hree current Kinkaid Upper Schoolers – senior Tommy McAuley, junior Jared Feig and sophomore Stephen Sorrell – have each shown interest in applying to one of the military academies for their college years. McAuley, in fact, has already applied to West Point and is busy getting all the other requirements of such an application completed. His participation in several of the past summers in the West Point campus’ training program for prospective students was a huge deciding factor in his eventual decision to apply. This week-long program offers interested students the opportunity to get an in depth idea of what life would be like as a cadet. This past summer, McAuley not only underwent the rigorous fitness program and “test” that is required of all service academy applicants, but he also took courses in social sciences, behavioral sciences, and leadership and ethics that were taught by the school’s professors. McAuley feels that his training and work as an Eagle Scout, as well as the camaraderie and inspiration derived from his years in the classroom at Kinkaid and on the athletic fields, have directly contributed and led to his decision to give his life this particular, service-oriented focus.
