting shows are in high demand by top tier clients/venues when the event needs to be electric, engaged, and inspired.

HONORARY GALA CHAIRS Bob & Sue Malte

Bob Malte and Sue Malte joined the Puget Sound community in April 2010, when Bob, who has held healthcare executive positions around the country over his 35-year career, was named EvergreenHealth Chief Executive Officer. The Malte’s were a natural fit for this year’s honorary chairs as both fans and supporters of the performing arts (and big fans of The Eagles!). They have two young adult children in college, Jack and Morgen, and together enjoy traveling, karaoke and skiing. As natives of the mid-west, they are obliged to love the Green Bay Packers, but outside of that, they consider themselves all-around diehard Pacific Northwest fans. It is their privilege and pleasure to serve as this year’s honorary chair of the Kirkland Performance Center and they wish to thank everyone in attendance this evening for their support of a vibrant cultural community and KPC.

RAISE THE PADDLE Community Engagement and Outreach at Kirkland Performance Center Kirkland Performance Center creates moments where people can experience the unique alchemy of live performance. It’s those unplanned and unrehearsed moments you can only see at a live show that have the power to lift people up out of their daily lives, and create a community space for open dialogue, cultural expression, connection, and growth. We are in the business of making magic happen. Our vision is to build a local community that is inspired, uplifted, and connected through live performances by artists in a shared space, which nurtures creative expression, education, the exchange of ideas and the diversity of our region. We turn this vision into reality by bringing nationally and internationally recognized artists to Kirkland, but also by creating a home for people in our own community to come together to create their own art. You can see Romanian theater and Chinese acrobats at KPC, but you can also see a community chorus full of your friends and neighbors, or a local comedy improv group. It takes a lot to make this magic happen. Behind every performance is a backdrop woven from the hard work of our staff, the diligence and leadership of our board, talent and commitment of the people who grace the stage, and so much more. There are threads in that backdrop that lead right back to this moment – the moment where our community joins hands to generate the financial resources that fuel the magic. You are one of the most important threads in this community tapestry. Tonight, please help us make our vision for Kirkland come true by raising your paddle and making a meaningful donation to Kirkland Performance Center.

DESSERT DASH Tonight you and your guests will have the opportunity to bid for your dessert. We have received many wonderful desserts for you to choose from, but exactly which dessert will be up to you and your table guests and how high you all bid! Best of all, these bids are 100% tax deductible! On your table you will find a sheet where you and your table guests can each place a bid using your bidder number. Simply write in your bidder number and your bid amount. All of the bids from your table will be tallied. The total will be compared with the totals from the other tables in the room. When the dash begins, the highest bidding table will be called to come and make their dessert selection first, then the next highest bidding table will be called to make their selection and so on… Beware! Tables will be called rapidly and your competition will physically dash for their dessert and may steal your favorite choice from under you, so listen carefully for your table number and make your selection quickly — your table is counting on you! Thank you to Jeff Cole & Chris McKenzie and Hoffman’s Fine Cakes for graciously donating tonight’s desserts!

LIVE AUCTION 13 15 16 SEATTLE ROCK ORCHESTRA: LED ZEPPELIN VIP EXPERIENCE on Saturday, March 31st, 2018 for two

Seattle Rock Orchestra doesn’t hide behind a rock band... it is the rock band! SRO utilizes strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and rotating cast of exciting guest vocalists to deliver tribute shows unlike any other. Each SRO show juxtaposes a dynamic plethora of possibilities: the infectious energy of a dance party with a classy night out at the symphony; searing rock solos with intimate orchestral moments of staggering beauty; fan favorite singalongs with lesser known ‘deep cuts,’ all combining to create a fun yet profoundly moving night out that honors the featured artist’s lasting legacy. They will be performing songs from album I and II of the famous English rock band, Led Zeppelin at Kirkland Performance Center on March 31, 2018, and you and a guest will get a chance to not only see their magnetic and provocative live performance, but get backstage passes to meet the band prior to their performance. But wait, that’s not all! You will have a chance for stardom when the band invites you to join them on stage during the performance! This is a once-in-alifetime opportunity that you will not want to miss.
