W E L C O M E Dear Friends, Welcome to Kirkland Performance Center’s Annual An Affair for the Arts Gala & Auction. I’m delighted that you’re able to join us for this evening’s festivities as we celebrate and promote the performing arts on the Eastside. It is a profound honor for me to serve KPC and its constituents as the Executive Director and I’m excited about the great things in store for us this season. One of the many memorable moments of the evening will be acknowledging Vaudeville Etiquette as the 2016 Champion of the Arts. Another one of our evening’s highlights is the opportunity for all of us to further support KPC through a Raise the Paddle donation. My thanks go out to our amazing team of board members, staff, volunteers, and friends of the theater who worked tirelessly to create this evening. As you peruse the catalog, you’ll find an amazing array of exciting opportunities; we thank all of the individuals and businesses who have contributed to this event. We are grateful to each and every one of you who have contributed to our successes! All the best, Jeff Lockhart Executive Director

KPC enriches, educates, and entertains through performances that ignite the imagination and connect audiences and artists. The story of our theater is one of an entire community coming together to support the performing arts. In the early 1990s, a group of local residents shared a dream of creating a vibrant space for the performing arts to thrive. At that time, as is true today, there was no similar professional performance space on the Eastside that was suitable for national and international touring artists and theater companies. This small group of citizens literally collected pennies to do what was considered by many to be “the impossible.” Over the next eight years, pennies turned into pledges of all sizes from people of all backgrounds and ages who believed in the dream of building a world-class performing arts center in downtown Kirkland. By 1998, the impossible had become a reality, and KPC opened the doors on a beautiful, brand new 400seat theater. Today, KPC offers more than 200 live performances each year, attended by more than 80,000 patrons who come to us from across the Pacific Northwest. We are able to offer the kind of world-class performances normally reserved for the nation’s largest cities, making Kirkland and East King County richer and more vibrant places to live and work. We search the world to identify and bring great artists to our stage, for performances that include music of all genres, theater, comedy, dance, and much more. Since opening our doors a decade and a half ago, we have welcomed more than 1,000,000 patrons, performers and guests from around Puget Sound, and around the world. Kirkland Performance Center is the premiere intimate performing arts venue on Seattle’s Eastside where audiences of all ages can experience a variety of emerging artists and seasoned world class performers in a VIP setting.

Local band and Seattle favorite, Vaudeville Etiquette first performed at Kirkland Performance Center (KPC) in the 2014-2015 season as the opening act for Richard Thompson. With newfound confidence and a growing fanbase, Vaudeville Etiquette recorded their second album, Aura Vista Motel, bringing Shawn Simmons (The Head and The Heart, Hey Marseilles) on as producer. After completing this new recording, Vaudeville Etiquette graced the KPC stage once more, this time as headliners with the performance all to themselves. KPC has been honored to present Vaudeville Etiquette over the past two seasons to acclaim and high demand from our patrons, staff, donors, and board. Their performances at KPC have delighted our audiences and were critical to ushering in a new direction of programming which has celebrated sold-out and near capacity shows at the majority of our presented performances. Vaudeville Etiquette serves up psych-folk with grit, passion, and comehither wit. The Seattle quintet fills timeless melodies with modern lyrics, heady harmonies, and a potent classic rock chemistry. Their live performances are magnetic and provocative. Duo lead vocals and a wailing pedal steel dive from energetic anthems to wistful ballads and back again with psychedelia and fearless on-stage improvisation. We are truly glad to have Vaudeville Etiquette as performers at KPC, and we cannot wait to see how far they go with their music. They are our Champion of the Arts!

raise

paddle

Raise the Paddle: Community Engagement and Outreach at Kirkland Performance Center Kirkland Performance Center has always been centered around serving the Eastside community. Thus far in 2016, KPC has served over 14,000 audience members who have supported both StoryBook Theater performances and Studio East teen summer musicals. More than 50 high school students had the opportunity to perform, play music, or act as a technical theater assistant on KPC’s stage, exposing many to their first time working in a professional theater. This past summer KPC was honored to host the Seattle Rock Orchestra’s (SRO) Eastside Summer Camp. Over 40 teen orchestra and band members participated in learning rock and pop hits in the context of an orchestra setting from the leaders of the SRO team. At the end of their week they then performed for a packed out audience on the KPC stage. KPC is also thrilled to host multiple Arangetrams (Indian classical dance recitals) throughout the year with over 2,800 community members in attendance. Combined with the additional recitals, school plays, and graduations, KPC sees close to 8,000 audience members coming together to support various schools, programs, and cultural groups. We want to continue to support the incredible programming that this community wants to come together for. With your help and with the funds raised at this event we can continue to support these groups with better technological and staffing support. Please raise your paddle for KPC’s Community Engagement and Outreach programs. KPC would love to share our impressive professionalism and technical caliber to the entire Eastside and beyond. This is all very possible with your donations and your continued belief in this community that we serve. THANK YOU!

Tonight you and your guests will have the opportunity to bid for your dessert. We have received many wonderful desserts for you to choose from, but exactly which dessert will be up to you and your table guests and how high you all bid! Best of all, these bids are tax deductable! On your table you will find a sheet where you and your table guests can each place a bid using your bidder number. Simply write in your bidder number and your bid amount. All of the bids from your table will be tallied. The total will be compared with the totals from the other tables in the room. When the dash begins, the highest bidding table will be called to come and make their dessert selection first, then the next highest bidding table will be called to make their selection and so on‌ Beware! Tables will be called rapidly and your competition will physically dash for their dessert and may steal your favorite choice from under you, so listen carefully for your table number and make your selection quickly -- your table is counting on you!

Thank you to Jeff Cole and Chris McKenzie for graciously donating many of tonight’s desserts! S I L E N T
